This video is 4 years old so this comment will probably be irrelevant but we always used to play this video for our black lab named Junior. He’d always howl and bark and it was the funniest thing. Unfortunately he passed away last spring but this video brings me back to those days when he was making us all laugh :)
This comment made my day man, I am sorry for your loss but I am thrilled to know that this video brings you some happy memories. I had a dog several years ago that has since passed on who would howl at the theme song to a specific tv show...every time I hear it now it brings me straight back to those days. I get a lot of comments about people playing this video for their pets and it always makes me laugh to imagine how many dogs have howled in front of a screen at this pack of coyotes.
It amazes me how three or four coyotes can sound like 50 in the dark when you can't see them. There is usually only one truly howling. The rest either bark or yip. That is why it sounds like more.
I have read that they use a technique to throw their voices off objects around them to make predators think there is a large pack when there may be only a few.
This is part of their pack mentality and behaviour actually, coyote packs are smaller than Wolvesz therefore they use short and constant howling and movement to appear to have the numbers.
I was in Scouts for eight years. On a dark night in the Appalachian Mountains, a pack of coyotes checked out our campsite for a solid hour. Seeing their glowing eyes in the dark and hearing their howling was quite possibly the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me.
@@jonathanmurillo537 They we’re probably sniffing around, looking for food that had been left out. I’m no biologist, but I’m fairly certain the howling can either be a marking of territory or communication between members of a pack.
@@jonathanmurillo537coyotes won't hunt people, they're scavengers so they likely were just looking for food or being curious. They howl/yip etc to communicate and often to "celebrate" a successful hunt. It's why we call it "singing" 😊 they're nothing to be afraid of 99.9% of the time
When I first heard them outside my house I thought there was a bunch of drunk women cheering, but then more started joining in all out of sync and I knew what I was hearing was not human
I hike canyons near me in So. Cal. at dusk and have heard this. On one occasion there were two groups on either side of the trail I was on. Sounded like about 5-6 in each group. I didn't see them (although I do see coyotes often) but I heard them. It was still a ways to my car and there was no one around but the girl I was with and it was terrifying as fuck. Makes you want to run but that can trigger them to chase.
I live in Connecticut. You can hear them in the distance at night, somewhere in the woods. They've killed dogs in surrounding neighborhoods. Don't let your pets outside at night.
As terrifying as that would be, I remember reading that if you hear the animals then that means they're likely not hunting you since they're giving away their location, and that the true sound of terror and danger out in the wild is total silence. I've rarely been in the wilderness though so I have no idea!

I like how they howl at sirens. Every dog in the neighborhood does it and somehow it's funny to me that these wild animals have the same reaction, "something's making a loud noise so let's all scream at it"

I beg the differ, my buddy and I were tent camping up in Maine and as soon as we stared cooking some hot dogs, 2 or 3 wolves started howling, if I had to guess probably 50 or so yards away from us, we damn near made a mess in our pants

Thought it was my brother pulling my leg so I threw my boot in the general direction only to hear a canine yelp and something scrambling. I quick got up and looked and saw a pack of five or six timber wolves in the camp in the moonlight. I started blowing my ultrasonic whistle and they all took off. I think they were just curious. Checked in the morning and sure enough lots of sign around all the tents, prints as big as my hand.
I’m so glad I called my dog into the house when I heard this. I had no idea this was what I was hearing but something about it made my gut go everywhere.
Usually there is 10 or less and if your lucky there is around 15, but 20 or 30? Jeez plz tell me you are exaggerating a bit if not then that is a lot of poop to pick up in ur yard
The howls make them sound like there are a lot more than there are. Like there are four in this video but it sounds like 15. I could not tell you why. You probably had around 10 near you
Came to this video cause this just happened to me. Heard what sounded like 20 of the bastards right outside my front door, looked out the window, didn't see them, but they were loud as all hell. Went to check if my mom heard them, talked for a bit, went back to the window, and a coyote was standing right in the middle of the street, staring me dead in the eyes. I don't even live in a super rural area, I'm in a rich neighborhood with lots of walls and parks, and these bastards managed to get right outside my house.
Their pups howling in the spring are the cutest things ever. They kind of take turns and go at it for several minutes at a time. An ambulance just went by and it caused the coyotes in the woods behind me to start howling, came here to remind myself what they were.
The same thing happened to me last weekend. I live in Murrieta, California, behind my backyard lays a golf course, and we get coyotes and rabbits wandering around every night. But it was my first time hearing coyotes howling at a police siren.
I just heard this an hour ago in the middle of the woods at the ravine in town on a early morning jog with my German Shepherd... she's always acting tough around squirrels and rabbits but when we heard this sound we stopped, looked at eachother and took off 🤣
I heard one howling about 30 mins ago across from the house on the hillside. It was first time I've ever heard them howling! It was so beautiful! It snowed here tonight, and standing in my doorway listening to them across the white fields was just magical!!! 💞❄🌬🌨
@diego tequila lol thats definitely a fake story. In the history of TIME, theres only been two recorded human fatalities of coyotes killing humans on record. Like EVER. There have been something like 300 overall coyote attacks on humans ever and half of those are in california. Theyre more afraid of humans than we are of them.

