I type as an INTP, but hate the "socially inept" stereotype. I believe that I can "read a room" or a person and act accordingly. I don't engage until I'm ready, but I'm rarely awkward or oblivious to what's going on with people.
The way I see it (or feel it, as an INTP), we "can" read people or social situations well, but we might not feel the urge to say anything, or we might be bouncing ideas off ourselves before doing it with others.
Don’t worry, INTPs can be quite introverted but once in a social situation can actually find themselves being quite witty when they aren’t overthinking things. INTJs are the real awkward ones; their sense of humor is often something only they themselves find funny. My guess is that since INTPs use Fe, they’re actually going to be more socially aware and calibrated than someone who is an INTJ.
Great point on the artistic interests being an INTP strength! It does seem like it's almost completely ignored. I used to think I was an odd outlier or maybe even a mistyped INFP because I was artistic, musical, and loved creative writing (or any creative endeavor, really). I wouldn't be surprised if a number of graphic, game, web, and CG/digital artists are INTPs, because it does bridge the gap between creative and technical. I'm a digital artist myself, and I like how versatile it is.
I've definitely noticed this in my INTP son, his favourite subjects at school being IT and Music, but also loves Maths, Science, Geography, Drama, Art.
Yeah, I liked this point as well! I've always had creative interests and "hard science" types of interest both. I grew up interested in astronomy and physics AND creative writing, I am still super into physics and maths and honestly generally all natural sciences... and fiction, both consuming and creating it.
Ah I can somewhat relate. I'm an ENFJ and we often get stereotyped as some kind of cult leader whereas many of us have a natural aptitude for the hard and soft sciences; I always enjoyed physics equally to psychology for example. True, psychology aligns more with my goals and I do have a hard time accepting branches into my theories of everything if they can't be synthesised
So true for my INTP son, he has an adorable use of Fe, but when he gets overwhelmed by too many visitors in the house, goes into a mega-grump and has to hide in his room to recover!
Thank you for this, I grew up all my life under the assumption that my way of thinking was "wrong" through societal standards and thus I classified myself as dumb for not being able to quickly keep up with understanding mechanical data at a fast rate. I understand things in my own time in my own way, and creating my own systems allows me to utilize my strength at the greatest capacity.
Im an INTP. Thanks for your amazing insight. I love the term you mentioned "Procedural memory" It reminded me of the quote by Leonardo Davici "Learn how to see. Realise how everything connects to everything else" because if you 'see' the connections even metaphorically, your memory for those relationships becomes procedural and you can unlock an amazing mental potential. This fascinates me deeply. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks you!
The biggest problem with the typology community is the lack of grass-touching, very rarely someone interested in cognitive functions has the audacity to get to know anyone outside of their comfort zone. I mean, has someone ever gone to another continent only for the sake of gathering information and formulating personality ideas? Sadly, that's why INTP are considered socially inept 😢
This is one of the reasons why the parenting style that's been popular for the past few decades (overprotective, focused on safety and comfort) can be so harmful. Most people need to be pushed out of their comfort zones when they're developing, or they will face a life of anxiously seeking comfort. As an INTP, I am so grateful to have had parents who pushed me. Had I not learned how to deal with my discomfort and awkwardness at a fairly young age, I would probably be a neurotic shut-in.
Wah I can't believe out of the 16 types, your new video turns out about the INTP. How lucky! The part in which you talk about the INTP's utilisation of Fe is especially relatable though to me this observant/divergent usage of Fe as opposed to the almost complete drop of it around my close people has always felt like a restriction rather than a strength (probably because it is my inferior function). Also, the part in which you touch upon the ability of this type to form a synthesis out of both their creative and more intellectual tendencies has been relatable, especially when you explicitly said it has a natural linguistic ability, which just merely blew my mind because as an INTP, I study IT engineering and aim to become a software engineer, but somehow my fascination with language learning has inadvertently dropped me in the field of language teaching as well, and I have practically no intention of pursuing either of them at the expense of the other. I intend to continue to do both.
Love your analysis. It helps me understand when I act or do the things I don't normally do. Sometimes I cannot even predict how I will act as there are too many possibilities under different circumstances..
Thank you and appreciate how you've debunked many of the INTP stereotypical behaviours, myths, social dynamics, etc. Personally, particularly as I've grown older, I feel I am more clued in to the Fe environment and the social landscape than most people! With maturity Fe opposing becomes one of our greatest strengths. And yes we can be quite artistic leaning towards the technical (in may own case, photography and drumming). Great channel and one of the most accurate INTP analyses I've watched... terrific stuff!
Boom! You nailed it. My Partner is an INTP and this description is so much more accurate than the stereotypes. He is my greatest Fe teacher in life (a function I have had the hardest time appreciating). His Fe is so pure and true and polite. Seeing it in its pure form has undone my Fi’s prejudice that it’s fake/manipulative. Stereotypes would say I (an ENFP) am the one of us who is “good with people” but there are many instances where that is certainly not the case!
