Just ordered the 2022 DS3 from my local Trek shop yesterday. Excited for the bike. Early December though, so for now I have to watch your videos. Thanks!
@@Gerald-iz7mv did you ever figure this out? I’m thinking about switching my 21 ds3 drivetrain over to the 22 drivetrain. (I love my orange frame and don’t want to give it up)
HI PLEASE ADVISE ME.I live in srilanka and our roads are not that smooth,[city ok but byroads not that smooth]I need a bike to travel in the city as well as by roads to go to my gym /evening work out /roam around.what is your suggestion for me?Dual sport 3 2022 or FX sport 5?
Hey there! I think both of those bikes would work well, the FX will be faster for sure but also a little less comfortable on the byroads. The FX 5 is more expensive too so if you lock up your bike outside that may be a concern
I got the 2021 DS 3 factory orange in July and returned in a month and bought 2022 marlin 5 , best decision ever. At first, I’m planning to run 30% gravel and 70% paved road. That’s why I bought DS3 think it will be go faster but it was wrong. I would said DS 3 go the same speed as marlin 5, marlin 5 gear shifting is much smoother than DS and more grid on loose gravel trail
Bought a DS4 the day before this new lineup was announced and absolutely love it, was really interested to see the details you picked out in the video, good stuff, thanks
I'm curious how much of a major difference it will be in terms of riding on steep hills. I have the 2021 DS3 and I'm on the minority on liking the 2×9 drive train, especially when I need to climb a very steep hill. With this new 1×10 drive train. I'm curious how much of a difference it will be in terms of riding on hills and if it requires more effort.
Awesome Video. I bought Dual Sport 2 in Viper Red three days back. Loving the bike. I also bought a 2022 model, however I noticed that my Brakes are Tektro Hydraulic Brakes which I guess are from the last years model, the current models has Shimano Hydraulic brakes on the Trek Website. The pedals, though alloy are not from Wellgo. Rims also just has the Connection Stickers but no Bontrager Branding. Is this normal? Does the components change from location to location?
All the components should be the same as long as they are in the same country. Sometimes components do change between countries. The rims should have the Bontrager stickers though so that’s strange
Well I just picked up my 2022 DS2. I now have a DS2 and a 2022 FX2. These two bikes are perfect for the type of riding I do. I don't race. But the FX is fairly light and and I think it can hold its own against the carbon bikes. I'm not as in shape as the real racers, that's why I like going on long rides. No rush to get to a finish line or shorter time. The DS is perfect for the rougher terrain but does good on roads as opposed to then FX which just flys on roads and ok on rough ground. It doesn't like it but if you go easy on the bumps, it will be ok.. These bikes are a perfect pair to have and really under rated. Obviously they don't have carbon frames and they are 2x gears. But for the money they are great. Maybe one can go to the next level DS/FX 3 or 4 if you want to go 1x gears and carbon components. So kudos to Trek. Will I get better bikes later? Well at my age (69-70) what's the point. If i were younger......maybe.....But these bikes are fine.
I am torn between the 2022 DS2 and 2022 DS3. Both are in stock (not in my favorite colors) at my local dealer. I am not convinced that the 1 x 10 on the DS3 will provide a good riding experience on hills. I use these bikes for camping and do both gravel roads / trails as well as paved. Many of the trails and roads have fairly steep inclines and I find myself in lower gears. Has anyone purchased a DS3 and can comment on how it works on hills & trails? Does it perform well? I know it has upgraded components but is it work the extra $$ over the DS2? Thank you
Big thanks to you. I was lost but this video may have sorted me out. The 2022 DS 2 seems to be best for value for money and overall offering. I looked at giant roam and specialised but my heart seems to like Trek. Any advice welcome if I missed something as newbie here.
You’re welcome! And I agree that bike is definitely a great value; I think you should be totally fine with that if you want to commute / ride light trails or rough roads
Such a great video. If I would upgrade the DS1, 2 with 2x drivetrain to 1x of DS3, should I need to upgrade the Bottom Braket. I cannot find any information about BB of DS3 on their website, so I wonder if the BB Sealed cartridge, 68mm which is used on DS 1 & 2 will be compatible with 1x of DS3. Thanks for your advice!
thanks for a useful video. I rode the Dual sport 3 2022 and it's nice, the only comment I have is that I rode the size L, and being 6ft tall, I felt quite a bit of pressure on my wrists. Not sure why. For comparison, I rode the FX4 2021 (on sale now) and it felt great geometry-wise. The only dilemma I have is that the tires on FX4 are super thin 700x32 and with 100 PSI pressure, I felt every single small bump on the road. Perhaps swapping the tires to 700x38 would make it less rigid? Because I really liked the 1x11 concept of the FX4, it increased my average speed from 18km/hr to 21 km/hr with no effort on my side. Sorry, I am up in Vancouver Canada :-) What's your recommendation? thx.
