I’ve never come upon a bear while hunting before, but a friend of my father’s and him were elk hunting in eastern Oregon a couple years ago and while they were taking a break for a moment, and while his friend (let’s call him Mike) went off into the bushes for a sec, a wolf came upon him. All my father heard was all of a sudden Mike making a whole bunch of loud noise. The wolf had been about 5 yards from Mike and the first thing he’d thought to do was just scream and whack the bushes with his bugle. He didn’t even want to pull out his pistol at that point, he just wanted it away from him😬 We heard the wolves at night but that was the only time any of us saw one
@@Shine-wb6ll I'm also scared of bears. I'm also a massive animal lover, but I've seen videos of what they can do and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. I saw a video that showed the aftermath of a brutal attack and I've never seen anything so messed up. The guy was snowmobiling and got knocked off by a black bear. It mauled his face while he laid there helpless until it finally got bored and left. I'd rather die than lose my entire face and eyesight. I also didn't want it to discover me in the tree, but I was afraid of coming down from my treestand, scaring it while I was running back, and getting attacked because it was in "defense mode". You can hear them howling at night. I've never seen one up close (thank god) but I've seen them eating deer guts. They always take off whenever they notice us. After reading your story, I'm taking my Beretta with me from now on.
I have crossed paths with bears about 4-5 times in my life. Once in Sequoia National Forest my friend and I were on a trail coming back and it was standing right on the path, the best advice is to stand your ground and raise your voice and yell loudly but not to charge or approach, and if you see baby cubs walk quickly the other way as a mama bear will attack if she sees you near her cubs.
I have also crossed paths with a few bears in my life. One was a mom with 3 Cubs outside of Yellowstone. They don’t just automatically attack you because they have offspring and see a person nearby. Give them their space and follow the usual guidelines.
Thats right, If it is a grizzly or black bear, they might leave you alone if you stand your ground and try to intimidate them, doesnt work with polar bears and mama bears I guess, and yes I did once scare a black bear away 😉
I only came across one, hiking in the Appalachian trail. He hauled ass. I mean I’ve always heard about the whole stand your ground and make noise, but idk, if I saw a full grown grizzly with Cubs behind her charging me I’m beaten feet lol. All standing around and yelling at a charging grizzly is gonna do is get you turned into Swiss cheese.
Ooof Park Ranger in that 2nd clip lookin like a snack, solid foundations, excellent camera work, that third clip had me lol'ing "Go away bear, can't be here" Bear: Are you serious nerd? This is my home!
Just stay away from the cubs. As you can see the bear did not follow him far. The momma bear just wanted him to stay at a distance. The scariest situation would be a bear that is actively hunting you because then you are screwed. Don't carry any treats around that a bear would find tasty.
Im living in polar bar country, and non of these give me anxiety. When a black bear or brown see you, eating you seems to be optional. When a polar bear see's you, eating you seems to be the best choice of the day!!!
I was once attacked by a bear. My friends and I were going on a camping trip and they told me to bring spray against bears or at least a gun. I didn't bring any though. We were fishing on a river, when they went back to the camp I was unlucky because I had not caught any fish so I wanted to stay longer. After a while on my own a big brown bear walked right up to me with a fish in his mouth. I stood up and wrestled the bear down, taking his fish. To this day they would not believe me but I had the fish to prove it.
This type of comments are the most dumbest.. Do you mean that we shouldnt ever go hiking or exploring into the woods or mountains just because there are other animals ?!
It's normal the relation between preay and predator is usually, you see me, you run, I catch you ... a predator is not used to be yelled at and get rocks thrown at him and the pray stand his ground . It's a non natural behavior so the predator is confused and intimidated .
The scariest thing is that you don’t leave animals alone. If you don’t help them, get out of their habitat! And the idiot even takes his dog there, there are a lot of non-normal people in the world!
When I was camping in Allegheny national forest, by mistake we drove up on bikes on to a family of bears drinking water and quickly turned around and kept going not looking back to see if they was chasing us. Days later we were told a bear went through our trash and food while we was sleep in the tents. The camp expert leader showed us the bear paw prints and told us she was glad we followed the rules and didn't take any of the food into the tents with us. I told her I heard growling and saw something big walk by my tent and just laid really still and held my breath, like she told us to. I will never forget seeing the beer shadow near my side of the tent when I woke up front the grunt growl sound, cause I am a light sleeper.
Me and my husband were out on a hike in Yellowstone two days ago and we cross paths with a bear and her Cubs. Thankfully we were able to backed away slowly and everything was fine. Not sure if I ever want to go on a hike like that again!
@@brittneyrichmond6724 Yeah, it works with Black bears. But it doesn't with brown bears. If one sees u a u scream, u are most likely dead. That's why that Ranger is doing her job wrong. Could have gone very wrong yelling at a grizzly
6:00 when they bluff charge you definitely do not want to do anything a prey would do, like run or you will be making the worst possible action to increase the likeliness it attacks. Looks like they handled it pretty well. Show you're not pray, your foods not on the menu & stand your ground in bluff charges.
The narrator constantly asking "would you have run?". Fuck no, you dip shit. That's a prey response, and I have no intention of being food. Me and Smith are staying right where we are, and yelling and acting big. Going into bear country with no weapon is stupid, and the only time it makes sense is if it isn't permitted by law.
@@joetalley192 “Going into bear country with no weapon is stupid” is it really, if you live in one of the many counties where bears live all over? I’m pretty sure your average Canadian doesn’t bring a rifle with them if they’re taking a walk around the woods/other areas of nature? Tourists don’t carry guns when following trails in national parks? And if you lived in a country like Japan, where bears live all over the countryside, would you just never leave the city? This just doesn’t seem very realistic.
