The button for the boot is under the right rear light.

Mines in the drivers door panel. At the front of the pocket. I’ve got the formentor v3. But practically the same inside. Crap engine though. It was on just 18 mile when I picked it up. On 119 now and the top end is knocking ,.. crap vw miniature engines. I’ll be putting my R36 back on the road.

What a great review sir, loverly style and pace when you talk.
As others have said the boot release is under the os tail light, this should have been in your press pack!
I also liked your teramar test in Spain, good work buddy!❤

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, and yes, my bad for not realising there was a tailgate release! If you have enjoyed this and the Terramar review, and you are into Cupra, then check out my Born VZ review on AutoEV (where I will also be testing the new Tarascan soon) and next week on here I'll be reviewing the updated Formentor. Bit of a Cupra-fest at the moment!!!

Thank you. I try to review cars that I feel are a bit “forgotten about” and I felt that way about the new Leon. I was invited on the press launch but couldn’t make it, so got one in after for a while. Deeply impressive car to live with and it’s just a great all-rounder.

@ I’ll be getting into a new one next Friday week, estate and diesel (still on sale for Ireland) exiting a VRS Škoda Octavia estate again diesel but I’ll be down in power and hopefully it’ll be somewhat engaging to live with. All the best for 2025 I’ll be watching 👍

The Cupra Leon is a fantastic looking car from any angle, especially the back. I had the previous version about 5 years ago. I’m tempted to get another this year but I always felt 300 bhp was too much power for a front wheel drive car. It’s a shame VW won’t allow Cupra to make a 4WD version of the hatchback, I don’t want an estate.😢

The car caught my eye as I have a manual 2018 Cupra 300 estate. I enjoyed your realistic presentation and found it refreshing that you didn't try to prove that you are Ari Vatanen Jr. by pretending you are as fast a driver. As a Cupra owner I will concede that the upcoming Type R test will likely prove it to be superior, although I just don't like the huge price jump to the new model. The new Type R is a nice looking car and I could never have driven around in the old one which looked ridiculous. Keep up the good work!

I had the 19 leon estate, I think you have a better car than the current model. I personally think that gen peaked, the two that followed it, last one and this incoming one, has a lesser quality feel, and they both feel really big compared to your gen car.
I went and got a born lately and I thought it feels about the same size of my old leon. Though these new cars have too much tech in them. Again I think cars in general peaked around the diesel gate era (one you have).

Car prices seem to mad if late. In 2019 Leon ST Cupra was about 35k. I had an ST FR with 220bhp and that was 28k. That was like the one below the Cupra.
£48k just doesn't sit well with me, especially because I think the quality in the 19 model was a bit better too. Peak seat sterling wheel too in that generation.
I do like the front styling of the new one, but the 2019 car had really nice front and rear lights. Some of the best on the road at that time.
I currently have a born, so also have a sweet spot for these. I've always thought the Leon looks it's best in ST (estate) form.
I do like he back end design language, but I really hate that they are illuminating the badge. I think it looks tacky, I think the carbon boot badge/latch set up, with the light bar above it.

Those are already the Akebono brakes. Brembo comes e.g. in the e-hybrid
And you can open the trunk under the right light

Wonder how second hand values hold up. Bit better than my bargain buy M235i gran coupe purchased for 30k at 8 months old. 😊

That's a good price. I remember when looking for a Leon in 19, the Skoda garage nextdoor had a 30k Octavia estate vRS, ex demo for 18k. It wasn't 6 months old. I went with a leon, but always wished I'd got the vRS.
Only reason what stopped me was it was in that 1 year blip, where they did that hideous face life with four headlights, and it must have flopped hugely as they reversed the facelift very fast indeed.

Interesting and thorough review as always. It is starting to look quite a dated car to me. It comes with 9 colour options, 8 appear to be shades of grey. I know it is popular choice but that is overdoing it. Did you really say it's FWD? That's not on. The obvious rivals are AWD and cheaper. No. I don't want a Golf R. BMW 135, an Audi S3, Mercedes A35. I'll have a more expensive FWD option and spend time explaining what it is. The Golf R is 4k less and AWD. The FWD Cupra has to be substantially cheaper than the Golf.

You drive like me. I can’t stand the flappy paddles on the steering wheel. I like them on the column so they stay where they should be. Nice cars. But need a stronger engine
