I love watching you cook because you don't waste anything. We were raised poor so we were taught not to waste anything and I love that about you how you make sure everything is used. You also do exactly like I do when you open a bottle of something and pour you close it before going to the next thing and you use a spatula and don't waste. I love that that's why I will continue watching you because you relieve a lot of my stress where the other cooks that I watch cause me stress because they don't get everything out of the bowl. LOL
I'm from Manchester, Ky and have been following you and your beautiful wife for several weeks! Love your show and I thought I saw this recipe a few weeks ago. So today I picked up the Pecans to make it with the Sweet Potatoes I have in my refrigerator. I will be putting it all together tomorrow morning! I'm sure following your instructions it will turn out perfect! Thank You! Strange that I know I had subscribed weeks ago but when I hit the like button I saw that I wasn't subscribed! Odd considering I have loved several of your recipes and the way you teach them. I know I subscribed weeks ago!
I love sweet taters too, any way I can get em. So cheers to your dad. My dad been gone since 1989 & I will always miss him. For my topping, I melt butter, add dk brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped pecans, & grape nuts cereal. It sounds odd, but it is so good. I'm not a huge fan of just eating the cereal, but it's so good as a topping.
My late sister Janis, when we were kids, would eat the sweet potato casserole last as if it were dessert. Ty for you Dad's story. Brought back a fond memory. God bless.
I’m glad you scrap everything out. I do the same and when I see others making a recipe and just pour the contents in from another container and leave a good amount behind it makes me cringe lol. I just have some kind of feelings about that lol.😊
These recipes and Tom’s slow southern accent remind me of my daddy and Mother, long since passed. Nothing beats the taste and love in these delicious dishes.
I've been making this delicious casserole on Thanksgiving for 50 years. Our family recipe includes cinnamon, nutmeg orange zest and a bit of Grand Mariner. Someone in the comments mentioned apples. That sounds like something worth trying. Maybe grate in some Granny Smith apple for a bit of tartness to cut the sweetness. I love your channel. Your recipes always remind me of childhood...and that is priceless.❤
Just started watching your videos! You are a true teacher with your cooking! Thank you for doing this and to your Mrs. for recording you! May you continue to be successful!
I have come to love watching your videos. I just found you folks about 2 weeks ago, and I have watched so many of your videos in that time. I had to laugh yesterday when I was making scones, as I was dumping them out on the counter to work them together, I heard Tom saying. “Scrape it all out, you don’t want to waste any of that”. Lol I smile every time he says that”.I’ve always been a good scraper, but he has made me a better one. Keep up the good work. You both make my day better. Thank you. ❤
Found your channel a few months ago. You two are delightful. So genuine and thoughtful. Have you guys thot of doing a cookbook. I would buy in a heartbeat. It would save me on printing out all your recipes. LOL. Love you both.
❤love love love❤ this we always have this as a side..but like you said...my mom passed away 5 years ago and she would eat it with her meal...but before you could get the dish moved she would say " hey that's my dessert...dont you take it away,"...dont know if it was the age because she was 86 when she passed...but she dearly loved them...thanks for sharing ALL your recipes they are great❤
I absolutely love love this recipe. It’s so hot here in Florida right now but I sure could turn my oven on for this. 😂 Thanks for sharing your yummy recipes.
Thank you Tom and Melissa. This will be on our Thanksgiving table this year. I will have to double it and only put pecans on half. Some of the family members are crazy because they don't like nuts. 😊 This is a great alternative to the marshmallow candied yams because our daughter is a vegetarian and since marshmallows have gelatin (which is a beef product) we are always trying new recipes. Marshmallow creme and no gelatin marshmallows are an option but don't work as well baked on yams. This recipe will be a definite winner.
My sweet mother in law who is now in her 80's does not cook a lot anymore but every Thanksgiving and Christmas she makes Sweet Potato Casserole for me and a big pot of greens for my hubby. Your casserole seems to be exactly like hers. God bless!
This was my mom’s and still my selves favorite. We would even eat it for breakfast, try it with a side of bacon and a biscuit. Yummy. I sure do miss her. Come to think of it I haven’t eaten this since I lost her a year and a half ago, I’m going to make some and eat it.
Sweet story about your Dad! Love sweet potatoes, but never made it this way. A must try this winter. Thank to Melissa for typing out the recipes under the video! I screenshot them 😍
Oh My Goodness!!! Absolutely Delicious 😋 this is my favorite dish !! I don't make it my sister -N- law always make it and I Love it . I always ask her to make it. But now I can make it myself 😁❤️ Thank You Tom & Melissa I'm going to make this myself 🤗💕
I love sweet potato anything !! And this is one of my favorite "desserts"... Thank you for sharing it. I haven't made this in a very long time, but I am now !! 😊
You are my favorite! I love how you demonstrate and explain your ingredients at the beginning, I am an anxious cook so you calm my anxiety with your calm voice and genuine personality. Hat’s off!
This way is good, but my Mom would add canned sweet potatoes, undrained, butter, brown sugar, and bake for a while. Then when hot, she added mini marshmallows and baked it😅 until marshmallows are melted and toasted. I like the bigger pieces of potatoes better than the whipped. Love your videos. Would you have any recipes for just 1-2 people? I lost my husband a few years ago and it’s hard for me to cut my recipes to smaller portions? Thank yu
We’ve made it with marshmallows before and we agree that it’s very good. But we enjoy the crunchiness of the pecans and the potatoes together this way. Sweet potatoes are always a treat any way they’re prepared we think! Tom believes in “cook once eat twice”. We are fans of leftovers! But if you ever need help cutting a recipe, we’ll be happy to help you. Thank you so much for watching our videos. We really appreciate it.

