@@stevezytveld6585 hi Cathy. We’re doing ok. How are you doing? The foot locker sounds amazing! I had a family trunk that I passed down to my daughter. Operation Halloween is still up in the air. What a nice room. I discovered your channel a week ago & been skipping around watching your videos. Started following when you bought your current house, love old house renovations. I enjoy your narrative, very entertaining. TY
@@ShannonMakes - just watched both sewing room make overs and table creation. I'm so hooked on your channel. I would like to know more about your performance work you mention. @@ShannonMakes - I went back and watched all the Christmas vlog videos. All very nice and loved seeing all the "behind the scenes" of your theater group and tours. How wonderful to visit so many great places over the Holidays!
Looks great! I am just rearranging my combined living and working area and I love how your room turned out. I especially liked your way of recreating the shelves, really shows your determination and craftsmanship. Miko sends a friendly woof to Canelle.
Thank you, I'm pretty pleased with it too! It is nice to be at least to the point where the room is useable, even if it's not 100% finalized or done! Cannelle is dozing on her couch, but I'm sure she'll send her regards once she wakes up ;-)
I love your scavenger remake of the birch shelves, that gorgeous purple accent wall and the wine bottle light. And of course your pup in the background. I recently won a new Black and Decker steam iron at Bingo. Priced ironing boards 50.00 to 200.00. Have decided to redo a solid wood chest for sewing storage and make a removable ironing board top. That way I can sit down and iron and use as a cutting surface too. You are inspiring to these old bones. Thanks
Fantastic work, Shannon! In fact, so much so that I sent this video to my BFF who is also moving her sewing room to another room in her house and might find inspiration from your work. Thank you for bringing us along and I'm so looking forward to seeing the build video for cutting table!
Watched your cutting table build and came over to watch this as well. All of my Ikea storage units (bought many years ago) are birch. My favorite was your covering the plain brown pegboard with the wallpaper. Great idea I may just have to copy. I've been wanting an Ikea pegboard but not driving 4 hours to get one. This is a workaround that will look even better. Thank you.
Ohh yes, can HIGHLY recommend the Spoonflower solution. I personally HATE the look of traditional pegboard - I really really dislike all the empty holes, so what I did was I temporarily hung the pegboard when it was uncovered, placed all my pegs on it, lived with it for about a week to make sure I was happy with the placement, and then when I covered the pegboard, I ONLY punched holes in it where I knew I wanted a peg, and that way, there aren't a million holes in it. But that's just me personally - even if you punch every single hole out, it'll still look better than normal pegboard, and far easier than a 4 hour drive to IKEA!
most excellent! love the upgrade you gave your space! honestly, the whole process was my favorite part! i can't wait for my boyfriend and i to buy a house so i can make a permanent craft room happen that's intentionally thought out and planned.
I totally feel that sentiment, I'd love to have something permanent... I will say, don't let renting stop you from making yourself a crafting space/set-up (even if it needs to be much smaller than this)!
@@ShannonMakes I have taken over the master bedroom in our apt with the blessing of my bf...but I can't make any permanent changes to the room itself like built in shelving and stuff like that
Ahhh yes, the built-in shelving is the bane of renters. Fortunately Montreal has laws very much in favor of renters, so I can put whatever I want on the walls, and I'll just fill it when I leave (although I technically don't even have to do that)... but I also know that many other cities don't have such generous laws, and yes... house ownership is ✨the dream✨
I once moved all my things into a studio apartment and it looked just like your room. I just kept moving things around making no progress. It drove me nuts. Finally, I got it all organized, but it was horrible in the beginning. You’re an amazing sport about all of this!!
@@ShannonMakes I found your channel recently and can’t stop watching :-). It’s all so very interesting. You’re the most interesting person on TH-cam that I’ve found. I am amazed at all the things you can do. I was talking to myself wondering - is there anything she can’t do? :-). You remind me of me when I was a teenager; I worked morning into night with my endless projects, sewing, writing, decorating, redoing the wardrobe . . . . This quality in your is so rare these days. I’m not sure why, but I don’t see people having that kind of interest, enthusiasm, creativity - such aliveness. Next to you, most people are just zombies. Anyway, haven’t figured it all out, yet, but I’m sure it will come to me and you’ll hear about it :-)
Wow! I'm very glad you've found my channel so entertaining and interesting! I am definitely no longer a teenager, but I do enjoy keeping myself busy with all my projects, that's for sure! Can't wait to hear about it if you figure it out
Great job! Its a bit daunting to turn a room from one thing to another, I'm still trying to work out how best to turn my spare room into a sewing space that can do double duty, but beds are big! I think I have a plan though! oh and its still Friday night for me so earlier than first thought!