Anaïs that’s how it is where I live, I live smack in the middle of the Sonoran Desert and they’re everywhere they cause us so many problems because visitors feed them so they became super bold they will snatch a dog on a leash and run away with it! Used to love coyotes until I actually had to deal with them now I cannot stand them and I’m terrified for my dogs, my dumbo dog chased one up the fence recently so glad it ran and didn’t fight her
@@moshpitsandbongrips6998 the ones I see at night will run away a little when you yell or make noise but not all the way, which is worrisome because it means they're used to humans. And one night I had a pack stalk me and my dog and yes they are tiny but with three that I could see, maybe more I don't know, I wasn't sticking around.
Everyone is here to confirm what they heard, but I'm here for nostalgia. I used to live in the country and hearing coyotes outside my room at night was a regular occurrence. Living in the city for the past 10 years now has me missing things from what seems another life.
I’m a student pilot at this remote airport in Kentucky and I’m always the first one to the airport at 6am every morning in the pitch black (it’s winter). Do I have a fear of flying? Heights? Nope. Being by yourself at a dark airport hearing coyotes howling is the scariest thing ever.
Basically one of them said, “threat over here” then they all said “hey there’s something over there” and they all regrouped to protect themselves. Pretty cool
I live close to the Mall of America, one night as my husband and I were going to bed we heard sirens go by. As a joke I quoted the movie Zootopia and said "stop, you're going to start a howl". Immediately after I said that two coyotes started howling. It was perfect timing.
I love coyotes, I used to share a wooded are with them when I was homeless. We bumped into each other several times in the middle of the night but they never messed with me and I didn't mess with them.
@@steves4966 be a responsible dog owner and parent and you wont have issues with them. Keep your dog on a leash at night and bring a flashlight. They make coyote vests for little dogs now, but you handling your dog in a well lit area will be enough to deter them
I just heard this (and hear it often, especially as it gets warmer) so I finally looked up coyote packs howling and this is EXACTLY what I heard. Pretty cool.
Once I was camping and there was a pack in the distance. I woke up periodically to them getting closer until they sent a scout I guess. Could literally see it casting a shadow on my tent. Creepy as hell haha
I went to a museum today. Heard the sound of coyotes. Freaking uncanny, wild and beautiful all at once. This video is what comes closest. OK, the first coyote, 0:04- 0:25, probably the lead of the pack, alerted the others that it was indeed ok to react to these weird sirens.These natural-born sirens did not know what to make of those fake sirens at first, and were spooked. The leader confirmed their perception. You can see it starting from 0:25. They're at it (reacting) till 1:06, THEN you start hearing doubt about the validity of it all (obvious from 1:12-1:18 and on). They conclude that these fake sirens are not to worry about, not even worth their time. Funny though, the 6 second silence between 0:19-0:25. Why didn't they react immediately to the sound of the leader? Like they gave themselves some legit ponding time. Or were they waiting for l'éminence grise at 0:25-0:26 to also give the signal?
I feel a weird sense of camaraderie knowing that I'm not the only person who's ever arrived here after wondering if that crazy screaming was actually coyotes and not every dog in the neighborhood going buck-wild
I find them so relaxing weirdly 😂 I used to fall asleep to them singing. If you howl to them, they'd howl back..so cool. I loved scaring friends in the dark showing them lol
I believe it was a couple coyotes that attacked my husky retriever when we first moved up north in Michigan. Either that or a wolf pack but a couple nights later this noise was the same that I heard probably a few hundred yards away from my house
Not at all likely. They're terrified of humans and the only time they would wander this far into a densely populated area would be because their starving. Not much else to worry about as an human, but a lone child or a lone pet would definitely be targeted to hunt. Their also quite dumb animals so their vigilance and leadership is not always going to be the best or the brightest... they howl after they have gone patrolling solo and the alpha wishes to regroup the pack, or to put the word out to every swingin dick in the city that this is their turf now. This often backfires as it spooks nearby prey causing them to travel even further out alone to find something to eat. This group has apparently given up for the time being and resorted to being assholes who just "wanna have some cats and eat them too." 🤦♂️ bad dad joke... Anyways, these little shits are awful and they would typically be dispatched or removed by DNR or local law enforcement. Most states allow you to hunt them all year long without any license, unless you're a trapper and you're selling the males pelts to companies like Canada Goose jacket company who uses coyote fur in their hoods. Cheers. 👌🤷♂️
Ugh I grew up living in the middle of the woods, and this is one of the creepiest sounds to wake up to in the middle of the night, especially if you don’t know what the sound is at first.
I've been living in Humboldt Park , Chicago for almost 10 years. Last winter I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life: I love 3am walks. They are peaceful and spiritual. I walked towards the big "rock feature" and out of nowhere I heard what sounded like a high pitched melodic bark. I loved the sound but I didn't catch what it was so I started to mimic it and then it called back. I did it again; and they called back again. It was very cool! But I got scared because they got closer very quick.... I walked away slowly; looked next to me and there it was. A big messy Coyote. We looked at each other and went back home with a huge smile on my face! : )
When I was a teenager, we had a husky and her name was "Blue eyes." She was one of the best dogs we ever had and she was quite a character. Anyway, whenever we Heard sirens just like that out on the road nearby, she let out this super mighty loud howling. Even sometimes when the moon was full she'd lay out in the moon lit ground and howl at the moon. Or even if we heard coyotes nearby, she'd howl at them too. But I remember when I graduated from highschool, we had a party there and I had some friends come over along with a few teachers and a couple of nearby neighbors. One point, there was a police siren on the road and this time, not only did Blue eyes howl, but the rest of the dogs howled along with her. We had a German shepherd, a black Labrador and 2 beagles. I'll never forget it. Especially the way everyone reacted. One of my friends came back outside from using the bathroom and he asked "what was all that noise?" I don't remember what I said but it was kind of a reference in the form of a joke.
So, I was out walking last night. We live in a mobile home park, surrounded by SOME woods. There are also newly built homes, in our area. I heard what sounded like a bunch of kids screaming, but now searching for coyote sounds on youtube. Your channel confirmed what I heard. I quickly walked home.
Tonight I woke up around midnight to hear exactly this. I knew that we had lots of coyotes nearby but I never knew they sounds like that. I heard it and literally thought something was dying, since there has been lots of attacks recently
I have a hunting pack that has been in the woods next to my property for years now. Had one walk nearly up to me one night, as it moved along my tree line. They do sound scary, but I love them. I pray they are not hungry at night. It hurts my heart thinking they are out there hungry. I feel this way for all the animals.

