We married in 1982; we were 28, but not experienced enough. Our second son was born in 1985, (the first in 84), and we have never really 'made' it. Careers and my health have suffered many setbacks. We are still making it somehow. Our boys are doing well, although one has been through a lot.Our grandkids are growing and in and out of our lives; one we have had to help since he was born but he is strong and independent,(except that a tree fell on the townhouse where he was living and is staying here as we speak.)
Families do not share enough stories anymore.

I was 21 when I got married. My eldest son has asperges syndrome so has had his struggles along the way but is doing well in life.
I'm determined that our stories will be there for them and so that when I'm gone perhaps their future children to get to know who their Grandad was.

I have had too many people constantly needing my next moment. "There must be more" has gone through my head, but I have 20/20 hindsight. I have regrets, I have missed opportunities, but I never purposely did things without caring or to do wrong, and I can see that good came out of most of it, because I avoided other people's bad intentions. or lack of caring.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I've made lots of mistakes along the way, but I've never gone out of my way to do anyone wrong, it's just not the way I was brought up.

Very interesting video again. I grew up in a strongly practical minded family. But all my interests had no practical value. I bought a guitar once. That was considered a very stupid thing to do. I had no interest in working with my hands but that was of most value to my brothers and my father. And not chasing after girls was considered a problem with my sanity. At one time I developed an interest in religion. That definitely caused a lot of difficulty. If an interest was not convertible to money it was considered worthless. I switched from a science program to liberal arts. A very threatening thing to do. I've spent a lifetime pursuing impractical goals. I sat in a living room once reading a book and making notes. I was told to get to work. But my life has proved that reading books and writing are my work. Purpose is found in what we end up practicing consistently every day. And that proved to be it.

You're welcome. There's no doubt it can be tough. You have to believe In yourself and your abilities to overcome. Sometimes, even when your don't think you can cope you have to tell yourself that you can. Fake it till you make it.

Ah...people who hold on to things. Sad but really funny to me: I went for a job at a young law firm. I knew computers (as much as there was at the time) and filing and answering the phone (I've always been a hard worker). The lawyer was 34, I was 20 and my sister 14 years older than me, and he was married with children. Good career, too. He really liked my resume and felt I was the right age to stick with firm as they grew. I totally had that job. Then he said, "Just one more look...oh, I see you graduated from Cooley. So did I. Emmett, Emmett...do you have a sister?" "Yes" sinking stomach. "She is very beautiful isn't she?" "Yes. As you can see, she looks like my mother and I look like my father. Very different." (Not really listening) "I asked her out on a date once and she turn me down and the whole school knew by the next morning. Well, if you have heard from us in two weeks, we went with another applicant. Goodbye." Actually, I did unexpectedly, hear from the other woman who worked there: "You didn't get the job and I guess you know why. You were so perfect. The new girl is a total ditz. Nice to have met you, though. Hope you get a BETTER job."

What a sad individual. Holding a grudge and wanting you to pay for it.
I can only think that it was a good thing you didn't get the job as I think he'd have tried to make your life awkward all the time.

You are here due to someone or in fact two peoples short sightedness into what "life" will be.
    Let me explain.
I've never had any children. Why?
Because although I've had a nice life (am well into my 50s) it's been hard work.
People are like sheep. They tend to follow the blue print of life.
Get forced into education, or be "taught" what "they" want you to know, whether any of it is true is another matter, but you have an education.
In fact you have been primed. Your individual thoughts have been suppressed.
"I want a society of workers, not thinkers" as the oh so "generous" J Rockefeller said when questioned quite why he would provide free "education".
In fact he wanted a workforce to make HIM more wealthy.
Once "education" is achieved, you enter the workforce, or work house.
Basically a wage slave. You work and work for years paying your taxes to give to people to spend on stuff you have no choice in
Along the way you are meant to meet someone to continue this charade that is life.
Obtaining a "mortgage" which is essentially a life sentence whereby you give yourself to an organisation that gives you money they don't even have, to secure what is basically a human right of having a roof over your head. These organisations are known as "banks". Similar to government, they enforce you into the slavery that is work.
On you go through "life". Long periods of hard work broken by brief interludes of contentment known as "holidays". A brief taste of how rich people live on a day to be basis.
A week in the sun. A crumb from the rich man's table.
Then, just as you get comfortable. Wallop. Back to work.
    And so it goes on.
Have children that don't appreciate you (unless you have your hand in your pocket). A wife that has probably got bored with you.
And that dream of retiring in the sun that much like a dangling carrot and a donkey seems never to come.
That is the blueprint of life.
I learnt that at a very early age so I didn't follow those rules
So I see my purpose in life is to rebel. Yes I've worked.
But because I haven't been born into vast wealth, I sure as hell wouldn't want to bring anyone into this wretched world to struggle the way you are meant to.
    That's what I think.
And yes i would swap being rich for being poor.
Yes it does not guarantee happiness, but it sure guarantees your miserable times are a lot easier!

    • @JamesMurphyYT
      @JamesMurphyYT  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I've never had a mortgage but finding rent is no different I suppose.
I'm not sure I've followed the normal pattern but I have always done what I wanted to do.
Whenever I've got fed up, I've changed direction.
I'm sure though you're right about having money...I've lost everything twice and it's not much fun.
