    Konnichiwa and thanks again for tuning in to SUMO PRIME TIME. We truly appreciate your support for the channel and the comments you always send us. Your opinions and suggestions encourage us and motivate us to keep moving forward.
    The winner of the March tournament, Kiribayama, will be gunning for promotion to the second-highest rank of Ozeki in the upcoming contest in May. In this episode, the 27-year-old wrestler from Mongolia reveals his thoughts about the major challenge. He also shows his winning ways which have enabled him to become such a strong and effective combatant. He's such a sweet and amicable person, but once he steps onto the ring he transforms into a relentless fighter and I personally found out myself how tough the man is by going chest-to-chest with him in a serious match. Hope you enjoy the clip and learn more about Kiribayama's good work ethic and future aspirations. Let's all wish him the best. Arigato and see you again soon!

    Lots of humour there, too, but Kiribayama with obvious respect kept it under control. What a lovely young athlete. I hope he gets his timely promotion! Wishing him all the best in the May tournament.

    Yay, I was waiting for this one! My favourite guy. Such great technique and more and more power. And the fact that his nerves didn't falter on the last day of March is also a good sign. He looks ready. Seems like a really nice person too. Go Kiribayama!

    • @Maddolis

      Absolutely, 8 of his 12 wins this last basho (11 not including the fusen) were won using unique techniques - talk about well rounded and technical!

    This one's a keeper. Enjoyed watching Hironoumi vs Kiribayama. Kiribayama beat him with that dazzling smile. I started following sumo in 2019 and unfortunately didn't get to see many of Kakuryu's matches. But I appreciated his spirit. I follow Kiribayama and saw how Kakuryu's mentoring improved his sumo steadily. Kiribayama's first championship will add to the celebration at Kakuryu's retirement ceremony. I hope NHK provides coverage of Kakuryu's ceremony. It was disappointing to us international fans that NHK only showed minimal highlights from Hakuho's retirement.

    Excellent but brief look into Kiti's life and training. He seems really humble about his achievement. I hope to see him progress all the way to the top as I'm sure he would make an excellent Yokozuna. He's a credit to the sport. UK fan support. 👌

  • @dsnodgrass4843
    @dsnodgrass4843 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I never thought of Kiribayama as a "power" rikishi; but more of a "multi-tools" fighter, not unlike Endo or Hoshoryu or the ex-Yokozuna Harumafuji.
    Either way, he's a dangerous man on the dohyo.
    Side Note: Eat more rice, Hiro. 😂

    My predictions to this basho, Terunofuji wins the basho 14-1 , Kiribayama becomes Ozeki, Takakeisho will be demoted to Sekiwake and will return to Ozeki the next basho.

  • @WALSTIB107
    @WALSTIB107 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    That was awesome! We traveled from Chicago to Osaka to watch the March basho. My 8-year-old son got a Kiribayama towel to hold up and said "Kiribayama's gonna win the tournament, just wait and see". He was right! Let's go Kiri! On to ozeki! (now, get the JSA to do pay-per-streams of the bashos and we'll be in business!)

    I was sad for the other rikishi I was rooting for during the previous bashō, but it didn't take long at all for me to not only accept Kiribayama's triumphant victory but also be genuinely happy for him; he's quickly becoming my favorite rikishi of Mongolian decent.

    I thought Kotonowaka would be promoted faster but Kiribayama has been doing great. He kind of look like Harumafuji but with less henka, only needs to consolidate his form and not lose to numbered fighters. Kakuryu has been a great addition since the stable really doesn't provide Kiribayama with much practice.
