    Rip Waxer, he was a real one. We didn't follow Waxer and Boil like we did Fives and Echo, but he was one of the two clones who helped the scared little Twi'lek girl during the siege of ryloth arc back in s1. One of the earlier episodes that built character and sympathy for the clones.

    What’s even worse is that if you notice, Krell put Kenobi’s and Skywalker’s divisions against each other. Blue and Yellow, Cody and Rex, Waxer and 5’s. All things we recognize separately.
    Ironically this was the arc where I was like “Woah woah woah woah, this doesn’t seem like a kids show. This is really dark!” This was IMO where it became an adult show

      Krell did not set 501 and 212 against each other, the clones themselves are to blame for the fact that they did not bother to make sure who was in front of them and opened fire without hesitation, and later they dragged their stupidity onto Krell and accused him of pushing them, although in fact this is wrong.

    And that wraps up Umbara! This episode still gets me choked up. Waxer absolutely didn't deserve to go out the way he did. He was one of the first clones in the show who helped elevate the clones from "meat droids" to people with unique personalities when he found Numa on Ryloth. I'd also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that all the clones in this show are voiced by one guy, Dee Bradley Baker, a master voice actor. His performance of Rex when he finds out the clones are shooting each other is just amazing. You can feel the panic and the hurt in every one of his lines.
    A couple fun facts and just interesting things I noticed/liked: I really liked that when they go out to attack the "disguised Umbarans" that Tup saves Dogma from waking up and getting attacked by those Sarlacc light creatures. It just shows that even if they wildly disagree on something as dividing as Krell, they're still brothers who look out for each other. I already mentioned that Waxer was fist introduced with Boil in the Ryloth arc from season 1, but I wanted to just compliment how well this show humanizes the clones. Waxer, including where he's just in flashbacks, only appears in six episodes of the Clone Wars, yet his death is remembered as one of the most heart breaking moments of the entire series.
    Next, the entire scene with confronting, detaining, and eventually executing Krell is a big foreshadowing event for Order 66. Krell even says "It's treason, then.", the same line Palpatine says when Mace Windu, Saesee Tiin,, Agen Kolar, and Kit Fisto go to arrest him. The last thing I can really think to point out is that talk between Fives and Rex at the end. This season is getting into the last year of the Clone Wars, so it's really interesting to see that duality of the clones being happy that progress is being made, but uncertain and even a little scared of what happens to soldiers who were created for the sole purpose of fighting in a war when the war is over. We know what happens, obviously, but getting a glimpse into that mindset and seeing that point of view is really interesting.
    Well, we're just about to hit the halfway point for this season! I'm looking forward to what's coming next!

    The episode I’d nickname “Order 66 Done Right”
    You finally got to where Krell gets, to use a Vietnam era term, fragged. Umbara is likely the darkest arc in the Clone Wars. It’s also one the best arcs. Insubordination, Poor Leadership, Illegal Orders, Friendly Fire and more pushed the clones and what it meant to be a good soldier to the limit.
    Almost got the names of Tup and Hardcase right. And a reminder that Waxer was one of the troopers that cared for that little Twilek girl on Ryloth so long ago.
    And a question for those reading: What if Anakin returned right after the the friendly fire incident and was informed?

      I have a feeling as soon as Anakin heard the news of what happened with Krell and the 501st, he’d be probably be apologizing to Rex, that if he had been there, he would have been able to stop Krell from ever getting that far
      But Rex would probably tell Anakin he couldn’t have predicted what happened and it’s not his fault, but they’re more than happy to have him back and jokingly tell him they don’t wanna serve under any other general any time soon.
      Anakin and Rex always had good camaraderie. Overall, Anakin would be very sympathetic to Rex and his men, after all it is *his* legion. Could also further fuel Anakin’s hidden distrust for the Jedi (leading him slowly more down the dark side). A Jedi master like Krell turned right under their noses and got away with this kind of stuff for who knows long? No doubt he’d be the most unhappy about it.

