I can tell you from personal experience you need to be most careful to reinstall the carb securing band clamps the right way, because if you reverse them they will interfere with the throttle return linkage and hold the throttle wide open. You can guess what a surprise that was! I lived through it.
My problem is with the throttle but it sat over 2 years and starts up just need the throttle turned as it is running but maybe it needs to run longer to get everything cleaned out.
Heyman great video, im from northern alberta aswell and just bought a 2000 vmax. i just subsribed, wondering if you could hire you if i get over my head or just have no time to fix myself. Im in the mac, were you at?
Ran seafoam in my gas and now my throttle is responding. I can’t run it all through today but I will do it again tomorrow. I don’t want to bother the neighbors. But I have throttle just want to get the seafoam to work through then my rpm’s will be better
Not the proper way to rebuilt a carburetor. if you have to do what this dude is doing, you should pay a professional. You always, take down completely soak in Carburetor cleaner for a hours or so, depending how dirty it is. The reassemble to factory specks, using the factory service manual.
I'm sorry that you don't know how to clean Vmax carburetors. Actually, better could have been done without ever taking the carbs off than what you did. Then, you had the float open and you never cleaned the pilot jet which is the one smallest orifice in the whole carburetor that gums up very easily. Taking the float cover off and diddling the float is funny nonsense.
W have a big problem with these bikes in the UK, as indeed most carburetted bikes, it's a combination of at least two influences, one being the fact that motorcycling is dying very rapidly here, and the fat old stinky biker types that own these machines don't ride them enough as the fat old stinky UK biker is way too knackered to ride a big heavy machine like these old beasts, the other problem is the amount of ethanol now in our petrol, it causes so many problems because of evaporation and the residues gumming up everything, one set of VMax carbs I had in my shop had the (Non metallic, resin made, very fragile) slides so jammed in the bodies a second hand set was the only way to get around the problem. So fat old stinky UK bikers, USE THEM!
Had my Vmax for 3 months now. A USA. import. The shop (Steel City Classics,) cleaned the carbs before delivering the bike. No problems so far except 2 of the bowl drain screws seem to be leaking.. I'm 69, weigh 66 kilos and shower every day. I have just ran 7 Km. this morning in 43 minutes. Can you do that?
07 vmax here, nice videos & good narration! keep up the good work

My favourite bike, one day I'll get one, I'm actually jealous
After 20 years of looking, I finally found a 1985 Vmax that I could afford. Don't give up the search
