INTP: I know how everyone in the room is feeling, and probably also why they feel that way. I am clueless what to do about it. So, mostly I just do nothing, because I don't know many options, and the options I can think of are all scary and exhausting. I don't like that people can't read my emotions most of the time, but being open about it is a conscious decision that is scary to make because it affects the atmosphere. I can't believe there are people who can see someone being upset and then just approach them and help them without worrying how the upset person will react.
"I can't believe there are people who can see someone being upset and then just approach them and help them without worrying how the upset person will react." I'm an INFP and I struggle with the same thing actually. Maybe it's in a different way? For me many times, I worry if the person wants ME to comfort them. I know it would be the right thing to do, and I'd want to give my emotional support, but I don't necessarily know how, unless I can help them understand their feelings (or someone elses) through words and ease their misery that way. Sure this is different if I know the boundaries, and have experience that I'm "allowed" to be physically close, or if the person would like me to talk about it with me. I very easily give others space, often maybe too much, and some can interpret that as not caring, while it's just that I'm uncertain / scared to initiate.
Same here. And because of it most people misinterpret me. Some even go so far as calling me a snob for it. At times when I think it's bothersome to fix their misconception, I just leave it. However at times, I also tend to explain myself too much it comes off as defensive and backfires on me. In the end, I just resign and retreat back into my own inner cocoon and think about stuff that interest me. People think what they want to think. It's tiring to even bother explaining any more.
This was indeed a very great comment, describing from the perspective of an INTP themselves what was described what Harry talked about. However, I would like to understand one particular thing: Harry attributes this phenomenon to the divergent nature of Fe of INTP. Which is also the case for an INFJ (or ISFJ) So we see the similarity. But what is the difference? Are IxFJs able to overcome this easier than IxTP? Would they be able to socialise, eventually, easier than IxTPs...?
It can be tricky as there is so much individual variation, but INTPs tend to experience a greater amount of Ti certainty and less emotional certainty. They can also detach from their emotions :)
@@CognitivePersonality I am also not sure if I am an intp or an infp, but I always not sure whether I feel things the way other people feel things because I don't really know if I actually care about stuff that I should be caring about. Does that make me an intp?
@@mickeycohen8655 In my experience a lot of the people expressing uncertainty between these types after watching this video have a lot in common with the Ni-activated ISFP :)
@@CognitivePersonality I read about this type of personality and I think it really suits me, but somewhy every personality test I did (I do it alot for fun) always categorised me as either intp or infp
I'm an INTP. I've always viewed my interest in both the arts and sciences as contradictory. It's reassuring to hear they exist within and by eachother--the axis. Thank you!
The Arts and Sciences are very similar though, they both have a methodology that you have to follow and are both very research driven. Even when it comes to music and colour theory and stuff.
as someone who's struggling with whether they're an INFP or an INTP, thank you SO MUCH for this video. with all the stereotypes going around about each type, it's hard for me to see that you can be a logical INFP or an empathetic INTP sometimes with the multitude of misinformation on the internet. honestly, i think that i'm a philosophical, scientific INFP! when i first took some mbti tests, i got 60% feeling and 40% thinking, and the sensitive, caring, overly emotional descriptions of INFP's that i would see sometimes confused me, because i knew i wasn't like that. but now i see-mbti isn't meant to box you in, telling you that you're this or that. it's meant to help you, be provided as a tool for self growth and analyzation, like a rough draft of who you are. you aren't always exactly what your type description may be, and you are still a valid type just because you may have different interests then the stereotypes. thank you, so much, for helping me see this. :)
I'm an INFP and majored in economics. If i went back for my PHD I'd definitely study behavioral economics. Applying logic to create theories about why people do what they do, probably why I am so interested in cognitive functions too lol.
@@dcarze9 if you're interested in cognitive functions, you should try out this site: cognitivetype.com/. It belongs to the Cognitive Type project, run by a guy named Auburn and it represents another interpretation of the type problem. I've been into the system for quite some time already and I think that it's one of the more accurate or down to earth approaches to typology I've encountered. It also has an objective way of typing in the form of a visual codifier, which has the basis of mind-body connection.
I’m an intp female and my close friend is an infp female. On surface level we are both extremely similar and are like two peas in a pod but we have our differences. She’s more academically driven than me due to her parents while still being very disorganised and indecisive. I don’t care about school at all. She’s pretty smart but I find her to have emotional outbursts at times and she will reason with what feels right. She is very naive and innocent while also being quite intelligent at different things. While she says that i know like way too much lmao and how she finds me pretty funny and wise. We are both very bad at socialising but she tends to fake laugh or say awkward things when around strangers while I would just end up shutting myself off. She says she gets burnt out if she’s with the same people/person for too long while I get burnt out by a large number of people instead of being with one person for a long time which i don’t really mind if they’re a good friend. Also it seems like most infps are creative artists but I the intp am a digital artist who’s pretty creatively driven while my friend is more into sports (I once ended up teaching her how to draw and started ranting about all the bad techniques she been taught lolol she sucks at drawing which is fine cause I am awful at sports so it evens out lmao)
This is very often the case - INFPs often gravitate more towards frameworked environments such as academia. It's interesting how the cerebral and limbic can interact & conflict! Heh it does sound like you're describing an INFP here. I've never really understood the 'Feelers are more likely to be artists' thing - there seems to be an equal split between vocation styles, generally speaking.
INTP female here and My infp female friend is like this too. they say they’re bad at socializing but are able to fake enough that people walk away liking them and then people have to pull teeth to get INFPs to hang with them unless of course the infp thinks they are “cool”...
I'm INTP female and my closest friend is a INFP female. I really like her because she listen to me and pay attention when i speak. She's innocent and sweet, she likes to read books and make some poetry.
woahhh. this sounds so MUCH like me (an INTP) and my close friend (INFP). and like you, I'm the one who's more inclined to creative stuff, while she's working in the academic setting
The dichotomy scores tend to sow more confusion than they solve :) INTPs are precise Thinkers whereas INFPs think more plethorically, with far less certainty than the former.
Ok so if you really care of how others feel, yet dont get your own feelings or really dont focus on them you are most likely an intp. INTPs have Fe no Fi. INFPs really focus on how they feel, they do pay attention to other peoples feelings. But make sure there feelings are figured out first. INFPs dont really think their way thru a problem. Rather look at what other people have come up with and use the best idea.
I remember you mentioning that I could be dipping into Fi as an INTP, and after listening and going through it more, I think I can agree with this. Because even though I do have a sense of identity, what I like, dislike, ect, I still treat my actual identity very playfully, and I don't mind playing a role and putting on a mask. The concept of changing up my identity is very, very fun for me, but the idea of abandoning what I find to make sense is honestly frightening and not even an option. Yet I find it hard to defend my emotional AND logical values when under stress, though I can defend my values better in a calm, logical envoirnment where the social atmosphere is more welcoming.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU You literally just confirmed for good that I am INTP not INFP and that is awesome. I needed a pretty in depth explanation like this - the other INTP vs INFP videos just list differences between the feeling and thinking instead of going about explaining how the subject interacts with their functions. Very helpful and awesome
That's true, but would you say society currently has an equal distribution between objective and subjective thought? I personally think it's pretty largely unbalanced favoring the side of subjective thinking. So, many people who are advocating for more emphasis on objective thought aren't doing so because objective thought is inherently better, but because society as a whole is sorely lacking in objective thought relative to the subjective.
