    Hello everyone, I'm Hiro Morita and welcome to SUMO PRIME TIME! First, I want to thank each one of you from the bottom of my heart for checking our contents. We also love hearing from you so please keep those comments and suggestions coming! On this episode of SUMO PRIME TIME, we pay a visit to a rikishi who's known as "The Iron Man of Sumo". He's also the winner of the fall tourney in September. Yes, you know who I'm talking about and he is Tamawashi. He's the top division's elder statesman who'll turn 38 in November. That said, nothing seems to slow him down and in fact I think he's getting better and stronger with age. What I wanted to find out this time was the secrets of his toughness and durability, and also how he's able to keep himself in tip-top shape. He overwhelms his opponents with the devastating nodowa stiff arm attack and I wanted to learn some of the keys to successfully unleash his go to weapon. After receiving some tips from Tamawashi, it was time for me to challenge the iron man. Watch Tamawashi and I lock horns in the middle of the ring and see who comes out on top! Arigato always for watching SUMO PRIME TIME and we hope you enjoy the show!!

    For anyone wondering, it sounds like Tamawashi is talking about engaging his lats, mid traps and rhomboids to stabilise his shoulder and arm while pushing, the same principle required to bench press well.

    Had no idea Tamawashi only has 3 training partners! Those younger rikkishi looked so happy too, I love to see it! At least now with the covid restrictions lessened, rikkishi have been able to train at other stables. I hope Tamawashi gets more training partners to strengthen even more. Clearly his 3 training partners at his stable have been enough though!

    • @mrrhombus716
      @mrrhombus716 ปีที่แล้ว +6

  • @Betortitas89
    @Betortitas89 ปีที่แล้ว +4

  • @christofferthorsson607
    @christofferthorsson607 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Tamawashi seems like a very nice and knowledgeable man. His stablemates must be lucky to have him as a training partner. Also respect to Hiro for getting knocked around for demonstrations purposes. Really shows the strength and balance of the rikishi to send people flying without effort, and how impressive it is for their opponents to withstand them.
    As always thanks towards the sumo prime time team for bringing us these interviews and sumo coverage between tournaments.
    But if we're going to see these interviews with every tournament winner I'm hoping Takayasu finally becomes champion in November. Would be interesting to see what techniques he would demonstrate on poor Hiro.

    At 35, the only time I ever feel old is when I'm watching commentary about sumo. ;) I mean I totally get it, doubly so given how young they start and how hard they train every day. Yet still, when I hear them talk about age in sumo I immediately feel motivated to have the most full day ever to make sure I'm not wasting any of my life, haha!

    I know very little about sumo, although thanks to Sumo Prime Time and ChrisSumo that is changing, but it's strange to see someone able to inspire themselves in training despite (from the look of it) being the most experienced or talented in the stable. He must have a lot of discipline and fortitude to compete at such a high level despite not having (again from an uneducated and external perspective) that constant competition and challenge in training.

    Excellent video. Tamawashi is such a cool guy--a gentle giant. He is very thoughtful about his sumo, not to mention creative when it comes to training. No wonder he can fight without significant injury. He seems to be a good teacher also. I wonder if he has plans to become a coach eventually. Hopefully that will be years in the future. I'd love to see him as a top division rikishi into his 40s.
    I would think that with his success, they could recruit a few more rikishi. The ones that are there sure get a bunch of individual attention, though.
    I wish we could have seen him bake or embroider something. He is a multi-talented individual. Maybe someday Sumo Prime Time can give us a peek into the rikishi's personalities and hobbies.

    Such a powerful athelete! When you see a sekitori like him compared to a regular person like Hiro you understand why they are seen as demi-gods.
    Btw. Hiro you seem to be in pretty good shape yourself. Looks like you're working out.

    This was fantastic. My face when Hiro nearly took out that row of expensive looking plants! 😯