Was high on shrooms. Really high like 7gs and was in my woods at dawn.. Heard that sound and it seemed pretty close. Came out in a hurry as I was quite deep inside the woods. Looked back and it was dark. Felt like a movie type of thing. Good times.
I grew up in forest-y California and moved to Florida recently, I’ve missed hearing these beautifully horrible sounds in the distance, haha! It’s oddly comforting, in a way. Maybe just because I grew up with it.

I heard this last night in a rural part of central PA but with no barking. It only lasted a few seconds. I also heard it in a gated community outside Phoenix early this month, also short with no barking, but in fits and starts.

I just was. Had a puppy and an adult dog on a leash. Then I heard my cat trying to catch up to me. I just knew we were going to be attacked. I called my husband on the cell and told him to get out of bed and get a gun. He thought I was nuts. The coyotes got quiet then and he heard nothing. Of course.
Sirens got them howling ☺️ I live next to a long stretch of wetlands, and every once in a blue moon I have seen a coyote. I've always wanted to get my phone out and snap a pic and take a video. They're so fast and run back into the wetlands. Awesome seeing them.

I just moved to Albuquerque, and was sitting on my patio, waiting for my Russian Blue kitty to come home. I heard some howling, not too far away, and it sounded exactly like this video. She came running home and jumped into my arms. Needless to say, she will never be allowed outside again.

