Traded my sony a7 iv with the 28-70 kit len, Batis 85mm and 24-105 f4 for the lumix s5 IIX with the 20-60mm and 50mm bundle with £100 left over. This is the most complete camera I’ve ever used and this is coming from Canon M50, Fuji xs10, xt4 Sony a7 iv and now this. It’s weather sealed and has ACTIVE COOLING. Phenomenal value.

It is a great camera! I'm glad someone else also moved away from Sony 🤣
I do feel like Panasonic get overlooked at times. They're better than most manufacturers in my opinion.

@@tedcruzinusa It crops at 4k/60p and it cant do 120fps at 4k. So it doesnt have two 2 things I would want for sport and wildlife videography. So I will stick with MFT for the moment because its cheaper and can do the same(when the picture is cropped anyway). I wouldnt want the S7SIII, I had a sony camera in the past and for me the sony user interface is close to unusable, the panasonic interface also complex, but intuitive and easy to use, a real plus

This was well done. Fun and entertaining to watch. While I only do photography - and did so professionally for a number of years - I felt so unbelievably satisfied when I finally graduated to the Canon 5D Mark IV. I got it in mid-2017, bought about $6K worth of off-camera lighting gear, and shot 50+ weddings, many events, senior photos that included hiking camera and lighting gear into the mountains, shot real estate, traveled with it around the world to probably 20 different countries, and never had the slightest hint of GAS while owning this beauty and top-of-the-line Canon lenses. Freaking amazing camera and I didn’t give a whit about the specs of any cameras released in the interim because I was able to create what I wanted to create and loved the aesthetics of my gear.
Now that I’m doing work in a completely different field, I didn’t need or want such large gear - especially for future travel - and all my research led me to buy an OM-5. I was straight up blown away at the image quality. The color science is beautiful (and I never thought I could like anything other than Canon color), and the noise performance of this little sensor spectacularly exceeds the Mark IV noise performance. Just wow.
BUT…. There were many other things that were difficult to adjust to, so I sent it back to Amazon and ordered an OM-1. Amazing AI (machine learning) tracking but the stupid thing can’t reliably focus on S-AF even in medium low light. If you buy an OM-1, buy it for moving subjects (or high-contrast stationary subjects in bright daylight).
Anyway, I sent it back and reordered the OM-5. Ugh!!! Thankfully it’s aesthetically pleasing. After the pain and time wasted selling off my lovely Canon gear and changing back and forth, I’ve decided I can live with my nitpicks of the OM-5. But I feel your pain. I was 100% satisfied with the Mark IV until my needs changed. I didn’t think it would or should be too hard to switch to another system and feel the same 100% satisfaction. But it can be so damn hard to find something that you love so much that you stop looking at other gear (for 6 years in my case when I had the Mark IV!!).

Yes I feel your pain! Things were much simpler when we just had to choose between Canon and Nikon 🤣 The 5D was the ultimate goal, nothing else really mattered, so you'd just build up your lens arsenal in the hope that one day you could upgrade to the 5d and all was pretty simple.
Now there is far too much choice, far too much time spent on specs that don't really matter and less time spent on perfecting elements that do.
Anyway thanks again for the support and I hope you find peace with your OM system 😂

totally enjoyed your GAS journey honestly and totally understand your reasons behind the switches , I my self had a Canon 7d as my first DSLR camera bought it at launch date back in 2009 i loved and enjoyed using it and as you said it sure can take a beat and then some am a commercial airline co-pilot so logging it with me for every layover around the globe did yield me some amazing images with it its just got so heavy to carry , so since I was mostly enjoying street photography when am in a new town and wanted something low profile and light to carry decided few years back to get me a Sony RX100m6 which was the latest at that time and have honestly enjoyed and loved the images it can capture despite its small 1 inch sensor , but after the years passed by and since i mostly do stills with the rx100 cause it does over heat quickly when you shoot in 4k i was craving something bigger and better and honestly as i was in rush to buy me anything i spent lots of hours and hours watching TH-cam videos and finding all about the cripple hammer of each camera in every system which just made the buying decision grow longer well that til the lumix s5iix came by and it just appeared perfect in everyway so i just knew this is going to be my camera and finally pulled the trigger and oh what a jump it was from the 7d to this one , shooting videos and taking picture with it is so seamless and enjoyable and fun and it just makes me hit the streets in every trip just to enjoy shooting with it , as for the lenses I've been hunting some good deals on eBay and mpb since i didn't had any l mount lenses and here is what i got me so far ,