      1. This was not an Order 66 for several reasons: it was not the jurisdiction of an Order 66 and no one could issue an Order 66 at that time. Order 66 does not imply the destruction of one individual, Order 66 implies the destruction of the entire Jedi Order.
      2. Krell's leadership wasn't bad. Although he has the highest casualties, he is also the most successful general of the republic. Moreover, the clones do not carry out the plan properly. At the moment when 501 was on the march and Krell sent Rex's company as the vanguard, it was an excellent decision, because the vanguard could prevent the main forces from falling into an ambush, after which Rex's vanguard was ambushed and instead of taking advantageous positions and holding them to wait for reinforcements, Rex made the most stupid decision by ordering the vanguard to retreat, thereby leading to the building of positions, revealing the location of the main forces, forcing Krell to throw soldiers into battle on the march. This situation is entirely Rex's fault.
      3. Almost all orders were legal. Shooting 2 disobedient clones is a common thing. The actions of these clones could lead to various consequences in the flesh, up to the complete destruction of all 501.
      4. Clones are also to blame for friendly fire; the clones could have spent literally a couple of minutes watching and spotting the clones or droids in front of them. 212's hasty actions forced both sides to clash in battle and lose soldiers, including at least one officer from Ghost Company. Krell can't be at fault here.
      5. Rex actually staged a mutiny, without any evidence that Krell actually specifically sent both units to deliberately fight each other, Rex persuades his soldiers and organizes a mutiny.
      6. The execution of Krell was also illegal; the clones had no right to execute a still serving senior Jedi general without the approval of the Republic's highest command and the Jedi High Council. At that time, there was no communication at the base, which means that no one at that time could remove Krell’s powers, much less execute him.
      Why did Rex hesitate before shooting? Because he understood that if he executed Krell, he would be put on trial and maybe even executed. Dogma took it upon himself to take this into account, executing Krell by signing his own verdict, which is why it is 99% likely that he was tried at the tribunal for the execution of a senior Jedi general and a Jedi master, without the approval of the highest command staff and the high council of the Jedi.
      It turns out that the clones were to blame for almost all the incidents, not following orders correctly or ignoring orders at all times.
      Yes, the operation generally failed due to the fact that Krell leaked all the plans, but it was in this particular situation that the clones were to blame for almost everything.

    This entire series is a compilation of tragedy. We get to know the clones, some on a very personal level - like with Domino squad - that when each one invariably gets taken down (like Waxer in this episode) it hurts a little bit more each time. Krell wasn't just a warning for the Jedi and the clones, he was - ultimately - a stand-in for when the Jedi discovered the Sith Lord, with their words and actions being a direct reflection of each other.

    Dogma, as much as y'all hate him, is what the clones are; soldiers bred to follow orders. While other clones like Rex have developed in their own ways, so did Dogma; he is a good soldier that follows his orders to the letter, hence the name dogma.
    As for Krell, he foresaw dark days ahead for the Jedi, and decided to try to jump ship. That's way he acted the way he did, the way you hated; getting his troops killed, either by umbarans getting the jump on them, or killing each other off in a trick, undermining the Republics efforts on the planet in hopes to appease Dooku, become his new apprentice, and survive and prosper in the new era. Combine that with the fact that Krell was one of the few Jedi in the entire order who did not like, trust or believe in the lives of the clones, made his decisions to use them as cannon fodder essentially a very easy choice for him.

    • @chopper3940
      @chopper3940 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Krell didn't just try to leave the ship because he saw the end of the order. Krell didn't just try to leave the ship because he saw the end of the order. Krell had long been disappointed in the order, like Dooku, and after the vision it gave him another strong impetus.
      Krell probably didn't use the cannon fodder strategy. Krell was the Republic's most successful general, albeit with the highest casualties. Achieving such a title by throwing clones at your opponent's superiority by at least 100 times is unrealistic. It turns out that Krell simply used decisive and risky strategies, which is why the losses were high and the successes even higher.

If he was loyal to the Jedi/Republic and was a hardass willing to sacrifice clones for a victory who then had to be executed because of the whole friendly fire incident it would have been a lot more intresting. Hell imagine if Rex used order 66 as a justification for the execution witch would have been a dark reminder of whats to come. Also executing Krell was tecknically a war crime at least in our world maybe they don't really care about that in Star wars. Then again it could not have happend to a more deserving guy exept Anakin.

    • @navybuddy1047
      @navybuddy1047 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This! This was my one singular gripe with this whole arc. I feel it would've been so much more interesting to have a loyal Jedi fighting for the Republic that just had a legitimate hate for a group that he felt were inferior. The evil card negates that and gives us an 'Oh, that's why he did it!' reaction. And this is merely my opinion, but it lowers the impact of the arc a bit as a result.

