Ive had one for years with only 68 miles on it, then i started taking seizures so haven't ridden since, so its just a 1.1 scale model sitting looking pretty, when you see the vmax in books etc they look so slim but when your on one for the first time you don't realise the size they are, there some width, but i still enjoyed my 68 miles.

I have forward controls on my 2003. At 6ft2 I prefer them. The vmax is just a beast you have to respect. The key danger is that it has way more motor than brakes. Very easy to over cook it into a corner after a straight. V boost is a drug and addictive, have to be careful not to OD lol

I've wanted a vmax since 2005, I had a new cbr that I spent a few $$ on and it was fast for what it was, well, so I thought. I lined up at the lights with a bloke I worked with, he had an old 85 vmax. I figured my late model tuned sports bike would eat it and I laughed at his old cruiser style carb fed bike. When he left the mark on the back wheel fishtailing into my path it scared the shit out of me and I found instant respect for something I never knew. Top end, I'd have smashed him to pieces but I was too scared to pass him, he was beautifully out of control with that insane machine. Eventually I'll have one, I hope.

Have one . It's my second vmax. Compared to some of the bikes these days, it's not considered that fast. The thing is I love it. It's the instant state of mind that I get when I'm on it. From a dead stop, if you can get traction, you can beat bikes with way more horsepower. I modified my suspension to get it to handle. Didn't take much. Fork springs, heavier fork oil , a set of rear smocks. Makes a big difference in the tight curves. Many times said" Coolest bikes ever" . I agree. Takes some finesse and skill to turn but it's fun figuring it out. Enjoy the ride.

I bought my 1993 VMax new in the spring of 1994. It now has 14k miles on it. Pipe, carb work, lowered rear shocks. I did a lot of drag racing in the 90's. I weighed 220 fully geared up. My best 1/8th e.t. was 6.97 seconds at 107 mph. I would trip the 60' timer 90% of the time with the rear tire as I carried the front tire all the way through first gear. The bike is a riot. Idles like a superstock V8. Effortless 1st gear burnouts and powerslides. The downside, like someone commented, the brakes are underwhelming. It's mainly a point and shoot bike. Aggressive cornering will pucker your sphincter. I still ride and occasionally drag race it to this day. I will never part with it.

The year 1985 I was 18 I bought a brand new vmax why because i wanted the hype? I got it. Loved that bike it lived up too it's reputation and then some in the straight away there wasn't a Harley or cruiser bike that could touch it. Eventually I went back to sport bikes but for a few years I had a blast on that bike. Riding cruisers now and enjoying the hell out of my armchair on wheels. Test rode a 2018 vmax a couple of years ago and wow let me tell you it's not for the faint of heart. Good luck with that monster and be safe.

Honestly , never got on it hard in 1st gear , 2nd gear you needed to be pointed in a straight line and leaning forward , cause it would pull the front end up . Riding the bike fast was like going into warp drive , it fools your senses . I think that was my last bike , yes i loved it , but just too dangerous these days .

I always wanted one and I bought one from Ohio about 9 years ago . A 2003 with a UFO 4 into 1 and basically stock . I added the VGAS and modified it. I would have kept the stock system but that's another story. I added a HP ignition and modified the lighting system to LED. I added a lower, stiffer front spring and lowered it in the triple trees about 1/2". I added lowered HD progressive rear springs and changed the rear rim and tire for a UFO 18" rim with 190 back tire. A bad ass hot rod for sure. Handles amazing but its no Diavel. I think the above will help you wheelie but like you said. The bike feels heavy. I say handles amazing with a grain of salt. I am still grabbing my R1 for the twisties, but the look on a lesser rider or a less than 1000cc sport bike, when they can't keep up is priceless. Cranking it is always a head turner also.

    • @ericgarland5080

when you lowered the front end by 1/2 inch, specifically how did that affect or improve the handling?

    • @dreamwizard2000
      @dreamwizard2000 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ericgarland5080 lowering the bike just makes your steering quicker. Think about it like a sport bike like a R1. The wheel is closer to the body making the bike turn quicker. Like a Chopper is far away and turns slower. You have to actually turn the handle bars a little for that design. I also put progressive/stiffer springs in front to lower it a inch more and get rid of the dive issues the older VMax have when braking. You could just put original height stiffer. You can lower it up to 1 inch in the triple trees if wanted. Need to change the shocks in the back IMHO.

Yep. I got my 85 Vmax back in 2001 and I still have it. Just havent ridden it since 2011. Somewhat because it needs some work and I have multiple car projects. But mostly because of how much it intimidates me. It feels faster and scarier than my 600hp 04 GTO. But damn did I remember the ride watching your video!! I may be getting it back on the road soon because of you. Thanks

The guy who bought it was blown away by the condition of it after 10 year's!! My baby!! Show room condition!! I want another like it not a new generation! One day! I hope you find a nice one like I sold. You will not and I repeat NOT be disappointed!! Ride safe but wild!!