Oof yea, beds are definitely big! Loft it? Murphy bed it? Or maybe a Murphy sewing table? I've seen a couple cute antique-style armoire/wardrobes that have a secret, drop-down sewing table inside them!!
I enjoy watching people do home renovations even though I’m very bad about actually doing anything with my own space 😅. Even with the conceptual idea that I’ll be where I’m at for a few years, my brain is still convinced moving again is imminent and why bother. By the time I summon the motivation it will actually be likely time to move 😂. Anywho, your creativity is inspiring. It makes me wish these walls were up to shelves (alas they are demonstrably not) . But the impetus to turn my room into a sewing room with a bed is strong. Thank you for sharing
Oh, see I'm the opposite, even if I'm somewhere just for a few months, I bring all the things to make it from a house into a home. Command strips and twinkle lights are my best friend!! In lieu of shelves, I can recommend ladder shelves (not the one that are actually just ladders, but the units that are self-standing shelves in decreasing height that only lean up against the wall). We built on in our living room (from recycled wood from the streets, of course, but that part's optional) and it's AMAZING!! And we don't want to put anything into that wall because it's got brick behind it, so this is the perfect solution!
Your plant pot bookend is such a great idea! I imagine the plant pot was designed to be fixed to a wall? I will look out for something similar for myself. The whole room is wonderful, but I was particularly impressed with how you adapted the small shelves to be birch-effect.
Oh thank you!! I actually have 3 different versions of this Pfaff, two 1222s and one 1212, because I love it some much (one of them is for parts because it was super damaged when I got it) 🧵❤️ Thanks for watching!
I am always impressed by your skills at upcycling and crafting from scratch! This sewing space is so aesthetic and practical looking at the same time, and the sewing table is simply gorgeous (the Mucha print on the side!!!). My sewing space is also in my room and I have to get very creative with the little storage and cutting space I have, but it leads to some unexpected solutions. Anyways, great video and I'm heading up to watch the making of the sewing table.
Thank you so much! (and if you like *these* upcycling skills, just wait until you see the table 🤣🪚🗑). If I look around too much at other makers, I definitely feel like I have such a tiny space, but I know that, in reality, I'm so lucky to have an entire room/portion of a room I can dedicate to it!! And agreed on the creative solutions it forces one to find!!

Your sewing spot / crafter’s corner / maker space / happy fun time area - looks FANTASTIC! I love your eye for decorating, too! That is something that I have SO much trouble with…. I’m either completely minimalist (as in NOTHING), or haphazard clutter is everywhere! There *might* be a sweet spot in the middle where things are visually balanced and interesting - but it’s no more than a day long! 😂 And my favorite little surprise was THE PRINCESS BRIDE! I’m such a fangirl that I have owned the paperback (which eventually fell apart), CD soundtrack, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and a replacement hardcover book! 😅 Someday, I have plans to make Westley’s black pirate shirt. The smocking on the sleeves is a detail that grabbed me and won’t let go! 😍 And again, congratulations on your beautiful sewing space! You worked hard at it, and it shows. 😊 - Heather
Thank you for all the kind words! And, umm, I am also a HUGE Princess Bride fan. As a kid, I had recorded the VHS onto audio tape (sort of a DIY audio-book) and I listened to it on repeat over and over, and I now know the entire thing (aurally, anyways) by heart :-D
What a fantastic idea of making your own “audiobook!” LOL!!! I used to record music off the radio onto cassette tapes, but The Princess Bride? BRILLIANT! Had that idea occurred to me, I definitely would have done the same! And also to Monty Python and the Holy Grail! 🤣 And I guess I will be bumping the fabric warehouse video up in my “queue!” See you over there! 😅
So the reason I ended up doing it was because my parents refused to keep renting it from the movie store at the frequency with which I requested it, so I had to take matters into my own hands XD But of course tapes only have 45 mins per side, so 90 mins total, and the Princess Bride is something like 93 mins run time, so in fact I know the entire movie by heart until "They rode to freedom. And as dawn arose...." and then the tape CUT OFF 😢😢 And the reason I know "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" by heart is because my friend and I printed off the script, assigned roles (yes, the whole movie divided between two of us), and memorized it so that we could recite the whole movie between the two of us.... #coolestkidsinschool #Iwasthecoconuts
What a tragic cliffhanger you made for yourself!!! 😂 That AND not having the song Storybook Love?! 😢 And how fortunate you were to have such a friend to reenact MP&tHG!!! The Constitutional Peasant is one of my favorites, but we also can’t forget that the Black Knight always triumphs!!! 😊
thank you!! It adds such a nice warm pop of color to my videos (also, I carried it over from my previous bedroom in another apartment, because I loved it so much there!)