@@alexbennet4195 I'll bet your average Canadian that lives in big bear country does. Black bears are all over Canada, but that's not the type I'd be worried about very much. I also added the caveat of law prohibiting a weapon. Most people that never leave major trails probably don't need one because of the frequency of people on those trails. Bears, in general, won't try to be where lots of people are. I'm talking about the folks that really get out into the wilderness. If you are anti-gun, you should carry bear spray. If you had ever seen a big bear up close, you might not be so quick to dismiss having a weapon. I don't wanna use it willy nilly, because if I don't need to take a life; I don't. It's their house, I'm just exploring it. I also don't wanna deal with the fall out of a game and parks investigation, and possibly losing my weapon, hunting rights, etc. Have you ever seen a big bear with nothing between you and it? Have you ever seen it think about whether you're food or not? It's unnerving, and that would possibly be the worst way to die that I can imagine (short of what humans do to each other).
@@davidq.5488 Perhaps but, Not all the time. A Russian teenager was killed and mauled by a momma bear with her 3 cubs and as the bear ate her, she was screaming and crying. The bear still attacked. The teen had the power to call her mom 3 times to say goodbye before she died. It's so sad! But yelling and screaming doesn't help, it's like swimming with sharks...You remain calm and don't splash or make a big commotion, their used to attacking injured turtle's and animals splashing so they can't distinguish between a person and a Turtle. They'll attack.
That’s what you’re supposed to do tho. Don’t get to close and try to maintain distance along with yelling really loud. You’re also supposed to make yourself as big as possible like putting ur arms in the air.
"Would you have tried to save the couple or would you have run away ... ?" Well, if you ran away, you WOULD be saving the couple, since the bear would immediately chase, kill, and in all likelihood, eat you.
I don’t know much about bears… are you not supposed to run? I know one of them is less likely to keep attacking if you play dead and another responds in a favorable manner if you shout and scream at it… if I remember correctly.
@@C4RL1NN Running is like ringing the dinner bell. It triggers their predator-prey instinct, so even if they're not hungry or threatened , they will chase you. And they will catch you. And they will kill you. A bear can easily outrun even the fastest human. If it does attack, remember the rhyme: "If it's brown, lay down; if it's black, fight back; if it's white, good night." If a Grizzly (Brown) bear thinks you are dead, it will usually leave you alone. You're no longer a threat and no longer an enticing meal, so ... later! A black bear, however, will continue to attack. So, because they are much smaller, your best option is to fight back. You probably won't win. But you might. If a polar bear comes after you ... you're toast. They are enormous, unfathomably strong and can snap your neck with a simple swipe of its paw. And 99 times out of 100, they will kill you no matter what you do.
@@C4RL1NN Noooo, never ever run. Not with black bears and not with brown bears (including Grizzlies) Running causes their instinct to kick in and they will get preditorial. NEVER run. You can't outrun them, they are 3 times faster. But you are right, there are different things to do with different bear species. 1. Black bears are often less aggressive and they are two times smaller than brown bears (in weight) When a black bear attacks. try to impress it, yell with deep low voice, and if it attacks...FIGHTS with everything you can find. Rocks, sticks. 2. Brown bears (including grizzly and Eurasian Brown bears) are way stronger and we can't fight them. One smack with a claw can kill you. They can crack a solid bowling ball with one bite. If you run into a brown bear, use your voice to let him or her know you are human, please don't panic or scream, and start walking backwards, facing the bear. Never turn your back to the bear. If he or she attacks (use bearspray) but if you have nothing, you can bluff charge back with big low voice and arm wide spread. If this does not work and he or she keeps charging, lay immediate in your belly with your hands in your neck, for protection. Bears will try to grab you and turn you over. Thats why you have to spread your legs wide open, so they can't toss you over easily. a backpack can protect. The only thing you can do is make NO sound (although the pain is terrible) because sounds, screams agitate them more and play dead. The bear needs to feel save before it will leave. Certainly in cases with mother bears and cubs. Many people survived attacks like this by laying dead. They will walk away if they were scared. Now the worst thing....bears don't eat 5months in hibernation, so in 7 months they have to gain a lot of weight. Mother bears don;t eat in hibernation, but do breastfeed the cubs. So they are extremely hungry and skinny after hibernation . Before hibernation they are also more aggressive, because they need to eat as much as possible. The worst that can happen to you is a hungry, starving and preditorial bear. Black or brown. Black bears, you have a change of winning because they are lighter and their teeth and claws are less long. But if you are confronted by a brown bear / grizzly that realy needs to eat and sees you as lunch...you are simply dead if you have no protection. You can pretend dead, but it will not matter. It will eat you. Bears are not evil animals. Actually they are beautiful and the love between mom and cubs is absolutely stunning. She takes care of them for years, she can mate when she is around 10 years, than bears are mature. So she will not raise that many cubs and she loses cubs by preditors. That's why she is like a fury when something "threatens" her cubs. She will even get into huge fights with enormous male bears and will sacrifice herself. Bears have a very hard and tough life, specially the mountain bears in Montana Yellowstone, Washington Sate, Canada. The bears in Alaska near sea and rivers and Kodiak have a pretty convenient life. They are way less aggressive towards people (just don't get near them or their food) but you see often photographers sitting with tripod, and momma bear with cubs just walk by...2 meters from them. I live among bears for many years. But always carry 2 very good quality (there is difference) bear spray cans on my belt. I don't own guns, that is not legal in Europe and we are not used to it. Nobody has guns, only criminals and maybe some hunters. I never would carry a gun. Culture thing I guess. Stay safe and stay in the open areas. Don't go into thick forests where you and the bear can get surprised, but enjoy nature. :)
“Unfortunately, the man doesn’t get the message and continues to stand his ground…” What do you think would happen if he ran? Do you think people can outrun bears? If you do a bit of research, you’ll see he actually did the *best* thing he could by standing his ground. The *worst* thing you could do is misinform people about how to handle this.
@@nosubsk”playing dead” is only encouraged for grizzly bears, as their attacks are normally for territorial reasons. For black bears (despite its brown color, the bear here shown in Kings Canyon is of the black bear species; there are no grizzlies in Kings Canyon National Park), it is almost always encouraged to fight back if they attack, aiming for its snout, as it is about as sensitive as hitting a man between his legs.