Every time you switch brands, you learn. You learn about yourself as a photographer or videographer, you learn about what's important for you and what characteristics of your equipment aren't so important.
I hate Sony, i bought Sony because it was "better" but I never enjoyed shooting with Sony. Now I'm in Nikon, but watching closely what happen with Panasonic, i use manual lenses and the stabilization in the Panasonic cameras is the best...

Lumix makes more sense to me than all the others, at least for hybrid stills/video cameras. The S5 IIX and the G9 II are virtual siblings. The differences are basically no fan in the G9 II, and the Micro 4/3 sensor, with better IBIS, slightly better AF, and faster frame rates. You lose almost two stops of dynamic range, gain an increase in depth of field via shorter lenses, and the G9 II may overheat in extreme circumstances due to the lack of fan. But at least Lumix has TWO sensor formats in two nearly identical bodies that do most of the same exact things, otherwise. They LISTEN to their customers, put controls where they belong, and make solid, reliable gear. Welcome to the fold.

    • @TheCreatorsBlock

Yeh I agree. I do like the idea of the M4/3 system for all its benefits, but I do prefer that Full Frame look. Call me a bokeh snob 😂

@@hamzajamshed7399s5ii is the best hobby camera for handheld shooters and best color quality outta the box. its wayy easier to use but unreliable autofocus and rolling shutter is not great for professional jobs. Not the best option for sports or fast tracking especially if you plan on walking away from the tripod. Sony is a better pro cam because of higher picture quality in all frame rates with no crop and better eco system for multicam setup, more lens options. The only disadvantage is the upfront cost and maybe a gimbal to match the s5ii stabilization.

For the same reason you didn't enjoy the A7S3, I stopped taking photos. Now with the a7iv, sure, the video isn't quite as "nice", don't know how to describe it, but the photos are lightyears better. @@TheCreatorsBlockI was actually trying to decide between the s5iix and the a7iv quite recently, but I decided to stick to Sony because of the larger selection of glass (native) as well as the large thirdparty market for that mount/body. I was a Nikon D750 for 9 years shooting mainly 50fps 1080p, Ive now moved to the A7R5 with one lens, it's the Tamron 20-40mm. I shoot for social media accounts and event companies. I thought I was going to shoot 4K but have stayed at 1080p but now at 100fps. At first I didn't like the A7R5 because it was more complex than my D750, but now I love it, it's setup just right for me.

Loved the vid, loads of fun. Thanks. Just one main point came to mind, if I may: get great glass (lenses) and stick with those no matter what camera system you use/change to. I just shot a feature film on the original S5. I've loved Lumix since the GH4, but will never go back to m4/3. As you say, 16 to 35 on a full frame camera---who knew how wide 16mm really is !!! I could shoot a feature in a shoe box. Any road up, I still use my expensive, excellent quality, and built like a tank Canon glass. Generally glass is the biggest investment and the difference is massive. Lastly, in terms of changing systems, and especially with Sony in mind: I didn't even bother to upgrade my S5 to an S5 II X, BUT, now Sony have come out with a "Full Frame" "Global Shutter"...oh man. I know Lumix use Sony sensors anyway, so I am just hoping they grab some of those and put them in the very very delayed release of the S1H II. A "global shutter" S1H II, might get my hand back in my pocket.