Objectivity is the safety fence keeping the subjective people contained. Subjective people can do whatever they want inside the fence, but without the fence you end up with flat earthers and anti-vaxer flinging them selves off the cliff thinking they can fly. Subjectivity is a Jell-o Hammer that looks like a steel hammer, Objectivity is a steel anvil that looks like a Jell-o Anvil. when subjectivity meets Objectivity it looks like Subjective reality will win. Subjectively, there is no difference between Subjective reality and Objective reality, Objectively there is.
Typing yourself is harder than seems. I've discovered MBTI nearly 2 years ago when I was literally doing nothing (like always) but searching for online tests to entertain myself because I was really bored. I did an online MBTI test, though they aren't very reliable, and I got INFP with a 52% feeling and a 48% thinking. I probably must say I was very confused. I always knew I wasn't like most teens of my age (now I am currently 15), I don't have many social skills, and I didn't have any friends, because I never felt attracted to socialize with other kids and i just isolated myself in my own thoughts and feelings. I love investigating and reading, especially medicine, paleontology, geology and languages a lot. I love everything that has anything to do with knowledge, and I can't spend a day without learning something new. By the time, I got sad, so I thought that it was because I had no friends, and in fact, I got criticized by so much classmates and people that didn't even know me, so I forced myself to be someone that I wasn't myself. I've never had social skills because I lived isoloted in my own thoughts, and when I got those new friends, it was really hard to me to pretend to be someone I wasn't. I was getting really stressed due to the amout of people I had to aocialize and stay with. After thinking, I just realized that I can't live forcing myself to be a person I'm not, so I ended up going back to being the person that I am. I think I was even pretending to be a very sensitive and a feeling person, though it is kinda hard for me to control and feel emotions. But despite this, I get really damaged and offended when someone isolates and criticizes me, and i can emotionally support a person if I really love him or her. I am confused, and I can't stop questionating it, like other much things I questionate. Of course, I got INTP in so many ocassions as I did with INFP too. Sorry because of the bad english and the long text, it isn't my first language.
Overall this read's more like an INFP, as you're introspective regarding the 'self' more than I need to force things precisely into a framework. This entire subject becomes much more complicated given the human ability to force ourselves into unnatural identities! Cheers for your comment!
I came here because i to have come up very close to both. about 51% Feeling. its fascinating how close they are, but the differences are there. Im going to keep learning more. I blame this on my sometimes bipolar feeling on situations, as in sometimes i can be cold and calculating, or very feeling and empathetic. depends on others around i think. maybe i feel the room and situation. just guessing here.
I've taken several personality tests and my results are often either INFP or INTP. It comes down to whether I'm a thinker or a feeler and I honestly don't know I sometimes think with my heart and sometimes with my head depending on the situation. Reading their descriptions they both fit me. I think the problems with this sort of test is our own biases because there is the person you are inside and the person you want the world to see and often our answer might reflect either and often question are asked in the context of past experience rather then present values.
The dichotomies are a bit rubbish to be honest - all types are both Thinking and Feeling so you have to dive deeper into the cognitive functions. I have an updated INTP vs INFP comparison I recommend checking out!
Very interesting video man. I do remember questioning whether I really was an INFP a while ago haha, simply because of the way I thought about various philosophical matters etc. It's also very true that I have difficulty in making decisions after seeing many options and how each one could work out XD
I'm an INTP, but I do like poetry, various music and fantasy movies for my entertainment. It made me think that I'm actually not an INTP but probably an INFP, and I was faking all my answer. Yeah I'm very skeptical so I took another test, it still showed me INTP even INTJ until I intentionally simulating the test in order to get INFP 😅. Your video explains my problems, and actually that's exactly what I thought back then. But now I'm sure that I was correct, INTPs can have feeling too! They are not cold psycho mathematicians who always do the weird stuffs. And tbh I'm now studying Law in my University, so?
Exactly! INTPs are often very deep feelers very much driven by an emotional sub-current :) Law is indeed a nice blend of the logical specificity of the type alongside a natural inclination towards social order and justice!
@@CognitivePersonality Right! INTPs are always stereotyped with numbers. Logic basically is everything around us! (But that stereotype is kinda right, I still love to relearn my physics and math lesson from high school lol)
@@maelstrom_13 i dont think so . iman intp. But i hate math and every thing with number. I love music and philosophy more. So i think is different between the intp's
wow 16:00 that's a perfect way to describe what i've experienced as an infp. i know that what i'm conceptualizing abstractly makes sense to me but it takes a lot of effort to relay the thought process to another person you explained something i've considered to be a short-coming of discipline and intellect in a way that completely removes the shame from my thought process
I am an INTP who chose to learn about Humanities (this occurred 4 years ago). At first, I was studying science and technologies and I really liked the logic of it. However, while I was in my second year in an engineering school (whose pedagogy was kind of shit and favored boot-licking) I decided to switch for Humanities. It was something that I did not understand as I found the logic behind it highly subjective and sometimes flawed. When I began my Master's degree (I'm in the second year now), I chose Chinese fantasy novels and fantasy novels which had elements of the Chinese culture. I find it fun because I have to solve a puzzle where I use existing theories and thought process to imagine how the style can be different from classic fantasy. Anyway, I know this was quite a long introduction but I found your video accurate. I am often aware of the emotions of other people and adapt to them in order to be almost invisible. I do also look at how they react to a situation to better know myself (which sounds kind of hearthless when I put it like that) and also how to better adapt to an emotional situation. I often sound strange to my friends (especially when it comes to thing related to death) because I want to know all the parameters as if I was trying to find the answer to an equation. Anyway thanks for the video, I hope I understood it right ~~ ps: sorry if my writing does not sound "English" because most of the time I write the way I think in my native language ^^'
There's a huge emotional and altruistic side to the INTP that often goes overlooked, and, at the end of the day, a symbiosis of objective and subjective logic is necessary for rational conclusion - for this reason even the most Ti-heavy INTP will have a significant Fi-dip. Thanks for your comment :)
SAME. but i read environmental science and went on to litterature studies. like you I think I enjoyed the logical clear right or wrong answer at first (it's just that society loves favouring money so we can't make the right choices for ourselves, we have to compromise) but eventually I got tired of the fact that the progress in the science field felt so slow and also depressing. I needed something less heavy and closer to my nature of being a quite laid back character. Could you relate to that as well? The puzzles and analysis of litterature is great! your fantasy course sounds so cool
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your analysis; it's one of the best videos on this particular topic I've seen, very informative and free of stereotypes. I also like how you included the idea of Ti and Fi functioning together as a continuum (a similar notion has crossed my mind many times). However, I think that that might be the main obstacle in my attempts to type myself correctly. I've already pretty much discerned that I'm an INxP, but I find it difficult to gain a clear overview of the Ti-Fi continuum. I'm always so caught up in my own thoughts, I feel like I'm sometimes losing touch with reality and getting kind of delusional, which makes me constantly doubt my judgement (it's like a loop/spiral). I would compare it to wearing glasses (the dominant function), forgetting you put them on and looking for them everywhere until you start to wonder if you even had glasses in the first place. I hope that makes some sense.
I wonder if anyone has used this video to find out that they are mistyped? I do feel like this video is really good, I like that it completely dispels the myth that Feelers cant use logic and Thinkers are cold and calculating. But because it spends so much time targeting the misinformation, I wonder if there is a level of confirmation bias towards your own type. I feel so validated as that someone finally says that INFP can be drawn to the sciences that I'm not sure if I'm ignoring the things that dont match up like a having a strong sense of self.
