So many things I love about this video: 1. That both you and Phil work on the floor in a half split 2. Me watching the gold go on, and commenting to myself how much better it would look with some aging, and then being so excited when you started to apply the aging 3. Canelle supervising the whole process 4. Watching her fall asleep on the couch at the end was so adorable
Haha, I showed your comment to Phil, as it's a fairly regular "let's work on something together" position for us! Also HECK YES to the weathering (one of my favorite parts)! And yes, Cannelle was the client/head supervisor/design consultant/napper-in-chief all in one! So glad you enjoyed it
So cool to see you take the couch apart and reveal the old layers of fabric. The 'pea soup green" was probably a more vibrant green -closer to evergreen shades in its hayday. Haha hay.. its also cool that the hay did not look super moldy after a hundred years in there I was lucky enough to get my hands on a free antique couch put out for trash as well in early 2020! Was very lucky as it went out after a rain not before. It spent 2 months in my garage because this area has a beg bug problem-was inspected and passed with no pests or mold issues so now it sits in my sewing room! My dogs like to sleep on it while I'm in here. I put an old quilt blanket on it so they don't wear out the fabric. The only thing is the fabric is pink.. and I don't particularly like pink.. but I've gotten use to it.
Hay-day.... LOL. Love it! Also, awesome find on your part as well. Montreal also has a bedbug problem, so it's good you got it checked out, but I'm glad the dogs get some use out of it too! Agreed that pink is not my color of choice either, but for a (free) antique.... worth it!
Corgis, couches and cargo bikes... oh my 😅 I wouldn't say your construction montage simplified the process, it still looked like a heck of a lot of work! Amazing job, this was incredible 🙌
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! (and if you saw all the parts I cut out for the sake of everyone's sanity and attention spans, you'd understood what I meant 🤣🤣) And yes, it was a TON of work, but it was fun work!

And yes, it absolutely has her seal of approval... it's currently sitting next to my Christmas tree (you can see it a bit in my Vintage Holiday sewing video), and she uses it all the time and looks like a scene from a Hallmark Video!!
You can tell you are used to working as a team - it always ends in a row when my husband and I try to do any sort of diy together. Beautiful sofa for a gorgeous dog.
Again, a definite labour of love project, that both of you partook in! I love it and I knew Cannelle would love it and actually use her little fainting couch *hehe* You certainly made it beautiful, and I think Queen Elizabeth II would have loved it as well for her corgi's. Another masterpiece 😍💖🐕
Thank you so much! Glad you're enjoying the videos, just as much as Cannelle is enjoying her couch 😄🐶 And I wouldn't be surprised if the Queen's corgis did indeed have something similar!!
I just love that you and Phil worked together on this project. It turned out so good, no not good AWESOME. She looks like a royal princess sitting or laying. Good job you two. I have been binge watching and I am still not caught up. Love me some good video. Thank you for all the time you put forth to keep us entertained.
Yea, when I looked into it a bit further, I think it probably was excelsior/wood wool! And just by the way it was constructed, I think it almost definitely was an antique (but also in pretty crappy condition)!
I laughed when you said you had no power tools and I wondered how long it was gonna take you to find one and it looked like it happened fairly soon. Lol (I’m so impressed by what you can do!)
I am greatly enjoying the clear play-by-play of your comments XD Glad you enjoyed the video, it's by FAR one of my favorite projects to date (and yes, we did have a couple power tools, but I think only two, and NOT the ones we needed to break that darn couch apart 😭😭
This is both ridiculous and sublime! I love it, great job Shannon and Phil! I think my dog would literally swoon if presented with such a beautiful custom-made piece of furniture! 10 out if 10!
Well for me, I definitely feel like the sofa was much more of an achievement in terms of recycling and problem solving abilities, but I won’t judge you if you prefer the wagon, cuz that was a cool one too!!
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy every single thing you put out there. I love your enthusiasm, engenuity and spirit of adventure. I get very angry when I see critical or nasty comments getting posted. I hope you'll continue to ignore them. Have fun with your new home. I can't wait for the next post. By the way, I'm in my 80s, but we are kindred spirits! Big hug to you!
This is the best, and Cannelle is deserving of a fancy fainting couch, she is so well behaved. You did such a good job putting this together I’ve watched this video three times in case I need to make one for my cat.