Yes I completely agree, investing in lenses is key! And to be fair I am loving the Panasonic lenses! I have the 24-105 which is just sooo nice, plus the 50 & 85 f1.8 lenses and they are excellent! Especially their lack of focus breathing! So much better than any Sony lens I've tried and they don't need any software or crops to help.
Yes! Global shutter is game changing! However for me, internal ND's in a mirrorless body is what I really want! Global shutter is nice, but other than rolling shutter, I'm not that eager just yet. I can wait 🤣

I shoot video so I don't pixel peep in the same way a stills photographer would but watching the deformation of boke balls in zooms with such a wide range, such as 24-105, is an easy give away to the compromises being made with that kind of lens. 16-35 or 24- 70 are about as wide a range I will work with on a zoom, but that is for feature film work where you might want to go that extra mile. Global shutter is a big deal for action sequences, or any moving object in the shot, so it's a pretty big deal. As regards ND's, surely there is a "digital" fix for this, either in camera or in lens. It's just sunglasses for god's sake. Digi ND could be a great new innovation, some hybrid of ISO. . @@TheCreatorsBlock

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock  ปีที่แล้ว

Yeh I did have the 24-70 on my Sony and loved it, especially being f2.8. But this time I've gone for more versatility. I don't shoot feature films or sports so for me this lens is great. It all depends what you shoot I guess. But yeh, global shutter is fantastic and would be game changing for sports etc. And correct me if I'm wrong but would it also eliminate flicker from lights? If so then that's incredible. But like I said, I can wait for that. For me having to take an ND filter off everything I need to go from outside to inside or for when I want to switch between video and photo is just soo annoying and slows me down. So either a mechanical or digital ND would be appreciated by me 🤣

    • @charliemcgrain
      @charliemcgrain ปีที่แล้ว

Totally agree on all. I shoot V-log, it has a minimum ISO of 640. So, you can't shoot anything in daylight without heavy ND filters. And, I can't get critical focus without a larger monitor. And, I can't get 6k RAW without the Ninja, which I love, but, these cameras have go to be rigged out. That said, once you are set up you are getting an image that stands next to a 70k Alexa. You're right, but everything he said about Sony is 100% spot on. They have the best AF by far, but their hybrids are just not enjoyable to use compared to others, especially Lumix. The fact that they're still making brand new hybrids that overheat at the drop of a dime during video is just... INSANE!
Now that Lumix has figured out PDAF, there's really no reason for anyone to wanna switch back anymore. I'm right there with him, 100%.

@@Studiotek Sony have a bigger cripple hammer than Canon do. They also don’t provide software updates and just put all their efforts into the next iteration. They also seriously cripple their g lenses so if you want a small and light lens you will have to get a sigma contemporary or samyang … Colour science is much better now but if you want to get into cine cams… the colour science straight out of camera is light years behind Blackmagic and red, and fairly short of lumix. Yes you can grade s-log with the colour chart… but with Blackmagic and red you can literally just skip that step. Why? Because Sony want to cripple and protect their Venice and Burano line. Don’t buy and fx3/6/9 unless you are using them as b cams with your burano/venice where you have the gm lenses. Everyone else should stay away from Sony. Zv-e1 looks okay because it is cheap, but then you have the crippled g lenses again 😂

I think we should be `widely You Tubed,' now and get many different points of view. But one can never know enough unless one uses the thing for themselves and find out what works or not for them. Yeh unfortunately I haven’t been able to try the fx3. It was an intriguing camera at its release but I also didn’t fully understand its purpose to be honest. I don’t feel like the fx range truly deserves the ‘cinema’ camera title. The FX6 is a whole other animal and the fx3 and fx30 seem like pretend cinema cameras to me. And the fact you can get the same camera but with a viewfinder and better photography features confuses me a bit. Sony have too many of the same camera, but with tiny differences. So yeh, if they came with built in ND’s or something then yeh that would set them apart a bit more.
I just like having a hybrid style camera for my line of work. But I get how the built in cage features of the fx range can be very advantageous for more video focused users.