I shut my screen door once and it made a screechy creeky sound and we have a coyote den behind our fence so next thing we know we had coyotes at our fence think we were also coyotes not a pleasant sound to hear at 2:30 am when you’re babysitting someone’s two tiny dogs who happened to be pottying at the time! The beagle even started howling back and I was like “omg you’re gonna get yourself killed”

Spooky and oddly beautiful. My ex and I were camping in the Badlands of South Dakota about 10 years ago and we were woken up in the dead of night hearing a pack of these guys going off. They sounded so damn close by!
That is what the vineyard behind my backyard sounds like at 1 in the morning...a siren just went by in the distance...they went nuts. It's a little scary when they sound so close.
I play this for my inside cats (a litter of Siberians I fostered & kept) so they can learn & help build their street smarts. Funny thing is, my cats ignore most of the neighborhood dog convos. But there is one distinct bark that seems to be universal in the animal world & thats the "coyote is here" sound off.. freaks my cats out.. they will pace & growl, looking out the windows, finding one another so they all growl together. I'm enjoying sleeping in my yard... what has been the last few months of cold weather leading into the hot summer. Having Wildlife all around, I play this, to get the wildlife, definitely in my yard and I see them often - to head out of my yard and allow me to sleep knowing - as best I can, that they are not around.
They respond to that siren like WEVE ALL BEEN GOOD BOYS OUR LORD. In their defense, a police siren does sound like some type of giant techocoyote. Digital King of Coyotes.

They eat dead animals or dead people as far as i know but they also fear humans and if you get closer to them they’ll run and won’t hunt you

@@ProstheticTeeth it's that "primal brain" response thing. That being said... They CAN get to sizeable numbers, ones like this are a family/pack unit.
Came to this video cause this just happened to me. Heard what sounded like 20 of the bastards right outside my front door, looked out the window, didn't see them, but they were loud as all hell. Went to check if my mom heard them, talked for a bit, went back to the window, and a coyote was standing right in the middle of the street, staring me dead in the eyes. I don't even live in a super rural area, I'm in a rich neighborhood with lots of walls and parks, and these bastards managed to get right outside my house.

Their pups howling in the spring are the cutest things ever. They kind of take turns and go at it for several minutes at a time. An ambulance just went by and it caused the coyotes in the woods behind me to start howling, came here to remind myself what they were.

The same thing happened to me last weekend. I live in Murrieta, California, behind my backyard lays a golf course, and we get coyotes and rabbits wandering around every night. But it was my first time hearing coyotes howling at a police siren.

I heard one howling about 30 mins ago across from the house on the hillside. It was first time I've ever heard them howling! It was so beautiful! It snowed here tonight, and standing in my doorway listening to them across the white fields was just magical!!! 💞❄🌬🌨

There have been something like 300 overall coyote attacks on humans ever and half of those are in california. Theyre more afraid of humans than we are of them.

@@moshpitsandbongrips6998 the ones I see at night will run away a little when you yell or make noise but not all the way, which is worrisome because it means they're used to humans. And one night I had a pack stalk me and my dog and yes they are tiny but with three that I could see, maybe more I don't know, I wasn't sticking around.
Everyone is here to confirm what they heard, but I'm here for nostalgia. I used to live in the country and hearing coyotes outside my room at night was a regular occurrence. Living in the city for the past 10 years now has me missing things from what seems another life.

I love coyotes, I used to share a wooded are with them when I was homeless. We bumped into each other several times in the middle of the night but they never messed with me and I didn't mess with them.

@@steves4966 be a responsible dog owner and parent and you wont have issues with them. Keep your dog on a leash at night and bring a flashlight. They make coyote vests for little dogs now, but you handling your dog in a well lit area will be enough to deter them

I just heard this (and hear it often, especially as it gets warmer) so I finally looked up coyote packs howling and this is EXACTLY what I heard. Pretty cool.
Once I was camping and there was a pack in the distance. I woke up periodically to them getting closer until they sent a scout I guess. Could literally see it casting a shadow on my tent. Creepy as hell haha

I went to a museum today. Heard the sound of coyotes. Freaking uncanny, wild and beautiful all at once. This video is what comes closest. OK, the first coyote, 0:04- 0:25, probably the lead of the pack, alerted the others that it was indeed ok to react to these weird sirens.These natural-born sirens did not know what to make of those fake sirens at first, and were spooked. The leader confirmed their perception. You can see it starting from 0:25. They're at it (reacting) till 1:06, THEN you start hearing doubt about the validity of it all (obvious from 1:12-1:18 and on). They conclude that these fake sirens are not to worry about, not even worth their time. Funny though, the 6 second silence between 0:19-0:25. Why didn't they react immediately to the sound of the leader? Like they gave themselves some legit ponding time. Or were they waiting for l'éminence grise at 0:25-0:26 to also give the signal?
I feel a weird sense of camaraderie knowing that I'm not the only person who's ever arrived here after wondering if that crazy screaming was actually coyotes and not every dog in the neighborhood going buck-wild
I find them so relaxing weirdly 😂 I used to fall asleep to them singing. If you howl to them, they'd howl back..so cool. I loved scaring friends in the dark showing them lol

I believe it was a couple coyotes that attacked my husky retriever when we first moved up north in Michigan. Either that or a wolf pack but a couple nights later this noise was the same that I heard probably a few hundred yards away from my house

Coyotes will hunt in packs when food is scarce but they generally prefer being loners.
Aren't any dogs or cats left in this area, they are easy pickings for these guys.

