    I think the coolest part of this entire video was learning that Dust Man was designed by Yuusuke Murata when he was 12 years old!
    He would later become an apprentice to one of my (if not #1) favorite manga artists of all time, Takeshi Obata (Death Note, Bakuman), and he'd become the illustrator of one of my favorite manga of all time Eyeshield 21. I didn't even realize he was drawing One Punch Man since I fell out of the manga fandom in recent years, but damn, now I respect it even more. If it wasn't for these contest prizes, we would never have learned this history!

From what I heard, the contest was for literally every game but the first, but the only one of them to have any winners outside of Japan was in Mega Man 6, which is actually why it got published in North America (Nintendo of America published it because of this).

    Murata winning a contest for designing a megaman robot master? bruh he probably destroyed the competition because his art is godly

  • @Biotear
    @Biotear 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Of course Yuusuke Murata would be the one who designed Dust Man. Kidding but pretty cool he was one of the winners. On that note, going off the original quality of illustration in the first version of the One Punch Man manga, I wonder what his Dust Man concept looked like...

    • @TheTdbj

      An artist going right from drawing OPM webcomic to OPM manga would be like a kid who just learned to play twinkle twinkle little star on piano playing flight of the bumblebee the next day. I love ONE's stories, just his drawing might as well be macaroni art compared to Murata.

      Actually two of them. In the official artbook for the 25th anniversary of Mega Man, there is a short contribute by him where he states that he created not only Dust Man for the Mega Man 4 contest, but he also designed Crystal Man one year later for Mega Man 5.

    Longtime LSSQ viewer, been watching all your videos since 2017! Two years after this video came out, I was finally able to visit Super Potato when I was in Japan for an internship last year. Didn't see the Rockman 4 cart as I was in the original location in Akihabara, Tokyo (and if I interpreted this video correctly, the cart is currently at a different location in Osaka) but it's cool to come back to this video, think "I was there" while watching the Game Center CX clips, and remember the things I bought!

    Amazing video!!! I can’t tell you how much I love your channel. I’m a huge fan of cartoons and video games and I’ve always been fascinated with lost media and merchandise. I’m so happy to see a channel like yours that does some serious research into the topic. Have you ever heard of the cancelled phineas and ferb movie? I remember reading an article when it was first announced that said it was being developed by the same people who produced the recent muppets movies but I don’t remember what site that was. I wonder if that would make a good video topic, I know I would love to see it.

    There is a possibility I noticed went untouched- what if one of the winners worked/works at or has connections to Super Potato? They put their copy in Super Potato at an alarmingly high price as a marketing strategy that failed until it was reported on. It's also possible it wasnt in their stock for years and they knew ahead of time somehow about it and placed it in order to drum up publicity, possibly in preparation for their store change. This would mean you could find the original owner by looking at Super Potato's connections.

    Speaking of Mega Man-related stuff, I have a personal desire to see something else about Mega Man 4; namely, its prototype. It was shown in Tokyo Game Show 1991, and the four stages shown off, which are Bright Man's, Pharaoh Man's, Ring Man's, and Toad Man's, have alterations ranging from minor graphics tweaks and music to completely different areas for Pharaoh Man's stage and Ring Man's stage to a cut Sphinx miniboss in Pharaoh Man's stage. The day may come where it is leaked or given out as a prize for a contest.

    • @sakurakitsunestar

      appears to be gold in color, as these look like they are designed to be used like a regular cartage

    • @splotchmash
      @splotchmash 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Would an actual gold cartridge even work? Doesn’t sound real to me, probably painted gold or made out of a gold colored plastic or whatever they use to make cartridges.

    • @piluex2
      @piluex2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the inside of the cartrige is the same as a regular one, I dont think the material used for the outside would matter that much, there's been golden consoles, so I don´t think its impossible.

    • @splotchmash
      @splotchmash 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      piluex2 Fair enough. I've never actually heard of golden consoles, but that's actually really interesting. I still do seriously doubt that they were real gold though, even if it still would be playable

  • @p1nkfreud

    So confused as to why there aren't better counterfeits around. With the right equipment, you could produce a copy that even Nintendo would claim is their own for around $200. Same thing with golden NES games. The parts and boards for old cartridges are dirt cheap.