Nicely said. I know that as an INTP, I always loved ENFP’s with their laid-back nature, gentleness and non-judgmental attitudes; and their intellectual curiosities.I have been married to an INTJ, and find that he can be extremely judgmental, often moody and emotional and be very harsh and critical of other people, including myself; and know intuitively I would have been happier if he was an ENFP. INTJ’s are also logically driven like us INTP’s, but are all about efficiency, more status conscious, whilst not enjoy having deep intellectual curiosities , or philosophical conversations that we crave.
@@aimenechikhi8553Perhaps I haven’t made myself understood, as I didn’t intend to say that I’m unsatisfied with my INTJ hubby, but rather that I didn’t like the fact that he tends to be too critical and judgmental of other individuals, and be more laid back like an ENFP. I also tell him upfront to not be so harsh and critical of the others, and try to be more open minded. Anyways … living with people is not easy, and unfortunately people are so often deluded into thinking that marriage manifest in a great partnership and that honeymoon stage will be everlasting; and this is one of the reasons why so many couples end in divorce. In addition, people don’t communicate and make sacrifices, either. Anyways… at least I can say we have been married for 20+ years. Also, it would have been better said if unhealthy MBTI types tend to be judgmental and overly critical.
Although there are some things I do not agree with CS Jospeh, like sone of his takes on religion, I do have to agree with him here. I know that as an INTP myself I have always been deeply caring and loyal. Ghosting and flakiness were always alien to me. I think that many people see us as cold and uncaring, because of our inferior Fe, and don’t always feel comfortable showing that side is is. We also do to our extreme understanding of human nature and the way are, we know intuitive that people can easily exploit that side of me. My dad would get angry with me because he would notice that I would allow my friend to take advantage of me while I was aware that she was doing so; and that was because she was the only friends I had when I was in high school.
Why are there so few of this type, INTP, in comparison to others? You spoke of importance this type is to humanity; I consider myself an excellent judge of character, for example. It is exactly how you described it in your video, actually. Thank you for your analysis.
I would agree with that. I was lucky in that I had an ISTJ to mentor me through a lot of things. I owe much of my confidence to him and thankfully, I'm able to pay it all back now. INTP face many, many struggles early on, like that same possibility-generating Ne causing significant anxiety and even paranoia in some instances. I would say inertia or just lack of direction is also a huge barrier to personal growth and achievement.
@@sad_doggo2504 I struggle with at least some social anxiety also. The ability to learn to think practically and follow through on things has been tough. Another problem for me has been dating and being intimate. I'm getting better at all of these things as I now know they are problems.
@@bernardthefourth Yes, exactly. I've had partners complain that I'm not spontaneous enough but my brain just doesn't work that way. I have to ritualize (systematize) things often to be comfortable. Or, just be okay with being uncomfortable temporarily (here certain therapeutic approaches are lifesavers).
@@sad_doggo2504 Ne is for sure responsible for the social anxiety aspect. I know an ISFJ that struggles with it, NE is his 4th or shadow function if you will. If you are NE dominant like and ENTP or ENFP you can master it and those folks kick ass. Having it as a lower function makes it a bear to develop. I think having Ti and Ne as top functions is like going to war with a big sword in each hand. The problem is that it's really hard to fight that way unless you are amazingly strong. If you have well developed Ti and Ne somehow you are a beast. Fe is also important to develop and an INTP really has to put in the effort there. I've found that it is more of a state of mind and a flow. Just blurt out how you feel about stuff, that's what ESFJ's do and they are the star of the party.
Very fascinating and thoroughly well done video! Over the last 10 years, I’ve mostly typed as an INTP, but the majority of INTP content doesn’t feel genuinely relatable - only ever just enough for me to say “I seem to be an INTP, but the jury’s out”. This is one of a handful of videos or posts that I’ve come across where I nearly 100% relate. Thanks! Initial long winded response to the video: Fe feels like a tool I’ve become good at using, or perhaps a weighted vest I’ve acclimated to wearing. However, I feel the need to relieve myself of the burden and relax at times. To me, the trouble comes in when I’m at the stage of beginning to get comfortable in a relationship where I find myself sometimes saying something insensitive or thoughtless, usually in the form of a joke, a simple comment intended to connect/relate, or some form of information (advice, feedback, unnecessary ideas). This is almost always immediately followed by feeling like I shouldn’t have said it, and being worried they were hurt and may hold it against me. This Low Fe weakness doesn’t show up as much in my closest relationships, perhaps because I’ve learned the other person fairly thoroughly that it doesn’t require me to use Fe as thoroughly to evaluate or anticipate their perspective and desires in a situation. Example being my wife - I rarely have notable Fe slip ups with her, I might have 1 notable one a year. In fact, in literally almost every fight, I know what she is thinking, feeling, and why, before she even tells me, like to the point that it shocks me how thoroughly consistent my track record is… she is beautifully consistent though, which makes it easier. The other INTP thing that seems to rub me the wrong way is how the relationship with Se is described. Personally, I’m quite active, not particularly awkward in physical space, and does care about or have a decent sense of things looking good/bad. I’ve found that I actually kind of enjoy “intense” situations, as long as I see it coming or am in a known or relatable environment (if it’s too new or uninteresting, I often pull back physically until I’ve evaluated the situation). Running in “highly undesirable” weather, shopping on Black Friday, taking calculated risks, fast paced sports. Any INTPs relate to any of this? Cheers!