    • @chopper3940
      @chopper3940 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Krell is not just "I'm evil and I'm going to join Dooku"... Krell was always selfish, callous, arrogant and so on, his character was not at all like that of a Jedi Master, but his power gave him such a title. During the war, Krell was the most successful general of the Republic, albeit with the greatest losses, but judging by Rex’s actions, I can understand why the clones under his command died so often, they simply could not correctly carry out Krell’s strategic actions due to the fact that got used to the lack of normal strategy and tactics, preferring to simply run forward like fools.
      Krell probably wanted to be part of the Jedi Order, but he also knew about all the bad sides of the order because of which, perhaps even sharing Dooku's ideas. And after the vision, he was completely disillusioned with the Jedi and simply decided to survive in order to preserve his techniques and knowledge, as well as gain power and be part of the government, because he already understood that the Jedi Order was far from being a peacekeeping organization.
      Rex could not explain his actions with Order 66. Order 66 can only be issued by the Chancellor of the Republic in the event that the Jedi Order acts against the interests of the Republic. Also, if Rex had executed Krell, Rex would have been court-martialed and tried for the execution of a senior general and Jedi Master, so he hesitated, and Dogma took his place in this regard.

      What did Krell do? The most successful general of the republic. The clones under his command, at least on Umbar, were, objectively speaking, stupid and did not fulfill their duties. Krell saw enough of the future through the force that he realized the Jedi would lose the war, but he didn't see enough to realize it was Palpatine pulling the strings. He'll most probably die along Dooku, Grievous and the rest of the core CIS leaders. Ahsoka by the end of the Clone Wars can masterfully deflect blaster shots from a room full of clones at close range while holding back from killing them. Meanwhile the best that Krell can do is to deflect a bit and then retreat, can't even kill all the clones in close quarters.

    • @chopper3940
      @chopper3940 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UncleSheogorath Let's start with the fact that Ahsoka was able to reflect the shots around her, and only if the fire was not too dense, for two reasons.
      1. She is proficient in the Jar-Kai style, which allows her to effectively wield two lightsabers.
      2. Her training was part of the training, a real fight where the clones intend to kill or cause harm that will stop the enemy’s actions, everything will be much tougher.
      Plus I just rewatched this and this training is not even close to a combat situation or a Krell situation. During Ahsoka's training, there was a pause between the clones' shots, allowing Ahsoka to deflect the slow-paced shots. When Asoko was being chased for arrest, fire was fired at her mainly from 1 or at most 2 sides. Krell, in turn, successfully repelled the shots of about 10 clones aimed at least seriously injuring him, from all sides, killing five clones, then withstood the fire of a platoon of soldiers, and in the forest withstood a battle with at least two platoons, killing a total of almost 2 platoons of soldiers speaking alone against at least 1 company.
      Almost no Jedi would be able to withstand fire while still in the tower if the clones were aimed at neutralizing them at any cost.
      Yes, I agree with you, a Jedi master, a weapons master, exceptionally skilled in close combat and use of force, was able to create his own lightsaber style from at least 1 form and 2 styles, and the most successful general of the republic, would be absolutely useless.
      Ahhahaha, can't kill all the clones in close combat.
      1. As I already said, Krell withstood the fire of about 10 clones in the tower who were intent on killing him, killing five, and also did not kill Rex, Fives and Tap, in the tower only by the will of the plot, if these characters did not have the Krell plot armor would have killed Rex and Fives, as well as Tap.
      2. On the street, Krell withstood fire from at least 1 platoon of clones simultaneously, from 3 directions, killing more than 10.
      3. In the forest, Krell successfully killed about a platoon of soldiers.
      At the same time, Krell was killed only thanks to the miracle that a series of impossible events took place, which only happened thanks to the plot armor of some clones. If there were no plot armor, then Krell would have continued to chop down clones, would have been able to escape and would have become even stronger.
      I think the same Anaken would have been killed in the tower, because he would not have been able to carry out offensive actions being surrounded by clones who intended to kill.

    • @UncleSheogorath

      @@chopper3940 lol "Anaken" would have been killed but Anakin canonically can use force repulse, just like Krell. It will almost be the same scenario in the tower except the part where Anakin knocks out most of the clones since canonically he is a much *much* stronger force user.
      And just face it, if Krell was actually good he would've just massacred every clone in that room. The fact that the whole scene is him giving up, throwing a tamper tantrum before running away and only survived afterwards because the writers wanted to give him a poetic end by the hands of Dogma shows how mediocre he is.

