  • I’ve got some great DVDs in my collection - many are pretty common, but some aren’t talked about very much. I thought I’d share 10 of my hidden gems with you.
    In the video, you’ll see that some of the DVDs are in plastic sleeves. In one of my earlier videos, I talked about changing cases to sleeves in order to save storage room. You can find out more by clicking the link • Decluttering: solving ...

    I like how you’re talking about DVDs that are hidden gems because I’ve been buying more DVDs lately because the stuff that I’m buying is just not available on Blu-ray or streaming for that matter. DVD still has a purpose. People need to understand that. This is a good video that explains that there is good stuff to hunt down on DVD.

      Thank you. I've got around 800 Dvds, many of which are very common but when I delve into them there's stuff that's not seen too often, which I why I chose the DVDs that I did.

    Throughout my time collecting movies, people have always told me to collect what I love. Somewhat unfortunately, that led me to stick to mainstream hit movies like Jurassic Park, the Godfather, and various comedies that I've enjoyed many times over through the years. I've honestly never heard of any of the movies you mentioned here. I appreciate videos like this, with recommendations that challenge me to go beyond my usual taste. Thank you for that.

    • @JamesMurphyYT
      @JamesMurphyYT  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And what you were told is right. Collecting what you like is the way to go.
      All the films I talked about were things I'd come across.
      The Dish for instance was a film I first saw one time we went to see my sister and my brother in law put it on.
      The French film we bought recently out of a charity shop and were going to give it back if we didn't like it, but we really enjoyed it, so kept it.
      As for The Godfather...superb!

      @@JamesMurphyYT There are generally two lists I keep when it comes to movies. Those I have because I like, and those I have because I respect. I used to go to film school so I have a pretty good sense of what makes a good movie. The movies you mentioned in this video, I must be honest, don't sound like they suit my personal taste, but they do sound like good cinema. I applaud you for branching out in your taste. You never know what you might discover when you try something new. That's how I felt about the Godfather series. I had heard it was good but was reluctant to watch it at first because I didn't think I would like it but then my film teacher showed it in one of my classes and I discovered that it truly was a masterpiece.

    Last year I bought three foreign language films - Il Postino which was sweet, Malena which had stunning photography and music by Ennio Morricone and Indochine which was reminiscent of the old epic films. Got some good suggestions; some I've seen, some I haven't and some I want to. I take it you have a large collection, so what made you choose these, especially? In regards to "My Mother's Castle", do you have "My Father's Glory"? Another spin on Holmes I enjoy is "Young Sherlock Holmes". I loved "Central Station". As far as TV, I miss spending my Sunday evenings with comedian Dave Allen. Do you have any of his programming? In a previous video you mentioned your Sunday movie club. Have you thought of including your subscribers in it? Pick one movie for each Sunday for you and your subscribers to watch then discuss the following week. Movies can be picked by you and chosen from subscribers suggestions. Just a thought. Have a great weekend.

      No, I don't have have my Father's Glory. We only took a chance on the other because it just happened to be in the charity shop. It was just lucky we saw it.
      Of course, now I need to see the other as I didn't know it was part one to the story.
      I have a compilation of Dave Allen's greatest bits (which also came from a charity shop!)
      Can you see a theme emerging?
      I'm not sure how the Sunday Afternoon Film Club would work on YT - It worked on Facebook because people could chat about it on there (not that many did).

    I can watch King of the Mountain over and over and have. I think there is a great moral here in that you know when to quit. Meanwhile, it is about illegally racing cars in The Canyon (in California). Oddly, I am also hooked on Escape from the Bronx (Italian/USA) with a motorcycle gang. Not sure about those in a collection for a woman my age...maybe too much Beach Boys and Jan and Dean in my early years. Another I can watch over and over is Xanadu. So there's a stretch. I have a very odd collection and still buy them as well. I just discovered there were two sequels to Lost Boys and managed to snap them up. But most people know me as a total Cheesy Disaster Films connoisseur and a Christian movie collector.
