      Yes! 😃. And even though your mom didn’t produce, that won’t mean that you will have a problem. ❤️

      I’m sorry that you weren’t feeling well. When we’re not feeling well, we usually don’t nurse or pump as much as usual. If you can get back to pumping or nursing, you’ll see an increase in supply in 3 to 5 days.
      If you feed baby from the breast, the very best thing would be to let baby be on the breast as long as often as possible. If you need to supplement, feed baby from both breast, then the supplement bottle then latch baby again to both breast. Letting baby use you as a human pacifier is the very best way to increase supply.
      If baby doesn’t latch at the breast and you are a pumper, Start pumping on a regular schedule and lots and lots of breast massage before pumping.
      Do you feed baby from the breast?
      How old is baby?
      How do you know your supply is low?

      @@marycahillclc thanks for the response! I do feed him from the breast. He just turned 2 months old. Previously, my let down reflex had so much that it would cause baby to choke and not be able to keep up with the milk. The other side that he was not feeding on would leak. My breasts also felt full when it was time for him to nurse. Every 3 hours. Now, my letdown is the only time he is able to get milk out while latched and I do not leak from the other side. Further, my breasts don't feel full or firm at all like they did before. I'm afraid he is not getting enough because he used to poop all day long but now he only does a couple times a week. But he is still having several wet diapers a day.

      @marycahillclc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BenRebekah what you’re going through is very normal. This is the way it’s supposed to be. As time goes on, your letdown. should be less forceful. Leaking usually stops. Your breasts should start to feel totally flat and empty, like they did before you were even pregnant. Milk is made while you are nursing or pumping. That full feeling that you had before was engorgement. It’s actually a good thing when that engorgement goes away.
      Tell me more about him only getting milk with a letdown.
      Is he having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours?

    What if I am exclusively pumping?

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MetalChica7 when you are an exclusive pumper, it’s important to remember these three keys.
      1 Move milk, out of you.
      2 Move milk often.
      3 Stimulation.
      You must be on a regular pumping schedule and keep that schedule. Very consistent each day. The part that is most often missed for pumping moms is the stimulation. Baby’s mouth on your breast, stimulates your breast, telling your body to make more milk. When baby is not feeding from the breast, you must pump along with lots and lots of breast massage before enduring pumping sessions.
      This video should help. ❤️

    Hi. I’ve had to start giving my daughter top ups of formula as she wasn’t gaining enough weight. I had to do this in her first 2 weeks as she wasn’t latching properly but I exclusively breast fed for 5weeks and then she got weighed and had only put on 5oz 🥲 she was born 6 pounds 5 oz and was 6 pounds 10oz at 7 weeks, plenty of wet and dirty nappies, really happy within herself but as she wasn’t gaining enough weight they said I need to top her up after each feed and I’m not able to pump enough to just top up with breast milk so I have to give her formula now as well. Im pumping after each feed and only get 2ml- maximum of 15ml. I’m topping her up every other feed or so and She gained 7oz in 6 days! I haven’t had her weighed this week yet but she clearly wasn’t getting enough from just breastfeeding. I really don’t like having to give her formula and I’m trying to eat better and I’ve seen a slight increase since trying fenugreek (literally only 2 teaspoons over the course of 2 days) but I’m really stuck as I wish I could exclusively breast feed again or at least be able to pump enough to top her up with breast milk 😩 she’s now 9weeks old any advice? Xx

      @@BelleAmorePizza Sometimes supplementing is necessary. Don’t be hard on yourself about it. You’re doing great! ❤️
      If you haven’t already, I would see a local lactation counselor to do a weighted feed. You can do this at home if you have a scale. An average feeding from the breast is around 2 ounces. It might be higher in the morning (3 or even more ounces). In the evening it will be lower (could be around 1 ounce a feeding. Afternoon and evening milk gets less in volume but it’s higher in fat). Feeding from the breast for an exclusively breastfed baby is an average 24 ounces every 24 hours. This is for babies who are 1 months to 6 months old. Formula fed babies need more in ounces though because it’s not absorbed as well.
      The foods that you eat and even supplements, don’t increase your supply. Fenugreek can even reduce supply for some moms.
      If baby is having 6 or more wet diapers every 24 hours, you know they are getting enough. Though if baby is not gaining well, something is obviously wrong. Supplemental feedings are sometimes necessary. Especially for newborns.
      When baby is having lots of wet diapers but slow weight gain, it is usually a sign that mom has a forceful letdown/ oversupply. I know that may sound crazy because baby isn’t gaining weight but low or high weight gain is one sign. Low weight gain is the most common result of oversupply. Most moms with an oversupply can pump a large amount but there are moms who don’t respond to a pump.
      Is she choking or at least gulping very quickly during a letdown? Is she having tummy issues? Reflux? Green or goopy poops?

    How often for “moving milk often” with a newborn?

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Newborns should eating 8 to 12 times every 24 hours. Some newborns nurse even more than 12 times a day. Thats ok if baby is having enough wet and poopy diapers. Older babies (after 3 months old) might just barely eat 8 times a day as long as they’re having lots of wet diapers (6 or more every 24 hours).
      If you are exclusively pumping, you’ll want to be pumping to get at least 24 ounces every day.
      How old is baby? Are you feeding from the breast, pumping or both?

    Do lactation pills work the same as the cookies?
    What about brewer's yeast? Does it actually help increase supply? I have twins and they feed every hour or less, but the constant stimulation doesn't seem to help increase my supply

    • @marycahillclc
      @marycahillclc  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Over the counter lactation pills are not clinically shown to be effective. Same with lactation cookies, they just don’t work. When moms eat them or take supplements or teas, it’s more of a placebo effect. When moms take these, they nurse or pump more to see if they are working but the pumping is what’s working. Moms that don’t add more nursing or pumping, and just wait for them to work, will further loose supply.
      The moms who say that their supply increased, have a forceful letdown/over supply.
      Brewers yeast can slightly increase how soon your letdown starts at feedings or pumping but it doesn’t actually affect supply.
      Tell me more about your situation.
      How old are babies?
      Are you feeding directly from the breast? Are they receiving formula also?
      How many wet diapers do they have every 24 hours?
      When you pump, how much milk do you get at each pumping session and how much every 24 hours? if so, is this pumping after in between nursing sessions or is it in place of a nursing session?

    • @Betssie

      @@marycahillclc they're six weeks. They're exclusively breastfed. I'd say they each give me at least 8-10 dirty diapers a day.
      I'm not disciplined enough to pump after each feeding, as they already eat too often for me to have enough time -or energy- to pump after every feeding. When I pump, it's when they're sleeping longer than an hour and a half and I feel my breast too full to wait for them to wake up, so I'd say that if I manage to pump about 5 times in a day, I can get about 4-6oz each pumping session

      @@Betssie That sounds like your supply is excellent! 😍. They are having great diaper count, so you know they’re getting enough.
      There is usually no reason to pump if babies are getting enough. You may need to pump a small amount if you’re feeling uncomfortable (like you’re doing).
      I think you are doing an amazing job! Breastfeeding twins is obviously double the work and you are rocking it!❤️
