I got mine over the weekend and I literally can't stop thinking about driving it lol. Wondering if it's just honeymoon phase but maybe not given what you've said!
I agree with the verdict, all you would need to do is put some fancy advertising decals on the type R , and you have a ready-made rally car with a tweak to tyres etc but it really looks the part, something that hot hatches have been missing.
I seriously considered the Civic Type R simply for the gear change and the handling and as an ex-EP3 and Integra Type R owner I knew how special those Type R products can be.
Just to add, i think the engine, whilst not the best sounding is still pretty special in the way it delivers and how it's so keen to hit the rev limiter. Most, if not all competitors are quite wheezy as you reach the upper end of the rev range. I had an M140i and whilst that was creamy smooth, didn't like going past 5k rpm. Still a great engine but it's a treat to rev out an engine like the good ol days of vtec screamers. Otherwise I'm with you 100% on your assessment, including the touch screen.
The gear shift and the way it dances down a road means the car rewards. And it rewards at any speed, you don't need to cane it mercilessly to feel the magic. The back seat passenger space is a literal afterthought. No amenities of any kind, it's like a student dormitory.
I think the Type R is now to big to be a proper hot hatch. Id say it is now more in nudging the old evo segment, just not a awd one. Also i dont think a hot hatch has to be all out rapid. I always think a good example is the golf R is a faster car than the gti, but almost all that drive the two say they would rather own the gti. Its just more fun to drive on the road.
I’m going to have to disagree with your critique of the CTR having “absolute perfection“ ergonomics on the interior. The reason for my disagreement is because the infotainment screen does not face the driver. If the infotainment screen did face the driver, then I would agree with your critique
He said the one thing in the interior he didn't like was the screen, both the functionality and lack of integration with the rest of the interior design, so he wasn't including that in his absolute perfection assessment. He did actually say it would have been better angled towards the driver.
The FL5 is one of the best cars I've owned. An absolute blast to drive. Gearbox is wonderful, seats comfy and comes fully loaded!
Daily driven the FL5 for almost 2 years, the only car i spend alot of time driving nowhere just because of how great it is!

@ni7e no it's common issue, you will want to save mileage but it gets better the more it's driven...enjoy it bro!!!

The looks have really grown on me since launch, and I’m a big fan now!
@@houseofcars1973 This is a future classic due to ice ceasing production in the next 10 years or so great reviews btw..

I will absolutely be buying a 2nd hand Type R in a few years once most of the depreciation has kicked in. Amazing car.

Happy New Year - see you in '25!

I agree with the Golf scenario. I’ve always felt the GTI was the better drive of the two. Much sweeter.

Yes automatic and more bhp . Honda should step up. May be v6 and automatic civic
Hate it when reviewers sit on the cars, would you sit on your own car?
Whoever designed the front of the Cupra needs some new spectacles
I do prefer the older one from when it was the Seat Leon Cupra 280 from about 2014. Always liked that one for its looks.
Honda need automatic and more bhp. Very week
Absolutely not. The gearshift is part of the reason this car is so great, and why would you ever need more power than this delivers?
Imagine wanting an auto transmission in a type R