I know that as an INTP myself I always love to play with the intricate dance of philosophy and theoretical physics. The interplay, or juxtaposition between these realms allow me to accrue many truths of the universe and nature.
Definitely agree on the artistic endeavors aspect. I feel like any art I've taken time to learn is simultaneously for artistic pursuits *and* for academic reasons, even if subconsciously. Photography is the mechanics of a camera and the science of optics. Music, especially drums, is rhythm and tempo, harmony Cartography involves geography, geology, meteorology, and many many subdivisions of Earth studies, all of which I've taken some amount of time to study to make more realistic maps. And then art can come out of academic subjects. e.g. Linguistics gives us orthography/writing systems which can be quite elaborate. When I first started delving into MBTI, at first I was hearing that INTPs are entirely more academic than artistic (the INFP and ISTP are the artists) and thought I may not be after all. This is definitely a commonly-overlooked aspect of our personality. Thanks for this video!
Actually I do genuinely consider this to be one type that needed some more attention, especially in terms of strengths, but yes some types do get more views than others!
It’s funny since I was a kid I felt this deep urge to “create.” It was almost like if I didn’t create something ever so often I’d go into what felt like a withdrawal or depression. I paint. I do woodwork. I sing. But I am a nurse. I’m in the field of science, a field I am deeply enamored by. They thought I was add as a kid, but I was bored and hated having to sit and obey when there were so many things out there to know! I still feel that way. I job hop because I get bored. Good thing I’m a nurse lol. I like school because it keeps my attention to a certain degree. I love to learn.
15:24 me, an entp also does this. First you build a framework, and then when you supposed to feel something, or supposed to communicate (good example trauma healing, source says you will heal trauma by sharing=you share trauma; or source says need to be radically honesty=you become radically honest), you can start to manipulate yourself to find your blindspots, and start to do trauma healing yourself. Just doing it to other people is not recommended (fi and ni are doomsday traits for the entp, therefore we love you Intp’s)
There is nothing more satisfying for me than creating a system that can be applied to everyday challenges, applying my methodology and actually getting results. More likely than not years of work have gone into researching a problem or problems from various angles, compiling notes, tracking patterns, keeping a detailed record of what works and what doesn't, running small experiments until finally, FINALLY, the day comes when you can take everything you've learned, put it all together into a cohesive approach and actually succeed in what you're trying to do. And that can take YEARS. But it is so worth it! To know that you put in all that effort and know the subject so well that if asked you could even teach it to someone else, which in my view is not only another role that INTP are extraordinarily well-suited for but a role I think at one point or another we tend to want to have.
is it INTPs the most likely type to be constantly doubting their type code? i feel like my mind is always analysing my type in second plan, which i understand to be the Ne getting information for Ti-Si analysis, but the Fe-Se descriptions of the INFJ are so accurate that i can't decide between the two types😂. Edit: Great video btw, i loved the way which you explained the oppositional Fe of INTPs to be extremely innofensive in general, in contrast some of the most common INTPs descriptions i found on internet is the cibernetic robot that just cares about the facts and logic and disgust people emotions, saying the truth no matter what😅.
In future videos could you give examples of what these types might do given a circumstance ie. Extraverted type would think of an idea to tell to their friend, while introverted type might try think of the idea with the end goal being to “figure out something interesting” instead of “place this thought into my external world for potential external reward”. Somethings I am specifically curious about are: The enfjwants to better their social prowess but the entj wants to make better themselves to make them happy, I agree with both but have the hypothesis that, it’s the ladder and te evaluation that being more useful in socially will make me happier, is there any way I can know which one for sure? Also what!s the difference between Ne and low attention span, and let’s say at a party, se would see maybe a specific group and bounce around, but would the ne type just instantly get the gist of what’s going on in the entire crowd? Sorry I wrote a lot, but I am honestly fascinated by your videos and was curious
Love this its inspirational to hear this. Been having trouble with being ghosted alot. Since Fe is a source of inferiority it makes me cautious when dealing with people i just met. Maybe too cautious to the point of awkwardness. I try to win approval and lose connection. Fe and ne in a convergent state can be very much joking and kidding around quite a bit in a social setting. For me its all about making people laugh even if it is at me. Sometimes i will say things on purpose that are not correct. Makes people feel smarter than you thus making them feel superior or coming up with funny ways to test or look at the realm of possibilities in peoples logic is always fun. What if this or what if that…. A child just told me i want to go to chuckie cheese and play games but i can not remember any of the games. I replyed how will you know you like the games. Immediately started saying something specific about a game that was there. I was thinking yeah….
Hi Harry! Hope you’ve been well. I sent this video to a friend of mine. We had a lengthy discussion several weeks back and I kept using “what if” scenarios to try and help him work towards overcoming some internal struggles. He asked me how I was able to do that and the only vague frame of reference I could give was that it was related to the cognitive functions of my personality type. I enjoyed the video, as I always do with your content. I felt particularly sheepish when you pointed out that INTPs are generally very polite around people they don’t know and tend to be quite blunt around people with whom they’re comfortable. This is particularly because in that same conversation I held with my friend, I was point blank blunt about certain things whereas I would be much less so when interacting with coworkers. Still working on strengthening Se (and making progress!). - Amanda
This is so accurate. I was typed as an ISTJ in university and always felt something was wrong. I recently typed myself as an INTP but got thrown off by all the stereotypical information I was reading and started to worry if I was really that socially inept. I am in the risk management field and I am also very creative. I do usually get along with people well. Love your video it has cleared up so much for me! I am an INTP!