This is delightful! I’m happy you were able to reuse the fabric, though I must say that it grossed me out when I saw that mold initially. Yuck, glad it washed out.. You and Phil did such a wonderful job on this.
Thank you for the kind words! (and yea, it was gross, but it’s nothing a combination of cutting around and vigorous, repeated washes couldn’t solve 😂😂)
Ahhh cute corgieness inspiration. They have inspired our family through the last 44 years of family union. Sometimes a baby in a carriage complete with bonnet, a teacher, or even a physician with green eyeglasses and a stethoscope and always adorably cooperative and a people pleaser. Really enjoyed 2 of your vlogs and hope to watch more soon.. Current no dogs in our little retirement cabin on the back of our sons property but enjoying our two grandoggers. I seriously think of upping the anti with an adorable female corgi. One can but hope…. PS your maker skills are excellent. Thanks again 🦋🙊🤝🙌🏻Marjorie from Georgia US
Hello Marjorie and welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and it's true that that little doggo brings so much joy and entertainment into my life! She's quite spoiled, but then again, so are your granddoggers I'm sure! Thanks for watching, I've got a few others on the channel that are corgi-specific (she just won a Paw-lloween costume contest a few weeks ago), and otherwise the rest are mostly sewing and crafting!!
Saw the Corgi couch in several later videos. But oh boy, what a labor of love you two executed! An absolutely stunning result and it fits perfectly to your sweet dog.
What a genius you are. I love it. I think you could do anything you set your mind to. Both of you did a beautiful job. By the way, I just love your sweet fur baby. God bless.😊❤❤
I've got an armchair of similar age and materials, called Algernon. Mine is the same green colour, which was very common for upholstery in the early decades of the 20th century. The "hay" is actually coconut fibre.
So after doing some research, it looks like my "hay" is more likely excelsior - another common fiber used in upholstery in the past... very fun to see though, right?!
I've done some pretty extra things for my cats... but this is so amazing! I've watched -- and been inspired by -- your clothing videos but somehow missed this one til now. Blown away.
Thank you!! And also thanks so much for actually going back through the archives and watching older Makes… I really appreciate it (and there are some really fun projects in there)!!
I just watched your sewing table video, and subscribed as soon as you said Montreal , and Corgi! (I’m in Ottawa) 🇨🇦🐾🐾 then I came to see the Corgi fainting couch and IT’S BRILLIANT!! I love every single thing about it! That was a labour of love, and definitely looks Corgi approved! I’m now on to watch Corgi Sherlock Holmes costume. I can’t wait! Thank you for this tutorial. I’m in the process of making a Bloodhound couch. 🙂
Ohh it is DEFINITELY corgi approved! That was made while in contract in Copenhagen, it came with us back to Montreal, and is currently in Nova Scotia, and gets daily use in all three cities!
@@ShannonMakes oh, it’s a “Travelling Corgi fainting couch!” Cannelle is one lucky pup! They are so worth it though!! I dragged a child’s crib with a really super clean baby mattress across the street from my neighbours a couple of weeks ago. Big Bloodhound needs a big bed. I’ll construct something around that. I know for sure it will not be as spectacular as Cannelle’s though.
What a beautiful fainting couch for a very beautiful sweet fur baby. I can tell she is very loved love ❤️ hug's and kisses to the beautiful sweet adorable fur baby from me love ❤️ love ❤️ the couch I'm so glad I found your videos I will certainly be watching
Aww thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Fur baby got lots of love and extra scritches this morning 🐾🐶 Hope you enjoy the rest of my videos - there's a few more where Cannelle is really the highlight of the video, but she appears in some form or another in most of my videos!
You are so handy and self sufficient! I love how you've made the shelves more flexible by keeping them open backed, and that iron shelf *chef's kiss* Also I'd love more recycling content!!
So reading this comment, I think it was meant to be on my upcycled sewing table video! Sometimes that happens, if you type the comment and it takes long enough to write that YT rolls you over into another video... I hope you watched the corgi couch one too, though, it's also a winner AND it's more recycling content!!