Not at all likely. They're terrified of humans and the only time they would wander this far into a densely populated area would be because their starving. Not much else to worry about as an human, but a lone child or a lone pet would definitely be targeted to hunt. Their also quite dumb animals so their vigilance and leadership is not always going to be the best or the brightest... they howl after they have gone patrolling solo and the alpha wishes to regroup the pack, or to put the word out to every swingin dick in the city that this is their turf now. This often backfires as it spooks nearby prey causing them to travel even further out alone to find something to eat. This group has apparently given up for the time being and resorted to being assholes who just "wanna have some cats and eat them too." 🤦♂️ bad dad joke...
Anyways, these little shits are awful and they would typically be dispatched or removed by DNR or local law enforcement. Most states allow you to hunt them all year long without any license, unless you're a trapper and you're selling the males pelts to companies like Canada Goose jacket company who uses coyote fur in their hoods.

Ugh I grew up living in the middle of the woods, and this is one of the creepiest sounds to wake up to in the middle of the night, especially if you don’t know what the sound is at first.
I've been living in Humboldt Park , Chicago for almost 10 years. Last winter I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life: I love 3am walks. They are peaceful and spiritual. I walked towards the big "rock feature" and out of nowhere I heard what sounded like a high pitched melodic bark. I loved the sound but I didn't catch what it was so I started to mimic it and then it called back. I did it again; and they called back again. It was very cool! But I got scared because they got closer very quick.... I walked away slowly; looked next to me and there it was. A big messy Coyote. We looked at each other and went back home with a huge smile on my face! : )

At Yoem Pueblo, we heard coyotes howling and they sounded like Native American spirits cheering, it was the most chilling yet beautiful thing ever.
When I was a teenager, we had a husky and her name was "Blue eyes."
She was one of the best dogs we ever had and she was quite a character.
Anyway, whenever we Heard sirens just like that out on the road nearby, she let out this super mighty loud howling.
Even sometimes when the moon was full she'd lay out in the moon lit ground and howl at the moon. Or even if we heard coyotes nearby, she'd howl at them too.
But I remember when I graduated from highschool, we had a party there and I had some friends come over along with a few teachers and a couple of nearby neighbors.
One point, there was a police siren on the road and this time, not only did Blue eyes howl, but the rest of the dogs howled along with her.
We had a German shepherd, a black Labrador and 2 beagles.
I'll never forget it. Especially the way everyone reacted.
One of my friends came back outside from using the bathroom and he asked "what was all that noise?"

I have a hunting pack that has been in the woods next to my property for years now. Had one walk nearly up to me one night, as it moved along my tree line. They do sound scary, but I love them. I pray they are not hungry at night. It hurts my heart thinking they are out there hungry. I feel this way for all the animals.

Was high on shrooms. Really high like 7gs and was in my woods at dawn.. Heard that sound and it seemed pretty close. Came out in a hurry as I was quite deep inside the woods. Looked back and it was dark. Felt like a movie type of thing. Good times.

I heard this last night in a rural part of central PA but with no barking. It only lasted a few seconds. I also heard it in a gated community outside Phoenix early this month, also short with no barking, but in fits and starts.

I live next to a long stretch of wetlands, and every once in a blue moon I have seen a coyote. I've always wanted to get my phone out and snap a pic and take a video. They're so fast and run back into the wetlands. Awesome seeing them.

I just moved to Albuquerque, and was sitting on my patio, waiting for my Russian Blue kitty to come home. I heard some howling, not too far away, and it sounded exactly like this video. She came running home and jumped into my arms. Needless to say, she will never be allowed outside again.

I play this for my inside cats (a litter of Siberians I fostered & kept) so they can learn & help build their street smarts.
Funny thing is, my cats ignore most of the neighborhood dog convos. But there is one distinct bark that seems to be universal in the animal world & thats the "coyote is here" sound off.. freaks my cats out.. they will pace & growl, looking out the windows, finding one another so they all growl together.

I'm enjoying sleeping in my yard... what has been the last few months of cold weather leading into the hot summer. Having Wildlife all around, I play this, to get the wildlife, definitely in my yard and I see them often - to head out of my yard and allow me to sleep knowing - as best I can, that they are not around.
I’ve heard them a few times in Ohio and once in Pennsylvania, and every time I do it scares the crap out of me!