    • @chopper3940
      @chopper3940 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UncleSheogorath I understand that you don’t really care for your strength during certain periods and in general.
      Yes, Anaken is the most powerful character in the universe in terms of strength. But Anaken simply did not have time to open up, even in the period of Darth Vader he never reached the peak of power, there was simply not enough time and circumstances. If we take Anaken specifically, then he loses to Krell and the clones in the same scenario that Krell was in. Simply because Anaken was not limited in power due to the Jedi code, he was too slow to develop as a Jedi.
      But if we take Darth Vader, he comes out of this scenario unscathed. But I can say the same about Krell, he, using the dark side of the force, in which he was weaker at that time than in the light, lost only because of a script miracle.
      Man, there were no prerequisites for the fact that Krell escaped; this is exactly the same situation as Grievous versus Kenobi.
      Grievous, in all 7 duels against Kenobi, could have killed Kenobi at least 11 times, but due to the scenario protection and the weakening of Grievous to the state of a slipper, he plays his role.
      The same situation with Krell, in Krell’s tower he was surrounded by more than 10 clones, with a point of force he knocked out at least 2 fighters, then during the battle he killed five, there were only about 5 clones left in the room, Krell could have easily killed them all, but there were key characters there who must not be killed under any circumstances. Then Krell, jumping from the tower, went into the forests of Umbara simply because it was too risky to fight with a minimum platoon of clones in the open. Already in the forest, Krell killed using the terrain near a platoon of soldiers without straining at all. There was not a single hysteria, there was only 1 in the tower, it was scenario armor.
      This was not a poetic ending, it was a waste for the sake of a waste, the creation of a powerful character and his murder by means of the script armor of some characters and an outright miracle.

    The reason Order 66 was so quick and brutal is because of what happened here. Trying to arrest a Jedi would get nearly all of the troops killed, so killing the Jedi as quickly as possible was the safer option. Ayala got shot in the back hundred times, brutal sure, but seeing what Krell did, the Clonetroopers would want to be 100% sure. Order 66 was kill only, no arrests. Tactically it was the best option, even if it was evil.

      Most of the Jedi could be easily arrested; the majority were extremely weak and could not even properly deflect shots. Krell is an exception, he is extremely skilled in lightsaber combat and created his own fighting style; even stronger Jeads, including council members, would not withstand such a barrage of fire. And Krell himself lost no longer because of the clones, but because of an incredible series of successful coincidences, where not even 1 link and Krell would continue to chop down the clones.

There for leaving clones stranded, treating them like crap or throwing clones at droids without care or remorse. I think this arc really puts the clones in the spot light to show us how far clones will go before the breaking point of their humanity and beliefs. Once again a great reaction :)

    It didn't take long for Umbara to fall: the locals were ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we were able to find out about General Krell, unlocked his secrets, and shattered our enemy's resolve. But not without a great cost.
    Our victory - your victory, Hardcase- was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But now you belong to Umbara. Your body, your armor - all charred and turned to ash. Everything… except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can fight on.

    As much as I loved this arc I really wish they'd have kept him a Jedi who hated clones because that wasn't a sentiment exclusive to Krell within the Jedi Order. I think it would've been much more interesting to have him come to see the value of the clones through their efforts in combat and grudgingly learn some respect for them, but hey, Jedi goes bad was fun too.

    one thing i say every time people watch this arc is that the clones are not droids, but they are programed like droids. from what we have seen some clones like dogma feel the programming more. with droids its easy to keep them programed by memory wipes and some droids (like RD and C3) almost never get wiped. but its a bit harder to reprogram a clone. for example many of the clones of the 327th Star Corps (have orange as their secondary color) face some of the toughest worlds and are usually more traumatized and by the end of the war many of them hated the jedi/ republic.