Oh aye yeah you're right - it absolutely was meant for that video! It doesn't surprise me that I or TH-cam got confused - I was basically bingeing stuff late last night 😅
And yes I absolutely did watch the corgi couch video - and I'm left wondering how you kept your resolve to finish the project when it takes so long?! As well as storing/sorting/edit all the footage, which is a job in of itself?! That's the issue I face with long form content (I'm a musician so sometimes the incubation period for recording both footage AND audio is loooong...
This was fantastic to see the process, the re-use of a lot of different materials, and giving a couch frame a second life with lots of love from a doggo friend, and fit for royalty!
Wowowowowowow. I would be very good money that the green fabric you unearthed has arsenic dye on it. That is an old, old couch. What a good find. I'm glad you were able to give her a second life. Although I personally would have tried to reconstruct the original couch for myself. But I'm sure Canelle needs this more than me. 😂 Edit: The finished product is so cute!! I'm so glad she loves it and it was truly a labor of love and so much labor at that. I love the gold and I'm so glad you were able to reuse the piping.
I did definitely toy with the idea of rehabbing it for myself, but honestly... it wasn't my house, I knew we were leaving the continent in a few months and that I couldn't bring it with me, that I was lacking ALL of the tools to do the job properly (and that I wasn't willing to buy them just for this project, especially when, again, I'd be leaving them behind in a few months), plus I'd have been really lacking fabric, and I thought it was kinda fun to reuse the original fabric on the miniature... so many things went into the final decision, and I 100% don't regret it, because I was able to bring the mini version with me back to Montreal, when the full sized one DEF would have had to stay in Denmark!
Wow what a project!! Very well done. I have two vintage couch/chairs from my boyfriends grandparents which we want to reupholster as soon as they stop smelling like tobacco 🙈 Greetings from Belgium

OMFG that was a major effort and the result was ADORABLY AMAZING
Thank you! She still loves it and uses it to this day (in fact she's on it literally as I type)!
I just love that you and Phil worked together on this project. It turned out so good, no not good AWESOME. She looks like a royal princess sitting or laying. Good job you two. I have been binge watching and I am still not caught up. Love me some good video. Thank you for all the time you put forth to keep us entertained.
Thanks so much! Very glad you're enjoying it all 🥰🥰
Love it love it LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!
This is the ultimate pet domain ever to exist!!!!!
Haha yesss! Thank you
That hay may not be hay/straw, but wood wool! So the couch was very likely an antique.
Yea, when I looked into it a bit further, I think it probably was excelsior/wood wool! And just by the way it was constructed, I think it almost definitely was an antique (but also in pretty crappy condition)!
So I just sat and drooled at that wonderful couch! Beautiful corgi!!!!
Oh thank you!
Canelle looks like she loves her beautiful settee. It is a lovely piece of furniture for your girl.
😊 thank you! She does love it!!
I laughed when you said you had no power tools and I wondered how long it was gonna take you to find one and it looked like it happened fairly soon. Lol
(I’m so impressed by what you can do!)
Woah! The amount of physical strength this took is incredible! Those sofas were made to last!
This is amazing.
I am greatly enjoying the clear play-by-play of your comments XD Glad you enjoyed the video, it's by FAR one of my favorite projects to date (and yes, we did have a couple power tools, but I think only two, and NOT the ones we needed to break that darn couch apart 😭😭
Shannon, Canelle’s fainting couch is adorable❤️👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you!! I love it, she loves it, the viewers love it... its a win/win/win!
Amazing! What a beautiful corgi-size fainting couch!
Thank you, I just love it, and so does Cannelle... one of my favorite projects to-date!!
This is both ridiculous and sublime! I love it, great job Shannon and Phil! I think my dog would literally swoon if presented with such a beautiful custom-made piece of furniture! 10 out if 10!
I would pay good money to see a dog swoon… 😂😂 Glad you enjoyed it so much!!
so cute! don't know which one i like more, this couch or the "western wagon"
Well for me, I definitely feel like the sofa was much more of an achievement in terms of recycling and problem solving abilities, but I won’t judge you if you prefer the wagon, cuz that was a cool one too!!
Omg you are amazing in making things from recycled goods.Canal is a very posh pooch on her throne ❤
Thank you so much 😀
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy every single thing you put out there.
