Heck yes!! I’m so excited to watch this one! Yall are great young mechanics AND super entertaining as well! Thank you for taking us along on the journey
How can you not love a square body, they are my absolute most favorite vehicle ever. I have had many of these in fact I was 10 months old when my father purchased a 1973 C10 and that is the first vehicle I can say I truly ever remember riding in. He was a farmer and commuted 25 miles every day from home to the home base of the farm every four years he purchased a new truck to commute in and use to run all over the eastern part of the state to purchase parts and supplies for his farming operation that took place in three counties of North Carolina, he never traded or sold a truck and his 73 was still in operation until I was 20 years old and t was my first truck. I later drove the 1977 for a bit before getting myself a new 1992 z71. Later a bought a new 1974 C10 that was moss olive green and white two tone just like the one my father had mainly because he had passed away unexpectedly in an accident. Sadly one of my buddies used my 1974 and totalled it. I hope to find another square body soon as quickly as I can work out of a bad financial situation caused from me having a bad case of covid and spent a year getting back into shape as a mobile mechanic and landscaper starting to over again at 59 years old sucks.
That's part of why I will never let people touch my stuff (when I finally start getting my own stuff) that way if it ever gets stuffed, it's just me who caused it and not some knucklehead (said with the most love and in an endearing way).
As the owner of a couple of 454s over the years, I'm convinced they made the exhaust manifolds garbage on purpose so you have to buy headers, because it should be illegal to run a big block chev without em. Sounds waaaaaaaaay too good not to. Also, used to live in Minnesota, and Casey's pizza is flames. Miss it.
You don't find many c30 legitimate camper specials.that would be an awesome truck to restore and put a vintage slide in camper in the bed. I was excited to see this video pop up!
I would definitely like to see more on this truck! Would like to see it get fixed up and running like a champ. Great video keep on doing the revivals and will it runs.
My first truck was a 78 3/4 t side by side tanks were 18 gallons apiece. Don't know what yours are. Wow I wish I still had it. Silver and maroon beautiful. Im 57 now except for the color and manual trans I had very similar. Love love love it.
In an emergency you can blow through those filters backwards and clean a lot of the crap out of them. Even flow fuel backwards through them with hose and a funnel.
Yeah what I was going to say this is smog era 454 probably a 4 .56 gear truck it would benefit from better exhaust cam kit and I do know people who have put 3.73 gears in them don't think id go that far but definitely better carb rebuild and nix the smog pump and cat and probably the exhaust pipes are half plugged from sitting put a new exhaust system on it
The truck I had I was referring to being camper special specd but not the expensive option with the badges was a 78 Chevy c20 custom deluxe long bed regular cab farm truck two tone emerald green and frost gloss white center and tailgate it was a 9 leaf spring pack truck plus overload spring,14ff 4.11 rear gear th400 350sbc also smog era soft cam era truck one hell of a workhorse always hauling more than it's own weight
This truck is a 76 I believe judging by it is has 75-76 color and the wide mouth air cleaner housing with the fresh air tube to the grill and the engine is orange and not corp blue that started in 1977. My dad had a 77 he got new and that was his best square body ever. It ran 300,000 thousand miles before the first major issue ever happened which the the TH 350 trans finally had to be rebuilt. Before that all it has ever had done was regular maintenance, a few sets of front pads, maybe 2 sets of shoes and the alternator was rebuild I think getting a voltage regulator and a diode trio, and a set of bearings in the alternator the original ones were not bad just was done to be safe. My dad had a friend that was like an older brother about 17 years older and he was old school in that you rebuilt anything that came in your vehicle that could be rebuilt such as calipers, wheel cylinders, starters and so on. I have to say I prefer to do that as well I rebuild my own calipers and starters and such. Usually before they fail if possible around 100, 000 miles
I've been watching 3DT for awhile now. You guys are insane in the membrane, hilarious, and laugh at fails and danger. Some of your stuff is Wile E. Coyote-approved. That's why I am subscribed!
Good job fellas. That square body's got good bones. Plenty of potential. Sure you'll have no problem selling as is... or make some upgrades, enjoy it, and still sell it nicely. Who knows... maybe you'll like the old bowties more and more.
Man only if I had the money to buy one myself. I grew up working on old square bodys with my dad. Certainly was surprised to see you guys work on one but I'm not complaining keep them a comin. Love the content.
It's pretty funny to watch the guys work in each of their different vehicle grabs. They truly do choose unique stuff or just unknown old or industrial etc stuff. This is a win right off as it's rust free. I'm from Canada so I don't want to hear that you "Saw rust" on the truck. THAT TRUCK IS RUST FREAKIN FREE!! BELIEVE ME!! LOL. But when he says "It's got a really nice stereo" I thought Oh some old sweet Pioneer or a Sony system. But they meant it's a stereo that's in Like New Condition. But the stereo itself was probably the cheapest Cassette player available after the lowest price "Realistic" from Radio Shack. LOL. But they're right. It IS nice! Anyway hats off to the boys I love the content and their go to it and get er dun! Attitude! Then comes the moment when I feel sorry for the poor buggers when they're stuck on the side of the highway with on coming Semi Trailer Tractor Trucks bearing down on them in the rain! SEE TOLD YA! LOL> 41:45 So I say a little prayer for the guys (You'll notice they fly on nothing more than a wing and a prayer most all of the time. Literally. He often says something like "Well I think we'll be fine with a little elbow grease and a prayer". LOL. I love it!
I like the later squarebody way better. Owned quite a few, never really fell in love except for the later Suburbans. I like the Dodges better and the '67-'79 Ford except for their gas engines, some transfer cases with no low range in 1/2 tons. Axles were usually the best of the era except they were alergic to front discs for so long. '77 F-250 4wd was the best. Good looking body and grille with front discs. Good axles, trans and x-cases.
RIGHT!? I’m in the upper peninsula of Michigan, most of the square body’s are either rotted away OR they are all done up and the owner will never sell it. Still cool to see these guys wrenching on this ol girl though
I used vice grip pliers on the other side so I don't have fight the brake lines and then damn clips and my dodge ram is even more of a pain in the ass just saying..
He's laying on his belly across the engine bay, and machine-gun cycling the choke.. "Does something happen when ya do that??" LOL.. Gotta love the 3DT humor.
The mystery third line off the sending unit just goes to the charcoal canister supply return vent to the canister. You can thank smog regs and the EPA for that extra bit of plumbing.
I would LOVE to see this ol square body again!!! Budget upgrades would be hella cool! Idk about the camper, but… hear me out on this.
