Those were the days of our young lives James, thanks for posting this, aww, seeing it really spun me back to those days of the 60’s, unforgettable and truly special days indeed, Burnham seafront at it’s best too! 😁👍
I think the seafront looked better then too. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting this I was born in the 70's grew up in Burnham moved away then came back a few years back. The seafront is nothing like it was an embarrassment now really and the sea you wouldn't want to swim in it at your own peril! Those days certainly seemed much happier and carefree to now Burnham has definitely declined over the years!
I came back last year and was disappointed. I see the town through rose coloured glasses.
I look back with so many fond memories.
Thanks for watching!
Some great memories!
They certainly are for me. Thanks for watching!
@JamesMurphyYT I just found your channel James. Nice one. Lots of memories there. My neighbours (Ray and Jesse Butt) had the donkey concession on the beach. I think I glimpsed Ray in one of the frames. I'd help out with the donkeys during school holidays when I was aged about ten. I don't recall ever getting paid! I also have a lot of cine footage of Burnham, including the 1963 'Big Freeze' with ice bergs on the beach.
By the time we had the arcade in 1965, John Tandy ran the donkeys on the beach and still did when we moved away from Burnham in 1976,
I too spent time walking the donkeys from the summer we moved there and there's film of me doing so in that video - they were very happy times for me.
@@JamesMurphyYT That does make sense. I'm visiting my ma just now and showed her film. She thought that the tall, slim man walking the donkeys might have been Ray. But he may have become seriously ill in the mid-1960s. When we lived on Kingsway Road in the early 1960s I vaguely recall that the donkeys had a paddock near the gas holders. They were happy times. I practically lived on that beach as a boy.
@@wills681 With my Mum and Dad having the big yellow arcade, I spent all of my time there or on the beach.
They were carefree happy days.
Must visit there sometime 😂
It was better in my day! Thanks for watching!
Great stuff! Apart from your family and the Donkey Man I only recognise Peter Durrant leading the donkeys.
That's all the important people sorted Andy.
Steven Durrant
@@martinnewtonholmes I had a feeling I'd got the name wrong... Wasn't there a Brian Durrant too?
Brian Durrant was the younger brother
BTW Are Elizabeth`s Brother ?@@seags234
This is great! What, reel to reel to pull the footage off?
I converted them to DVD 15 years ago but they weren't in order as they'd just been put on as I picked up the reels, but this time I edited them into corresponding groups. I've not seen them for years so it was a lovely experience doing it.
Thanks for watching!
There's no footage of me being thrown out by your mum or me being hit by a car on the road outside. :)
Sorry...sadly I didn't have time to arrange camera duties.
