Dragons don't typically group up, and it's even more rare for dragons of different colors to team up. Gilmore is not overexaggerating when he describes it as the end of civilization.
2:46 - I love that in his final moments, Uriel smiles, because he sees his family made it and are safe...
Really appreciated that moment, and that they let the animation and voice actor convey his relief without needing dialogue to spell it out.
Really hoping the whole lot getting crushed by rubble is a mislead. I'd like to see Allura and Kima make cameos at some point in the future rather than just wiped out with everyone else.

Little do we know, Uriel actually survived Raishan's poison attack, though his eyes were blinded by the gas. Ridden with shame that the nation he had failed was now ravaged by dragons, he fled Tal'dorei to Wildemount, and took up a clerics mantle, growing out his hair to disguise himself. Hushing anyone who tried to enquire about his past, he took it as his moniker. He would patrol the regions near Alfield, checking to keep the people safe, until years later, he happens upon a curious group in a gnoll infested mine...

This is the longest and most character building arc for Vox Machina, every member 's going to be facing challenges in one form or another and they're all going to get their chance to step up and take point.
it's great that they have 2 seasons to work it out.
First six episodes and they’ve already done so much work on these characters. Percy, Pike, and Keyleth were the only ones who I felt had much development last season, and already this season has added to almost all of them.

Oh, you two have no idea how insane this is going to get. It will be great fun to watch you.
As a Critter, I know who the mysterious woman Vax keeps seeing is, but for spoiler reason I will keep that info to myself. And I love that Lance Reddick is voicing the dragon Thordak. He has such a unique voice that just oozes character. Just great to listen too. Buckle up ladies, the kiddie gloves are off now.
Am so happy they are teasing mysterious woman already, Matt couldn't do that in the campaign for obvious reasons, so it is fantastic to see they thought to include this here in the animated series.
I was so thrown off by his caribbean accent in John Wick tho... but that's amazing to see: *CHARACTERS,* and the actors going out of their own selves to become the character.
Some insight from the game side, Vex is a Ranger who has Dragons marked as her favored enemy which makes them easier for her to track. In the show they are illustrating this as her sixth sense.
As for Vax's visions, well we'll just have to wait and see.
the main cast continues to flex their skills, matt mercer (sylas) is the voice of the black dragon (acid), and liam obrien (vax) is the voice of the white dragon (ice)...
Of course Matt is the creepiest one. Grog can handle acid though. As long as Captain Winky is safe.
The fire dragon (Thordak) looks insanely cool, I also really liked the ice one (Vorugal). Their designs look so unique!

Critters gifted Matt TWO red dragon minis for Thordak
In D&D, the color of the dragon determines its "breath weapon." The breath weapon also shoots out of the dragon in one of 3 ways: a cone, a straight line, or a cloud. There's "good" dragons & "bad" dragons and they usually line up with their colors. Chromatic dragons being "bad" and metallic dragons being "good." The colors for chromatics are red, green, blue, white, and black. The colors for chromatics are copper, brass, silver, gold, and bronze. The color of the dragon determines its breath weapon & the animated show has demonstrated already the 5 types: lightning (blue); fire (red); cold/ice (white); poison (green); and acid (black). I think I read that metallic dragons get a second breath weapon & they are different but I don't know what they are off the top of my head. Oh, and the older a dragon is the more powerful it is. And the power levels of dragons are set as: wyrmling, young, adult, and ancient.
So in the streamed campaign, when Matt said that the party saw "ancient" dragons, everyone knew this was bad as "ancient" had a very specific mechanical meaning.
Brass/Gold=Fire
Bronze=lightning
Silver=cold,
Copper=acid
it also changes which type of attack you get as a dragonborn character, either a straight line AOE for 60ft or or a cone AOE for 15ft, depending on your colour ancestry
though a full dragon enemy or ally (young and above) can do either as a legendary action with their own more powerful versions.
if i recall from Critical Role, the acid dragon did a breath attack that covered 60ft in a cone, which heavily damaged percy and vax passed the saving throw, hence the scene playing out almost as it did here.
Metallic dragons do indeed get a secondary non lethal, but disabling breath weapon.
Brass = Sleep
Bronze = Repulsion
Copper = Slow
Gold = Fortitude Reducing (disadvantage on strength based rolls)
Silver = Paralyzing

The Chroma Conclave are the most destructive and ruthless dragons I’ve seen in almost a decade. Thordak alone is like a nightmare fusion of Smaug and King Ghidorah!

