Steve and Tanya: Thanks for a great video! In my original video I used a traditional 1/16" parting tool. The new "P" type parting tool should be set up with the centerline of the 1/2" blade on the centerline of the lathe. That is the cutting point will be 1/4" above center. That will eliminate virtually all friction and greatly reduce the heat. I recommend not widening the kerf as that can cause a misalignment of the rings during glue up. We all learn as we go and this is an important discovery. I will be releasing an updated video myself covering what we have learned over the first year of its release. Thanks again.

Hi 👋 Tanya and Steve , Great to see and hear from you both, I was not sure if something had happened, I wish you both all the success for the New Year, I actually built my own last year, I saw somebody making one, I used piece of eight mil, thick plate steel, I made a tool post , drilled and tapped a 12 mil hole into the end of it, Then, in the piece of plate steel, I bought a 12 mile hole and countersunk, quite deep, and then I attached two pieces of aluminium angle Metal, So that I could adjust them, I found an old very thick carving knife, and grounded, so it was thicker on the top and thinner on the bottom to give it relief, However, my first attempt at it a bowl from aboard, the piece of wood, I got splitting it and it flew apart, 😂 I have since made another one, but that one I made too thin, I think they’re saying goes third time lucky hopefully, Your jig looks very well-made, I think it is just a combination of practice makes perfect. Getting used to how you had to open the slot up as you machine in., and when I glued my rings up, I left the first one on the truck and use the tail stock to push the next one up against the first one and so on on so on, good luck. Hi 👋, sorry to hear you haven’t been well , hopefully you are feeling a lot better now , my son, who lives in Illinois , the whole of his family over the Christmas period I’d come down with the coronavirus , or a strain of it , they hadn’t realised that they had got it at first , it caused some problems for the rest of their family. Her side , I believe two people had to go to hospital , they have recovered. Luckily , am just in the process of putting the rest of my roof on tomorrow, . Then I have to lay 6squ of concrete, 😮, hopefully have a work shop to work in, as my basement is jammed with machinery, not a lot of room to swing a cat 🐈⬛, not literally, 😂, I’m interested in making a Sam Maloof chair, i’m hoping when I go back to the UK in a few weeks time, to start bringing some more of my timber and tools back with me, I think I have enough and some mahogany as well, to make at least a pair of chairs, time will tell, look forward to seeing your next project next week, stay safe keep up the great work, Phil from the moulin,

I think with some tweets with the tool, it would cut better.
I have the jig and I have made 10 bowls with it. You are correct, it takes some practice.
If you have any tips, I would love to hear them.
One thing I found was not to use soft wood like a soft maple and sapele. I agree with your husband that you don’t want to turn it at too slow a speed.
That is really good to know. I just couldn't get it to cut right at the speed I was going. I know now where I lacked in skill using it. I am very hopeful for the next time.
Did you try the premium brass pin upgrade kit? It replaces the HDPE tool guide. Ron has a video on how to set up the steel pin or upgraded brass pin guides. I bought two of these systems but I have not tried them yet. Nice review!

The parting tool, which in fact acts as a scrapper, will be at or near 90 degrees to the workpiece. Whenever I get myself in such a situation, I'm rewarded with a catch. To get out of that situation, I would go to a traditional parting tool or, I would grind a negative rake on the tool supplied since the bottom part as been designed to reduce the friction against it as you enter deeper into the groove produced.
I have looked at these systems. It looks to me that a parting type tool with a pointed edge would work better. Too much surface area with a flat edge tool. Good video.
I have to agree. If the tip was more narrow and less blunt, I think it would cut so much better as well.
The only thing about this video is I didn’t get to see you. That’s the video.

It great seeing you back again and feeling better! This system seems more complex than making a bowl from regular thick blank wood stock! So far, it seems to be working well ! Interesting to see how well you like the process, after the finished piece!

Hi Tanya and Steve. Thanks for show the video. I bought the easy cut system like yours. At the beguining cut was horrible. Now the cut is perfect, the problem are the rings, I use the templetes like you in the video, but when They are cut it degrees are not the same in esch ring so when I glue them is not so perfect like yours, at the end the variación betwren them is to big and the bowl goes wrong.
I don,t know What can i do because I think I am doing the same as you.

For the width of each ring I use the thickness of the wood.... is this correct?
I used mine for the first time today and got horrific catches with the parting tool. Slow down, sped up, expanded the cut, changed the tool rest height and still catches. I'll keep trying but initially disappointed in the tool.
We had the same issues. I am not giving up either. I can say I am a bit disappointed but mainly with myself for not practicing more.

Can you explain why? Did I have it backward? I had it turned, but it wasn't working as well as it was like this.