Thanks so much 😊🫶❤️
This is the best, and Cannelle is deserving of a fancy fainting couch, she is so well behaved. You did such a good job putting this together I’ve watched this video three times in case I need to make one for my cat.
Aww I hope they get the couch they deserve!
Rewatching, liking and commenting so TH-cam knows I'm here for all the videos to come! I'm excited for the house!
thank you 🥰🥰
2 years later fairly new sub and doing a little catch up with older vids. The corgi sized fainting coach is superb and well worth the effort.❤️
Thank you!!
I'm just blown away by the creativity and problem solving and PATIENCE that went into this. And the result is gorgeous!
I'm so glad you liked it! It certainly was a challenge, but the kind of challenge that I enjoy, so it was definitely worth it!
That turned out so great!!! Love the antiques gold and the applied embellishments!
Thank you!! This is absolutely one of my favorite projects to-date, we had so much fun doing it!!
I love this little fainting couch! So perfect for a very cute pup!
It really is!! 🐶❤️👑
OH MY GOD THIS IS EVERYTHING
🥺🥺🥺 Thank youuuu! 😘
Thanks so much! She does dearly love it, and uses it all the time!!
Hay stuffing! She must be really old!
I am no expert, but that was kinda what I was thinking too! Kinda crazy!
he's a lucky boy! so sweet!
Thank you! 🐶🦴🐾
Amazing! Not only the finished result, but also the number of different steps and the fact that you didn't give up over all those months. Well done.
Thank you so much!
Какие вы молодцы!!!!!!!! Я в восторге от увиденного!!!!!! Сотворили царское ложе для коржика!!!!!!
🐶🐶🐶
What a genius you are. I love it. I think you could do anything you set your mind to. Both of you did a beautiful job. By the way, I just love your sweet fur baby. God bless.😊❤❤
Thank you! And yes, the fur baby is just the best!!
Shannon! This came out so amazingly, and I love Canelle's reaction to it! Great job!
Thank you so much, such kind words!! I'm glad you liked it
Not me brainstorming how to make one for the rabbits.... I love this walkthrough! Great work
Omg, that’d be absolutely adorable! And much easier on the fabric stash 😝
Beautiful for a beautiful little doggy 👍
Thank you 🥰
You and Phil did a great job.
Thanks! She loves it!
Beautifully executed and filmed 🎥. Thank you for all of the great ideas. Sweet pup.
Thank you 💙💚♥️ I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching! And yes, Cannelle is the sweetest! 🐶👑
I love your corgi and the fainting couch is perfect.
Thank you! She is pretty amazing, totally deserves that couch, and uses it all the time!!
Now I have major needs for my own corgi (although, unlike yours, he probably wouldn't even use it...). It's adorable!
Thank you!! Yes, the best part is that she absolutely uses it (which mildly shocked me, but she IS a princess lol)
Oh to be a corgi with my own little fainting couch!
tis the life 😁😁
You are so handy and self sufficient!
I love how you've made the shelves more flexible by keeping them open backed, and that iron shelf *chef's kiss*
Also I'd love more recycling content!!
I love the way you did the slat sides, so clever!
Thank you! 🙏☺️🥰
Well done. What a beautiful project done with love for your dog.
Thank you very much!
This was fantastic to see the process, the re-use of a lot of different materials, and giving a couch frame a second life with lots of love from a doggo friend, and fit for royalty!
Thanks Kiera! It was a fun project to do, interesting to edit, and I'm glad it was entertaining to watch as well :-D
Edit: The finished product is so cute!!
Adorable couch for your girl. I'm enjoying your vids.
Thank you! 😊
Wow! Love the dedication to hound and creativity. Brava!
Thank you very much!! 🐶🐕
A throne fit for a queen.
Absolutely!
Truly astounding to me. It’s amazing. Great job
Wow, thank you!
this is so adorable! you are so creative and its soo good to see objects getting a new life!
Thank you so much!
Brilliant - you're both multitalented 💛💛💛
Thank you! 😊🔥
Wow what a project!! Very well done. I have two vintage couch/chairs from my boyfriends grandparents which we want to reupholster as soon as they stop smelling like tobacco 🙈
Greetings from Belgium
Oooh, that sounds like a lovely project! Best of luck on the smell (baking soda? vodka? fresh air? time? )