I have a 1985, 2000, 2003 Vmax family, total respect for the bike, taken it to 165mph right next to LAX road which is 3 miles long. I smoked a chevy pickup at 110 mph, went thru high speed wobble and back thru it. What a beast!!! It was fast, and decided that I didn't need the speed, but total respect for the machines, I have a 1986 V65 , 500 Shadow, 1983V45 interceptor. Love my bikes and enjoy them, but have always treated them with respect and love working on them. I could never sell them but have been happy because each rides differently. Drove Vmax non-stop from ABQ to Los Angeles, 12 hours 800 miles, it performed and boy was it fun!!! lol

I owned a 1991 v-max. Mr. Max was on the license plate. Because you will respect the v-max. It "is" trying to kill you, at all times. As you state, you need to muscle the bike around and it sucks in the corners. I installed a Hindle competition 4 into 1 pipe and had the carbs jetted. That bike was NEVER beat on the streets. Cops included. 😉 I have never stopped bragging about that bike. I rode it in all weather and every day for over a year. NEVER did I not have a pit in my stomach, when I was about to ride it. The adrenaline rush was insane. I highly recommend buying the aftermarket fork brace. The factory brace allows the front end to shake at about 130mph. Once the beefed up brace was installed, it never shook. At 135mph the bike gets light. With two people on the bike I was able to get it to max the speedometer and hit the stop pin. (est 165mph) Mr. Max, because you show it respect.

I bought the 32nd made, new V Max in ‘85, peddled it for 20yrs. It was quick with only me on it, had no torque (a dog) with a passenger. Acceleration was it’s ONLY virtue. It was overweight, had the worst brakes/hydraulics, virtually no suspension, little aftermarket support, & a notorious high speed wobble for entertainment🙈. I modded it to full race Stage 7 specs (DynoJet/Kerker). It’s styling was quirky. It’s wiring harness was disintegrating badly after 20yrs, I had enough! I bought the new ‘05 Triumph Speed Triple 1050, which I found to be brilliant overall, & still ride & love today since new. I test rode a Zero electric M/C last year, which made me realize ICE bikes are rubbish! When they (Triumph) release their first E M/C next year, the TE-1, it’ll rewrite the attributes of modern motorcycling. The future path is a clear one, non-conformists will become antiquated ones.

I drooled over mine for MONTHS as it sat there on the showroom floor. I got a better job, came into a small amount of extra cash, and put the rest on 3 credit cards because gol-dangit that was the bike for me!! I've loved mine to around 70K over the years. And yeah, had it up to 120mph a couple/few times. You're right, maybe it's not for everyone, and yeah a little cumbersome, that's true. But sometimes you fall in love with something and that's it. :)

Nice Max review. Kerker 4-2-1 complete system is better sounding and not so ridiculously loud. Bought my 93 new in 94 and it was my daily rider for 20 yrs. Still have it with just shy of 200k on it. Very dependable, fun daily rider hot rod. They handled much better than the V-65, Eliminator and Madura. There's a reason the Gen 1 max stayed basically unchanged for 22 years and other muscle bikes fell by the wayside. Hands down one of the most dependable, low maintenance bikes I've ever owned. Much more practical to own than the Gen 2. It's been resting in my basement for 9 yrs. Need to bring it back to life. Good job on the video and review.

They vmax is truly an awesome machine, my 2001 is just standard as I like it that way, with a 15l tank most mods just make it to gas greedy, I like to ride it, having the boost factory set keeps you out the gas station longer, but keeps that xtra in reserve, for keeping the vrodders at bay, lol.
The seat just keeps you planted and ready, always get off mine smiling:))

Nice review, dude!! I sent a link to my brothers in Maine, saying that I couldn't have made a better one. I purchased the exact same color scheme, totally stock, 2006 model, with 14K original miles, about six months ago and am totally digging it. It is a very fun bike to ride. I'm up here at 7,000 feet, so I have lots of open roads and it runs mint. This is not a beginners bike, but a bike for experienced riders who can have fun, but have to know their limitations. Don't fear the hard launch on the gen 1 my brotha, its built for purpose when it comes to running the 1/4 mile. The booty may get squirrely but she will stay under you even with rear tire getting blasted off for 100 ft. I've owned my 85 (with full Dale Walker 4-1 Holeshot Exhaust) for about 15 yrs and she is still the most fun on two wheels when it comes to any cruiser or muscle bike I've ever ridden sans the gen 2. Even then my enjoyment factor is just different, not better.
Looks sexy, sounds nasty, goes like hell, handles like a scalded ape, stops like a boat on water. What's not to love?!
I've flipped every bike I've owned after two or three yrs of ownership. Not my Max....she is staying.
