I feel like the Sovereign stepping down solidifies what a Great King he was because he was willing to give up power, end the monarchy that had existed for centuries (Taldorie is literally his family name), because he felt he’d failed his people by being tricked by Brimsythe and the Briarwoods and he realizes one person should not rule. He plants the seeds of a republic. It contrasts him with the tyrant king Thordak. Then he dies and we mourn his loss even more because he just showed he’s such a good man.
100% seeing him step down in the opening seconds was sad enough, yet admirable! But then to see him gassed in the following seconds..... 😫 stop playin with my hear critical role lol
Well, I'd say Uriel planted the seeds of an Oligarchy, but it's a step in the right direction. But I can count on less than one hand the number of times in human history that anyone has given up political power without being forced to. So yeah, big ups to him.
@@BobbyChill2 yeah I was so happy when the cast Khary Payton and loved his performance and was like I want more Sovereign Uriel and then in the last episode of season 1 I’m like oh no! He dies at the bringing of season 2! And I knew he died cause I watched CR years ago but I wanted it to be different because of what Khary Payton brought to the role. Heart breaking.
The look on Uriel's face when he dies knowing his family was safe legit broke me. Yes, it was a disaster, yes it was painful for the survivors... but his life ended free of duty, and at peace. He didn't deserve to die, but he does deserve the peace he got.
To clarify a little, Brimscythe was a member of the Conclave, and by posing as General Krieg he was able to weaken Emon's military in preparation for this attack. As Percy deduced, this was a plan that's been in the works for a while.

Gotta say, you're my favorite CR/TLOVM reactor. You're so genuine and thoughtful! This was SUCH a good episode. In the series they had lived in this city for a while, we knew the characters so well. When Imon fell it was utterly heartbreaking, and I think they managed to get the emotions across well here.

