    Just recently learned that 2019+ Mustangs will have a much more difficult time swapping to the Tremec due to the lack of a gear position sensor used for rev-matching, blind spot, back-up cameras, and other things. Perhaps this can be remedied with Forscan tuning? 2018 and older Mustangs are much easier to swap because of this.

    After breaking my mt-82 twice in my 18 mustang I realized it’s just going to keep breaking. Decided to go with this swap and ordered parts yesterday. great informative video!

    The clutch protection logic in the factory tune on the MT-82-d4 is mandatory because of the fragile dual mass flywheel on the 18-20 s550's. Even with the protection in place the flywheels will fail if you use the launch control more than a few times, it starts with an imbalance due to damage to the dmf's internals and gets progressively worse.
    A few thousand dollars in parts, labour and custom tune can get the MT82 working well but if your gonna spend that kind of money you might as well go Tremec.

    • @Karrottop009
      @Karrottop009  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting take, I only used LC the 3 times at the track and ran slower than launching myself. Had no idea the dmf was a failure point as well.

      My 2019 gt (non pp 3:55 car) had its first flywheel replaced after I tried launch control for the first time, dumped the clutch at 3k the car dead hooked and damaged the internals of the dmf, started with mild vibration and got progressively worse over the next 2000 miles until the car felt like it would shake itself apart if revved over 2k.
      Ford replaced it and I took it easy over the winter until last month when I tried my friends dragy, 4k launch with a slight ride of the clutch at the end of the release for mechanical sympathy, did three runs, started shaking that day.
      Car is now at the dealer waiting for new flywheel, clutches are mint, car has 8000miles. The shift rail counterbalance weight mounted on the passenger side of the mt82 fell off as well while I was driving home in normal traffic, had no idea what it was at first but I guess ford added it in 2018 to make shifts feel better saw a forum post of another owner who had his just fall of as well, thing is a larger double headed scythe looking thing made out of cast iron and painted black, weighs around 8 to 10 pounds.
      Rated R cars had issues with his 2018 gt after doing some video's testing the launch control.
      Witnessed a friend have his fail catastrophicly when he sidestepped his clutch at 4k using launch control, flywheel halves came apart completely, his car is currently waiting for a new clutch and flywheel assembly, he is at the Lincoln dealer which told him 6 week back order for parts, ford dealer told me two weeks.
      Another friend with a 2019 pp2 car had his catastrophically fail last summer.
      So on the MT82-D4 the gears seem ok, the synchro's are still nothing special, the ratio's are questionable, the remote shifter still shoddy and the dual mass flywheel is inadequate for this application.

      I do not have the direct experience to answer with certainty, but my gut says the car will still panic about the missing signal. Ford admitted in a recall that a faulty gear position sensor can affect the blind spot monitors and backup camera. When my brother's 2019 sensor went bad, it did just that and threw it into limp mode. Took the dealer a long time to fix it with help from Ford engineering department.

      Correct, 2.66 for boosted cars. Although, I think 2nd gear will still feel stupid short.

    Do you have to tune when doing this swap?

    • @Karrottop009
      @Karrottop009  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was required during my install, perhaps to correct the reverse lockout function. They programmed the car to allow entry to reverse anytime the brake pedal is pressed.

      @@Karrottop009 i just picked up a 2018 with the same swap but tends to do some funny business in first gear the throttle is really sensitive and I find myself In throttle hop when I’m trying to be light through a parking lot but that guy had the car tuned supposedly for the trans but it was also a email tune so don’t know how accurate that was, I think ima just get it dump tuned maybe he just got a shitty tune one another thing this things vibrates a-lot through the shifter in medium to hard acceleration don’t know if the pinion angle is missed up did you have a similar issue or no vibration in your swap? I was thinking a factor could also be the rear diff bushings that deflect so much can cause a change in diff angle thus changing pinion angle enough to make it vibrate since it uses u-joints now and not cv joints?

    • @Karrottop009
      @Karrottop009  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Enrique Rodriguez There was more vibration coming through the car, but it was smooth. Wasn't oscillating from any balance issues. With stock engine, just the Lund Racing 93 tune, mine was very easy to drive. When I had the cobrajet intake, cams, headers, and 4.10's installed, then it got obnoxious to drive lightly. In parking lots or traffic, I would just clutch in and slip it when pulling forward. Wouldn't drive smooth until it was going like 30+.

    I think the coyote paired with a tremec makes the perfect mustang and combo. I had a 2020 GT that I unfortunately wrecked but I was planning on getting a hellcat or possibly another 5.0. I just hated the mt-82. I might end up getting a 15-18 GT and maybe do the tremec swap and go roush or Whipple s/c. How do you like the car since you’ve swapped the trans? Is it worth the money ? Thanks

    • @Karrottop009
      @Karrottop009  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I were to choose between adding power and the trans swap, I'd pick the transmission every time. It behaves so well, even 14k miles later. Can't say it's worth over just buying a ZL1 with a TR6060 though.

      @@Karrottop009 yeah I agree with you. Im just hesitant on getting another 5.0. My 2020 had the bbq and 2k rattle. And I was never a fan of the Camaro. So only other options for me would be a hellcat or possibly a 11-14 gt500.

      Everything was factory. Clutch didn't have any burn spots or other signs of serious wear. Made me think the synchros were going bad too quickly. I've put 13k miles on the Tremec so far and it always shifts.