My thinking/feeling split is nearly 50/50 and I've always struggled to place myself. It doesn't help that changing just one answer on the MBTI (where I identify with both answers) nudges me 2% in favor one way or the other. However your description here of the conscious/unconscious section has been a very clear distinguisher----I categorize most information symbolically/metaphorically and completely lose access to details of the thought processes that were initially deployed when first integrating the concept into my worldview. (Note that my worldview can also be usurped/modified at any time with introduction of new quality information). In my system all information gets filtered through a rigorous and skeptical analytical system (intentionally, consciously, using logic/rationality, including deep philosophical explorations of hidden assumptions that could be skewing the data). Once anything makes it past those gates and gets the stamp of approval for integration, it becomes much more abstracted-----accessed as "just a knowing." So my home base is definitely INFP. Thank you for this clarification ~
The academic degrees dont exactly make someone logic! For an INTP person, the logic is in our Character, in our actions, in our DNA. We live our lives with logic.
Indeed, not necessarily! Nonetheless, many INFPs make more decisions based upon logic whereas many, many INTPs tend to use logic to rationalise decisions they made based upon their emotions after-the-fact. There is far too much variance between these two types to say one is necessarily more logical than another.
@@CognitivePersonality if intps are uncertain with their feelings according to your theory, why would they make decisions with it. Also, if you are confused as to who is more logical between the intp and the infp, are you also confused as to who is more observant between estps and entps?
Thanks! I was confused as to whether I was one or the other because I seem to employ both systems frequently. I think I may have been an INTP who intentionally developed my feeling function because it was obviously important in success and happiness in life and did promote many returns. It used to be a big difficulty to do so but it has gotten so patterned over the years that now I am not sure which is primary anymore.
As a divergent ENFJ typed by CPT I've had this same issue re developing my Fi-Si. I was typed as having a highly fluid axis of FeTi 50/50 so I can relate to not knowing sometimes whether I'm more thinking or feeling orientated. I'm much more of a thinker in private although I spend a large amount of time alone lmao. I guess it's important to remember that we're holistic beings and utilise both the only difference is the gateways and to what perceiving function the codec is attached 😊
This makes a lot of sense to me. Your way of paring the funktions that are introverted/extroverted and on a f-t, n-s continuum was new and eye opening to me.
Wow this is amazing. I am fascinating with typing and MBTI, but was struggling with how limiting the arrangement of the cognitive functions seemed to be because I feel like I definitely use all of the introverted functions a lot that it's hard to determine which are the strongest. But the way you explained the fluidity and how the functions exist on a continuum that we can dip into makes so much sense! As an INFP, I definitely agree I seem to have the most difficulty with Se, but I use a lot of Ti. Thank you for this video. I really need to get your book.
What a great video. I have wondered this about myself. I have finally come to the conclusion that I am and INTP with some possible higher than average “F” (feeling ) traits. I am extremely ananlytical and logical, yet I do feel emotions deeply. What helped to me to realzie I lean more towards INTP is that my experience of those emotions is analytical. I have to analyze where they are coming from and what chain of events led to this , etc. I almost even have to come up with logical reasons why I”m feeling what I’m feeling almost as if to justify it.
Thanks for the video and thanks for breaking many stereotypes about INFPs. As an INFP myself, I agree with everything you said, now I just have to figure out if my boyfriend is an INFP (as I always thought) or an INTP! Very, very challenging...
I think I'm an INTP, but I seem more like an INFP because I dont really have an interest in mathematics, computer science or science, instead, I am drawn to art and philosophy. I have taken the test many times and the results I get are always one of the two. I am usually able to tell how people are feeling and why, without them saying anything, I just dont do anything about this, either because I dont want to deal with it, or because I dont know what I would do. I also often come across as inconsiderate because of this. So I think I am an INTP with a high EQ, which is why I often get INFP.
I'm an INFP and I took the test about two years ago. After I read the whole description, it felt like I opened a new dimension lol it was kinda spot on. I'm really introverted but I like going out and exploring places by myself or with people I'm close with. I work better alone and get exhausted if I'm under a strict hierarchy or orders or rules. I daydream a lot and have a huge imagination. Ahh it's true, I am indecisive in some aspects. Also I'm very empathetic and can sometimes even feel physical pain if I see someone else hurt.
Great video! I really love this breakdown of the continuums and completely agree with this. The attitudes are the only thing that become somewhat fixed. I’ve often called function 8 the “ghost” function bc of this continuum. Bc everyone expresses more of the 8th than maybe they care for, but you can’t have one without the other.
Cheers, Eryn, I'm still looking forward to reading your system and am intending to find some time tonight! Completely agree that you can't seperate one side of a continuum from another - they are always interacting and the attitudes is the major way of telling what role each side tends to play within the mind :)
No worries! I’m just here to be a fan of your awesome content! At this point it’s clear to me that your system is completely in line with how I think of type, and I think you’re just going to find my way to be similar but with frilly language haha! Still going to buy your book!
also for intps there is Ti-Si loop of death were intp are just going trough life not acoplshing anything and it's defficoult to them to break out of this....
Thank you very much for the explanations, i've been learning a lot about types with your channel and its great to finally find some not stereotyped definitions. However i'm still unsure about my type. I strongly believe i lead with Ne and some introverted judging function, but it still difficult. I would say INFP, but while i may be extremely sensible to some issues, i can be very calm and indifferente toward some other situations. I've been accused to be cold, bossy and unexpressive, ehich many times makes me doubt rather if a use Fi-Te or Ti-Fe. Having one type the feeling function at the end, and the other at the first place makes it all most tricky. I'lle keep learning. Thanks!
I was a young teenager who was very fond of reading up a lot of good smart habits to pick up and moral ways to deals with life and the people around me because I don't trust myself coming up with these sort of things. And then I stumble across this MBTI test which I learned could help to understand myself better and improve my habits sounded promising. My result was in between ISFP and INFP and stick to INFP bc it felt more accurate. Growing up, I discovered a religion that was very logical and realistic to me in terms of morals and ethics so now I stuck to those sets of moral. I found myself having an interest in using art as a communication tool and finding myself having fun just learning new technical skills and languages and now being a multimedia artist. My friends told me their impression of me is that I seemed very innocent and sweet at first but in actuality, I'm almost the opposite of it lol. I'm also very careless of how others feel about me but get irritated if someone is being irrational about their ideas or agenda but I never impose my thoughts about it to them, rather just listen most of the time. Now as an adult, I decided to look back at this MBTI and being more honest with myself and got an INFP/INTP, but now I think I lean towards INTP because I prefer having logical conclusions rather than an emotional one, especially after watching this vid!
Thank you so much for this video, Harry. I'd been hitting a brick wall with the hierarchal approach to cognitive functions. Every test I take scores me 50/50 for the thinking vs feeling dichotomy, resulting in an INFP or INTP result. Yet a Fi dom is supposed to have "inferior" thinking and a Ti dom "inferior" feeling? I couldn't understand how my neutral results matched this. Your framework makes much more sense, and the Ti-Fi dip cleared up a lot of confusion! You explained everything else so well that I now think I'm neither of these types...Looking forward to hearing more :-)
I have the impression that INTP are actually quite soft, lazy, adorable philosophers/ scientists that like to work by themselves but can fit with people by being chameleonic; quite ethical not but stubbornly ethical. INFP tend to be more hardcore artists, wonderers, free spirits, stubbornly ethical, prone to quite bursts of efficiency in between their default lazyness (while INTP are more constant lazy), and are even more self centered than INTPs (which are already a lot). Overall standing up for romantic ideas even more than the soft INTPs. Both types can speak more poetry but the INTP would be a more childlike soft poetry while the INFP will come with intense emotions and harsh/direct tones so typical of many musicians and writers. Maybe this is all a bunch of speculation from me.
