    In this video, I lay out why I decided to switch cameras, from Canon to Fujifilm. I had shot Canon for a long time, using everything from a 5D Mark IV to the Canon R6. But I've officially switched my entire camera setup to Fujifilm, with the X-T4!

      I did too. But recently sold all my Fuji after owning my R6 for a year. I mainly shoot car pics and Fuji colors were not accurate. All the red brake calipers on cars lost color information fast in raw processing.
      Fuji is fun for personal pics, but professional pics where accurate color information is needed, the R6 is in another league.
      Still have a X-t1 though. I can’t part with that one.

    I agree with you in the aesthetics, and I think that both the X-trans sensor and Fuji glass is a killer combo. But I went in the opposite direction, twice, first from X-T2 to RP and recently from X-T3 to R6. While I think that Fuji glass is superior and gives more pleasant images (for the same price), it made me very sad in the AF department, especially on continuous AF. I could not be happier with the R6 in every department, and there is a lot of fine EF glass that works seamlessly for good prices, especially used. Good review!

    I switched from a Canon DSLR to a Fuji X-T4 9 months ago and agree with everything you've said. Love this camera!
    I have had an 80D because I shoot vintage lenses lenses and although it works with most M42 mount lenses Exakta mount lenses would hit the frame of a FF camera. Last summer I wanted to go mirrorless. I had already decided for a Sony a7 iii. But in the shop I didn't like the handling and the menu of the Sony at all and the X-T4 caught my eye. A camera that looks like a camera and - with all the knobs on the top plate - feels like a (film) camera. Love it. But I still shoot film, even more than digital, and also medium and large format. And I on my X-T4 I shoot only vintage lenses and love the process and results.

      @@PaulStrople I think you will like it a lot! 👍 You can adapt almost everything to the X-T4. If you would like to adapt your Canon EF lenses you would need an adapter that allows you to control the aperture. For vintage lenses with manual control aperture you can either go for a simple adapter from the respective mount to FX or a lens turbo/speed booster which gives you a FF equivalent angle of view and one more stop of light.

      That’s rad! I don’t even have my canon cameras any more… but if I did, they’d be collecting dust. I had a Canon 6D II and a Fuji X-T3 simultaneously for awhile, and I ALWAYS reached for the X-T3. So, eventually I just sold all my canon gear (because it was just collecting dust) and bought an X-T4, and some Red Badge XF lenses.

    Thank you for sharing your experience, Paul! We traded in our Leica, Nikon Z7, and Panasonic S1 for Fujifilm gear. We started out with the T1 and tried every series up to the T4. We love the T4. However, there are times that we wished we had a full frame camera for improved dynamic range, cropping, and image quality (higher resolution).
    I started to look at the Canon R5, Sony A1, Nikon Z7 Mark II, and Nikon Z9. All of those cameras offer improved image quality, dynamic range, and, if needed, cropping. As for glass, Sony has more options. However, I believe Canon and Nikon offer the glass we would require.

    I stumbled on this video by looking for “X-T4 in 2022”. I loved my Fuji system. Just about everything with the X-T4 was awesome. My biggest downside was the overheating with 4K-60. I’d shoot a lot for slow motion 24p content. That’s why I switch to the A7SIII. But I feel like there’s something missing. I can’t quite pinpoint it. The color profiles from Fuji are unlike anything else IMO. Even shooting RAW and using one of the Fuji profiles in post for photo. I just really enjoyed the experience.

    I started on Kodachrome 64 and Konica and have been through MANY different camera systems since and I recently made a HUGE move from Nikon to Fujifilm both APS-C and GFX. I think Fuji got it right to focus on these 2 formats alone. Like they say, if you really want to upgrade your image quality, skip full frame and go straight to medium format. Of course it all depends on your photographic purpose. About 70% of my work with APS-C and the rest of medium format. The best of both worlds in my opinion.