Do you have any thoughts or insights on how ADHD or Autism can affect any of this? Would CPT incorporate those constructs in the theory, or is it sort of an external 'overlay' that affects the personality? I am certain I am INTP, including what you say here. But I also notice that I have met INTPs in type communities that DO network like you say, but this seems like a difficulty for me in particular, and I'm diagnosed ADHD, highly suspect Autism spectrum. Trying to come to an understanding on rectifying these.
I like to think of myself as INTP. I feel that the persistent use of logic (not exclusively, of course) is very helpful in the path to spiritual self-realization - a way of separating the wheat from the chaff in every facet of life.
As an engineer and computer scientist, I have been able to visualize solutions on a large scale, often to the point of stepping on my manager's or other toes. So I have frequently solved important design, analysis, or coding issues alone or with a *tiny* team. I learned that to keep my employment, I often have to accept bad decisions so the project/product could go forward. The bad decisions would often be exposed, and as a good INTP, I would just smile quietly to myself. This continues to this day. I remember my wife once read me a quote concerning the INTPs motto: "Lord, help me be less independent, but let me do it my way." The INTJ's prayer also applies: Lord, keep me open to others' ideas, WRONG though they may be.
8:04 This is how my life is. I realized life with just technicallity and without creativity isn't my natural habitat, neither is the other way around. I need both, a good combo of both. I need creative thinking. I think I successfully balanced both and I've never been more fulfilled once I learnt how to do it
Networking is usually easy for me for a short period of time. What I struggle with is being bored of small talk... and keeping these connections. It takes a conscious effort and some time of planning to ask a colleague out for a coffee ☕ intp
Harry, as always: thank you for the amazing and educational content! I know I appreciate your insights, very much! I wanted to quickly run this by you: I was thinking about the nature of "dip" functions (which, as far as I can tell: NO ONE else in the Typology Community has explained with any real potency, other than yourself, in my personal opinion), and how its nature differs from the dominant function. One characteristic that you've mentioned, and that many of us notice in the dominant function is that the usage of it IS AN END, IN AND OF ITSELF, in the Psyche of that individual. Satisfaction, eagerness, a natural energetic pull toward engaging in it, even if it's for the "sanctuary" qualities, or even familiarity aspects of it. I seem to notice that the "Dip Function" is NOT UNDERSTOOD BY THE INDIVIDUAL AS AN END, IN AND OF ITSELF. It's a foreign land, a mystery of sorts. Not because it's not obvious, or even recognized as important, but because it is bewildering and just baffling to the individual that it would be engaged in or "stayed in", simply for its own sake. Just because it is "enjoyable" to certain people. It just doesn't seem to make sense to them that anyone would "live there" (prefer to / automatically view the world through THAT lens). So, if you are interested, this ( th-cam.com/video/McRSjIhxf0U/w-d-xo.html ) is a video clip I found of an INTP (I think), wrestling with the obvious, yet baffling (to him) nature of introverted feeling (that he is observing in another individual). I enjoyed it; I hope you do, too! Thanks for helping me deepen my Typing skills (I hope, haha) ^_^
As an ENFJ with a highly active Si-Ti network I can compartmentalise and have a cohesive narrative running along side said possibilities- I find this highly curious. Nevertheless leaving something open ended does bother me somewhat or at least whenever people don't recognise the logical inconsistencies in their narrative; I'm like a logical inconsistencies detector!
Could you do one for INTJs strengths as well? I hope you are not insinuating that after my comment you have seen Ti convergence in me and thought that I'm an INTP. INTPs are really different from me. The Fe oppositional divergent function is highly sensible. More sensible than even Fi convergent auxiliary. I had an INTP with whom I talked and it blocked me just because I disagreed with his approach. But yes, my observations also fit with what you said. INTPs have a really good ability at systematizing but not in any way but simply flawlessly. My ability to systematize is area based. And also they have the ability to see the possibilities from the moment that a thread of logic occurs. While for me I have to go on that thread of logic and project it and see if there may be other possibilities. I have to basically follow that thread to see if there are other possibilities while for them they just see them from the first moment that such a thread occurs in the first place. They also have a pretty good ability to smooth social situations with Fe oppositional. Now depending on the INTP. The INTP that I dealt with was a highly Ni subauthority centered one with his own worldview and views on things and highly resistant to any external input. So he didn't use any Fe at all and blocked me. I felt out INTFed by him lol. I hope you will do one for INTJ strengths as well. BTW, nice video! PS: BTW, have you read my other comment?
I am INTP. I can relate to being polite with people I’m not comfortable with, I think I’m overly polite. I am very conscious not to be offensive and go out of my way to make the other person feel special or that I like them. But none of that matters, people still don’t like me. I don’t get it. But the ones that stick around long enough for me to feel comfortable with or ones that I feel comfortable with quickly, stop liking me because I’m so intense or not emotional enough or maybe I offend them without meaning to. I can even offend someone I think I’m giving a compliment to. Nothing I do matters.
idk how gender plays out in this (I am 19 male), but for the life of me i can't be anywhere near a person if for one hour we haven't gotten to talk politics!