Yes, dragons teaming up is EXTREMELY atypical. Even "good" dragons are solitary by nature, and most dragons will only meet to make eggs with each other or fight for territory. A dragon team-up is like bringing an atomic bomb to a knife fight.
Currently vox machina is around level 11 while allura is a more experienced human wizard so she’s most likely level 15+ at the time. Dragons are intelligent enough to cast spells so they are DANGEROUS EVEN WITHOUT THEIR DRAGON BREATH.
It has begin, as someone famous once said. ;) And boy are we in for a ride. I love the dragons and how they were portrayed. White dragons tend to be more brutish, greatly enjoying battle and hunting their prey, especially prey that can fight back and give them a challenge. That is reflected really well with Vorugal, with the broad and blocky design and the rhino horn-like ice on his snout. Yet, he may be brutish, but he's not a dumb beast as we saww when he used his true-sight to see through Scanlan's illusion. Black dragons tend to be greedy and cruel, and their acid breath attack is perfectly suited for inflicting a cruel, painful death on those unlucky to get in the way. We see some of that with ho much he enjoys breathing acid over Emon, and how eagerly he talks about Westruun being full of treasure and ripe for the picking. The cruelty is also reflected in the kind of people they "employ" as underlings, which we will see later on in the season. Raishan is highly intelligent and while not as physically powerful as the others, her sinuous, almost snake-like design and the moniker 'deciever' in her name has that symbology for a reason. We won't see her goals and plans right away, but she too desires power and knowledge like the others. Her poison gas breath weapon is very insidious as it tends to linger, and while not as painful as Umbrasyl's acid causes a more prolonged death. And the Cinder King shows why red dragons are usually counted as the strongest and most powerful among the chromatic dragons. Uriel was, if not a kind ruler at least a just one, who had the wisdom to seek counsel, and even step down when it would be better for his realm. The Briarwoods when they ruled Whitestone were cruel, but also neglectful, leaving much of the day to day affairs of running Whitestone to their underlings. Thordak on the other hand is a red-hot iron fist. Regal, but harsh, unforgiving and will not tolerate neither rebellion, running away or slacking off. He takes a personal interest in how his rule is going, to a degree, because he wants to see the fear in the lesser races he rules. His design reflects this very well, with the almost demonic head and the mix of sleek and powerful build, backed up by a terrifyingly powerful mastery over fire. That blast that destroyed Emon's palace and part of the Cloud Top district was made by making his fire hot enough to shift from yellow and orange into the blue spectrum, meaning it's at least in the 5000-6000 degrees celcius range. Like an acetylene torch scaled up to the size of an 18inch battleship cannon.
The dragon design is amazing. The power-up for Thordak made my jaw drop, and I have watched the live stream! But I love Raishan's look. She's a poison dragon, and she definitely has cobra vibes about her. But all of them look so freaking cool!
Like season 1, there are 12 episodes this season, in 3 episode bursts every thursday at 7pm EST. As for the dragons, two are voiced by the two of the main cast (Vorugal and Umbrasyl), two from non-CR voice actors (Thordak and Raishan).
I am obsessively watching people react to the drop of this season to feed my appetite for VM content until the next three episodes are dropped! As a Critter of 3 years who has seen all of the campaigns I am foaming at the mouth waiting to watch people who don’t know what’s coming react! It’s so fun! You also have some great insights!
To explain the name "Chroma Conclave" a bit, dragons come in different flavours, but are generally divided into metallics (gold, bronze, silver etc.) and chromatic (black, white, blue, red, green). Metallic dragons are more on the side of good and chromatics are more on the side of evil. Both sides are also represented as gods, the Platinum Dragon and whats-her-name with multiple heads, one for each of the chromatic dragon types. And since there (was) one of each of the chromatic dragons in this Conclave of dragons, they call themselves the Chroma Conclave.
It's been a few weeks to a couple of months since they got back to Emon after defeating the Briarwoods. And your question about the Conclave's plans was answered WHILE you were asking it. Brimscythe had infiltrated the council years ago to weaken Emon's army to prepare for THIS attack.
"What's that little crystal in his chest?" That's a Mystery Mouseketool that will make us cry later (and by later, we mean almost immediately and then repeatedly for the next 2 seasons)
Bobby is back! Vox Machina is back! Yessss! I just binged the first three episodes and cannot wait to see your reaction to the next two. This first episode is such a killer! I remember watching the Critical Role stream and the players in confusion "should we stand and fight"? They do try a round of fighting which doesn't do anything at all but catch a dragon's attention and the crew realizes there is nothing they can do but run.
@@BobbyChill2 That was pretty much was this first episode was all about. Grog goes to attack and bounces off. Spells, bullets, they are just not strong enough. Yes, when you get to see it play out live will be awesome.

Also not a guarantee but I’m pretty sure this arc will be both season two AND three. With how epic and long standing this arc was there it would be hard to fit this in 12 episodes. Also some stuff that happened pre Briarwood arc got moved into season two and I cannot wait for your reactions to episodes 2 and 3.

Excited for season 2 and excited to see your reactions to it. I love the design of the dragons and their breath weapons in this. Vorugal is the only one I didn't really like at first but I think it's growing on me. I was admittedly a bit worried from the teaser since Vorugal was the only one we saw the breath of in that and I wasn't a fan, but the other three all looked fantastic right away and like I said, Vorugal's growing on me
In Season 1, Brimscythe was between a 'Young' and 'Adult' Dragon when they fought him. Thordak, Raishan, Umbrasyl, and Vorugal are all "Ancient" Dragons. The older a dragon gets, the stronger. The "weakest" of these four Ancient dragons could mop the floor with Brimscythe without getting out of bed. There are dragons more powerful than these four, called "Greatwyrms". The Greatwyrms are basically Gods to the lesser dragons. Bahamut and Tiamat are two Greatwyrm. Finally, there's two other types of dragon. Dracoliches, and Ascendant dragons. The Dracolich is an undead dragon that's bordering on being a demigod. Ascendant dragons are also sort-of demigods; they're sort of "Holy Dragons" who ascended to serve (Good) Bahamut, or (evil) Tiamat. Needless to say, Vox Machina are Little Mac, about to take-on FOUR Mike Tysons. (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!)

