Tarkin's biggest fuckup was putting all his faith in the "indestructibility" of the Death Star and not evacuating after he was told there was a small chance of the rebels succeeding.

@@silvervalleystudios2486 without *the Force* the rebels could've *never* succeeded to use the exhaust port to destroy the Death Star. Vader vaguely prophesied it's destruction with the "the power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force" line. Vader was also in the trenches, chasing Luke. Vader was *exactly* at the right spot to foil Luke's upcoming "use the Force" window of opportunity, but Han and Chewie did *maximum damage* to their formation. Not only did Han save Luke by getting Vader to spin away, but he also saved the whole primary objective, because Vader was now preoccupied with random spinning and didn't have enough response time to redirect Luke's 'forced' torpedoes.
Also the rebel HQ (with all the upper management) was at that target planet Death Star tried to destroy. The battle was literally "Death Star vs. the established rebel alliance." Tarkin thought that Vader protects the exhaust port from outside (which he did), but no-one, not us nor the people within the Star Wars galaxy, saw the return of Han and Chewie coming. They showed up at the very last minute and changed the whole history of the galaxy.

If this was the Vader from empire strikes back and the EU, he would of killed those officers, the first for questioning him and the second for failing to destroy the escape pod. I think A New Hope did a decent enough job of establishing Tarkin's importance when he told Vader to release another office. We can derive from that the entire dynamic of their relationship without EU information

I love how when sith powers come into conflict, or more like empire powers, and they both beat each other the thing they get out of it knowing they are both pivotal to the empires conquest instead of one killing the other for thinking they are useless or less powerful. Idk how to word this, i just like the conclusion he said they both came to after their battle. Seems dogmaticallly correct.

I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook for the novel Tarkin by James Luceno. It did a great job developing the backstory and motivations for Wilhuff Tarkin as a character. Additionally, I loved how the audiobook for the novel actually included random sound effects like blaster fire in the relevant scenes. I was quite immersed in the listening experience; it felt more like a well-produced radio drama than a traditional audiobook.

One thing I've never seen anyone mention is how similar Empire officers' uniforms appeared to parallel those of Nazi and SS officers in World War II. I've no doubt Lucas purposely used those uniforms as a plot device to describe the Empire's absolute power and the will to use that power at the merest suggestion. They also spoke to the Empire's corruption and "power at any cost."