I'm an INTP who IS socially inept. Or at least, social awareness has never come naturally to me, it's never been intuitive. However, I think that's because I'm autistic, and I don't think it makes me not an INTP, and perhaps non-autistic INTPs are more naturally socially adept. I think I'm probably less socially inept that I feel like I am, because of the fact that it isn't natural. I was totally oblivious to any kind of social atmosphere until I was about 20 years old, and only then started to consciously teach myself how to navigate social situations. Now that I'm in my 30s, I think that I might appear socially intelligent to other people at times, but I am still generally speaking feeling socially awkward and inept. Even simple things such as interacting with a cashier at a checkout, I have to consciously perform like a script to do it... and if it goes in a way that's not entirely familiar to me, I freeze easily. I cannot read between the lines or understand hints when I am a part of the social situation... However, when I'm an observer, or engaging with fiction, then I am able to, if not "read the room" per se, kind of constantly analyse a myriad of possibilities to it. When not a part of the interaction, I do automatically think up logical reasonings for people's behaviour, which others sometimes mistake as me excusing bad behaviour. Sometimes a friend just wants me to agree with them that yes, someone was a jerk towards them, but my instinct is to get into analysis of the reasons why the person being a jerk behaved the way they did, even when I consciously have taught myself to not express this when trying to stand up for a friend, etc. I relate to pretty much everything you say about INTPs (in this video and others) except the natural inclination to understand social situations. But like I mentioned, this is probably because I am autistic. But, what you said about INTPs around people they are close to vs. people they don't know as well... are you telling me that me being an INTP explains why I tend to be more insensitive with people I am close and comfortable with?! Because that's true. And I've never understood why. If I'm comfortable with someone (and I'm rarely comfortable with anyone), that is where I end up losing some filter some time, and slipping up with becoming more insensitive. Maybe now that I know why this might be, it's easier to work on not behaving that way. But that kind of blew me a little, when you mentioned it, since it's true for me and I've never related it to being an INTP before. It would make sense as a "dropping Fe when feeling comfortable enough to drop Fe" kind of a thing. Literally nearly everything else than a lot of the Fe related things, though, I just feel like someone is describing what it's like to be inside my mind better than I could describe it myself, watching your INTP content. You're wording things that are so natural for me that I've not even attempted to put them into words for a lot of it.
Thanks for the wonderful analysis. Besides the 5 top skills I've talked about your point about language skills was very on spot 👌 and that risk assessment skill is real :) although we might not live up to our observations and assessments :) and just leave them like that...in our minds
My test said infj but I think I swing between the 2. I think some of us are balanced between the t and f . I see shades of gray in everything I reason with logic and I feel emotion and compassion as I come to my conclusion. I can use both f and t. I would think most of us can. I am very introverted but sometimes can be extroverted when not feeling fear or anxiety as to what the topic is. My strength is always being me no matter the what the majority are doing, truth is my treasure as I dig and hunt looking for it in everything. I do not accept science as the truth for man can lie and manipulate science and so I am always looking for the hidden meaning or truth in everything. I question everything humans do and why we do it. I think intps are very curious people that are not satisfied with unproven answers or data. We need to know for ourselves and so we may be the people that stand up in a crowd and question the king or queen or leaders methods. We question everything and liars and wicked people don't like to be questioned and so they laugh and mock our questions. If that's not intp I guess I'm not an intp and just relate so much to the intp and the infj.
Um. I think I’m officially a cognitive functions hypochondriac. This week, I’ve watched too many videos, across too many types [not so much INTP cause typology betrayed me here] …and have heavily related to several - in multiple methodologies - and now I’m over here like… crap, will my results suggest I was an INTP all along? Cause this made the most sense;at least in this moment, and now I’m like…glitching internally here.
Thanks for a great video, as always you demonstrate that a type code is not a means of 'pigeon holing' people. I wondered if you could make an advice video on cognitive growth for ENTPs by the way, particularly in developing Se and Te; I feel like I can spend so much time and energy gathering abstract truths and principles, along with seeking to maintain/create a positive emotional atmosphere in my social circles, that I can become detached from the hard, concrete, physical practicalities before me and can fail to quickly take action based upon common sense. This is the sort of thing that affects me when I'm driving for example. Thanks a lot for any advice you have! Keep up the good work.
I know that's it's just an INTP video, but I need this to say to a most recent video made by Harry on this genuine channel We all know the problem about the innacuracy of the MBTI tests of any kind, and they are known for their very specific sentences and situations that a very few people have experienced and their lack of possibilities for choice. Worse are the tests with just 2 choices/3 choices and many are misunderstanding the questions because they need to imagine in a situation where they "are solving a conflict", which even I haven't gotten a chance once to do such a thing. But why not for these tests instead of very shallow question be put open-ended questions? These should show one's motivations, blind spots, strengths - what should show a personality test in general. And why not writing the answers through statements, sentences, instead through choosing not a so-much relatable answer to us? These answers can be selected by programs through thousands of possibilities of answering, all of them being labelled to one or more cognitive functions, because that's the specific way of typing somebody. The idea here is that one shouldn't be restricted to only some options to choose but writing his own answer to an open-ended question, no matter how many questions, just to be sufficient for fully understanding how the individual's mind works.