    @yannisvaroufakis9395 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just chanced upon your channel, and it was very timely, since I’m considering going in the opposite direction, from a Fuji XT-3 to a Canon R6. I had a Canon 5D III for 9 years and loved its images and spot on autofocus in all situations. I traded it in 2 years ago for a Fuji XT-3 for the size and weight saving for travel. I don’t do video at all, only stills. I was also attracted to the return to the analog shutter speed/ISO/aperture dials that I was used to from my days of shooting with my beloved Nikon Photomic FTn. The little buttons of the Canon were a disconnect between me and my photography, so much so, that I mostly just left it on A+ and shot it as an enormous point and shoot. The Fuji brought back the joy of photography that I hadn’t experienced since my Nikon film days. But over the past 2 years I have grown frustrated by the hit or miss of the Fuji’s AF system, which compared even to my decade old Canon, is relatively primitive, even with the eye AF and latest firmware. Only about 50% of my people pictures are razor sharp, as opposed to the Canon where I had an over 90% success rate in all situations, both static and action. I had the original 24-105 f/4 L with the Canon, and with the Fuji I now have the 16-80, 55-200, 16/ 1.4, 35/f2 and the new 33/ 1.4. I would say, comparing apples to apples, the 16-80 is superior to the 24-105L optically and with respect to IS. The 33 is truly amazing, but even with it, I trash about half the images of my 5-year-old, recalling every time I hit the garbage can button how I have almost all of the images I took of him with the Canon, which are good enough to pay big $ to have printed to gallery display quality standards. The hits with the Fuji are far less frequent, but they do make me say “Holy Shit!” when I see them more so than the Canon images. I hear that the performance advance of the AF on the R6 is almost extraterrestrial in comparison to the old 5D III. With that, plus what I hear about the IBIS, improved low light capability and better optics of the RF glass, I am about to hit the “add to cart” button for the R6 with 24-105 f/4 RF L and trade in the Fuji gear. When I’m traveling the world with my family I want greater insurance that I will nail images that can never be re-taken. I’d love your feedback and perspective, as you’ve had actual experience with the R6 and the Fuji.

    • @PaulStrople
      @PaulStrople  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Yannis!
      If what you’re looking for is solid autofocus that nails a nearly 100% hit rate… you’ll be happy with the R6!
      My personal tastes favor image tone and quality, as well as an analog shooting experience, which is why I went Fuji. I personally have had no issues with Fuji’s autofocus (I use the red badge 16-55 f/2.8 for everything, and it’s great.)
      But If near instant, accurate and reliable autofocus is your primary need, you’ll be very happy with the R6. 😁

      Thanks Paul! What I think I’ll do is wait to see what Fuji’s new cameras will be. I’m hoping they release an X Pro 4 with improved AF that’s on par with Canon. Then I’ll definitely stick to Fuji, since I’ve invested a lot of money on their lenses. If not, then I’ll return to Canon. Appreciate your feedback! Cheers!

    Good video. I think Canon gets way too much credit for their color science. It was so rewarding to turn a marginal picture into a keeper in Lightroom 1.0, but I am over that and don't want significant adjustments to be a requirement for most pictures. I have an R5. It is an amazing camera other than the colors. The camera seems to struggle with greens in particular. Fix grass in the background and the rest of the picture is garbage. I do a lot of subject masks to get good pictures out of the R5. I also have a Z6 and I love almost every (in focus) picture that it produces. The colors are amazing with no adjustment. My dream camera would be a Z6 with the R5's auto focus (and maybe the aperture control on the lens).

I've considered the R6, z6ii, and a7iv, but I really don't need FF and especially don't need the FF cost and weight. So I'm looking at the Fugi xh2s, xh2 and xt5. Since I'm 95% photography (only 5% video) in leaning towards the xt5. I might be interested in the xpro4 (when it comes out) if it had an LCD similar to the xt5/xt3. But i be honest they need to catch up to Sony or Canon’s AF accuracy and consistency to have any chance i use Fuji solely for my wedding work. My Canon mirrorless are head and shoulders better in AF. & I still don’t have the confidence to solely rely on the Fuji AF for those crucial moments, lets see maybe the upcoming XH2 will address this issue. Otherwise Fuji is all i use for my portraits and personal stuff the AF is more then ok for static subjects.