    The best part of Clone Wars really was the times that it took do what the prequels didn't and fleshes out the civil war. In these 4 short episodes we got evetything from betrayal and friendly fire to poor leadership that serves to further show that the Republic was *always* susceptible to corruption and that the Clones aren't just meat shieldsy but actual people who just had the misfortune of literally being bred for the conflict.

    this is an arc where Dee Bradley Baker shines, he's always great, but in an arc this clone-centric he brings his A-game.
    Krell's not a direct part of Palpy's plan, but he is a side-effect of it. He may have been a good Jedi once, when they were keepers of the peace, but in war the Jedi changed, their connection to the force changed, the dogma they followed (how very appropriate for dogma to be a theme) kept most of them blind to it, but some like Krell began to sense it and foresaw the coming shift in power and ultimately he is the kind who lends credence to the growing public assertion that the Jedi perpetuate the war and wanted more power for themselves.
    It's incredible how layered the writers were able to make this show as it grew, the Umbara arc is truly one of the greats.

    The thing i never got about this episode is that Krell gets all the blame for the friendly fire, deservedly so, but who was the clone that reported the stolen weapons and armor? Rex and Dogma both heard that guy report in and therefor knew that there was a legitimate possibility the enemy would disguise themselves, Krell just reminded them in the elevator.
    Krell took advantage of the situation, but why the heck would the clone report that so specifically? Why not *just* say "they overran our position"? That guy inadvertently helped get his brothers killed i swear.

    Damn it, guys, why so much cruelty? I agree that Krell deserved what he deserved, but I had no intention of enjoying it if he was tortured.
    I'll put it down to the fact that you're kidding and these conversations about torture, torment, slow murder were not serious.😉
    Wow, Bethany and Ken, I was just amazed by yours, I don't know how to translate it correctly, I'll call it dismantling the arch from a philosophical point of view. I liked. At some points I would argue with you why people live according to plans, and sometimes they hit spontaneity, tempted by bad habits and so on, but I won't, it will be a very long conversation. I can only say that living in society it is impossible to be free from society. But it's still great that you summarize in such a detailed way at the end. I would like such detailed results more often. It's getting nicer and nicer to watch both of you, although I'm not watching all the videos on both channels. Peace be upon you!😊

    So, Krell is an asshole through & through, I'm absolutely not agreeing with anything he stood for, but he was an interesting character for one reason: He saw through the shroud Palpatine had placed over the Jedi, & saw what was coming. His battles very purposefully slaughtered as many clones as possible because he foresaw the events of *_Order 66._*
    There was nothing he would be able to do about it as an individual, & attempting to inform his fellow Jedi wasn't going to work, because those visions of the future cannot be changed. Like the worms with Padmé, it still happened, but just not the way the vision implied it would. Krell also could not know that Palpatine was Sidous, & even if he _DID,_ he had no definitive proof like Skywalker did. The only way he could attempt to affect what would befall the Jedi was to get as many clones killed as possible.
    And as he proceeded with this, his views of the clones became callous, & unfeeling. However, these actions would slowly twist his own beliefs & who he used to be. He got so caught up in the slaughter of clones, that he stopped acting like a Jedi was supposed to. Sadly, he was too far gone to have any chance of redemption at this point, & so he tripled down on it. He realized he could save himself if he was no longer a Jedi, so he simply kept up the rouse for however long it would last.
    Sadly, the clones own unyielding loyalty & faith in the Jedi meant there were far too many Dogmas, & not enough Fives' to see what was happening quick enough...

    Oh, yes, I also wanted to add the last word to your opinion about Rex's act. I may have already left such a comment. In general, I will say in my own words simpler. If you are fighting something evil, even if you are fighting for a very long time, do not forget what you are fighting for, otherwise, you may not notice how you will become a reflection of your enemy. In general, as an example, if one of the negative traits of your enemy is the enjoyment of violence, do not adopt this trait. Otherwise, someone you know might tell you. Dude, you've been fighting evil all your life, and now have you become like them? There, look, there are the children of our enemy, go shoot, you're just as cruel now.
    Damn, something carried me, I'm sorry. It's just that from the latest news and conversations with my family, I was directly imbued with even greater hatred for these hypocritical fascist scum. Once again, I apologize for my lack of restraint. As always, I can't leave a short comment.😅 I'll try to be shorter next time and thank you.

      Krell was one of the best characters in the entire saga.
      Krell was literally created to be hated, and he fulfilled his purpose magnificently. Just because you hate him just means he's a great character.
      He was also one of the smartest Jedi who knew the problems of the order, knew how to strategy, and was an exceptional warrior. And he lost purely because of a series of incredibly stupid coincidences, where if at least one detail had been missing, Krell would have continued to chop down the Clones.