I have often thought this as the agree/often/disagree tests always formulate the questions in a way that make me unsure of what they actually mean. Leading me to feel the inaccuracy is because of my own interpretations. However, I think the reason why tests like you mentioned are rare is because of the scope of it (a lot of work and very complicated) and in terms of results, who would gather and analyse the long written responses? Would it instead be a Guided Self-assesment? Paying someone to analyse you? As soon as we include personal responses, it will be hard to get an accurate way to type it. Perhaps now with AI it would be much easier to execute what you mentioned and I would love to see better ways of testing. In the end though, I think someone’s personality is too complex that no test will ever fully capture it. It can help to communicate quickly to others how you are, but with all the type stereotypes it isn’t so quick anyways…🧐
Yea but with intp has their one ahelis feet thats converting all of these good ideas and acuallizing them and gaining confidance when we fall into Ti-Si loop of deth
Is it possible for intps to have better developed analytical thinking skills than logical thinking skills. Maybe might be the precise nature of ti through the lens of si. That seems to be the case for me. People describe intps as fountains of radical truth. For me I focus my ti on understanding first then judging true or false second. And that takes a long time.
I have a question. I still have internal dialogue while I'm interacting with a external medium, does this mean I'm proactive? Do I have to be able to fully disengage myself from any external mediums for a prolonged period of time to be classified as proactive?
Harry has a video comparing INTPs and ENTPs, you should check it out! In brief, I believe it comes down to the function attitudes-which pairs are used mainly convergently vs. mainly divergently. He’s got a video about that, too! I wouldn’t use apparent confidence or social extroversion to decide between the two. But you could consider cognitive introversion vs. extroversion to help decide if you’re already certain it’s between one type and the other.
@@alchemycarl thanks! I'll definitely check those videos comparing both of them to know it more deeply. Also, the introversion vs extraversion is definitely not dependant on social skills! I watched his videos about it and was kinda referring about the four sub types a cognitive type could have. But as you said, I better check those videos out to know everything specifically! Thanks again!
Divergent subtypes differ from their extraverted equivalent in function positions - Ti dominance is still a different beast from Ti authority, and an Fi blindspot is very different (and more convergent) from an Fi dominant dip :)
My cool guy comes out he acts realmaster i’ve been to 5xprison num. I developed the coolest persona really got out of my shell ll but fr fr honestly ,the front that put up is working so good, I’m stuck in a persona that I’m in love with cause I create it!! HHE SOO REAL! This I s dealing everything a1 but I will take to any level I decided and don’t tell my self cuz immma really smart !!
I’m so fucking confused. I’ve thought I was an entp but then lately I’ve questioned it because I think like an intp. I don’t know why this shit is so appealing to me and I don’t know why it annoys me so much that I can’t figure it out. I want to believe I’m an entp, and that bias makes me very uncomfortable. Maybe I find comfort in validating certain traits that I’m insecure about or maybe I just want an explanation for why I am the way I am. I don’t know, it’s been years since I’ve cared about this shit and I see one video and now i care again. I feel like an entp with social anxiety... ...how does neuroticism play into all of this? I’ve dealt with addiction and very bad anxiety and depression for the last 8 years. I’ve got 2 years sober and am finally getting my shit together and have no idea who I am. Maybe that’s why it’s so appealing. There’s a void that needs filling.
Hey, I have a question. What is the difference between an INTP changing from Ti Si to Ti Ni and an ISFJ changing their Si to Ni? Is it that the INTP would always have Ti in the pilot seat and the ISFJ would always have an experiential agenda, with Si/Ni in the pilot seat?
I'm a little confused with terms like "extremely precise," as to me, this would translate into such a microscopic view that you end up with analysis paralysis, forever calculating and recalculating the likelihood of all perceivable outcomes. If we're talking about theorycrafting game mechanics, than sure, but real life can be downright precision-avoidant.
I'd say extreme precision simply relies heavily on exreme fragmentation. You break mental objects to the point of getting the cores (something you can't break down anymore), define all the pieces, then rebuild an object to see it as a full system of other (smaller) objects. That's how you understand the objects in question, their traits and roles in relation to other objects and the full system. And then you just apply it to everything else as pretty much everything is an object or a system of objects or a system of systems etc. Having a cognition built for that makes you pretty good at that process but yes, it is as horrendously hyper-focused as it sounds and yes, sometimes it makes you wonder if you're going crazy. Then again, it's extremely pleasurable to just sit and read tons and tons of detailed info about something you really love. But I have to admit, understanding that in life you often can't have that schizo precision that your brain craves is pretty painful.
hey do you think its BS that people who want to be INFJS are not INFJS? or ppl who are INFJs want to be more of an INFJ, arnt actually a true INFJ? im really trying to figure out what people who study this things about that.
