We have an Apple butter festival. All kinds of food vendors and big iron kettles over a fire in the street full of apple butter. They stir the kettles with big wooden paddles. Everyone waits for the apple butter to be done so they can get a jar. It’s delicious just like your dumplings! Thanks Tom and Melissa 🍏🍏💕

I love how Tom introduces you both. I’m 65. I remember my late father (who I learned most of my cooking skills - sorry mom) always used a knife to peel,apples and potatoes. Everything was with a Macintosh apple and for years I didn’t know there were other types until I was in university. We had many apple orchards where I grew up in Ontario. I like to try to get the peel in one long strip. A bit of a challenge for myself. Good job editing Melissa. 😊🇨🇦🇨🇦
I have a 100 year old recipe that calls for a homemade pastry dough. It calls for pealed whole apples. After pouring the syrup all over the tops (to half way up) sprinkle the tops liberally with white sugar, then bake. The end result is half the pastry & apple is like a yummy gooey dumpling on the bottom and the top half has a flaky crispy sugar topping. Do not pour syrup over the top after removing from the oven for a two in one tasty treat you will never forget. Well worth the effort…!
I used the very similar recipe that calls for sprite (14-ounces) and a 50/50 mix of light brown sugar and regular granulated sugar. The volume of ingredients were the same, but the process was a bit different. The wrapped pieces of fruit were arranged in the bottom of the baking dish. Then the butter was melted and the sugar and spices were mixed in -- this mixture was then spooned over the top of each dumpling. Then the sprite was gently poured along the edges of the dish so as not to disturb the butter/sugar mixture on top of the dumplings. This process resulted in sweet crust on top of each dumpling as well as the syrup for serving. I made three trays of 16 each for a Labor Day party -- one each of apple, peach, and pear -- they were a hit with the guests.
I prepared them last weekend and they were devoured!! Best apple dumpling recipe. The secret is that sauce. My son made homemade honey vanilla ice cream to go with it.

3 out of 4 of our sons are good cooks. And the one is a good grilled and good at smoking meats, etc. And the one thing he does cook well is scrambled eggs. He uses Gordon Ramsey’s method, and they are so good.
I'm from Missouri and we use pie crust. Peel and core the apples but leave them whole. Fill the core with cinnamon and brown sugar. Wrap the whole thing in pie crust and bake. The apple is soft and the crust is brown and crisp. Serve with whipped topping.
we have an apple fritter booth at our fall festival. never tried apple dumplings, but apple anything is my favorite so this is something I must try soon!

I roll my apple pieces in cinnamon brown sugar before wrapping them. Gives some added flavor.