I was bow hunting in Northern Michigan when a black bear came below my tree and started sniffing. It looked right up at me and wouldn't leave. It hung around for over half an hour. I know black bears are not a huge threat and all, but it was my first time encountering one in the wild. My heart was pounding the entire time. I was also alone and it was getting dark. I was so scared that I left my crossbow at the tree and sprinted back to my cabin once it left.
Damn.. id pass out. You are lucky nothing happened. Because they can climb trees as well. And you know it'll come back again. Bears don't ever give up. And this time it would've definitely climb that tree. The first time it was just assessing the situation. They have such an acute smell. They definitely can smell fear. I am so scared of bears 😓 and i am an animal person. Iv helped over 50 animals in my life. But i cannot stand bears. They are too unpredictable. They are very smart as well. They are the perfect beasts
I've been told that black bears are harmless and will run away 99% of the time when threatened, but I'm still scared of that 1%. I saw a video that showed the aftermath of a brutal attack and I've never seen anything so messed up. The guy was snowmobiling and got knocked off by a black bear. It mauled his face while he laid there helpless until it finally got bored and left. I'd rather die than lose my entire face and eyesight.
I honestly considered sleeping in that tree all night because I didn't know what to do, but I didn't want my family to come looking for me after not returning and get attacked. I also didn't want it to discover me in the tree, but I was afraid of coming down from my treestand, scaring it while I was running back, and getting attacked because it was in "defense mode".