Glad you liked the video! And if you are talking specifically about the FX 4 Disc, you can swap out the tires for 700x38c as long as you don’t need fenders. That will definitely make the ride more comfortable. Decreasing the tire psi to the lower end of the acceptable range should also help a bit!
Thank you! I really like your presenting style, you're very clear, showing data tables helps me a lot and you just get to the right points, I like it! I was looking exactly for a comparison like this, but also watched other videos (ds vs marlin 2022 comparison), thank you. I just wish you could present other bikes than Trek ones 😁 but I understand that you know them better! I'm unsure which "commuter/trekking" bike to buy, I'd love something like the Trek DS3 2022, or the DS4 2021, but I also feel that leaving a Trek bike (even well locked, kryptonite and all) on the street, even for few daylight hours when I'm working in the office (Torino, Italy), will attract thieves more, and this bikes are not cheap (but worth the money though)... For this reason, as an alternative, I'm considering a similar, cheaper, bike from less attractive brands (eg: decathlon riverside 500 or 900): I know that they're really another league, but they cost a third of a DS3/4 Trek... I really don't know, any advice? 😀 anyway thank you again!
That is difficult. It is annoying that bike theft has to be a consideration when getting a new bike, but I have dealt with that problem before and agree that locking up a Trek bike outside can give you anxiety. If there's any way you can bring it into the building that would be better, but otherwise if you are only using the bike to commute shorter distances I feel like a different lower end bike would be perfectly fine as well. Trek is nice but for commuting most bikes should be okay.
Hi is there a similar bike with a 3x10 groupset? Im not really convinced about 1x10 or 1x11 groupsets in the new Dual Sport bikes... Will Trek Dual Sport 4 2022 be released soon?
I think the DS2 now is a great option (almost similar to 2021 DS3). And I believe now the FX2/FX3 will have the same drivetrain as the DS counterpart. And great video, thank you for sharing! 👍😊
Can you please compare the 2021 DS3 and 2022 DS2, how much closer they are after this upgrade? Feels like DS2 is now a better deal considering the price difference
Price went up since this video. In May 2022, dual sport 1 is now $680, ds2 is $780, and ds3 is 980 (a $200 difference on thr last one, crazy). I got the ds2, as it has lockout suspension. You didn't touch on suspension at all. Also my bike didn't have the Blendr stearing stem for adding lights and gadgets, just a standard. Apparently ds2 is supposed to ha e that but apparently trek can swap out parts that aren't available and still call it a ds2. Thankfully it's a part that doesn't affect performance so I wasn't that upset when I found out.
Hello, i have ds2 2021, but since i damaged dereilleur from fall, i replaced drivetrain with alivio groupset, would that be solid enough upgrade for an hybrid or should I consider putting proper mtb parts like shimano deore for instance Also would you recommend tubeless tyres ?
Hey I'm considering between the DS2 and DS3, the DS2 is 200 USD cheaper. What do you think is the better deal? Is 200 USD extra worth the crankset upgrade? Cheers!
Been wanting a DS3 for some time extra large no bike shops in my area have them or can get them any idea how production is I would be willing to drive to get one? I'm in the US
these bikes are less than 1000USD. Do they have good quality? I prefer to pay more for better quality like the Cannondale Quick CX1 model. However, Trek does not have any dual sport in mid range between 1000-2000USD.
I am considering 2022 DS3, compare to 2021 DS3, which one you recommend in terms performance & reliability for regular long distance, eg, 40 -120km, 4-5 times a week on 90% pavement & 10% trail/gravel? Or any other bike model you recommend? Thanks
2022 model has only 1 gear on front, it is not good for long distances, because maximum speed will be slightly slower than in 2021 model. But 2022 model will be more durable (but i dont think it will be very noticable).
Nice video. Question: I found the DS 3 2021 to buy it, but I was considering the DS 3 2022 as well. But as you already know there is no availability for DS 3 2022. So, What is your opinion? As I am not in a hurry to get a new bike, is the waiting worth it for the 2022? or Just get now the 2021? What you should do if in my shoes?
Would you recommend buying the Dual Sport 2 or 3 (2022)? I am ok spending the extra money, only if it is worth it. I like how the 3 has a nice light weight, what scares me is only having 10 gears - will it be fast enough? The 2 has more gears for a higher speed, but is a little heavier - will that extra .5 lbs weigh you down? What do you feel is the better?
Great stuff, I will be heading to my nearest Trek dealer in Australia. Funny we do not have the DS4. I have not bike riden in like 25 years...I want a good bike to get me back started again. ds3 2022 might be that bike?