Just so you know Brimscythe, the dragon in the first season, was in this group of dragons. He was the youngest and weakest of the group.

I was happy to see you both reacting to this season! I loved the designs of the dragons, too. I especially like the green poison dragon looks very cobra-like. And the voice actors are excellent, too! Fun fact, the black acid dragon and the white ice dragon's voice actors also voice main characters in the show... I will write who down at the bottom here in case you don't want to know/want to guess...
The black dragon is Matthew Mercer who voiced Sylas last season (and countless background characters). He's also the Dungeon Master of the Livestream
The white dragon is Liam O'Brien who plays Vax.

2:07 other nerds will point it out but there are good dragon types called metallic types. I once played a campaign where the party meets a kind copper dragon who was queen of her city. I pointed out that her throne probly looked like a giant dog bed.

There do exist "good" dragons, but they belong to a group called metallic dragons. Gold, silver, bronze, etc. Ruled by the dragon god Bahamut. Then...there are the chromatic dragons. The spawn of the five-headed dragon goddess, Tiamat. Chromatic dragons (red, green, blue, etc) are typically "evil" in nature, the type you'd picture from classic tales. Vain, greedy, sadistic, destructive, etc. So if even a small group of ancient chromatic dragons work together, like Keyleth said...it's like the end of the world...

D&D Dragon Lessons:
1. There are 3 main categories of dragons: chromatics, metallics and gems (most settings usually only address chromatics and metallics).
2. Chromatic dragons come in white (which breath cold energy), black (which breath acid), green (which breath poison), blue (which breath lightning), and red (which breath fire and are generally regarded as having the greatest brute strength out of all chromatic dragons), while metallic dragons come in brass (which breath fire), bronze (which breath lightning), silver (which breath cold energy), copper (which breath acid), and gold (which breath fire and are generally regarded as the strongest out of all metallic dragons).
3. Chromatics are consistently evil, metallic are consistently good.
4. Dragons working in groups is EXTREMELY odd, especially for chromatic dragons.
5. Dragons exclusively get stronger as they age, so older dragons are always more powerful. D&D has different stat blocks for each dragon type based on their age category because of this, with the age categories being, from youngest to oldest: Wyrmling, Young, Adult, and Ancient.
6. Metallic dragons, once they get old enough, gain the ability to polymorph. Meaning they can change their shape to be a different creature, with humanoid forms often being the forms they'll assume. Some DMs like to give this ability, or something similar to it, to chromatic dragons in order to serve a story function.

Oh, and I don't know if you all want to watch and/or react to how the shocking moments played out on the Critical Role campaign stream, but if you do, I'd recommend starting here: th-cam.com/video/9EToAf4nhDw/w-d-xo.html. It's from the moment Sovereign Uriel is about to abdicate his throne. That announcement probably would have been the shocking moment of the episode... until 4 dragons showed up. You can then see the shocked expression on the cast's faces as Matt surprises them with something he's been planning for years to unleash on his players. You can probably stop watching at 3:37:08 as the rest of the episode is combat rounds, which can be quite tedious to watch if you're not already a fan/Critter.

Yea dragons in this universe usually won't attack together. They will kill their children or even their mate. And it's even more unheard of for dragons of different colors ie Black (Acid), Red (fire), Blue (lightning), White (Ice), and Green (poison) to fight together rather than fighting each other. So this is a huge deal that has world ending potential.
There are actually good dragons. They mention a historic one in the next few episodes, "The Platinum Dragon". They visit the temple dedicated to it.