My brother is an intp and I'm an infp. He is way more uptight and self conscious. I'm way more talkative and creative (with him, not so much other people)
idk if i’m intp 5w4 or infp 4w5. i have shown more ‘infp traits’ throughout my life & i can definitely be more emotional. however, i only score enneagram 5 on my tests & the cognitive function tests says i use ‘Ti & Fe’. i do often search for the ‘why?’ & i have lots of the traits of intp, but i’m not the most ‘logical’. i can lead with feelings, but i constantly back track once i analyze my decisions. i experience my emotions, but i often think about them & try to justify them before i do. i rather not face them. they’re draining. i know they’re there, but if i can avoid experiencing them then i will until i can’t. if the tears come, they come, then i pull myself together & try to rationalize them. any insight on that?
Tests are a bit naff in general. Sure, an INFP will often score highly on both Ti and Fe, though, the phrasing of your words allude to a more analytical INTP dynamic.
Thank you so much for this. I have been dipping into personality type/psychology for a few years now, after knowing I am an INTP. This is the first video I have watched that acknowledges the INTP as capable of feeling deeply and observing the emotions of others. It's been so many comments I have read where people say "INTPs don't feel." Truly asinine. We are human beings after all... maybe. But I have grown up into the artsy and poetic side of life, thus resonating with the human emotional experience - especially as a female INTP, and now a mother. Ultimately, I do love intellectual endeavors and prefer justice, truth, and objectivity. Brain > heart when it comes to decision making. Thanks again for not pigeon-holing us into the cold, sloppy stereotype.
Your videos are so fascinating! I just found your book. I find myself attracted to the INTP's certainty and confidence. The grass is always greener, but alas, I'm an INFP.
As I'm sure INTPs will be attracted to your conviction and strength of character! Often goes full circle :) And thank you - I dearly hope you enjoy the book!
This was really interesting because my son is INTP and I am INFP. I have never mistyped INTP, but my son has mistyped INFP. My ex was also INTP and I found myself nodding many times through this in regard to his thought process as well as my son's. Variety anxiety is certiantly an issue for both types. I don't have trouble making changes in my life actually and have done it several times, my issue is moreso always wondering if there is a better option I have yet to find. Either that or I wish there were far less choices in the world as a whole so I couldn't or wouldn't wonder as much. I made a big lifestyle change last year though, so we certaintly can do it. I'm glad someone is finally saying INFPs can be quite analytical at times. I feel as if I am basically a deeply emotional, yet rational person simultaneously and that can get weird at times. I am taking a break from making videos for a yet undetermined amount of time, but when I am ready to return I may email you regarding some typology stuff if you'd be interested (?).
There's nothing we as people cannot overcome! That's fascinating and I thank you for sharing :) Re: typology, yes definitely send me an email at that juncture! I'll be sure to check your channel out tomorrow.
As someone who uses Fi AND Ti more than my extroverted judging functions (I'm very inefficient and def underperforming my potential), the continuum explanation was helpful, since I find myself stuck between all 4 NP types due to being creative in my head but valuing facts and logic and ideological consistency in things like arguments and explanations, and having a hard time explaining my emotions or even tapping into the negative ones, and at the same time I suppress because I am overly emotional (imo) and those get in the way of getting anything done, so I'm always trying to rationalize and distract myself and hyper focusing on who I even am and what I'm even doing with my life (without actually getting beyond the "gathering information and/or inspiration" step). What I'm trying to say is not seeing Ti and Fi in a "pick one" dichotomy is a helpful way of looking at it-- I happen to dislike black and white thinking so that's especially satisfying that there's nuance there.
So I do have a quick question on something that might need clarification. I just came from the video about 5 signs you’re not INFP and one of those signs you stated was having a static sense of identity, but here you’re saying that INFP’s are certain about their identity and while I don’t entirely think you’re wrong in either situation, speaking from personal experience as an INFP, I do feel very certain about who I want to be and who I am at any given moment but am always looking to learn and adapt to improve upon that sense of self and… well I was originally going to ask you to explain where this disconnect in information comes from but I think I just answered my own question thanks for the help!!!
Thank you so much, truly elegant descriptions of both types, the richness of the interplay between the cognitive functions was amazing! I so related to this.
It is so weird that my results differ by language. Im korean and so ny native language is korean. When i take mbti tests in korean i always get the result of infp. But when i took mbti tests in english at one point, i got the result of intj or intp (5 out of 5 tests i got the result falling into this category). I still do not understand why and i hope somebody could explain this.
That is truly fascinating. I wouldn't place my trust in online tests if I were you, but if I were to guess why this is the case I would imagine the words have different associations in your mind - in English there are positive associations with the 'Thinking' and 'Judging' answers because of the words used.
From what (little) i know about korean, it seems to be a language that uses a lot less filler words and requires a more contextual/intuitive ability to understand what doesnt need to be said (like articles, obvious pronouns, etc) English is extremely precise, probably as a result of how much it borrows & incorporates from other languages. So, i can imagine that would change how you might read the same question in the two languages, if one is more intuitively clear (especially as a native language) and the other requires a lot more components to do the same work, taking any interpretation out of how you read it. I hope that made sense😅 i also don’t know what the answer would be for which is more accurate though, aha
Ahh! This happened to me once. I took the test in english and got INTP but when I did It in Spanish I got INFP. I'm an INTP, but It makes sense that in that point (some years ago before getting truly into ir) the language mattered somehow.
As someone who dabbles with languages, bilingual people's personalities shift depending on the language they're speaking I, for once, have a far more grotesque way of speaking in Spanish
huge thanks... how you present it makes me want to dig deeper to really understand / im still deciding intp vs infp. continuums and attitudes are great indicators.. i will have another listen to this video later today.. you are for sure a pro . Huge thanks.
No worries Justin, I hope this helps you in deciding between the two, and there's an eBook if you ever need further clarification! Awesome to hear this was informative :)
Please help!, I think I feel a lot, like I always am feeling for others, I constantly have empathy and stuff for everyone around me. When then when it comes to comforting them and dealing with my own emotions, I have a mental break down, I hate it, I don't know how to comfort them, I don't know what to say other then share my experiences, and when I feel really upset or emotional, I push it aside and would never show it publicly. But you know I feel too stupid to be an intp..anyway...cause I never do my hw or anything and I also am silly and muck around...and care what people think...but with decisions, I usually take whatevers fair before anything else. I also can be insensitive too...its weird tho.. So I empathize a lot like an infp, but I have no control of my emotions like an intp..maybe Im just a logical infp..or a highly empathetic intp?"
@@johonanandrewgomes7593 I go by whatever is fair in an anything. And my morals change often but I have an intp friend and she barely even knows when someone else is upset. I know when people are sad in public and I freak out all day about them but I know I can't do anything to help and I know that well I can go ahead and help them I guess...I know that in the future they probably won't return the favour... but at the same time I feel bad..its just so awkward being vulnerable and showing my sensitive side
this is an old video but helpful nonetheless. i just realized and am 100% certain i'm an intp because you said that the intp is good at making mechanical and logical decisions, but aren't the best at making emotional ones, they can mess them up. i thought i was an infp for so long because people kept telling me i was strange but then i realized it was just my inferior fe. thank you, you've truly helped me.