Due to childhood trauma & stuff, I've become a really socially-anxious person, feel really introverted. Once I get out of this anxious state, I think I become really ENFP'ish... But mostly I'm having high levels of anxiety... So is that why I feel like I'm INFP or even INFJ ? Or not?
I am an INTP and I have no idea what you are talking about, psychobabble and all. Any simplistic classification is doomed to dehumanize but that' s a matter of what you do with the system.
Do you have any videos that refute arguments that you are being a charlatan charging dearly for something unscientific? How do you usually refute these comments if they exist? Don't be offended by my question; she had only intended to be neutral.
The entire field here is very much an early science, and it is up to viewers to determine who is more credible in the field than others. Since CPT methodology involves a bit more work (I take additional days out to formulate a conclusion, providing a written analysis on top of a pdf), I simply charge in a way that reflects my hours of time investment. Some charge significantly more than I do, and I provide cheaper services to promote access :)
@@CognitivePersonality I understand. Thanks for the answer :D! Few would talk about it. Most just ignore this kind of question. Those who do seem to leave their intentions quite open. I believe the effort you put into your theories is something to take into account when considering their reliability. I'm quite new to the subject of cognitive functions and it's quite complex for me to understand so many new branches that come up, as I'm the type that needs to spend time processing new information, however, the interest remains! I want to trust, specifically, yours, as it is the one that seems most palpable in the findings themselves (it does not appear to be contradictory and its complexity attracts me). Do you have any tips on how I can understand all these abstractions a little more easily?
I hate being an INTP. I don't understand dating and romantic relationships for the life of me, and it seems that no one understands me. But hey, at least I'm a walking encyclopedia of useless information.
alex grace perfect channel for understanding women. focus on FE as well analyze those who are best at forming relationships with women, take whats useful discard whats useless. over time your experience through SI will allow you to act with proper FE.
The way you talk is like a scientific research paper verbalized. The words you use make no sense to the average person so this is why I always just click off your videos. I get it makes you look smart using big words and compact speech patterns but maybe you would get more views if you spoke in a way that more people could understand.
@@onimusha13 pfft. Whatever Fe dom. What do you suggest he does to make his videos more understandable then hmm? Any suggestions or do you have nothing because you think you might hurt his feelings?
@@BimmerWon Fe-aux for clarification. Anyway, presupposing that someone wants to come off in some way like looking smart is a 'mind reading' mechanism. Whereas people might actually do things in a such manner out of myriad other reasons like insecurity over their abilities or a desire for precision. The point is more often than not that such assumptions will get many people, but especially feelers on a defensive - many people really don't like to be assumed of something and some really hate it. If you want to do yourself a favour, you can learn how to write your advices in a more psychologically neutral manner and it will only be trully efficient in the long run regarding human dynamics.
I used to never leav the house excpt for school
Don’t worry, INTPs can be quite introverted but once in a social situation can actually find themselves being quite witty when they aren’t overthinking things.
INTJs are the real awkward ones; their sense of humor is often something only they themselves find funny.
My guess is that since INTPs use Fe, they’re actually going to be more socially aware and calibrated than someone who is an INTJ.
@@epicbehavior Why did you suddenly bring INFJ? Weren't you comparing INTP to INTJ? Typo?

I’m an INTP and I’m actually interested in poetic, creative writing, metaphors, and overall music and arts. So agreed.
Graphic and web designer here, yep INTP. You got it
Yeah, I liked this point as well!
We don't want to get to know other people we just want to understand why people are goofy
Precisely. Very well articulated.
@@sugarcravings1797 as an INTP myself im actually trying to get a job that involves handling with people just so i can learn about them.
Thanks for this in depth comment!
Keep doing both, then get a software gig in a foreign country. Make bank off the more valuable skill while enabling space for language learning.
Love your analysis. It helps me understand when I act or do the things I don't normally do. Sometimes I cannot even predict how I will act as there are too many possibilities under different circumstances..
Thank you, and yes, I guess that shouldn't surprise me!
Completely agree with this. I'm a cognitive ENFJ and consider Ti one of my strongest gifts.
CSJ has called us INTPs as the most caring of all the types. Which I agree with. And few see our depth of caring.

Could we have some more videos on the isfj, it's a type that constantly mistypes as the intp and infp.
Definitely!
Yes, I would definitely like that! I think I'm an ISFJ but I'm not sure.
Edit: I now think I'm an INTJ!
I agree with this assessment however it should not be understated that it is a long and difficult road to develop into a highly effective INTP.
Very fair
Thanks!
Initial long winded response to the video:
Fe feels like a tool I’ve become good at using, or perhaps a weighted vest I’ve acclimated to wearing.
Cheers!
i relate to the se stuff, fe i do but im just getting accustomed to it so we'll see in the future
Music, especially drums, is rhythm and tempo, harmony
Cartography involves geography, geology, meteorology, and many many subdivisions of Earth studies, all of which I've taken some amount of time to study to make more realistic maps.
Infinitely valuable ❤
Pumping intps for sure the best way to get views.
This video peered deep into the ghost in my shell. Almost made a robot cry.