I think Sony’s are generally quite over sharpened which is probably why. Dynamic Range I would say is very similar, I don’t think I can choose one to be honest.
Rolling Shutter, the a7siii is brilliant at compensating for this in video. I think it has a much faster read out speed. Which is understandable considering it’s more of a flagship camera. But so far the S5iiX is doing well for rolling shutter but I don’t think I’ve put it to the test fully yet.
      I hope that helps!

Yeh, so I'm glad you picked up on what this video was about. It wasn't about promoting the S5iix over Sony, it was about finding a system that you find fits you best (albeit mine was a very costly journey 🤣). And if the a7iv is a better fit for you then it makes more sense to stick with one system that can share lenses, accessories and also will match up better in post.
As for the AF in the Lumix, I find it works very well, pretty much on par to my old a7siii, but that camera is over 2 years old now and Sony has definitely made huge improvements since, so I can't compare to the IV or even the new ZV-e1 with all the AI stuff. So yeh if you're struggling with the S5ii then it would make sense to have two bodies of the same system that fits you best.
Software I jump about a bit, I use both Final Cut and Premiere Pro. This was edited in Premiere, but I think I prefer FCP overall.

      @GolfRambo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's one of the reasons I'm still sticking to my A7IV at the moment. I do both photography and videography. I tested out the S5ii to see how it was. Borrowed some lenses from a friend and tried using it at an actual event. The auto-focus has improved, but I found myself missing shots that I never had an issue of getting with my A7IV. The camera will just start hunting for focus out of nowhere.
For video, I will say the S5ii is absolutely fantastic. It is more enjoyable than the Sony, but both suck when it comes to rolling shutter. I shot both in LOG profiles and didn't really find that big of a difference between the two. Maybe the Sony had better dynamic range, but couldn't tell the difference. If Panasonic can fix their focusing issues, I might consider them. I will manual focus, but when shooting weddings, having auto-focus is a must.

This is funny because I took the same trek but without Sony. I was ping ponging between Panasonic GH to Canon to Fuji to Leica to Panasonic S1, S1R, S1H to Canon and now purchased the S5iix. Not fun in the wallet but I've always found the Panasonic cameras fun to shoot and they have a lot of fun features that the other cameras don't have. The only other camera I have is the BlackMagic 6K FF which I only purchased because I didn't need to add additional equipment. It is L-Mount which I have a bunch of lenses now, I have V-mount batteries because BlackMagic batteries don't last long. I already had CFast cards and the camera has a 1.6 squeeze factor built in which matches perfectly with my Sirui 1.6 anamorphic lens set. I shoot everything else on the Lumix and I'm already saving for the second version of the S1R which I'm sure will have at least a 60mp sensor for photos. I do love the photos coming out of the S5iix though so maybe I'll re-think that.

    A switching story short way:
    sony HDR-fx1
    Canon 7D
    Canon 5D mk2
    Sony a6500
    sony a7III
    Canon R
    Canon R5
    Sony A7 IV
    and a few weeks ago
    Nikon Z8
    What did I learn?
There is ALWAYS a better camera, and if you think that is not, it will show up tomorrow.
So I wrote all my needs on the piece of paper (including enjoyment of use, lens I need, what I will use it to, not spec only) and checked which camera offered it all to me. It narrowed to 2 cameras. Nikon Z8 and Canon R5C.
Then I took the one which felt better in hand. Today I am happy with Z8, tomorrow.... he he he

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That's quite the back catalogue 🤣
That z8 keeps making an appearance in the comments! I might have to give that a try sometime.
Yeh I agree there will always be a better camera, but it's finding the right system where those cameras will progress with you in a way that keeps you engaged. I'm hoping I've now found my system of choice and any future Lumix camera will keep me interested. So far all this AI and global shutter stuff that Sony are doing, isn't swaying me in the slightest.
Waiting for an internal ND... Hoping Lumix will introduce that.