You sound so dumb dude.. you talk as if coming across these wild animals is something normal. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I'm California I seen some coming out the restrooms like humans
Just a little tip for this channel, just play each clip through in its entirety. Don’t play parts of the clip 5 times each before the end of the clip.

The last clip was potentially the most dangerous, because of the baby bears...that's when momma bears attack. Protecting their young.
Just stay away from the cubs. As you can see the bear did not follow him far. The momma bear just wanted him to stay at a distance. The scariest situation would be a bear that is actively hunting you because then you are screwed. Don't carry any treats around that a bear would find tasty.
That's what they tell you, when they get caught. Irl they're just going crazy because the kids keep them awake 24/7, and they miss hibernation...
Don't run, whatever the bear does, make yourself look as big as possible and as loud as possible. The cubs will run, and the mother will fallow...
Im living in polar bar country, and non of these give me anxiety. When a black bear or brown see you, eating you seems to be optional. When a polar bear see's you, eating you seems to be the best choice of the day!!!

Looks like they handled it pretty well. Show you're not pray, your foods not on the menu & stand your ground in bluff charges.
Yeah just thinking of he backed off there it would've been over, takes a lot of balls to hold fast in that situation though

You don’t run from an apex predator numb nuts.
"Would you have tried to save the couple or would you have run away ... ?"
Well, if you ran away, you WOULD be saving the couple, since the bear would immediately chase, kill, and in all likelihood, eat you.
Haha you are funny
Lol!!!! So true
If it does attack, remember the rhyme: "If it's brown, lay down; if it's black, fight back; if it's white, good night."
If a Grizzly (Brown) bear thinks you are dead, it will usually leave you alone.

What do you think would happen if he ran? Do you think people can outrun bears? If you do a bit of research, you’ll see he actually did the *best* thing he could by standing his ground. The *worst* thing you could do is misinform people about how to handle this.
You can still stand your ground and start walking back (very slowly). The narrator is not saying run at no point.

Can't outrun a bear, playing dead is only practice for how you will be soon, stand your ground
@@alvaroq2024to clarify, when walking away, always do so backwards. Never turn your back on a bear (or mountain lion).

