    Nice catamaran, a bit plain perhaps. Newer catamarans tend to have much more comfortable cockpits with built-in seating. I would definitely prefer a Leopard 40 over the Scimitar -- the Leopard has a well-thought out standard lower helm, and a very useful door from the forward end of the salon to the foredeck. One head for six passengers will not work for a lot of people. Thanks for the tour.

    I like what I see with some tweaking would be great for island hopping the Caribbean. It needs a generator, ac, water maker, hardtop with solar. They should add some more cabinets in the galley on the wall it shares with the head. A couple steps and a larger opening window would be good for going from the salon to the bow. Overall I like the design and simplicity of systems. I like the shaft drive and protected running gear. I like Aquila cats for their design but they are v drives and all their gear is hanging down. A you tube channel had a mooring ball break loose with their Aquila and it ended up totaling the boat because of all the damage when it ran aground. I look forward to getting more information about their 1770 model.

    No teak = good. Just blast everything with a gerni.
    That mold under the benches looked a bit iffy.
    Being able to beach it and not sweat about hitting sandbars around Moreton Bay a big plus. And means easy to do your own hull and prop cleaning with haulout costs.
    You could make do as a starter liveaboard, although storage looks pretty ordinary. But not for $1m.

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife

      I think those single berth's would be good for removable storage/wardrobe and a lot of the messy stuff (fishing gear etc) could go out back. With today's boat prices $1M AUD is actually very affordable. I think our dollar just isn't worth what it used to be

    Didn't these come out about two or three decades ago? I went on one once. It was about a 2m following sea and 15knt of wind. It constantly wanted to round up and cavitate. Pleasant and easy were not words that came to mind.

      I guess a following sea especially if it’s short wave period will never be comfortable on a cat. I’ve also been in conditions like this on a Lagoon 380 and we had a similar experience. That taught me a lesson on what sea states to avoid if I wanted to enjoy myself 😅

    Dan, this boat is screaming "Bahamas!" "Southwest Florida!" "Florida Keys!" "Florida East Coast!" Haven't seen the sea trial yet (range, speed, sea kindliness) so don't know how 'Loop' suitable. Why not bring a baker's dozen of these to the FIBS and watch them be gobbled up. Love the simple layout, practical design features. How suitable do you think folks along the Queensland Coast would find this boat?

    • @BoatLife_DansBoatLife

      G'day Jack! I actually had an old brokerage client who bought a used one of these and drove it from NZ back to Australia (1,100NM open ocean). The new owner of Scimitar also bought a used model in PNG and drove it back to SE Qld which is like going from Nova Scotia to Miami. So yes these boats have traditionally been operated by cruising couples in Aus who was reliability due to the remote places they go and inability for outside support.

  • @bigr4655
    @bigr4655 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Comments from a great lakes and Illinois River boater located near Chicago... 1. The bow looks a little odd like it could stick out about an extra foot or two in length allowing less spray which you encountered and room to put additional items like bicycles, kayaks etc. 2.

    • @bigr4655
      @bigr4655 หลายเดือนก่อน

      2. That bathroom was nice but this boat needs two bathrooms. Also the shower being right inside the door means if somebody just takes a shower the next person's walking on a wet floor to get to the toilet. Go get wet feet or track water throughout the boat. That should be reversed with the shower on the gunwale side. 3. You talked a lot about entertaining and I agree the the boat can handle a lot of people, but the base model seems to have absolutely no cabinets sinks storage ice makers extra refrigerators or anything that would work to actually entertain somebody. The cockpit and flybridge could easily have additional cabinetry so you can lay out some food. 4. For sure that cockpit needs some kind of shade even if it's manual. People will get scorched back there. 5. I can't believe you have to go down to the engine compartment to switch the cranking battery off and have to upgrade to the better model to have a relocated to a better place. That is way too bizarre. You mentioned older people and I'm one of them at 60 and overweight I'm not going to be climbing down there constantly. 6. If the weekender is $50,000 less than the Platinum I figured I couldn't make some of those modifications myself, but think the factory should have those as options. 7. Overall I did like the boat tremendously as I like simplistic things and it certainly looks like it's got less things to break the most boats. 8. For the fly bridge, you didn't mention if the bench seating had storage under it I assumed it would but I don't know. I also think access to the bow from the fly bridge would be a great improvement for solo boaters. This is similar to the old Carver Santego.

    • @bigr4655
      @bigr4655 หลายเดือนก่อน

      8. Lastly, it seems like it would need both thrusters at a minimum if the steering wheel is that ineffective. I ain't never drove a catamaran so I don't know but in the windy city we have to contend with lots of wind from the environment and our politicians !!

  • @2thelight
    @2thelight 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Nice looking boat, here is my two cents worth after having looked at a few power cats and sail cats, the interior looks a bit spartan like the big three charter cats, possibly the platinum version has a teak and holly sole and some joinery if that's what you like, (I am now looking at Nordhavn's) I love the transom as it is the most usable I have seen as I would be using part time for deep sea fishing and diving. The 110 yanmars are trawler size? correct? another plus as far as I'm concerned, no need to go fast in retirement!. I would like large fuel tanks, possibly enough range to cross oceans? I don't need or care for the flybridge, prefer solar up there and possibly a davit and dinghy. Three feet draft seems a bit much? some of the competition is half that. (the Bahamas would be my main hangout) Love the head location, away from the beds. Are the hulls symmetrical or asymmetrical? many cat hulls are asymms and this is a rougher ride, the old Glacier Bays had symmetrical hulls that is the one they crossed the pacific ocean with. I would prefer another 8 to 10 feet for LOA? Not having sail drives is a big plus, shafts are problem free.

    Shouldn't this be dry ? If not how is water getting into the engine bay on the bottom of the hull please ?
    As when in forward travelling OR reverse in conditions that water will be splashing against the engine and all other things down there creating electrolysis and deterioration to everything.

      I think this boat is pretty incredible. Practical beyond any other 36 foot cruiser. Simplicity is the name of the game with a single head as many beds as possible plenty of protection, shallow draft, and I’m guessing the option to upgrade it. It may not have all the bells and whistles, but anyone owned a boat for 10 or 15 years can see that that’s would be very easy to maintain, service and eventually replace any of those systemsfor relatively low cost compared to any other fancy production vote. Well done! Send me one! Great cruising in New England in the USA just a little too far to take it on its own!