@@TheCreatorsBlock Cameras for me are tools, I am ok with changing them if they don't do what I need. I am not really into any company, I was a Canon fanboy a long time ago but I realised one important thing. None of these companies cares about me, they only want to sell me their product, no more no less.
Z8 works for me for now, I record long-time content for 1.5-2 hours and do photography. Nikon does it well. (I recorded 2h 4k 30fps H265 N-Log, no overheating) Ergonomy is good (I prefer R5 but there is 30 min record limit)
I thought about S5II and this camera was on my list, but I just like to have a 45mp sensor.
In my opinion, I don't need to grow with the system, the system has to grow to serve my needs. When I work and I don't think about what I keep in my hand, just concentrate on my subject, then I know that I have the right tool in my hand.
      And about what you mentioned:
AI, not much we can do about it, we just have to learn how to live with it. It will not stop.
Sony's global shutter - a great thing, but do I need it? No. The Z8 sensor read is fast enough. I don't need 120fps and I think only a few people need it. And more importantly, technology is not ready yet. A9III global shutter is coming with a big price, and I don't talk about money. The minimum ISO is 250. the dynamic range went down 2 stops compared to A9 II. If you make money by shooting sport, that's a great camera, anything other... not really.
Lumix does a great job, S5Ii gives us an amazing tool when you compare the price to what you have in it. I think it's a better deal than Nikon Z8. I used some Panasonic in past but mostly camcorders, so I didn't put it them on my list. If you looking for an internal ND, I don't think it will happen soon. Sony and Canon have their cinema lines which have everything needed for professionals. Internal ND, connectivity, modules. I think there is no business for them to bring this to cameras. To many people would lost their need for cine equipment. (I can be wrong of course and it is only my opinion)

Hi, I've been seeing reviews of this camera. I'm about to take a giant step by changing from a t6i to this model. I have finally decided. I would like you to advise me regarding lenses, since I mostly do street and documentary photography, including portraits and landscape photography, as well as occasional videos. What lenses do you think could work? The 24-105 caught my attention with an adapter, but I would like to know the opinion of someone who has experience in this world. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.

    • @TheCreatorsBlock
      @TheCreatorsBlock  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you! Appreciate the support 😊
Yeh so if you’re coming from a t6i I would think any of the latest mirrorless cameras will be a massive step up for you and you will be impressed by how far everything has come!
As for lenses with the Lumix, this is just me, but I am trying to stick with the Panasonic lenses. Mainly because Panasonic are new to Phase detection and my thinking is their lenses will work the best. I don’t have any evidence of that, just my thinking. Plus their lenses tend to have excellent focus breathing compensation and image stabilisation built in. Making them more desirable for me. So for me I have gone with the 24-105 Panasonic lens as my main driver. And it is pretty fantastic. But I would also highly recommend the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 which I used to have for Sony and it is an amazing all round professional lens that you could do so much with.
Again this is just me but I have always stayed away from adapting other lenses simply because they tend to never work as well as native lenses do. But some love adapting lenses as it allows them to expand their options past what is directly available in that particular lens mount.
So it’s hard for me to recommend or tell you what you should get. I’d recommend trying to hire or borrow these lenses and give them a try. Because what works for me may not be the best option for you.
      I hope that helps!

Hopefully this TH-cam channel gets monetised at some point to help out 😂 It’s expensive running a YT channel!
I’ve never tried Pentax if I’m honest so I couldn’t really compare. Although I don’t hear much about them so I assume they’re not one of the more successful brands?
So if you’re wanting to move away from Pentax, you can’t go wrong with either Sony or Lumix really. It depends on what your priorities are. Lumix are very video centric, so for photography they tend to be slower, less burst rates etc. Whereas Sony have a body for all different use cases. But Lumix do have better usability, body design, button placements and features in my opinion, especially for video and things like timelapse.
Nikon, erm yeh, they for some reason have never appealed to me at all. I feel they’re always behind, copying other brands and always being late to the party. But I think they do have great kit, but just not for me I don’t think.
What are your thoughts on Canon btw? I started with them obviously which is probably why I don’t particularly favour Nikon 🤣
But Canon have great gear too and seem to be inventing new stuff all the time and pushing new boundaries.
It all comes down to what you shoot really. Video, hands down Lumix or Sony. Photography Canon or Sony in my opinion.

