The thought and imagination in this project is epic!!! The amount finds you have while dumpster diving is also amazing!! The overall effect is truly amazing!!!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The dumpsters of Copenhagen (and honestly, every city I've lived in) are a underexploited source of creative material!!
As someone who grew up in a historic house, hodge podge of time periods is definitely accurate. There were more than several decades in that house just in crown moulding and construction alone (and like four in just the fireplace!) Despite it being a balmy 15°C rn, this really has me fired up for getting cozy with a cup of tea, and maybe instead of casting iron, I'll cast on some knitting. 😂 lets hope the picture viewer doesn't brick anytime soon, because I don't think a plaster will solve that.
I feel pretty lucky that the late Edwardian house I grew up in suffered from enough neglect that many of the original elements were preserved, and the newer additions were mostly done in a rather slipshod manner, so they were fairly easily removed. Alas, the picture viewer (along with the whole facade) had to be left back in Denmark because there was no way I was fitting it in a suitcase, but we did use it a TON actually, and I'd love to find another one to redo. Or maybe use a flat-screen TV and do a larger scale version... we are always finding those laying around!
@@ShannonMakes I think ours was built during the 1770s, but then burned down during the war, and the foundation was salvaged and moved then rebuilt in the early 18-teens. There was a LOT goin on in that house. Sometimes I miss the memories made there, but I don't miss all the dust 😅 "I Built A Firesafe Giant Foam Fireplace!" sounds like the clickbait title from 2007 and I'm so here for it 👏👏👏
@@Nebulouslystarlight oooh, 1770s?!?! That's so cool (possibly literally, in the winter, if not properly insulated, but I meant more in the figurative sense of the word)! But yea, I can see what you meant about the hodge podge of eras... and the dust!
I couldn't agree more! (also, quite chuffed that an actual Dane responded to the hygge comment, which my computer insists on auto-correcting to "higgle" each time I type it 🙃 )
Absolutely loved this. I’ve been a miniaturist all my adult life and live anything made smaller. This was beyond fabulous. Could not believe how well it turned out! ❤❤❤
At last the fireplace! You did a great job on it. All the planning and detail you put into it. I think it's perfect. Are you going to put it on the shelf, or maybe put Cannell,'s fainting couch in front of it so she will have a warm and cozy place to dream of all her adventures to come in the new year. Considering that it started life as a pile of junk, it's a great fireplace.
Oh, I'm glad you of all people enjoyed it! I think it might live in our living room, we have both a small corner table and a deep window-sill that are quite empty. Although I don't doubt that Cannelle would appreciate it as well XD
@@ShannonMakes I loved it. I showed my husband and asked if he could make one for me. He said no. I guess I'm going to have to do it my self. Hope you and yours have a happy Holiday season.
You absolutely should do it yourself!! And honestly, you can probably find a digital photo frame on Marketplace or Craigslist for pretty cheap, and then the results would be *even better* - as it is, I don't even mind the mediocre resolution on mine, it's just the interface that drives me a bit batty!
Thank you!! I'm incredibly glad you liked it... not so many people have watched it, but I still spent a lot of time on it, and it's fun to get positive feedback
Yessssss I will definitely give it a watch, and I am totally going to binge your videos now that I found your channel!! You were recommended to me by JillianEve and we were admiring your amazing crafting skills and stellar filmmaking skills. I am blown away and can't wait to follow your journey!!
I first heard the term "hygge" from Sandi Toksvig, the "Randy Scandy" host of QI. If you're not familiar with the British quiz program, I highly recommend it. It's on TH-cam. This is such a lovely project, showing off a wide range of skills, major respect to you!
I have absolutely never heard of it, but I'll go check it out! Living in Copenhagen, I'm pretty much constantly surrounded by hygge, or "higgle" as my computer keep auto-correcting it! Thanks for watching & sharing!
I love the concept of the five foot test... you just elevated everything I've ever made to perfection with your innovative way of looking at finished projects! 😂
You are so welcome! Glad you're enjoying the archives... this one was a very under-appreciated video, but honestly, I friggin loved that little fireplace, and actually used it a TON while I was still in that house!
I love the dumpster cam segments! They add great context to the materials you're working with for those of us who just got here and haven't seen that video. I do wonder though...who threw out a perfectly good corgi? :) Great video!
Glad you like them!! And definitely worth checking out the whole dumpster video (plus I have one from Montreal too, if you want to compare and contrast)! 🥰🥰🗑️♻️🔥
Awww thank you so much for the shoutout! The fireplace is so darn adorable and cozy 🥰. By the way, we should do a dumpster challenge when the weather warms up 😂
Oh, but aren't they wonderful?! I had one going nearly 24/7 for most of December and January of last year! Not quite as good as a real fireplace, but still, a great alternative 😊
What a brilliant idea! I need such a fireplace for my piglet-shooting. I will now look even closer at the dumpsters. How is your leg? Miko would like to let Canelle know that I have failed to construct a fainting couch up to now and that he is very disappointed in me. He hopes you all have cosy days and lots of treats. Yours Fanny
OK, but now I have to ask... what is a piglet shooting?! The leg is behaving itself, and Cannelle currently has snow, so she's in high spirits as well! Tell Miko he can have Cannelle's when we move out of Denmark, if he's willing to curl up really small ;-) Warmth and cheer to you both! xox
@@ShannonMakes the piglets are kind of my roommates...not real ones though. Will send you pictures via Instagram. Good to hear that the leg behaves well. So you do not intend to take the fainting couch where ever xour next contract may take you? Does Canelle know? Miko is very eager that I assure you that he can curl up very small 😉
Got the photos, they're adorable! And no, the couch will be staying here (perhaps I'll sell it to another local pet owner?)... it doesn't seem very practical to transport back to Montreal, as much as I would love to do so :-/
No idea, unfortunately, if I remember correctly (it’s been over a year), it was just in a 1890s book of fireplace designs and mottos. Might be linked in the description, but I’m not sure
Wow, speedy reply! Random story time: My parents live in a Victorian town house in Caernarfon (no OG fireplaces sadly, as flues were in desperate need of repairs etc), and the place is steeped in history - an elderly gentleman came knocking at our door and he said his grand parents used to live in my parents house in the 20's-50's. They were v posh and actually had servants still! He'd visit them every Sunday, but they were so strict that he wasn't allowed to play, especially in the back garden... He sold us an old lithograph from 1860 which actually has the house pictured in it! Naturally there are more stories (not least about my mother's collection of cast iron singer sewing machines!) For another time! X
@@ShannonMakes she would absolutely LOVE this, I am sure! Historybound? Craft? Improvised? And most of all, miniature?? Chef’s kiss! How do I tag a youtube celebrity, dang it?
This is so inspiring🥰. But sorry, the music is a little bit too loud and intense for my liking. Your editing of the visual part is so awesome that I think silence could have been good enough. I don't even think your spoken explanations were all that necessary. But I appreciated the brief history on fire places😊. Please keep on making your videos, I really like everything you create!
I'm sorry you found the music too loud, please feel free to turn the volume down and use the closed captions; I make it a point to add subtitles in my newer videos for exactly this purpose. I'm glad you found it inspiring and informative, and thank you for watching!
I love how she hoards random junk and makes pretty thing from them. Which is, ironically, historically accurate.❤️
This comment gives me so much joy 🤩🤩 Thank you!