I still am not sure as to which type is best applied to myself. In the beginning I took the test and received INTP, and then I received the same result several years in a row. However recently I have become open to the possibility of an INFP, since it has become apparent that previously I was discounting that as a possibility due to my negative perceptions of that type. The biggest points of concern that make me doubt my typing is my seeming lack of interest in mechanistic things (as far as I can tell, I very much struggle to generate an interest in STEM topics), and my uncertainty about the extent to which I maintain an "internal logical framework". Perhaps I am merely misinterpreting (or not interpreting) the terminology, or perhaps I am not able to conceptualise the way in which a particular concept maps onto my own experience. Regardless, the uncertainty is irritating. It seems recently I have "indulged my INFP side" to a degree, though whether it is an "indulgence" or more accurately described as my natural state of being is yet to be determined. I have increasingly favoured topics in the humanities over more mechanistic things, and when I do study mechanistic things I seem to prefer viewing them through some sort of humanities-lens. I am not sure how "natural" this is, since it is possible that much of my current actions are a result of conclusions I came to years ago about how I should behave and what is important, which perhaps "corrupt" behaviour to a certain extent. I don't like thinking about it. It's muddy. I wasn't even sure why I cared about this stuff until a few minutes ago, where it became apparent that I am in some way attached to this "INTP" identity, and that it is important because I consider it to be an aspect of my person. I don't particularly like thinking about my identity though, it just feels somewhat gross. Anyhow, I'll probably settle on this sooner or later. My main concern is that I've spent all these years consuming information related to INTPs, only to find out I'm not an INTP but in fact an INFP. It is annoying, I shall have to start over again. Worse still I'm not sure what use I can still gain from this model, since I am not sure the category of INFP is sufficient either. I don't particularly like thinking about other people, and I often say that I "forget other people are not the same as me". Maybe I am just being stupid because it is 4am and I am operating on 4 hours sleep from the night before. Seems possible.
Interesting! I think I might be an INTP since I have some natural dislike for having both objective and subjective identities existing at the same time. I lean heavily to identifying my objective identity and identifying WITH my objective identity. I want there to be one complete truth based identity. In my younger years it made me oblivious to my natural traits (likes and dislikes), which caused some mental issues. I simply thought that there's some traits that "make sense" and that I should only identify with them.
Aaah thank u for this! I always got 50% thinking & feeling with every test, and i convinced myself i must just be an infp who had skewed my tests because of much i *wish* i was more logical and less emotional. I tend to push down emotions & they come up when i would rather i didnt, which i thought made me more feeling than thinking but it makes perfect sense that that feeling is just more subconscious-also why im so much better at assessing other people’s emotions than my own😂😂 im so happy i found this!
When you said that the difference is in the attitude and an intp is much more certain about their logic. That made me think I’m definitely intp. But yes we are definitely emotional and sensitive. I’m actually in the performing arts.
That's a very interesting comparison! I currently have 1-2 more type comparisons to do before that but would definitely love to get round to that soon!
@@CognitivePersonality Thanks! I'm looking forward to how you'll explain Ti with Ne & Ni with Ti but I can wait... I'm still checking out the rest of the vids you have. Really insightful. Thanks for making them (=
I have found it very difficult to find information that makes sense or tallies up when it comes to the real notable differences between intps and infps. I think you have done a remarkable job in explaining the potential differences and similarities between the two. What I am still really stuck on understanding is really how much is the infp more emotional than the intp. So what I mean by that is, does the infp have a greater understanding of their own emotional input than the intp? Does the intp not have that same ease of understanding their own emotions? I find it highly annoying when it is said in the type communities that infps are emotional and intps are robotic, as that just sounds immature to me. And removes the amount of thinking that the infp does and the amount of feeling an intp has. I have observed very little notable difference between the two types. I certainly cannot say one type is more observably more emotional than the other. They both certainly display variable emotions and can be stoic in their expressions, as well as have their emotional outbursts. I really do think these two types are very similar. But the one notable difference I have observed is that the intps tend to have a more group think and are more willing to bend and go along with the group rather than infps that appear to be more individual think. And it is very subtle. Such as intps I have found may be more willing to do some charity event including a group of people, and infps are more willing to stand up for an idea that they hold dear.
An amazing video! I often fight between myself on whether or not I am more so infp or intp due to how much I value empathy and find that it is what I lean upon when in difficult situations, however my objectivity and logical approach to mediating situations and facing conflict is vital to my relationships. I'm quite analytic over how I identify and who I am and I've always been quite confident in that fact. I'm very socially aware of what's going on around me including people's feelings and my own, however with the many decisions on how to approach I'm at a stand still. I find that identifying my personality type is also hindered by my large anxiety disorder which yes is apart of who I have become but more often than not influences me irrationally which doesn't necessarily add into who I am as a person and who I identify as. I think for now I will stick with identifying as an infp with what I've learned through this video but I'm quite interested to what I may discover in the future!
very interesting what you had to say about Ni and Fi, it makes so much sense. whenever i'm trying to figure out Fi it does feel exactly like i'm looking into myself, and it's all very confusing and muddled. and that in turn helped me understand how Ni actually works. i mean, conceptually, i knew how it worked. but now i truly understand, and it's so satisfying that it makes sense. can't wait for more of your videos.
One of the primary intentions of CPT was to 'de-muddle' all of these terms and bring them into direct relation to eachother in a way that makes fluid sense. It's an absolute relief to hear you now have a clearer understanding of those two concepts - and, yes, when we see the functions for what they are it is both satisfying and freeing :) Saturday's video will be a more informal upload as I share my own 'type journey' and the direct-informative content will carry on the Saturday after, albeit with some improved visual elements!
@@CognitivePersonality oh i meant that it's muddled when i'm trying to figure out what i feel, when i'm figuring out my Fi. but yes the concept of Ni was unclear to me until i watched your "5 myths about infjs" video, and this video further improved my understanding of it, since now i can see myself how i use Ni and Fi together. i'm no longer questioning if i'm an infp, i'm as certain as i can ever be that i'm an intp, but i had to verify and i'm glad i did because this was important information that i was missing.
@@leticiacastro150 Understood! Yes, that makes sense now as the INTP Fi-connection is indeed muddled and I see now why that statement was in relation to this video :) That's exactly what I wanted to help people with in this video as I feel it's a common point of conflict for both types, and it's important to get all the information for that very reason!
Once upon a time I had to realize that thought begins pre-verbally, articulating a thought into words is a reflective, reflexive action that is secondary. People can confuse this pre-verbal state with what other people call feeling: our vocabulary is ridiculously inexact when it come to talking about ourselves (humans). I've see recent studies even that don't differentiate between instinctive and intuitive!
One of the easiest ways to know is how you judge the people around you. INTPs constantly judge the people around them thinking that other people are less intelligent than they are. The thought that someone they encountered in real life might be smarter than them , actually disturbs them. INFPs tend to think that they are the kindest and most compassionate and everyone else is less compassionate and less kinder. The thought that someone can be kinder and more compassionate than them actually disturbs them. INTPs care more about being smart. INFPs care more about being good.
@@CognitivePersonality One this basis I relate more to INTP. I don't mean i am better at maths or things like that. As i am nothing special as far as that goes. But emotional intelligence then 100% spot on.