awesome stuff, bless you for being young & energetic lol. when you see the time to be past that & need to do less dragging around lol, yup i'm past that, measure the room with windows& outlets to scal, do the same for your pcs of furniture, play with it until you like the feel of what you have, 1inch per foot is good & easy to follow, one more useful tip for avoiding exhaustion, add castors to furniture and roll with it ha ha
Oooh, yes, my sewing bird! I have a little video all about it - the history and origin of the sewing bird (patented 1853!!) if you want to learn more! 🐦🪡
@@ShannonMakes And it’s so fun to wake up and see my fabric stash and everything because I have antique and vintage China cabinets where my fabric is stored so it’s so beautiful and just makes me really happy! I hope you are having a similarly lovely time with it.
I just finished watching your video on your sewing room makeover, you are very talented, and finding those ikea table top and shelves on the side walk was truely a blessing, and you really knew how to use those power tools, I was really impressed, keep up the good work.
What an amazing job you've done in transforming your room to what you need it to be. I'm in awe of your packing skills - I was stunned at how much you emptied out of that closet! The one thing I liked most in the transformed room (and there's so much to like) was the large container you've got to store your metre ruler in. I currently use a not very nice laundry basket to store mine (plus loom shuttles, reeds, and an inkle loom) in. I need to find something nicer, though I don't think I will choose something that could break simply because I tend to drop my tools in from a height and this would not end well.
Thank you! I think you're talking about that giant green glass jug thing?! That was another street find (all of the miscellaneous jugs/wine bottles I have around here are just collected over the years because they were huge or quirky, etc). I have a large wooden T-square ruler that's a bit too big for that jug, and it's hanging from a nail on the side of the IKEA apothecary desk, so that could be an option. Otherwise maybe frequent your local thrift stores with an eye out for creative (and unbreakable) solutions!!
Love it!!! I'm getting a new studio space soon and I'm chomping at the bit to design the space, but I don't know any dimensions yet 😅 Also! Princess Bride! My favorite book (& movie), even though my copy of the book says "A Hot Fairy Tale" on the front, and I used to tape over that part of the cover in high school 😅
ooh, designing new spaces is always so fun... especially if you can do it without simultaneously living in it! And yes, Princess Bride :-D I had recorded the VHS onto audio tape, a sort of DIY audio-book, and I listened to it on repeat over and over, and I now know the entire thing (aurally, anyways) by heart :-D You must have missed the fabric warehouse/haul video where I mentioned my "Dread Pirate Roberts but make it 1890s" cosplay, because for sure I'd have gotten a comment from you on that one too!!
What a great space! and how ingenious you are! My dream is to have a space for my crafting, which is mainly knitting and sewing was even more important but now I have no space for it at the moment...I really miss it a lot, even as an advanced beginner as I was...congrats!!
Thank you so much! If it's any consolation/encouragement, this is the first time in my life I've had a dedicated crafting area (and even then, it's shared with all the other things in my bedroom including wardrobe, etc)... and the first 2 years of doing TH-cam and crafting, my only sewing/filming space was literally the communal living room, so working time was limited and everything had to be fully cleaned up and put away after every. single. crafting session 😭😭
Probably not the comment you were expecting, but..."Everything hurts and I'm dying" is my life and I need one of those shirts 🤩🤣 What a great idea to hang your paper patterns like that!!! Borrowing that practice post haste.
It's true, I was absolutely NOT expecting that, lol, but I'm glad you enjoy it XD The pattern hooks were purchased off Facebook for a steal, from a costumer for the MTL opera who is downsizing, and besides saving a ton of $$, I also got to meet another cool sewist!!
It turned out beautiful! I'm really curious how you were able to keep the same apartment while being gone so long. Did you continue paying rent the whole time for the apartment as well as for the place you were living in over seas?
Thank you! That's a large part of the reason why we live with roommates - they make it more financially viable to keep an apartment while traveling, plus having someone always there makes sure it stays in good shape (i.e. they would catch a water leak right away, etc)
Dog lies wherever it's quiet and cozy, which generally includes either her custom couch, or our bed (which has it's own dedicated Corgi-sized extension)!! 🤣

Operation Halloween is still up in the air. He’s suddenly very indecisive. He’s at his moms this weekend so I will try and pin him down next week. Also have to try on all his winter stuff!
