As a project manager how you communicate is definitely important. I speak differently between engineers, my fellow PMs, senior management and tradespeople. I am a professional friend maker. It will get you far to have empathy and know how to make people happy.
How would one work on being a better “friend maker”? I’m currently being trained by a senior PM and being “molded” specifically for the company and the one thing I struggle with most is speaking to people and holding conversations.
@cringesh1t427 hey, try creating more meaningful conversations with people. Allow people to speak about their interests, and to do that you need to be an active listener: maybe ask more open ended questions this helps to keep the conversation going
@breatheinbreatheout4363 you don’t have to be extroverted, you just need to be an excellent communicator and good with people. I know really great introverted PMs. And it can be very stressful at times , but it comes in peaks and troughs
This is spot on, from top to bottom. The Project Manager hate is real but usually dies down (for the most part) when they see your value add because the same ones that hated me now come to me for support 😒😩. The panic is real too, even though I tell myself not to panic I still find myself freaking out at times.

Hi 👋🏾 I just landed on your channel but am so glad I did! Great stuff 👌🏾 I recently started my PM journey, so this is exactly what I needed to hear! You just got yourself a top fan 😁 Thanks for sharing!
Hi! I’m a new subscriber and I love your content! Thank you for this video, it is very informative as I’m trying to pivot into the project management field!!
Omggggg this is soooooo helpful!! Im pivoting into a creative project manager role and it’s GREATTTT for me to know dey be talkin ishhh😂😂 I love the emphasis on the how>what in communication too! Thank youuu!
I am taking steps to becoming a project manager and have worked in IT for 18 years and it’s funny to here how much of the unknowns I am already dealing with. Enjoyed your video, very informative on a side of the role you wouldn’t read about in books
This reminds me of health data manager role. You are managing the people who have the data that you need for your deliverables to a clinical trial etc. There are frequent meeting’s and discussions about the process, challenges, strategies and triumphs in the collection of data deliverables.
I am so happy I found your channel! It is like going to college for free. I am planning to finish some coursework and look forward to booking consultation with you one day. Very useful information. Keep up the good work, Pitol!
As an IT project manager, Can you work as a product manager? Can you do a video comparing both in the same work environment? I don’t know if I’m wrong but both roles sound alike except that project ends. What happens when project is finished? Can you elaborate on industries for both projects and product manager? Thank you ❤
Hey lonely , I’ve actually done a video explaining the difference between product and project management a few weeks ago! So defo check that out in the project management playlist ☺️ in short, they are two very different roles lol
Over the years I've worked with some terrible project managers. The biggest issue is thinking that the role of a PM is to have meetings and check status. Managing includes scrutinizing deliverables, removing blockers, making sure that things are always moving forward, figuring out how to adjust the budget when unexpected things come up, preventing scope creep, and communicating with everyone all the time. Communication is the biggest point of failure IMO. Telling people what happened instead of sharing with them how things are going.
This is the nice list of project manager. True reality is drop the word "manager" from your title. You coordinate, expedite, and administrate projects. The core project team is usually made up of you, you, and you. Decision making and direction made by other managers "stakeholders", your assigned resources only listen to direction if their functional manager tells them to, and you are not part of the management team within your organization. PMs are "pooper scoopers" or catch all. Responsibility without authority. After 10 years of performing project management in various industries, I laugh when I hear someone becoming a project manager. It is a great career for people that are easy going and go with the flow. If you are a take charge person that likes to lead, this is a bad career choice.
Thank you for the insight! Based on your 10 years of experience what is a career better off for those that want a leading role with taking charge? If not can you explain what makes project management more towards the flow and not towards deligation?
@flyoverjr6265 if you want to lead and be respected and rewarded for your hard work, operations management is a better option. Maybe IT Project Management is an option if you have a technical background.
I wanted to start a career as PM. I have two questions: Do you think that a new PM with no experience, I’ll be able to work? The reason why I asked is because I heard that companies now won’t employ someone with just a course and no experience Are you able to recommend me a PM course in UK?
1. Some companies still do at a very junior level in pm ( so not as a project manager), but it will be harder. Pm is very competitive these days 2. There are several depending on what type of PM you would like to do. Some are Prince2, agilePM, CAPM, Google project management certificate
I just earned my project management certification and now am afraid I couldn’t do it? I’m coming from an administrative assistant position trying to find a new career path
Hey. There is no straight path for everyone . Ie do a cert and get the job. Anyone that preaches that is a liar lol. But you can defo still get a role within pm, If your able to showcase your skills effectively, sell yourself well, and position yourself
I want to switch career into PM . I have been in the real estate/construction space for over a decade. But it seems it's more about Agile PM now which is more emphasized in the IT. My confusion now is do i stay focus on Construction PM or move to IT PM. Please, need some advice.
I personally think you should stay where your expertise lies, so you can demand a higher salary from earlier. Using an agile methodology over a waterfall methodology will depend on what industry you are in. You can’t use agile in construction so you don’t need to concern yourself with that. And there are plenty of roles in construction which only people with expertise can get, so I personally wouldn’t transition to IT where it is super competitive now for beginners as well as experienced PMs. That’s just my opinion. The choice is yours
@@NouamaneSissabus hey there . It depends on what type of project management you want to do . What country you are in etc. no straight answer: I’ll try to do an updated video on the options soon