IMO, I still think DS3 2021 is best one compared to the 2022, Single drivetrains are good from the maintenance point of view no doubt, but a person who is into single drivetrain should get an MTB, getting a 1x drivetrain in hybrid would not be classified as a hybrid. The 2x/3x gears in the front are very essential while climbing steeps.
@@rachitdongre3465 I completely agree with you but sice there are 4 Hybrids series (DS,FX and Verve and District ) series with marlin also. They had to make some cycle more ergonomic than others, and 1 by drive are good .But I favor DS3 2x9 over 1×10 coz in 1x10 you either get good climb speed or good flat speed.
I agree, but 1x drivetrain is overhyped and already every bikes are adapting this trend somehow, 3x,2x is something perfect for commuters. I would like to compare it in a same way that In a kitchen if you have a big butchers knife it would suffice the need, but we do need and keep small and medium knives for other needs.
I like watching your all videos. I paid for my 2022 DS 2 which is in TREK BLACK colour and eating for its arrival in my nearest trek store in a month or two. I have few questions which I'm sure I can get answers for from you as you are quite experienced in all trek bikes. The trek 2022 DS 2 model has two gears in the front and trek DS 3 has single in front. So which one is good to go with ? As I will ride it on road and pavement or gravel sometimes and also hill roads sometimes. Also, please suggest me which one should I buy among DS 2 and DS3 as there is hardly any difference with the pricing but I want to make the right choice. Im also getting option to buy marlin 5 or 6 of 2022 model so I'm Really confused. I need a comfortable cycle of TREK brand with speed and which can ride in all conditions as I might do self cross-country rides in differs parts of the country and you know how the roads in diffrent places during bike backpacking. Please suggest as you can give me the best suggestion.
I was planning to buy a 2022 Dual Sport 2 from my local shop but, I've heard from a number of people that the supplied fork is low quality and would be better to get a fixed fork like the FX. What has your experience been with the Dual Sport coil forks... any issues?
Hmm I haven’t seen any issues with them personally. They are not high end but I feel like they get the job done and make the bike more comfortable. As long as you’re not abusing them by going on intense trails I feel like it should be good
@@TalalipopMTB But if the bike has a 2×8 it has a front derailleur, how is that easier to maintain than a 3×7? I know a cassette is better than a freewheel, I was just wondering about the maintenance part of what you said.
@@johnhanley9946 Oh understood. In my opinion 3x systems are harder to adjust because of the extra chainring; typically when my coworkers and I build bikes at Trek it takes longer to adjust the 3x systems, mainly due to the lower end components. There's just more issues with the chain not going up to a certain chainring or down one, and on the 2x systems we've noticed there are significantly less issues and they are much easier to setup.
This video is kinda cruel. I want a 2022 Dual Sport 3 or 4 but there is NOTHING available anywhere near me in the Metro Atlanta area. Every Trek store or dealer says it could be 2023 before they are available 😥 There is also no way to do a national search of who has one. Stores say they can't order them but clearly from the comments below that's not true. I would like it if you did a 2022 Verve 3 video.
4 months later but I walked into Atlanta Cycling yesterday and bought a 2022 DS 3 off the floor. They had a couple of DS 2's in the back ready to be built out. Hope you found your bike!
Heyooo!! Great video man! Super informative! I have got a quick question for anyone who has time to answer, I am interested in either a DS3 2021 OR DS3 2022. My main use case is roads and cycle paths and i frequently go rides up steep climbs and descend at high speeds (40 ish mph). I also go on some light trail riding with a few small drop-offs. I am aware that the 2021 variant has a greater selection of gears for climbing, and the 2022 has more modern geometry and features. I just wondering what bike you guys think I should go for. Thanks so much guys if anyone gets round to responding! :)
The 2022 Dual Sports have been released??? While Trek dealers here in Europe are still waiting for the 2021 models to become available. Februari 2022 at the earliest! Where the F do you get your bikes?
Yeah, this.... I wanted a 2021 DS3 but the local TREK flagship shop told me they'd be available in early 2022 at best... And the DS4 pretty much exists only on paper here in Italy, they were never sent even one. Got the DS2 at the end, those became available in mid July...
Just about to retire with numerous decisions like medicare vs medigap and continuous state employee paperwork and if that's not enough I now get my 4 th call from trek dealership about my DS3 I ordered a year ago. Obviously, you would think it was another delay, NO it wasn't, instead it was just 1 more decision I need to make NOW! So this is their offer, got phone call 2 days ago, that orange ds3 is now not coming but we have the new red 2022 ds3 coming in 2 weeks that you can have for the same price as the 2021 u ordered but we now have a 2021 ds3 on the floor because that customer doesn't want it. DO U want it? That's the message left on my phone the day before thanksgiving. So, I now have another decision that i thought i had made, which brought me here. I live in Wi. so I'm not biking for 4 months, 65yrs. old, no more mountain biking (titanium collar bone accident) just trials. WHAT DOES ANYONE THINK I SHOULD LEAN TOWARDS? THANKS
Corrections / Updates to video:
1) The 2021 Dual Sport 4 actually uses the Shimano Deore 1x11 drivetrain, not the 1x12.
