  • @2Guys1CarTV

    The old Trailblazer is king.
I have an 04 LT with the 4.2L at 159k which is low miles compared to what most people have on their TBs in 2021. Still runs strong, albeit the thing sounds like a diesel which is one of my favorite quirks about mine. It's very reliable too, never broke down and I have never, ever, once got it stuck in snow. in 2wd it might slip around on the all-seasons but as soon as 4wd kicks in, it hauls ass and doesn't even care about the snow. Love it so much I named it Hank. Hoping to get countless more miles out of this. And from what I hear, I will.
Now, I haven't driven or owned a new TB, obviously. But given they ruined the iconic size, stance, aggressive and determined look in the front, gave it a 3 cylinder, and made it relatively small, I don't think the new TB is something I'd ever want to buy. I like my cars to match my personality and Hank does that very well. Hell I took it down to NY last week, then went to NJ, then back to NH and 1, it barely used as much gas as I thought it would. 2, still runs and drives perfectly fine with no issues or changes. It's surprisingly amazing on gas... The person I followed to NY was terrible at keeping a consistent speed and there was also plenty of traffic, but through the whole trip, I only used about 3 and a half quarters of the tank. I got 20 bucks in while I was in NJ, and had it filled in NH before the trip. it honestly surprised me.
Even right after I bought the thing, I took it to Maine for a long trip. 4 days, we drove all over Maine, more than 15 hours of driving every day. God knows how many miles we did. But it held up strong and took it. Overall, I love the old TB. I don't think I'd expect the same reliability in the new one as there is in the old. But that's how it usually is with vehicles anyways.

2004 Oldsmobile Bravada owner here, bought it last year with 88k miles on it. I'm at 93k miles now. LOVED Olds and I love how smooth the 4.2L I6 is! Definitely a gas guzzler however... Best I've gotten was 21 MPG - which is actually not bad for this SUV lol. My 2018 Jeep Compass is getting 27.8 MPG right now for comparison sake and our Telluride has hit over 30 MPG. I also have a 2008 Saturn Aura 3.5 V6 that I've had for almost 10 years now with 105k miles and still love driving it too. The new Blazer and Trailblazer are trendy, but long live the 90s & 2000s!

Chevy had the Tracker, which was discontinued in 2003 I think. Then there was the S10 Blazer in 2 and 4-door which was discontinued in 2005. The Equinox was available with AWD and was smaller than Trailblazer but was a unibody mall crawler. Frankly, I wouldn't take the old Trailblazer that far into the weeds. And Tahoes got soft with lower front air dams after their 2007 redesign.

The old one can easily go off road and it kept the blazer spirit alive and the new one gets stuck in a puddle

I have the old trailblazer. An 04 ext with the 4.2 actually. They kinda ruined the new one they should have made it an off road-ish SUV and not a crossover

I know that white Trailblazer was available to you but it would have been nice to see comparable trim. My Envoy has Heated leather, power, memory seats. Power Adjustable pedals, rain sensing wipers, etc. I wouldn't trade mine for anything and for 2006 it could have been equipped very well.
    BRING BACK REAR OPENING GLASS!
    Lol.

Honestly I have a 2002 Trailblazer that I LOVE. Been cross country 4 times and it still runs well. I don't feel that the gas mileage is bad. Not sold on the new one. Having a motorcycle engine doesn't seem to me will last. Yes I agree about the instrument cluster

I have a 2006 GMC Envoy SLT with the LL8 Vortec 4200 4.2L i6 and I freaking love because I got from my grandparents and if you want to put it this way mine is the more luxurious version of the Trailblazer. Also I wish GMC could bring back the Envoy because it would be cool

210k on an 08 tb ls. Still runs exactly like it did at 150k even with hard abuse on it. The 4.2 is really reliable, if youre looking for a cheap good suv. The trailblazers are great
Edit: the tow hitch saved me large amounts of body damage from being rear ended. However does not do good at hauling more than a four wheeler on a trailer

When you say three cylinder, I think of the Ford Focus rental with the turbo I3 which I had to suffer with for a few days. A blender with rocks is more preferable than that car.

Nice comparison for OLD vs. NEW. 9:43 One of the nice things about the rear- wiper vs. 4WD switches on the OLD one is that even though the switches are close together, they have unique shape and texture to differentiate and help you do a blind grab and find the right one.

I wish they never stopped making those. The straight six is a awesome motor. The atlas project started with the 4.2. those motors last for a long time, and surprised me when I found out that the block and head used heat treated aluminum. Replace the servo with a Vette servo and getting a tune on the ecm can easily get you to 300 go.

The '06 and up ones had 291HP stock and they make almost 500HP with a turbo at 10 psi. The 4L60E has to go though if you make anything over 350HP and the rear axle needs to be swapped out for the 8.6 from the long wheelbase trucks or the 9.5 from the SS.

I own a blue 2003 Trailblazer LT trim never had any complains with mechanical issues it runs smoothly great the engine sounds real aggressive when you trun it on ,it's an insane powerful vehicle in it's era I wish these old ones are still in manufacture till now, but the 2021 model year ruins the name Trailblazer it's not a real midsize SUV anymore in my opinion it looks like a knockoff car, the face of it looks awful, I wish that General motors could rescue the brand name in a way that it could redesign the whole platform all over again
