  • I can't explain how much I love this motorcycle! I've owned many bikes over the years and through my life I decided that the best bike for me will always be the V Max 1200. I use the Cobra slash cut exhaust on a a lot of my bikes and I love the way they make all of my bikes sound and look.

    I have the cobras as well, i drilled 8 holes in the baffles on each pipe, it seems to breathe easier and sounds like a V8 muscle car.

    I have a 1985 dark red metallic Vmax with 11,000 original miles. It is production number 2131 and any Vmax up to 2500 was full power. After 2500 Yamaha was forced to tone them down. The bike looks brand new and I love it. I do the work on it myself and I just installed a 170 rear tire and it looks awesome.

    Hi. Well described and clear. Thank you. I have a 1989 Dark blue metallic Gen1 all original but the mirrors. The original ones become a bit loose w age. Was origninally thinking of keeping her as standard as possible... but the more I ride this and my other bikes... the fiddling w the looks and handling is becoming increasingly...well, interesting ;-) . Seems to me many out there that are buying these Vmax are often coming from the sports segment, thinking these can be ridden in a similar way. Hence the reviews on TH-cam are not so 'glowing'? :-D . She is an old bike w old tech and construction and she has nothing to do w rider safety ...ha ha... you know what I mean... Learning to ride it will take a while and some acceptance of quirks; like want to go straight and leaning into curves is a battle of the wills. Or that using the Vboost will surprise you, so ease into it... and when you do... understand that the whole chassi WILL flex from the force...hence like you have...the frame stabilizers. Looking forward to more content from you. You're doin' great. Wish I had a proper garage like that. Cheers!

      That’s awesome. You know you bring up a good point you’re right. A lot of people come from some sort of sports bike which I’ve noticed but didn’t put the two together. I’ve always written muscle bikes and hated sport bikes which is why I didn’t give it a thought. I had a problem with mirrors on my old bike too it must be a common issue. What other bikes do you ride?

    That sucks - but at least it looked good stranded. In a WEIRD coincidence, I just put short pipes on my son's 883. Its amazing what you figure out - specifically - order of operations! Back to 3rd grade for me...Oh - and love the directions when they say "Remove the old ones, reverse the procedure for the new ones"

    You just contradicted yourself saying the V-Max was designed to be a drag bike but to compete against the Harley since when is a Harley been a drag bike until they brought out the what was it the v rod which coming much later. That being said you have a very nice bike

    • @davesworld2132
      @davesworld2132  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I mentioned it’s subjective because it depends on where you get the information from. You only saw one part of what I said and didn’t actually pay attention to everything I said. There’s also articles explaining that the bike was designed to be a muscle bike because in the 80s drag racing was everything. There’s a lot of other articles explaining how it was a very niche motorcycle that Yamaha didn’t even want to fund. Not everybody with a TH-cam channel is trying to lie. I’m simply stating that the bike has been around for 30+ years and has a lot of history,

    Maybe you should get your facts straight the Vmax was made to compete with the Honda V 65 magna which was produced two years Before the Vmax in 1983

    • @davesworld2132
      @davesworld2132  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s subjective. Depends on where you get your facts from. Claiming I’m wrong and your comment is right publicly doesn’t make you right or my facts wrong. The Vmax originally was made to be a muscle bike for Americans. It’s the reason muscle bikes even exhaust today. It’s literally a drag bike from the factory. Much like the dodge hell cats of today.

    Cobras.... Yikes...and your specs are way off... 145HP for US models with V-Boost for starters 1985-2007 minus about 20HP with Cobras...2008 to 2020 200HP injected...

      I love the cobras. Bike ran like crap with the old exhaust that was on the bike. I could care less about the power at the wheel. Bike runs great. Sounds good. Cobras match the style of the bike. Couldn’t ask for a better exhaust.

      @@davesworld2132 Not 100% sure... I'm focused mainly on performance... Possibly a Kerker system but perhaps one with good performance and dual pipes... I don't know how the stock Cobra system could make more power because it's more restrictive than stock. Sean at Morley's Muscle reports a sharp loss on that system but gains on others... My Cobras are rusted garbage and need replacing, nothing like yours... Enjoy!

    • @davesworld2132

      @@trondyne3513 The problem with white people read about cobras is most of the information dates back over a decade. The Cobra’s design now is a little bit different than it used to be and on top of that it also depends on what jets you have in your carburetors. The average Vmax isn’t a show room vehicle bought new at the dealership anymore. You can gain performance By changing jets and runner sizes as well. The exhaust that was on my motorcycle originally was a hole shot. That exhaust had much larger runners and the bike was very sluggish and had terrible mid range torque. Now with the Vmax exhaust the runners are smaller I might be down on peak horsepower but mid range is up higher. Most people focus on max horsepower but you have to pay attention to the torque curve and how the power gets put down. There’s plenty of engines out there producing less horsepower peak but put down more power down low or in the mid range that makes a vehicle faster than a “more powerful” engine,