    I started photography with a Canon A1 & F1, both of which are film cameras. Fast forward over the last 30-40 years, & I have used everything from the original Canon 5D mark 1, Canon 7D mark 1, to the Canon 5DSR. I loved Canon & still do. However, with the new R mount lens system and new mirror less camera bodies, I chose NOT to “buy”in to a new & even more expensive camera system. I know that I can use an adapter for my canon L Len’s to use on the new canon bodies. Eventually, I knew I would have to invest in new R Len’s as Canon no longer services some of my L glass. Enter Fujifilm. Excellent optics, robust/ dependable / camera bodies at a “fraction” of the expense of entry into the Canon mirror less system. Although there are a few features that I may miss from Canon, namely the excellent autofocus, I have found that my Fugi X-T 3 cameras have been more than “good enough” for my professional needs. I enjoy the Fuji shooting experience with their cameras, & I have no regrets since leaving Canon & my cost savings have been “ Significant.”

I always wanted a camera, and didn't want to buy a cheap camera, just to then, buy another one, more expensive, so, yesterday I've bought the Fuji XT4, with the 18-55 ,I prefer photography than videography, cause I would need a gimbal and stuff, but photography is almost general, you can do a ton of stuff, with your hands. But, I also want to film something, so... XT4 it is xD, I would have chosen the XT3 if it was only for photos tho. Thanks for articulating your thoughts on why you switched. As a techie type, I was curious: given lots of experience with post processing tools, how many minutes were you saving on average shooting Fuji with its out of camera JPEGs vs. what you were doing with your Canon gear? If you had to go to RAW files, what tools were you using to get close to Fujifilm film simulations? I switched from Canon DSLR when the Fuji X-T1 came out; loved Canon color for skin tones and Fujifilm for everything. How was Canon EOS R color science vs. older Canon EOS DSLRs? Aside from color science any other interesting differences between Canon EOS R vs. Fuji-X?

    • @PaulStrople
      @PaulStrople  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As for saving time with Fuji vs canon in post processing…
      With Canon I’d spend sometimes 20 minutes on a photo, or hours on a batch of photos.
      With my Fuji… I hardly ever even edit at all.
      I haven’t opened Lightroom more than twice in the last 3 months.
      As for RAW processing (which is now a rarity for me), my go-to tools are Lightroom and Capture One!

      I got an R6 after owning the 90D for the past 2 years and i can say that the R6 produces warmer images than the 90D given the exact same whitebalance preset. No idea why.
      But the pictures are turning out very nicely and cannot relate to the complaints presented either in this video or the comment section.
      For the 90D my biggest issue was the retarded Adobe Color Preset because no official camera presets were made available in Lightroom. This was bad because it meant i was starting my editing process far from where I was expecting to be when taking the picture. I worked that out though and now with the R6 also having camera matching presets i dont need to do much, most of the time.

    Hi Paul Strople, without wishing to detract from my endorsements of your choices, I feel I should point out that in fact on a purely technical level what you say at the start of this video about colour science in not quite correct, while it is true that post processing can make any picture conform to any chosen profile it can only use the real data provided by the original file, there is a total maximum 'volume' of that data and if it includes a load of colour information which is not to your liking then it has to be crimped, any colour information that you do want but comes in reduced volume has to be amplified to compensate and this also amplifies the noise. From the subjective view of most people this will not be visible because the overall quality of most cameras nowadays far exceeds the capacity of the human eye so my criticism is pedantic at best, it does remain for me however that the Fujifilm cameras that I have always used always give me the output which most closely matches what I see at the time, the picture matches the perceived reality, I have a copy of what I could see.
    Many other photographers have a more creative eye and want to see how the technology can seem to enhance reality, in the end the best system is the one that most closely matches your requirements.
    Cheers, Richard.

      Hence the subjectivity of things like this I think.
      I loved my R6… but personally I love my Fuji more. ❤️

    Colour science is subjective but I feel your face is not as reddish as in real life. In saying that, Fuji knows about skin colour, as does Nikon. Sony never made analogue cameras so they'll probably never learn about photography. My main photo camera is still a 2014 Samsung NX1, and guess why.