2) The official UK prices are as follows:
2022 Dual Sport 1: £550
2022 Dual Sport 2: £650
2022 Dual Sport 3: £800
UK prices for the 2022 lineup are £50 more than the 2021 lineup.

@Aarkadiusz Klepaczka ??
Hi Talalipop, do you know when is the 2022 Dual Sports 3 women ver going to be released?
We are a family with 14 months toddler, we planing by the same model and instal a baby rear bike seat. Do not know is the Thule Yepp can be fitted?
Hi, I am confused between 1X drivetrain vs 2X drivetrain. I have got mixed reviews from fellow cyclists. You please guide
I've yet to find a substantial review on the small models, with the slight bend in the top tube. Does anyone know of one?
What happened to DS4 2022,is it discontinued?
ya looks like they wanted to simplify and removed the DS4. They added a lot more high quality parts to the 2022 DS3 so its almost like a DS3.5
Will there be a 2022 Dual Sport 4? If so, when is the release date?
I don’t believe so, but I’ll make a video if one is released!
I am glad I purchased my 2021 when it came out. The price was $687 at the time. I love having the 24 gears. The 2022 takes you down to 18. Pass
But the main purpose of hybrid is ergonomics rather than high performance. Its made for comfort mostly
@@betujain7378 Well, there are people who look for both comfort + performance
The Hybrid's are considered as a 'do it all bike' afterall.
I would like to compare it in a same way that In a kitchen if you
have a big butchers knife it would suffice the need, but we do need and keep small and medium knives for other needs.
Do you think we do get to see DS4 for 2022?
How about the DS4 2022?
That's my question, too.
Hey there.. when will the 2021 model cease to sell?
Does trek dual sport 1 have a cassette or a freewheel ?
Correction: DS4 2021 uses Deore 5100 1x11 drive train not 1x12.
Thank you! Totally messed that one up but I’ll add a pinned comment right now
Trek now have 2022 FX & Dual Sports models on Trek UK website with prices
I know this isn’t an apples to apples comparison, but would you rather have a Dual Sport 3/ 4 or Marlin 8?
Too bad no more factory orange. They should have kept that color scheme.
what happened to the orange?
Can you review old 2015 model Superfly 5? If possible please make one 👍
Unfortunately I only cover newer bikes unless I own that model. Can’t really get a 2015 superfly anywhere :(
I was planning to buy a 2022 Dual Sport 2 from my local shop but, I've heard from a number of people that the supplied fork is low quality and would be better to get a fixed fork like the FX. What has your experience been with the Dual Sport coil forks... any issues?
Hmm I haven’t seen any issues with them personally. They are not high end but I feel like they get the job done and make the bike more comfortable. As long as you’re not abusing them by going on intense trails I feel like it should be good
Are these hard to find?
How exactly does having one less chainring make less maintenance?
No front derailleur that can come out of adjustment and cause shifting problems
@@TalalipopMTB Ok, that's not really maintenance though...
Nice Reviews!
Thanks!!
Man I was really confused on which colour to buy DS2 in. Thank god they introduced new colours 😍. Gonna leverage trek employee benefits now 😉
Hahaha :D
This came just at the perfect time, I believe they have done away with the DS4.
Thanks for the video
Welcome!!
Did anyone else hear him say “costed” ? - good review!
Yeah I was a little tired and didn’t realize HAHHA but thank you!
Thanks bro 👍
Ofc!
DS3 2021 is the best for steeps and trail riding as well, single drive train is of no use in cities
@@rachitdongre3465 Yeah, my local Tiso store had a trek ds 3 2021 grey in stock, so i bought that. Thanks very much!
@@sand1918 Great, that you found one very hard to get these days, what size you got?
@@rachitdongre3465 Yeah, i was surprised to find one. I got it in a large, i am just over 5'10!
@@sand1918 I have pre-ordered L size in the same colour back in July, waiting to get it in October
nice bike ds sport. i dont like only the crank arm not shimano
@@SonoNessuno Seems the DS2 2021 is the only one that made it over here. Hopefully only for now...
I think all of these bikes would be better with the 2x to me the 1x was a downgrade on the ds3
Broooooooooooooo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you so so much 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ❤️👍🔥❤️👍
Aw of course!!
THANKS
DS 2 2021 is better than 2022
One drive train on front is rubbish. Wouldn't buy because of this.
