    I am continually looking for ways to help folks get into RWD RC drifting - and one the biggest barriers to entry to COST. Folks really don't want to jump in with $1k-$2k setups in a part of the hobby they have never tried before.
    With this in mind, I have picked up the cheapest sensored 10th scale ESC that hobbywing makes - the 10BL60 (amzn.to/3AJSmRp) and the cheapest, adjustable-timing, 10.5T motor on Amazon (amzn.to/3ISj0KP) all to see just how good they are.

We now have the HW 10BL120 G2 with Boost and Turbo for $50 USD and the 10BL60 still brings in the budget end once again w no boost/turbo but with all the great stuff we need to drift. LOL at your reaction at 6:57. My thoughts exactly! Some people have been sleeping on it, but I’m currently running it on 15 degrees timing with a Yokomo D1XT 13.5T motor/22T pinion with 25 degrees and it’s been great so far. Some great information and from my standing some great proof. I always tell people to work on a budget, dont try to get what everyone else has, buy what you think will work. You don't need to have the top of the line, best of the best stuff to go out and have fun.
    I have 2 drifters the first is a Yokomo yd-2e with a Hobbyworks 60a esc and 3600 kv brushless uncensored motor ($150 australian) running with the stock spur gear and an 18t pinion and for me its a comfortable speed with enough power to have a crash with the best of them.
    My second is an MST RMX 2.0 Classic it has only been driven once with some ridiculous radio that has some issues but it has an older Hobbywing 35a esc with a 4000kv uncensored motor (approx $250 about 3 years ago) running a stock spur and a 22t pinion.
    Both of my cars are stock with no upgrades except for the turnbuckle kit for the MST which was needed to add some adjustability to the car, but as is typical of many of the people around me they always say my stuff is crap because its not the best of the best, top of the line, costing hundreds of $$$$ or running every possible upgrade or pretty piece.
    Its not about how much you spend, what your car looks like, what noises it makes its about having FUN and NOT going BROKE while doing it. Yes I would like some extra bits and pieces some new radios maybe a sensored setup for one of my cars but being unemployable, living fortnight to fortnight on unemployment makes it impossible to get them, so I share my theory of budget rc with everyone not through my youtube channel i just cover the action for now but in person when I talk to people. Dont let your hobby break you, play within your budget, buy the best you can afford and dont try to match it with people who have more $$$ than sense.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree!!!!
      Next - I need to really bust this myth(?) on needing a sensored motor. It is certainly needed for timing adjustment + turbo and boost....but the MST RTR can get away without a sensored motor. Wonder if the rest of us can also....

    • @dirtdevilrcmotorsports

      @@RoadsideRC I think they all could if people just geared them properly and if your esc is programmable the change its setup. YES good electronics help but they are not always needed as you have proved here cheap stuff works and can last just as long as expensive stuff.
      I love these sort of videos, they help point me in the right direction but also can make those spending all sorts of money on unnecessary stuff feel a little stupid.

  • @WhiskeyRunnerOne
    @WhiskeyRunnerOne ปีที่แล้ว

    Troy, it might be worth mentioning that this will not work on Sakura D5 or other cars that require CW for forward. When running sensored, the 10BL120 is only meant to be run counter clockwise for forward. There is no way to change CW/CCW in the esc settings. The Sakura requires clockwise for forward. When running sensored the manual for the 10BL120 states that you cannot switch the A,B, and C wires to physically change the direction of the motor. Calibration of the ESC only sets end points. Changing the channel to reverse on the transmitter only limits the max reverse force or in this case, forward force. I would assume this applies to the 10BL60 as well. I hope this is useful for others. If running a Sakura you need an ESC that is capable of switching CW/CCW in the ESC programming.

    My local shop has 2 tracks you can rent out 25$/h with their cars but the shop owner doesn't want young kids to try it out..
    I have to admit that the drifting community seems pretty elitist to me and not very inclusive for what started as a business for kids no?
    Anyways I enjoy your videos and maybe it will be a solution to my budget considerations.. initially saw your recommendation for gyro/ESC/etc and every single piece was the price of a small 1/16 basher it was a bit discouraging.. but that might be a good foot in..

      Hi there Louis,
      Yes - some tracks are very protective. They have been burned too many times by folks tearing the place up...but unfortunately that puts in a barrier for new folks to learn!
      Honestly, the best way to get started with RWD drifting is either the MST or Yokomo RTR cars.
      MST: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=el&merchant_id=4b85b2b7-558e-4304-89fc-54958c8f47f0&website_id=caf4cba5-8e5f-43be-93b7-934f1a36d50d&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amainhobbies.com%2Fmst-rmx-2.0-1-10-2wd-brushless-rtr-drift-car-w-a90rb-body-red-mxs-533822r%2Fp1403117
      Yokomo: www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=el&merchant_id=4b85b2b7-558e-4304-89fc-54958c8f47f0&website_id=caf4cba5-8e5f-43be-93b7-934f1a36d50d&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amainhobbies.com%2Fyokomo-yd2-1-10-2wd-rtr-drift-car-w-supra-body-white-yokdp-yd2rtrw%2Fp1433931
      The MST is better straight out of the box. The Yokomo is better long-term.
      If your son really enjoys drifting, then he has a solid platform to put upgrades onto.
      If your son does not enjoy drifting, then you will be able to re-sale the car for most of the original purchase price (assuming it is in good shape).
      If you have other questions, feel free to ask.
