I have to say I’m a little jealous of the new lathe. I saw this beauty a couple of year ago and have not been able to get it off my mind since. Love what I have but heavier and more power would be very nice. I’m pretty sure you’ll find yourself turning at faster rpm’s pretty soon. BTW, the bowl is lovely. Super job with it.

I too like the waterlox finish, I see you have it in the keep air out bag, mine went off in the can. Try giving the Acks treatment after three or four coats for a fantastic finish

Great looking bowl. I am jealous of the new lathe you received. I have a harbor freight lathe. Is a good one to start turning and learning curve. A question i have about species of wood to turn, is there any wood that if turned is not safe to use for food consumption ? I often wonder if any woood when turned has an adverse reaction or not safe to use other than artistic display. So far i used elm and eucalyptus. I will be using a mask and face shield when i turn.

I have the same lathe. It has lots of power for coring large bowls. If you relocate the control switches to the right out of the danger zone watch out for rubbing up against the speed knob with your leg. It rotates very easily. On mine I wanted to have a proper spindle lock, so I had a wrench made that engages the flats on the spindle from a downward angle (looking at it from right where you normally stand) and the wrench handle hangs down between the bed rails so it can’t go anywhere and I don’t have to hold it.
Well Firstly well done to Steve that’s put you so far in front on brownie points that you could probably retire!! Mrs.B. It looks like a really neat piece of Kit that you are going to have a lot of fun with. Beautiful bowl to start with , great character and stunning finish. Keep safe all. C.

Congrats on the lathe. How's it holding up so far? I have an electrical question. Did you have to install 240v outlets and if you did what size wiring was used? 12/2 with 20amp breaker or 10/2 with 30 amp breaker?