@@KS-nq8vo there are lots of people who dont know, mainly tourist that come to places like Canada and have never seen or experienced bears. And I didnt say running, I said they will even go faster then you on a bike.
@@KS-nq8vo so yah trying to run is a no brainer lol, better to stand your ground. They can be intimidated to back off. But it wont always work, this is a risk you have to take living amongst these magnificent creatures.

This guy's narration voice suddenly started talking the other day while I was sitting on the toilet:
"It's a good thing he didn't finish the other half of those chili-cheese-fries last night. This could have gone far worse for him. What would you have done?"
ooo
A good way to secure campsites is to use a portable electric fence. The lightest one out there weighs only 2.4 lbs and it’s powerful enough to deter a hungry griz. Just a suggestion
Love how you circled the park ranger then the bear so we knew who was who
Never run , you become a target then. The cousin was the smartest , he stood his ground and had a can of Bear Spray.
I am curious, what should you do when you dont have any wapens or Bear spray, should you still stay your ground? Is it smart to throw somethings at the bear, wouldnt it get angry.
@@Lee711Shine If you don't have any weapons or bear spray do this . First pee you're pains so he knows you're scared and poo if needed. Get down in a fetal position and cry and beg for you're life and it may work. If that doesn't work try telling him/her a good joke while getting eaten.
I though bear spray was for attracting bears.
They should call it anti bear spray.
Bear spray fine or a bear horn it’s make them scare but with both need when you go to forest!

I love how the one man says, "You can't be here." You're in the woods, dude. You're in his territory.
I think the sound of your voice gives me more of the chills sir
When humans walk into bear country, they are no longer top of the food chain, they are in the food chain. Respect nature
Bears don't eat humans. Just the food they have with them.
Ya OK 😂
Humans can beat all even themself
@@ThatBoyBent There are plenty of examples of bears eating people
@Gregory Marte true
I am scared of every animal that are predators. But, its just something about a damn bear, especially a grizzly bear that puts fear in my heart like no other
It’s tigers and lions that do the same to me

Bears and chimps man
@@the_last_edenian5915 chimps are honestly scarier than bears... IDK, maybe I’ve been watching to much Joe Rogan.
Just throwing some casual shade with "WEEKS worth of food" pointing at that rotund lady in blue... XD
5:50 “Unfortunately the man doesn’t get the message and continues to stand his ground…” Good to know who’s side the narrator is on. Should have called the video, “Disappointing human escapes from bear attacks.”
You clearly don’t know what to do when facing a bear do you… you stand your ground and don’t run if you run your better off pulling the trigger on your self
🤣🤣🤣
@@mountainghoul13 @Remington Wendt. Did either of you actually read my comment? Lol. I took a quote from the video. The narrator says “unfortunately he doesn’t get the message and stands his ground.” He basically says “unfortunately, the human stands his ground and doesn’t get eaten.”

The 1st bear encounter was like "It's over bearkin i've the high ground!"
also, the bear was far enough away, it probably didnt even notice him till he started yelling at it. idiot should have stayed silent.
I went to the comments to find this one.

maybe man saw his future alert when husky got alert as bear can smell very much far distance that's why he gone mad doing shouting instead of running away , Husky must be thinking that Human is too much drunk xD
Kinda looks like obi wan too

Running away from bears is potentially one of the worst actions you can take. Doing this marks you as potential prey and rather than backing off due to intimidation, the bear might give chase which is game over.
omg, I spit out my coffee when those campers started rawring! lmfao! RRRRRRRAAAAAAAWWWR

Yelling at a Brown Bear seems like a great idea, especially since it'll assume you're challenging it and based on your size, it's thinking you're going to be an easy warm up before having to fight an actual bear haha
I see you know a lot about bears, if you have a grizzly encounter you have to try to intimidate it if it comes on for an attack you lay down and cover your neck dont makes any noise

That first bear is young, maybe a cub.
The second video has a lot of people you can outrun in it.
Third video - “go away … the other way” 🤣
