Thank you for checking out SUMO PRIME TIME's latest installment "Meeting with the Next Big Thing." It was an honor and pleasure to meet the man who finally captured his first title in Nagoya in July. It was so nice of stablemaster Minato and Ichinojo to invite us to the stable and spend some quality time with them. We're glad you enjoyed taking a peek inside Minato stable. As I said in the show Ichinojo is not sitting on his laurels but working even harder these days to make himself better and stronger so he can meet his higher expectations. He told us that he gained so much confidence by defeating the top dog Terunofuji in Nagoya and hopes to continue his ball rolling. Here comes the next big thing, so keep your eye on the gentle giant from Mongolia because he's ready to make another statement in the fall tourney.

Ichinojo is also the first Mongolian rikishi to come from a nomadic community. All the other Mongolians have been city dwellers.

Thank you very much for allowing us foreigners to get a glimpse inside the world of Sumo! I had a very basic understanding of Sumo before I started finding random videos on the athletes and competitions on TH-cam, and after finding more intimate videos shot in some of the stables and with individual Sumo athletes giving interviews with English subs, I'm finding more and more to love about the sport and its practitioners. It's absolutely fascinating to learn more and more about traditions, the intricacies of technique, and even things like diet and training explanations. So, thank you for giving us this window into your sport, and I can't wait to see more! :)

Sumo is very interesting and exciting to watch. Some bouts are over quickly, others are grind-out victories. You get 15 straight days of sumo fights in a tournament. I am glued to the television every day. You can even listen to the ringside commentary in English! I'm glad to see Ichinojo win his first tournament. But he has to win Ozeki status and rack up a few more tournaments before he can join Teranofuji at the Yokosuna level. He will be Komusubi in the next tournament and will have a tough line-up during the first week. It looks like he is ready to fight. Good luck, Ichinojo!