Hah, great reference
In future videos could you give examples of what these types might do given a circumstance ie. Extraverted type would think of an idea to tell to their friend, while introverted type might try think of the idea with the end goal being to “figure out something interesting” instead of “place this thought into my external world for potential external reward”. Somethings I am specifically curious about are:
The enfjwants to better their social prowess but the entj wants to make better themselves to make them happy, I agree with both but have the hypothesis that, it’s the ladder and te evaluation that being more useful in socially will make me happier, is there any way I can know which one for sure?

Hey Amanda! I was recently wondering how you were getting on - glad to hear the Se is continuing to grow :)
Perfect timing. Gonna add these to my resume
Excited to know the INTP subtypes too
very intersting.. hope its going to be a series :)
Hey Nina - in one way or another it will be :)
Your insight is unique. Bravo!
the Fe flow analysis here is second to none!

Thank you! Please ESFJ strengths video next! :)
Thanks! I wouldn't consider you an INTP :)
And for sure will do INTJ at some point too
The video helps me wrtting my soft skill in my resume. thanks bro
Thanks for the wonderful analysis.
Besides the 5 top skills I've talked about your point about language skills was very on spot 👌 and that risk assessment skill is real :) although we might not live up to our observations and assessments :) and just leave them like that...in our minds
pleasee make more intp videos. i love your intp videos.
Yes! Me too!
WORD! Shhh
Could you discuss specifically the INTP viewpoint of achievement? How does the objectivity of 'success' affect INTPs?
gets rid of FE fears in my experience.
I know that's it's just an INTP video, but I need this to say to a most recent video made by Harry on this genuine channel
We all know the problem about the innacuracy of the MBTI tests of any kind, and they are known for their very specific sentences and situations that a very few people have experienced and their lack of possibilities for choice.
Hi, Harry. Can you please do "5 signs you're not an ESTP"?
Is it possible for intps to have better developed analytical thinking skills than logical thinking skills.
Maybe might be the precise nature of ti through the lens of si.
That seems to be the case for me.
People describe intps as fountains of radical truth.
For me I focus my ti on understanding first then judging true or false second.
And that takes a long time.
Great video!
I have a question. I still have internal dialogue while I'm interacting with a external medium, does this mean I'm proactive? Do I have to be able to fully disengage myself from any external mediums for a prolonged period of time to be classified as proactive?
Harry, what would be the main difference between a very confident INTP and a more introverted ENTP? Thanks in advance! And have a great day!
I developed the coolest persona really got out of my shell
ll but fr fr honestly ,the front that put up is working so good, I’m stuck in a persona that I’m in love with cause I create it!! HHE SOO REAL! This I s dealing everything a1 but I will take to any level I decided and don’t tell my self cuz immma really smart !!
GREAT VIDEO
Thanks Jared!
Could you make a comparison video for Intj vs Intp? How they work?
Harry Hi! I used to watch your channel a year or two ago
Answer my question.... What is MBTI thing for? Self-actualization? How? Plz explain.
Thanks for the video
Do INTPs and ISFJs tend to have the same emotional predictive capability as ENTPs?
What kind of monster do you have to be to disike cuddles and kisses?
Hey, I have a question. What is the difference between an INTP changing from Ti Si to Ti Ni and an ISFJ changing their Si to Ni? Is it that the INTP would always have Ti in the pilot seat and the ISFJ would always have an experiential agenda, with Si/Ni in the pilot seat?
Exactly, the auxiliary axis is more fluid owing to the influence of the sub-authority, so INTPs are more Si-Ti dynamic and ISFJs more Ti-Fi dynamic
@@CognitivePersonality Thank, glad to see my understanding is good.
when you study personality types, all its elements and still question, if your an intp.lmao
Pleas do a video for subtypes of intp
I'm a little confused with terms like "extremely precise," as to me, this would translate into such a microscopic view that you end up with analysis paralysis, forever calculating and recalculating the likelihood of all perceivable outcomes. If we're talking about theorycrafting game mechanics, than sure, but real life can be downright precision-avoidant.
The Si aux tends to only come down hard of areas of hyper interest so that adds up!
The best way to know if you are an intp or not is that if you watch this guy's videos. Lol
hey do you think its BS that people who want to be INFJS are not INFJS? or ppl who are INFJs want to be more of an INFJ, arnt actually a true INFJ? im really trying to figure out what people who study this things about that.
Im an intp i did the test many times
So accurate!
Due to childhood trauma & stuff, I've become a really socially-anxious person, feel really introverted. Once I get out of this anxious state, I think I become really ENFP'ish... But mostly I'm having high levels of anxiety... So is that why I feel like I'm INFP or even INFJ ? Or not?
Looking very sensual in this one 😲
The INTP is everybody's favorite
INTPs are Goats
Would you say most INTP's are in reality mistyped ISTJ's?
Not most but there's definitely a big chunk!
@@jhinthevirtuoso4886lol what if they ARE a woman?
The way you talk is like a scientific research paper verbalized. The words you use make no sense to the average person so this is why I always just click off your videos. I get it makes you look smart using big words and compact speech patterns but maybe you would get more views if you spoke in a way that more people could understand.
who hurt you
@@onimusha13 I’m just offering constructive criticism. Take it or leave it.
@@BimmerWon You're really spitting venom and posing it as a constructive criticism. People like you are so predictable.