Thordak on the other hand is a red-hot iron fist. Regal, but harsh, unforgiving and will not tolerate neither rebellion, running away or slacking off. He takes a personal interest in how his rule is going, to a degree, because he wants to see the fear in the lesser races he rules.
His design reflects this very well, with the almost demonic head and the mix of sleek and powerful build, backed up by a terrifyingly powerful mastery over fire.
That blast that destroyed Emon's palace and part of the Cloud Top district was made by making his fire hot enough to shift from yellow and orange into the blue spectrum, meaning it's at least in the 5000-6000 degrees celcius range. Like an acetylene torch scaled up to the size of an 18inch battleship cannon.
The dragon design is amazing. The power-up for Thordak made my jaw drop, and I have watched the live stream! But I love Raishan's look. She's a poison dragon, and she definitely has cobra vibes about her. But all of them look so freaking cool!

Like season 1, there are 12 episodes this season, in 3 episode bursts every thursday at 7pm EST. As for the dragons, two are voiced by the two of the main cast (Vorugal and Umbrasyl), two from non-CR voice actors (Thordak and Raishan).

To explain the name "Chroma Conclave" a bit, dragons come in different flavours, but are generally divided into metallics (gold, bronze, silver etc.) and chromatic (black, white, blue, red, green). Metallic dragons are more on the side of good and chromatics are more on the side of evil. Both sides are also represented as gods, the Platinum Dragon and whats-her-name with multiple heads, one for each of the chromatic dragon types. And since there (was) one of each of the chromatic dragons in this Conclave of dragons, they call themselves the Chroma Conclave.
It's been a few weeks to a couple of months since they got back to Emon after defeating the Briarwoods.
And your question about the Conclave's plans was answered WHILE you were asking it. Brimscythe had infiltrated the council years ago to weaken Emon's army to prepare for THIS attack.
I cry when I think about Uriel's final moments and his smile, is because his family made it to safety. Relief and acceptance.

This first episode is such a killer! I remember watching the Critical Role stream and the players in confusion "should we stand and fight"? They do try a round of fighting which doesn't do anything at all but catch a dragon's attention and the crew realizes there is nothing they can do but run.

Also not a guarantee but I’m pretty sure this arc will be both season two AND three. With how epic and long standing this arc was there it would be hard to fit this in 12 episodes. Also some stuff that happened pre Briarwood arc got moved into season two and I cannot wait for your reactions to episodes 2 and 3.

I love the design of the dragons and their breath weapons in this. Vorugal is the only one I didn't really like at first but I think it's growing on me. I was admittedly a bit worried from the teaser since Vorugal was the only one we saw the breath of in that and I wasn't a fan, but the other three all looked fantastic right away and like I said, Vorugal's growing on me

In Season 1, Brimscythe was between a 'Young' and 'Adult' Dragon when they fought him.
Thordak, Raishan, Umbrasyl, and Vorugal are all "Ancient" Dragons.
The older a dragon gets, the stronger. The "weakest" of these four Ancient dragons could mop the floor with Brimscythe without getting out of bed.
There are dragons more powerful than these four, called "Greatwyrms". The Greatwyrms are basically Gods to the lesser dragons. Bahamut and Tiamat are two Greatwyrm.
Finally, there's two other types of dragon. Dracoliches, and Ascendant dragons. The Dracolich is an undead dragon that's bordering on being a demigod. Ascendant dragons are also sort-of demigods; they're sort of "Holy Dragons" who ascended to serve (Good) Bahamut, or (evil) Tiamat.
Needless to say, Vox Machina are Little Mac, about to take-on FOUR Mike Tysons. (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!)