I have the 12G video assist which means I can record in MOV, MP4, ProRes, or BRAW. This way I can keep everything in the BRAW eco system, using mostly L-mount lenses. @TheCreatorsBlock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Ooo that's a very difficult question for me to answer to be honest. Like I said in the video, it's very personal and what you find more comfortable and enjoyable to use. Both ecosystems are fantastic, and both will allow you to start as a freelance filmmaker. So maybe you need to either rent both and see what you prefer using OR look at the lens options for both systems. Even look at the accessories for each system and see what appeals to you the most. For example the E-mount has a plethora of lens options, with many available second hand at a bargain price. Sony also has amazing wireless mic options for use on the hot shoe. They also have more professional cinema cameras that share the same mount. All these things could be important to you. OR Lumix, who have the L-mount with access to Leica glass, along with arguably the best colour science and their cameras tend to have more professional features at a much lower cost, such as shutter angle, waveforms, more codecs etc.
So yeh, sorry haha, there are benefits to both! I would mainly recommend you try both and see which you prefer. You can rent them, Lumix also at the moment allow you to borrow their cameras for a limited time, like a 'try before you buy' option which is pretty cool.

Yes the start up time is a bit annoying. But I do find after the initial start up, any additional start ups tend to be much much quicker. It’s only if I leave it for a few hours without powering on that it takes time to get going. But yes, annoying nonetheless.
The Sony a7siii I still use on a daily basis for work and, yes, there have been quite a few issues. The main one being a complete shutdown after only 50% battery usage. Also failure to focus at all when using a flash trigger (not all the time, but it means I need to keep retrying the shutter to get the focus to lock, very annoying). It never ends my friend and unfortunately only you can make the choice. I feel your pain! 😂

I’m at 3 different system now, which having the camera is not bad, but when you have to start choosing lenses, it can make you cry😂. But I think I’m sticking with Sony for photos, and Panasonic for video.

    I switched to S5IIX - it´s the best hybrid camera i used.

What about the single memory card? What happen when things go wrong?

Single memory card for what? The LUMIX has twin cards.

    Similar experience to yours.
I bought an R50 from Canon in November... gave myself it as a present for later. Enjoyed it for the past little while... But , I wanted full frame...so I order a speed booster...got a sigma lens, then just sobered up and realized:
Hey dummy, you're chasing VIDEO, you love cinematography & photography. Cut your losses, return the lens, throw the R50 on ebay. It's struggling to attain the look you want. Lumix, will not. Sony will not... etc.
Pooling everything together is $1200 off from this camera... so...
Yeah. For an artist/art teacher buying their first camera I think I am going Lumix and sticking with it.
I should have: read more. BUT, I also think people shouldn't be too hard on themselves. If you and your loved ones are taken care of, you're financially relatively able to afford it...Ehhh....sometimes that's just a hobby. Keyboards, Airsoft, hell even in the art world, there's USED stuff for a reason. People impulse buy, and G.A.S. is real.
TRYYYYY to mitigate it as much as possible fellow nerds.
Find the images/video you love. Find out how to achieve that, and then go from there. Do not force a tool to do something it struggles to do, including yourself and wallet. ( Now time for me to take my own cringey advice lol )

I' switched back and forth to see the sony vs lumix image, sony is much better! Better colours, better autofocus and all of these are obvious inside this video 😇.

Autofocus perhaps is Sony's biggest strong point, they have nailed it and continue to improve it for sure. However the actual look and colour science, I have to again disagree. It is very nice and I have got amazing footage with it, but I feel more work is needed to achieve that. Whereas Lumix just looks more pleasing to me and their vlog is so much better to work with in post. It's all subjective though, there's no real right answer.

@@TheCreatorsBlock i will only say that ok, the color is mostly a personal preference and there is no standart on that, it is mostly based on personal preference. :)