@@deadmanwalking1930 Absolutely, check out my website for information on CPT consultations and type services, and get in touch over email for smaller enquiries :)
Yeah this is a really simple way but can't infp value being smart? I have been always thinking values as morals or emotions that infps have but i think an infp can accept anything as their values like being logical? As he mentioned in another video infps are generally observers of the logic so that means they can evaluate ideas, concepts, people as logical or illogical according to their binary system and can't that be that their value? So an infp will judge people according to their logical capacity or intelligence. That sounds dumb actually but i had been struggling to type myself and just decided that i am an infp but these kind of comments taking me to where i start.
can I borrow your brain?! this has been the most accurate and informative piece of information I have found comparing the infp and intp. Having gotten these two results in tests before and finding I relate to both, its been incredibly confusing to 'decide' or 'interpret' what type I really am! so thank you for your knowledge and willingness to share it! I think I may be more of an INTP....might watch this video again though to be make sure haha
@@CognitivePersonality I don't know if you are familiar with Michael Pierce channel but he says that the 2 in his description of the INFJ are very similar. If you haven't found his channel yet you are in for a treat. Have a great weekend.
Harry, the initial CPT information and fluid dynamics makes a lot of sense (clearing up MBTI inconsistencies) in how I personally see cognitive functions manifest, both in myself and in other people I know enough to have typed them accurately. I notice this in my Ni/Ti vs. Fe/Se, I notice it in an ENTP co-worker with Ne/Fe vs. Ti/Si... It seems to me almost like a shift in personality, especially when there is a pressing issue to use one stack, or another, as the "driver" of the person's mind (at least in that moment).
Cheers Matt, this is awesome to hear! And yes! The First and Second Person analogy is a good way of perceiving the dominant-oppositional axis and the opposing natures of the convergent and divergent stacks :)
I am confused about whether I am an INFP or an unhealthy INTP because both have many traits that I can identify with and I could see myself as a healthy INTP eventually, however, I'm not sure if that is genuinely me, or just someone I want to be.
I previously thought I was INTP, but this video is making think that I’m really and infp. I’m not very emotional or sensitive, but I do have a strong sense of identity and I’m in tune with my emotions.
I typically get categorized as an INFP (through online personality tests) but whenever learning more about the different experiences of INTP/INFP I tend to relate more to the INTP-type. I am someone who experiences a lot of feelings; this being something I've come to understand (or, rather, accept) better later in life as it has never been something I've really wanted to identify with first-hand. My high neuroticism is something I've always been trying to understand through logic. I'm having a hard time deciding what to make of this. I guess in reality I'm afraid of being more feeling-driven than I'd like to think - but I don't know whether this is more likely to indicate that I'm an INTP because of the way I value thought>emotion or if thought-based analysis is just a way for me to cope with, or compensate for, being an INFP. How do I go about evaluating this?
I wouldn't necessarily say either type is more feeling-driven that the other - rather, you must determine whether you think specifically, or plethorically (where everything must be connected at expense of detail), and whether you prefer to follow frameworks using external data or construct them yourself (in the case of a Ti-dominant).
@@writerducky2589so Ti-Si eg specific thinking is very detailed and sequential; think of say symbolic logic: if A then B, if A then not C. Plethoric thinking pertaining to the INFPs Ni-Ti is much more abstract as Ni is the the internal vague/broad perception of data. I'm trying to think of an example and I'm an Ni-Ti ussr 🤓🤯. They're too sides of the same coin; Harry's used the example of a lens before; think of say a beam of light going through an eye ball and watching it constrict then expand outwards - that's Ti-Si gradually 'becoming' Ni-Ti
hi thanks for this video, after almost 5 years of searching for my identity finally i know who i am now , your videos are great and very scientifically precise, please continue this good work, although i watched twice this and some of your videos to find out, but definitely worth it, anyway i am intp and very grateful and i am waiting for part 3 of lotr series:::)))
My whole goddamn life is a metaphor as an infp. I speak in metaphors because I can never recall any terminology. Overall, I have enjoyed this video and agree with everything you have said about infp, but the way you talk is dry and it's kinda like terminology. We think and talk very differently from the way things should be explained. Believe me, it was very hard for me not to use an abundance of metaphors here. I would love to hear what you have to say on the infp in more depth. I find you are one of few who actually get us and not explaining us as some cuddly cute irrational stuffed bear who's always busy day dreaming.
when i took cognitive process test my result came having 45.2 ti and 45 fi and when i took a lot of mbti test my results are always intp but then there's 1 infp (the feeling only have 1% difference than thinking) so many videos said that intp consider many posibilities and i do so too, but considering many posibilities thinking came to me consciously after i experienced overthinking, also i only remember having the behaviors of an intp (that most of the videos i see on the internet says) after i experienced overthinking too. Well... you can say that my mentality changed after i experienced some personal problems or is it just i'm only 17 and back in the days i don't give a single shit about the things around me. I'm still confused with my mbti type but i hope i'll get to know it after i have watched your videos but i still think that i wouldn't know my mbti unless i fully understand how mbti works, but i'll still watch your videos because i really think and feel that you're a knowledgeable guy. yea... think and feel.... edit: i also feel that you know mbti so much than the other youtubers but then i questioned it instantly. yea feel first... does that have something to do with my mbti? of course it does right? so i'm an infp or other mbti that has f in it? bruh... man... the thing that that im confused the most is myself.
INFP here. I suspect there are a great number of INFP scientists who assume they must be INTP because of the stereotyped idea that scientists are Ts. I love the sciences, theoretical approaches, and analysis. Enjoy talking with INTPs very much. We always end up in the book corner at social functions anyway.
@@liberatiom5781 I'm not totally sure what you mean when you say, "this is only true bc of divergent thinking . . ." What were you referring to when you said, "this..."
@@liberatiom5781 Ah, thank you! That makes sense. I'm still learning about Cognitive Personality Theory's approach to the way that preferences act together and affect one another. This is a completely different approach that I am find more informative. It certainly provides more depth.
@@liberatiom5781 Another thought about this subject . . . Sometimes people are uncomfortable with my ability to not come to a conclusion. I tell them I have a perpetual mental stockpot simmering on the back burner of my brain. I can take things and put them in that pot and leave it there until I get more data or until an update to my ruleset makes the data come together.
@@mousethatroared1213this! I'm a cognitive ENFJ with an FeTi 50/50 highly fluid axis and a highly developed Ti-Si convergence (typed by CPT). I highly relate to not having definitive conclusions and putting them on the back burner until more 'information' presents itself. My Ni-Ti may know roughly what direction I'm heading towards but my Ti-Si solidifies my perspectives. It's like NiTi is the outline of the painting and Ti-Si is the colour.
I have been undecided between both types for long. I think I can see I am probably an INTP. I love music and social sciences, I endless question my identity. My logic is probably attached rather than detached. I don't know if I play much with habits. Certainly I like habits and comfort. I think a lot about society and about their motivations. Is this my inferior Fe? Frameworks? Yes that's me. I think I use Ti as much as Fi. I think I tend towards more rigidity of thoughts than feelings. I can easily change my feelings. But I hate seeing others upset.
At work, I function in an introverted thinking landscape. I am a lawyer. In my community leadership roles, I likewise use introverted thinking to analyze problems and issues and come up with solutions. But I am an INFP. My focus is on values and making a difference in the world. I thought your video was helpful, as I see more commonality with the INTP than any other type.
could u also do ISFP and ISTP?? I havent seen people talking much about how Ti Fi dichotomy works in the Se aux users without being cognitive biased. also i love ur channel so much.