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 One of my sadder days was accepting that neither me or my sister had the space for my maternal Granny's cedar chest. We even had the key. We had to send her off to another family unfortunately. The War Bride's chest is a stand-in for what could have been...
Hm, the pressure of a costume choice hovers in the air. Where will he land, I wonder. And yeah, the yearly hope that last years snow stuff will fit.
What a nice room. I discovered your channel a week ago & been skipping around watching your videos. Started following when you bought your current house, love old house renovations. I enjoy your narrative, very entertaining. TY
Awesome, welcome aboard!
@@ShannonMakes - just watched both sewing room make overs and table creation. I'm so hooked on your channel. I would like to know more about your performance work you mention. Do you have videos posted showing your performances? I looked through the videos but didn't find any. Thank you.
P.S. love the sewing room and creative table!
You can try my "circus in a corset" video. Also, all of this year's Vlogmas videos have some circus and performing in them!
@@ShannonMakes - I have the corset video marked as next to view. Good to know about the other ones, I will definitely check them out. Thank you very much!
Cannelle is dozing on her couch, but I'm sure she'll send her regards once she wakes up ;-)
Super cute and clever and functional!
Thanks
I love your sewing/ craft room. You really did a good job organizing it. I will continue watching to see what you are sewing.......
Thank you so much!
Inspiring work! Looks so beautiful.
Love the idea of covering pegboard with contact paper. Doesn't that make a difference! 💖💕
Thanks so much! 😊 I love that pegboard now... so much more attractive!
Fantastic work, Shannon! In fact, so much so that I sent this video to my BFF who is also moving her sewing room to another room in her house and might find inspiration from your work. Thank you for bringing us along and I'm so looking forward to seeing the build video for cutting table!
That is awesome, thanks for sharing, I hope she can at least draw some motivation, and possibly even inspiration, that'd be amazing!
I'm inspired to look for ways to improve my sewing/bedroom combo. Love the pegboard and the table is wonderful.
Thank you! The next video, about building the sewing table, is a good one too!
I love your peg board tool cubby! Great ideas! 🤯😍
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video Shannon. love watching you.
I love how it all came together! Great Job
Thank you!! 😊
I just love the idea of a 'dépôt sauvage'. The Mucha poster on the cutting table is a very nice touch.
yea, that's a great phrase!! 🚮🤣 Thank you, I really enjoy his work and thought it'd add a nice pop of color to the table/room :-)
most excellent! love the upgrade you gave your space! honestly, the whole process was my favorite part! i can't wait for my boyfriend and i to buy a house so i can make a permanent craft room happen that's intentionally thought out and planned.
@@ShannonMakes absolutely! We're hoping to buy later this year or early next year! Then the fun begins 😃
I once moved all my things into a studio apartment and it looked just like your room. I just kept moving things around making no progress. It drove me nuts. Finally, I got it all organized, but it was horrible in the beginning. You’re an amazing sport about all of this!!
Yes, moving is always such a crazy and hectic process, even more so when one has limited space!
Can't wait to hear about it if you figure it out
Love the table.
I totally loved watching your room redo!!! ❤🎉🎉You are so clever and talented to remake things, wow!!!! I'm so glad to find your channel.❤
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos, please feel free to explore the channel, there are lots of fun videos here!!
Your plant pot bookend is such a great idea! I imagine the plant pot was designed to be fixed to a wall? I will look out for something similar for myself.
The whole room is wonderful, but I was particularly impressed with how you adapted the small shelves to be birch-effect.
Yes! Thank you!
I love your sewing machine. I have the same model, plus a slightly newer Pfaff. Your remodel is wonderful. Enjoy.
Love your table, oh love it all.
Thanks so much!
Beau travail!Impressionnant talent de bricolage..,
Mes moments favoris : la mise en place de la doublure du panier en tissu motif chouette en portant un haut imprimé chouette et l'athlétique levée du tableau....
awwww, merci!!!