Yum! Take this recipe and put it in a pie shell. ❤️😊👍 I was sitting here saying “Don’t do it, Tom!” when he was blowing it and getting ready to bite into it. 😁 I bet I wasn’t the only one. LOL ~Sharon from Florida
Tommy just put this recipe in the oven… I threw in a pinch of cinnamon, hubby loves cinnamon and a bit of lemon zest on top…you’re right about the vanilla…holy cow, it’s gonna be tasty! Thanks Guys!! Happy Thanksgiving!❤
Love that you scrape your beaters and your bowl - - it frustrates me so much when people leave so much in the bowl! And I was wondering about those pecans - glad to see they finally got added :-)
Ok, The basic recipe is good. Next time, try adding some apple or pumpkin pie spices to it along with some orange juice concentrate or orange zest and maple syrup. My Mother always brought fresh sweet potatoes and boiled them in their skin till they were tender. Peel the potatoes after they cool some and add the butter and brown sugar to the potatoes while they are hot. Add Carnation evaporated milk also for creamy potatoes. Top the potatoes with your topping and bake in the oven for about 30 minutes. Renove the potatoes from the oven and top with miniature marshmallow. Place the casserole under the broiler (500 degrees) until the marshmallows are toasted. Don't leave the marshmallows unattended as they will burn easily. Hope you enjoy this alternative recipe. Oh, a sweet potato casserole will taste exactly like the batter so taste it before you bake it to make sure it is just right (Goldilocks). There was a company who produced candid sweet potatoes in a can but they since stopped manufacturing them. I wish the would bring them back. This is a good recipe for Sweet Potato Pie also.
Butter or ghee is the way to go. I overcook my ghee just a little. It gives it a nutty flavor. I love my sweet potatoes so very much, I will eat the contents of any size can when I am hungry or want a snack.
I had some sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving and my daughter made it with yams. She microwaved them and mashed them up It was the best sweet potato casserol e I have ever had. No marshmallows on ours. Just pecans, brown sugar, and coconut.
For one person, instead of a casserole, bake one sweet potato until done. About an hour at 350°. Split top and put in a dollop of butter and mix it into potato. I eat it with only butter, but if you want all those sweet calories, add brown sugar, cinnamon and as many miniature marshmallows as you can stuff in. You can return to oven for an additional ten minutes to melt marshmallows if desired. By the way, sweet potato skins are just as good to eat as regular baked potato skins!!!
I cook sweet potatoes. Mash them up add sugar butter carnation milk Then put topping on it like you. did!! very good I make it’s dry thanksgiving. my family loves it!!
Thank you so much for giving the people a recipe for sweet potatoes without smooshmallows!! I'm not a fan of them, even in s'mores, and every other recipe has them!

Sadly all we have of our parents & family are memories after they pass on. "Life is just not fair." Thumbs up to your videos always. Do you have a recipe for Candied Yams? I'd love to see it. Thanks for sharing your video. Many thumbs up. God bless you guys always.
Really was the best meatloaf recipe. Our son-in-law happened to bring 4 jars of Harry and David’s assortment of onion pepper relishes, been sitting in a pantry for months, and boom! This guy should’ve been an international chef easily! Good day
MIL made candied sweet potatoes, I can make them thick with the candy mixture but when I reheat them it turns back to liquid. I would like to see if Tom wants to show me how to make it thanks love you two. Made the peach cobbler to was a hit. Want to share this love is giving your wife the last helpings of peach cobbler married my high school sweetheart 66 years ago. last Helping of peach cobbler

Pecan topping is the way I go. Some people in my family like marshmallows, so once I made a big 9x13 with half marshmallow topping and half pecan topping, haha. But most of the time, I make two for Thanksgiving: one with marshmallows and one with pecans.

Just want to say I love watching your videos and a big "Thank you" to Melissa video taping and for always adding the recipes.
I am glad you are a scraper. I hate watching a cooking show and they don't scrape all the mixture out. Sometimes it's a lot. Love your recipes.
Tom and Melissa, I've been making similar recipe for many years. Use melted butter instead of softened and it works deliciously.
I'm from Chaffee, Missouri. I watch your vlog that you are really best cooking. My husband said Sweet Potato Casserole is delicious dishes.

We agree. In our opinion, it is definitely better for us to use real butter than margarine.
I had some sweet potato casserole for Thanksgiving and my daughter made it with yams. She microwaved them and mashed them up
It was the best sweet potato casserol e I have ever had. No marshmallows on ours. Just pecans, brown sugar, and coconut.
There is a BIG difference: sweet potatoes are filled with nutrition- yams are not.

Pecan topping is the way I go. Some people in my family like marshmallows, so once I made a big 9x13 with half marshmallow topping and half pecan topping, haha. But most of the time, I make two for Thanksgiving: one with marshmallows and one with pecans.
I love Sweet Potato Casserole
Finally someone who doesn’t ruin it with cinnamon! 😊
Sweet potatoes do not only need a little cinnamon, they do NOT need white sugar; only brown sugar.
Thanks for the butter tip! I do that too, and I am always worried about it spoiling. It's nice to know that it works for you too!
You are so welcome! We hope you enjoy this during the holidays! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Fixing this for Thanksgiving!
Love your tips and I love that you explain everything so well, love the little stories too😊 God Bless you both🙏❤️🇺🇸
One of my favorites. My recipe is so similar. Yummy. Thank you Tom.
I like it both ways but alone as a dessert mainly.🧡
I make my sweet potato casserole the same way with the exception that I bake my sweet potatoes.
LOL