I was fairly certain I am an INFP the description resonates with me more than an INTP but watching this, now I'm not certain. It's far too intellectual for me. I got lost lol. I think I'm more of a creative person than an intellectual one, if too many smart words are being used constantly I tend to lose my understanding of what is being said so I just got really confused. Perhaps you can type me based on what I do with my time? I hope so because once I am concrete on my type, perhaps I can then fix my problems by developing in my type-specific way. I would say I'm pretty creative and love to think outside the box. My biggest problem is productivity and executing my ideas. I'm writing a story and it's going well but I wish I was one of those people that can just sit down and start writing without having to motivate themselves to do WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. For instance, in University I would sit down to start my dissertation with the blank page open when I woke up, and by the time I went to sleep I was still trying to get myself to write something all the way till it was due in the next 1 or 2 days and then end up cramming with a couple of friends that motivated me and energy drinks. My every intention was to finish it as soon as I was given it. I feel like I've been in a war with my brain for 35 years that's why I'm watching videos like this. I'm now developing a story using John Truby's Anatomy of Story framework. It's a story with the intention to wake up the world to the shortcomings of a monetary and Governmental system using the lives work of genius inventor Jacques Fresco's lives work on developing our society. There is a better way and I want people to see it. It's the most important thing to me and I believe it is my purpose. Before I discovered this I was always gaming my life away. Whenever I want to do something I always try to find the best ways other people smarter than myself have done it and then I will try to use their system to do it myself, at the same time I have great ideas frequently and can usually know exactly how to make something better like a "You could do this and it would be better, I just know it" but then I don't know how to actually do what I just said myself. I feel like I have amazing ideas but have trouble implementing them and need a finisher type to execute my ideas and I would be a millionaire by now lol. I feel like I'm more of an idea man than a technical skill man. So what do you think, INFP or INTP? or something else entirely!? I think INFP myself but I could be wrong. You've studied this so I trust your judgment, what do you think? This is very important to me, it could be life-changing. I need to make myself more productive. If anyone has the solution I'd love to hear it, Daniel - INFP, I think?
I'm a data engineer, yet I crave creativity. I'm very much attuned to what people in the room are feeling, but usually I don't act on it. I'm actually a little arrogant in the sense that I can project my own understanding of someone, and effectively tell that person that I understand them better than they understand themselves. I'm 100% clumsy, I always laugh that I don't have kinetic intelligence at all. I think I'm an INFP (who's been masquerading as an ENTJ for a long time!). You're welcome to watch videos on my channel and tell me if you disagree. Perhaps there is something in the way I think or speak that you'll be able to pick up on, something that I'm oblivious too.
Very interesting! I took a look at your content and ENFP seems more likely - plus, conscientious people of this type tend to receive a Te-dominant result from tests. Interesting channel btw!
@@CognitivePersonality Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my content! On one hand I agree with your opinion - it is possible that I gather patterns subconsciously, and I only use Fi in a conscious manner (if that would be a supportive argument for typing as an ENFP). Yet to be completely honest with you, I am also dissatisfied with the content that I produce at the moment, and in a way, I'll risk saying that I'm a little repulsed by certain aspects of it. My content feels to me like remnants of my old self, which crawled out to the surface of something that was meant to be pure, and polluted it. Feelings like this make me think that I must be guided by Fi. I'm also not particularly extroverted, to use the simplest terms. But I'm not adamant about this, and indeed you might be right. Thanks again! :)
As an INTP, I admit that I somewhat enjoy experimenting with the different ways I can do nothing.
Haha I love this!

Masters Procrastinators ...It reminds me I am supposed to write my masters thesis right now !
Damn. I need to read your book.
Indeed - this sounds consistent with the divergent position of Fe within the INTP stack - observing as it does rather than acting upon :)
"I can't believe there are people who can see someone being upset and then just approach them and help them without worrying how the upset person will react."
I'm an INFP and I struggle with the same thing actually.
However, I would like to understand one particular thing:
Harry attributes this phenomenon to the divergent nature of Fe of INTP.
Which is also the case for an INFJ (or ISFJ)
So we see the similarity. But what is the difference? Are IxFJs able to overcome this easier than IxTP? Would they be able to socialise, eventually, easier than IxTPs...?
exactly so.
FINALLY! Someone who has a typing system that actually makes sense and isn't unnecessarily dense or contradictory! Keep up the good work friend!
Thank you for this comment!
I shall do :)

I'm an INFP with a degree in computer science and minors in both math and management info systems.
This is so often the case, and makes it all the more apparent how the typical INFP stereotypes just don't match reality.
@@CognitivePersonality Someone like Dave Super Powers will say it's because the person is a self-mistyped ESTJ.
I'm probably infp i have a lot of Fi. And I'm studying math and comp sci. Lmao
I have been typed as INTP time and time again and I'm in 🧚~THE ARTS~🦄
@@CognitivePersonality I really appreciate the amout of attention you've given the INFP type. :-) It has helped me understand myself better.
She's innocent and sweet, she likes to read books and make some poetry.
woahhh. this sounds so MUCH like me (an INTP) and my close friend (INFP). and like you, I'm the one who's more inclined to creative stuff, while she's working in the academic setting
this sounds like me! (your friend that is) I appreciate it! It gives me clarity that I am most likely an infp lol
Edit: this isn’t relevant anymore, I did my own research into cognitive functions, socionics and whatnot over the years. Im an ENFP
The dichotomy scores tend to sow more confusion than they solve :)
INTPs are precise Thinkers whereas INFPs think more plethorically, with far less certainty than the former.
X2
@@CognitivePersonality ooh okay thanks!!
@@CognitivePersonality im 49% thinking, 51% feeling, help lol:"
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
You literally just confirmed for good that I am INTP not INFP and that is awesome. I needed a pretty in depth explanation like this - the other INTP vs INFP videos just list differences between the feeling and thinking instead of going about explaining how the subject interacts with their functions.
Very helpful and awesome
Wonderful news - thank you for this comment! Glad the video helped :)
ugh ive gotten INFP for the longest time and now i know im INTP! i watch a lot of your videos so thank you!
I'm so glad!
I love how you debunk myths and show that mbti is much deeper and more interesting than it looks
A typical 5W4 INTP and 4W5 INFP are especially similar.
Ahh interesting.
how about INTP 4w5? :D
I'm an enneagram 5w4 and I can't if I'm a INFP or INTP. I heard a INFP 5w4 can look like an INTP. So I don't know 😕
INTP. Sometimes I think, sometimes I feel. I prefer to think. The main difference seems to me to be adaptability.
Agreed!
Yessss we need an equal amount of objectivity and subjectivity! Absolutely that point needs to be made more often.
When I saw your stare I immediately told to myself that you're an INFJ :)
Hehehe - 100% authentic INFJ :)
@@CognitivePersonality I'm sorry for the late reply, i appreciate your support, thank you!
Yes indeed my friend - you were one of the examples I thought of when discussing this!
I have plenty of emotions. I think about them a lot! ~ INTP
Exactly!
Exactly! INTPs are often very deep feelers very much driven by an emotional sub-current :)
Law is indeed a nice blend of the logical specificity of the type alongside a natural inclination towards social order and justice!
Awesome :)
Anyway thanks for the video, I hope I understood it right ~~
ps: sorry if my writing does not sound "English" because most of the time I write the way I think in my native language ^^'
I love the glasses analogy!
MY BRAIN IS EXPLODING
Hah, happy to provide ignition!
That's reassuring to hear - thank you!
Thanks for the awesome comment!
I'd love to know what you think of the book too!
Sounds plausible!
I am facing the exact same things too. It's somehow calming to read about similar situations.
I have exactly similar situation.
Thanks for sharing!
This is one of the best videos on differentiating these types I have seen.
Thank you, that means a lot!
also for intps there is Ti-Si loop of death were intp are just going trough life not acoplshing anything and it's defficoult to them to break out of this....
Maybe this is all a bunch of speculation from me.
very unfavourable for the INTP, but I understand where this is coming from, and I agree (
Omg now I’m seriously doubting I’m really not an INTP…
@AimeeVignes Because a random commenter on TH-cam posted some complely anecdotal evidence? Come on now...