And my favorite little surprise was THE PRINCESS BRIDE! I’m such a fangirl that I have owned the paperback (which eventually fell apart), CD soundtrack, VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and a replacement hardcover book! 😅
Someday, I have plans to make Westley’s black pirate shirt. The smocking on the sleeves is a detail that grabbed me and won’t let go! 😍
And again, congratulations on your beautiful sewing space! You worked hard at it, and it shows. 😊

And I guess I will be bumping the fabric warehouse video up in my “queue!” See you over there! 😅
So the reason I ended up doing it was because my parents refused to keep renting it from the movie store at the frequency with which I requested it, so I had to take matters into my own hands XD
But of course tapes only have 45 mins per side, so 90 mins total, and the Princess Bride is something like 93 mins run time, so in fact I know the entire movie by heart until "They rode to freedom. And as dawn arose...." and then the tape CUT OFF 😢😢
And the reason I know "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" by heart is because my friend and I printed off the script, assigned roles (yes, the whole movie divided between two of us), and memorized it so that we could recite the whole movie between the two of us.... #coolestkidsinschool #Iwasthecoconuts
What a tragic cliffhanger you made for yourself!!! 😂 That AND not having the song Storybook Love?! 😢
And how fortunate you were to have such a friend to reenact MP&tHG!!! The Constitutional Peasant is one of my favorites, but we also can’t forget that the Black Knight always triumphs!!! 😊
Love the purple wall!
Somehow I had missed this video... ? Your workspace looks So Good ! (and very you, too) Congrats !
Aww thank you!!! Yea, the algorithm can be funky sometimes 🥸 glad you found it regardless though!
Wow, it all looks fantastic! My favourite small element has to be that c-clamp! So beautiful 😍
Oooh, yes, my sewing bird! I have a little video all about it - the history and origin of the sewing bird (patented 1853!!) if you want to learn more! 🐦🪡
@@ShannonMakes oh awesome! I'll definitely check it out! Thanks!
I’ve done the same thing! Half my bedroom is bedroom… and the other half is sewing studio!
When you're tight on space, sometimes rooms have to do double duty!!
@@ShannonMakes And it’s so fun to wake up and see my fabric stash and everything because I have antique and vintage China cabinets where my fabric is stored so it’s so beautiful and just makes me really happy! I hope you are having a similarly lovely time with it.
It looks wonderful. Congratulations! :) God bless you.
Thank you!!
I just finished watching your video on your sewing room makeover, you are very talented, and finding those ikea table top and shelves on the side walk was truely a blessing, and you really knew how to use those power tools, I was really impressed, keep up the good work.
Thank you for watching, I'm very glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you'll find my other videos as entertaining or educational!
Oh it looks beautiful! I am amazed how much work you put in it, great job!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it
Fabulous!
Thank you!!
You did a fantastic job, so inspirational. Love your cutting table.
Thank you so much!!
Well done you!
Thank you!! 😊
Love it!!! I'm getting a new studio space soon and I'm chomping at the bit to design the space, but I don't know any dimensions yet 😅
Also! Princess Bride! My favorite book (& movie), even though my copy of the book says "A Hot Fairy Tale" on the front, and I used to tape over that part of the cover in high school 😅
ooh, designing new spaces is always so fun... especially if you can do it without simultaneously living in it! And yes, Princess Bride :-D I had recorded the VHS onto audio tape, a sort of DIY audio-book, and I listened to it on repeat over and over, and I now know the entire thing (aurally, anyways) by heart :-D
You must have missed the fabric warehouse/haul video where I mentioned my "Dread Pirate Roberts but make it 1890s" cosplay, because for sure I'd have gotten a comment from you on that one too!!
This is so inspiring!
Thank you! 🥰
@@ShannonMakes I hear you! Even more power to you! I wish you even more to fully enjoy this space that you created!! 💚
@@bluejay5531 thank youuuu!!
those were some serious dust bunnies, but the room looks fantastic!
oh yea... 3,5 years of dust bunnies is no joke!! My sinuses will probably appreciate the overhaul too XD XD
This transformation is inspiring; I too am looking to transform a room for sewing. Thanks you for sharing your hard work!
You can do it! It'll probably take less time than me, if you don't have the zillion suitcases, and piles of old things to sort through!!
Wow great video!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Probably not the comment you were expecting, but..."Everything hurts and I'm dying" is my life and I need one of those shirts 🤩🤣
What a great idea to hang your paper patterns like that!!!
I see the dog still lies in his favorite space where the bed used to be located🤣.
Dog lies wherever it's quiet and cozy, which generally includes either her custom couch, or our bed (which has it's own dedicated Corgi-sized extension)!! 🤣
It's beautiful! Is it inspiring to wake up in your sewing studio or kind of a loud To Do list that weighs on you?
Well, it's not my job, I don't HAVE to sew, I do it because I like it, and when I'm in the mood for it, so it definitely doesn't weigh on me!
the puple wall
Yes, the purple wall in question!
love it ALL! neat idea for the pegboard! what did you cover it with????
