  • After owning the Fujifilm XT4 for 2 years, I think it is still the perfect camera for me. Is the Fuji XT4 still worth it in 2022? Yes! And for a long time to come! I go over why I bought it, how I use it and what accessories I ended up picking.

    I totally forgot to mention that I LOVE the quick switching between video and photo modes, while having fully separated settings menus behind them! :) You can have totally different settings for video shooting or photo mode and switching between them keeps your settings. This is golden when in a rush or on the move with people who aren't interested in waiting for a camera nerd to adjust settings.

    I must say that this is the only video made out of pure and genuine love of the product or work. No sponsors, no drama, not affiliated, just a real and honest review. These days most of the TH-camrs gives review based on monetisation and sponsorship. Moreover, some have balls to do review only after using few days🤦

    As an Xpro 2 user with the 35mm 1.4 lens... I need video know... I have been going mad with all the choices. Everything you have said makes sense, the set up i sperfect, for a powerful light and hybrid set up. With the XT5 coming out hopefully the XT4 drops in price. Love the video, the story and simplicity. Subscibed!

Curious as to your experience with the XPRO for portraits and why you want to go to the XT4? Not that I think it’s a bad choice I’m just curious about your thinking. I have the XT4 and the Pocket 4k, they are different tools. For video the Pocket is much more cinematic and easy to grade in davinci, you also have the xlr inputs and, the codec is great, no recording time limit, overheating etc... Fuji is very sharp and looks modern, but it is very convinient.

    Yup I'm a physical dials person myself
    I hate fiddling with touch and release buttons while looking at a screen to verify that I switched the dial to iso mode instead of shutter
    Also it's enough pro for me at it almost almost looks like a c70 in video which is a dedicated video camera
    The 240fps 8bit leaves something to be desired but a welcome tool for nich shots
    The 120fps and 60 4k 10bit modes are jaw dropping
    The FLog could be a bit more flexible with a set ground iso of 640 but the dual iso 2000 FLog mode makes this a low light beast with amazing feel to the video
    The film simulations and exposure metering modes are spot on and get film like results paired with a halation pro-mist or a polarizer filter
    The the 4k DCI 400mb 4.2.2 10bit 24fps is to die for as the quality is jaw dropping even at iso 800 with a baked in simulation
    The ibis is a welcome edition but not the greatest
    Gimbal compatibility isn't always present with less accessories than the big boys brands although DJI ronin series managed to integrate an electronic focus puller with a special usb connector which is amazing for a one man band shooter
    The picture spectrum is amazing and the granula control with a very flexible raw file gives amazing photo results
    Autu focus is enough for me
    Never wavered on me till now
    I mainly use viltrox primes f1.4
    Great video lenses with linear f stop
    Cheap and amazing results with great low light flexibility
    It's been an absolute joy to use the system
    And the results speak for them selves
    I'm not switching to full frame anytime soon
    This bad boy will run looooooong before I consider anything else
    Unless an xt5 is on the horizon

    Good work. May I ask two things: What product is this orange battery holder? Where to buy? And even more important: How are you saving your photos? External harddrive? SSD? Or a NAS? I lost so often photos by failure of hard drives and looking for a safer system. Thanks and keep up your work.

I don't remember the exact name of the orange thing but it's a weather resistant battery case. It fits two batteries and a spare SD.

    Thanks for a great video! I am an X-T4 owner and really love the camera. I wish it had better video AF but no camera is perfect. The XH2s has been announced advertising improved AF that tracks animals, birds, trains, cars etc. That is very enticing but I doubt I would sell my X-T4 to get it. I think sticking with what you have and learning the system makes a lot of sense. The technological fever to keep buying new gear is unsustainable, especially for hobbyists like me.

    Great review. I share your sentiments. I also shoot doccies, commercials, etc and had the Sony FS7, 1DX Mkii, Nikon and the list goes on. Expensive cameras when you're a lone shooter. So when my FS7 was stolen here in South Africa along with my 5DIV and all lenses I was at a loss as to where to go. After reviewing everything , it always came back to Fuji. The bang for buck is huge with this camera. Lenses, while not cheap are far less than Sony or Canon. The RF glass is beautiful but incredibly expensive. I recently got the 90 f2 and this lens is incredible. I use this lens when space permitting for talking heads interviews and portraits. Fuji glass is impressive and doesn't break the bank too much. For what I paid new for the Canon 1DXMkii I got 4 lenses and an XT4 with battery grip and dual charger. I want a system that just works and not spending constantly on upgrading gear. Its at home shooting stills and video, clients are loving the colors in stills and video. Looking forward to the new cameras from Fuji and I'm pretty confident they will have better autofocus in the new ones.

    • @DieterVanHolder

      I feel you man! That theft must have felt like getting slammed against a wall... Unfortunately I know from experience. It's great to see you enjoy the system as well. I'm also very curious about the new model that's probably coming in May. I'm hoping it's going to add on to the video capabilities. The only thing tempting me right now is the black magic pocket cinema camera's. But that would be a massive investment for me.

    • @bccreativeproductions9767
      @bccreativeproductions9767 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DieterVanHolder yes exactly. The Black magic is an incredible camera as well. Arri like look. We were shooting lifestyle shots for Samsung and all the crews were shooting off Black magic cams. Like you I also just want new kit 😂. The new Canon EOS R5C also looks incredible. My only gripe with that camera so far is its battery life . Some reviewers have said you will need at least 8 or 9 batteries to get through the day of shooting video. So that's a definate no from my end as I can't be worrying about lighting, sound etc and a power hungry camera that will add significant cost to me due to so many batteries. I honestly don't think you can buy a "bad" camera these days. Whilst I really loved my FS7, for run and gun it was a handful with lens changes, weight and switching lenses and manually focusing. Of all of these cameras, this little Fuji XT4 will remain. This means I have a camera Im totally happy with and paid for. There is not an assignment I can't shoot with this little camera. Unicef to major corporates. It will be a very hard sway to get me away from this system. Not to say I won't, but honestly this does everything. Yes...having gear stolen is eye watering to say the least. So much work lost and having to rent a camera you already owned:( Also being out with a tiny mirrorless camera, you kind of blend in so as not to cause a stir on shoots. This suites me well :) All I want though is more reliable autofocus. I never relied on it before but its huge when it works. I think even during the times we are all going through, there will be plenty to choose from this year:) Resoloution war is also ridiculous . Our clients even ask for 720 and at most 1080. Its not really the camera we should be worrying about as much as lighting :)

    • @DieterVanHolder
      @DieterVanHolder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bccreativeproductions9767 spot on. I recently put together the recording space you see in this video. I'm publishing in 4k because I can. But the biggest upgrade to my novice production quality has been investing in some lights and mic/interface.

    • @bccreativeproductions9767
      @bccreativeproductions9767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DieterVanHolder best move. We all concentrate on gear far too much. I also am on a quest to really up my lighting game. It's incredibly important. A well light interview for video or stills in any resolution or MP will beat anything out. Remember we never once complained about movies shot in 2k on Arri when growing up :) The lighting however...Thats as if not more important.

    This is one of those rare videos where one genuinely has to think about not spending silly money every 6 months to a year on new gear, just to satisfy a thirst for evolving technology or having a shinny new toy for the hell of it. I still use a late 2014 camera for both stills and video (the magnificient Samsung NX1). The X-T4 is still a great hybrid for years to come. The only negative is the silly internal recording limits that forces you to spend more silly money on an external recorder, if you can't stand recording limits (like I do). Congratulations on your honest down to earth video.