@@CognitivePersonality thank you so much for the reply :)
Brilliant!! This T vs F is quite the conundrum for me. I am still lost, but much less lost
I like this explanation a lot . Awesome video. the comments section is awesome too. Very interactive
Thank you! Yes, I love all the interactions and conversation beneath this video too!
I’m literally 51% thinking and 49% feeling. I’m super dependent on my moods!
Test scores and dichotomies are generally unreliable for determining your type :)
can you explain exactly what you mean by the “mechanical world” and how one interacts with that using extraverted thinking? amazing video!
Thank you! The 'mechanical world' refers simply to non-human components making up a part of a mechanism or non-human process :)
Very informative. Haven't found a better comparison on youtube, great stuff. An INTP vs INFJ comparison would be very interesting i believe
Thank you! I'll certainly put that comparison on the list :)
Your videos are so fascinating! I just found your book. I find myself attracted to the INTP's certainty and confidence. The grass is always greener, but alas, I'm an INFP.
As I'm sure INTPs will be attracted to your conviction and strength of character! Often goes full circle :)
And thank you - I dearly hope you enjoy the book!
That's fascinating and I thank you for sharing :)
Re: typology, yes definitely send me an email at that juncture! I'll be sure to check your channel out tomorrow.
@@CognitivePersonality Thanks, will do!
"Whether or not they act on it" had me laughing
Haha
So I do have a quick question on something that might need clarification. I just came from the video about 5 signs you’re not INFP and one of those signs you stated was having a static sense of identity, but here you’re saying that INFP’s are certain about their identity and while I don’t entirely think you’re wrong in either situation, speaking from personal experience as an INFP, I do feel very certain about who I want to be and who I am at any given moment but am always looking to learn and adapt to improve upon that sense of self and… well I was originally going to ask you to explain where this disconnect in information comes from but I think I just answered my own question thanks for the help!!!
As an intp with an infp boyfriend, this video truly is spot on.
So jealous with intp infp couple, i need it hahaha.🎉
Thank you so much, truly elegant descriptions of both types, the richness of the interplay between the cognitive functions was amazing! I so related to this.
Thanks so much! :)
From what (little) i know about korean, it seems to be a language that uses a lot less filler words and requires a more contextual/intuitive ability to understand what doesnt need to be said (like articles, obvious pronouns, etc)
English is extremely precise, probably as a result of how much it borrows & incorporates from other languages.
As someone who dabbles with languages, bilingual people's personalities shift depending on the language they're speaking
I, for once, have a far more grotesque way of speaking in Spanish
So much is making sense to me because of your videos! So glad to have found this channel
Very clear explanation. Thank you so much!
huge thanks... how you present it makes me want to dig deeper to really understand / im still deciding intp vs infp. continuums and attitudes are great indicators.. i will have another listen to this video later today.. you are for sure a pro .
You 'seem' like more of an Fi dominant - check out my INFP vs ISFP video :)
Dude you are not alone
Your an INTP, unless you dont understand what logic is
@@johonanandrewgomes7593 I go by whatever is fair in an anything.
Thanks for the comment! :)
Thank you so much!, this really helped
Wow! This is exactly What I realized! Thank you!
This helped me ground my type for once!
I'm so glad to hear this!
When you said that the difference is in the attitude and an intp is much more certain about their logic. That made me think I’m definitely intp. But yes we are definitely emotional and sensitive. I’m actually in the performing arts.
You might even find an INTP playing with their habits and adjusting their lifestyle for fun - literally me right now
Haha nice
I’m an INTP who dated a INFP for 5 years and I can say your Analysis was spot on👍🏾
Cheers!
Very jealous of you guys hahaha
how about one on INTP vs INFJ, please?
Thank you! Your flowing script does seem more congruent to an Fi dom - good luck with your journey!
very interesting what you had to say about Ni and Fi, it makes so much sense. whenever i'm trying to figure out Fi it does feel exactly like i'm looking into myself, and it's all very confusing and muddled. and that in turn helped me understand how Ni actually works. i mean, conceptually, i knew how it worked. but now i truly understand, and it's so satisfying that it makes sense. can't wait for more of your videos.
One of the primary intentions of CPT was to 'de-muddle' all of these terms and bring them into direct relation to eachother in a way that makes fluid sense. It's an absolute relief to hear you now have a clearer understanding of those two concepts - and, yes, when we see the functions for what they are it is both satisfying and freeing :)
Saturday's video will be a more informal upload as I share my own 'type journey' and the direct-informative content will carry on the Saturday after, albeit with some improved visual elements!
Yes, that makes sense now as the INTP Fi-connection is indeed muddled and I see now why that statement was in relation to this video :)
That's exactly what I wanted to help people with in this video as I feel it's a common point of conflict for both types, and it's important to get all the information for that very reason!
This is often a fair distinction :)
@@CognitivePersonality One this basis I relate more to INTP. I don't mean i am better at maths or things like that. As i am nothing special as far as that goes. But emotional intelligence then 100% spot on.
@@CognitivePersonality Also do you think it would be possible to talk to you online to get a better idea of my type ?
Glad the video helped!
This was a really good one, I hope you can do one on INFJ and ISTP. Thanks 😊
Will certainly get round to this sometime!
It takes time!
I previously thought I was INTP, but this video is making think that I’m really and infp. I’m not very emotional or sensitive, but I do have a strong sense of identity and I’m in tune with my emotions.
I'm in the same
I typically get categorized as an INFP (through online personality tests) but whenever learning more about the different experiences of INTP/INFP I tend to relate more to the INTP-type.
@@CognitivePersonality I don't suppose you have an example of specific thinking and plethoric thinking, and another of what a framework is?
Thank you so much! LOTR Part III coming very soon (next week or week after) :)
Fair points! I'm working on a 5 Signs You're Not An INFP video which will explore the type in much more depth :)
when i took cognitive process test my result came having 45.2 ti and 45 fi and when i took a lot of mbti test my results are always intp but then there's 1 infp (the feeling only have 1% difference than thinking)
so many videos said that intp consider many posibilities and i do so too, but considering many posibilities thinking came to me consciously after i experienced overthinking, also i only remember having the behaviors of an intp (that most of the videos i see on the internet says) after i experienced overthinking too. Well... you can say that my mentality changed after i experienced some personal problems or is it just i'm only 17 and back in the days i don't give a single shit about the things around me. I'm still confused with my mbti type but i hope i'll get to know it after i have watched your videos but i still think that i wouldn't know my mbti unless i fully understand how mbti works, but i'll still watch your videos because i really think and feel that you're a knowledgeable guy.
yea... think and feel....
edit: i also feel that you know mbti so much than the other youtubers but then i questioned it instantly. yea feel first... does that have something to do with my mbti? of course it does right? so i'm an infp or other mbti that has f in it? bruh...
man... the thing that that im confused the most is myself.
used to think i was one or the other, now i think im both. there were a lot of points on both sides that my personality seem to adopt
Dichotomies-wise everyone fluctuates anyway!
Best explanation I found on INTPs and INFPs. Keep up!
Still can't decide which one I really am. Too many options hahahah
Thanks so much!
@@CognitivePersonality
No worries!
You sounds like me, intp.
Thank you :)
And, yes, I do want to compare the ISFP and ISTP!
I'm just grateful I can follow this! XD I cannot wait for the book-- aaahhhh!!!! haha
Just doing the final tests and if it's good to go I'll send you a link :)
Thanks for making this video
It was very educational
Great to hear :)