Black: acid, Blue: lightning, Green: poison gas, White: ice. Red is fire, but Thordak pulling an Azula is *not* the norm.

they are the chroma conclave because these dragons (the evil ones, dragons are conveniently colour coded), are called chromatic dragons, as opposed to the good ones, that are the metallic dragons... copper, bronze, silver, gold and so on..
dragons grow exponentially in power as they age, they are very intelligent and they have a variety of side powers, of a magical nature... think of Brimscyte, who could morph into general Krieg or vorugal, the white dragon, who could see though illusions....
Dragons are extremely solitary, especially the evil ones, who tend to be paranoid, so to see a bunch of them, not even of the same colour, act in concert is entirely unusual and extremely worrying, potentially world changing.
dragons, especially the more powerful ones, have a tangible effect on the area they occupy.. so it's entirely possible that a mountain range where an ancient white dragon takes residence suddenly is covered in glaciers, that an island where a red dragon resides becomes a vulcanic blob of lava, and so on.. in general, decay surrounds them... and in DnD lore, many a kingdom has fallen because a single dragon took residence in the region and rendered it uninhabitable.
Thordak levelling the cloud top district of Emon is the first step of making his lair... a dragon's lair is very much attuned to it's inhabitant.
another thing that may come into play may be that weird demonic artifact from season 1 that's still in whitestone and they just left as an unexplained loose end. i hope that green-eyed girl isn't what i think she is.

So the thing about DnD is theres like idk 20 dragons or so, i mean just for the Cromatic and Metallic there's like 10. To explain the Croma conclave is made by the cromatic Dragons the: Red,Black,Blue,Green,White dragons. (If i remember right that's the power order for them). I Dont remember in Tal'dorei lore where they came from, but in the "original" DnD they are born from the Cromatic Dragon Godess Tiamat, and as their Godess they are evil. They see any other creatures are insects (That's why Thordak is full of himself when he talk about the humans, especially because the Red dragons tend to be the most arrogant of them all because they see themselves as the Heirs of Tiamat or the personification of her in the mortal realm).
About the Dragons they're ancient that's why Scan-man said: They are much bigger then BrimScythe, i think BrimScythe was (what Young adult ?Someone who knows please correct me if i'm wrong)
So beside the raw power they can use magic and they have "truesight" the blue eye thing that the Vorugal the ice dragon does when Scanlan tries to use illusion on him.
Truesight does this exactly: A creature with truesight can, out to a specific range, see in normal and magical darkness, see invisible creatures and objects, automatically detect visual illusions and succeed on saving throws against them, and perceives the original form of a shapechanger or a creature that is transformed by magic. Furthermore, the creature can see into the Ethereal Plane.
Back when as watching in the part that Grog hit the Raishan (Green Dragon) he break his axe, in the campaign itself Travis roll a 19 i think on the dice and still misses the hit and he was shocked by that, the face he made was hilarious.
The Chroma Conclave:
Thordak, self-titled 'The Cinder King' (ancient red dragon, fire).
Raishan, 'The Diseased Deceiver' (ancient green dragon, poison).
Umbrasyl, 'The Hope Devourer' (ancient black dragon, acid).
Vorugal, 'The Frigid Doom' (ancient white dragon, ice).
Brimscythe, 'The Iron Storm' (blue dragon, lightening).
This arc is one of the best from Critical Role to date! Mostly because the Chroma Conclave is absolutely terrifying.
The chromatic dragons, the colored ones, are all evil (generally) and tend to only work solo unless they are a mated pair or one guarding the brood. In DnD each dragon color has a specific breath weapon, red - fire, blue - lightning, green - poison gas, black - acid, white - cold. And generally, they will never work with a different color dragon, this is what the concern is.
Not these dragons Chromatic (Red, Black, White, Blue, and Green) generally are evil, while Metallic (Silver, Gold, Bronze, Copper, and Brass) generally are good.
There are good dragons. The show is based off Dungeons & Dragons. There are dragons with scales that resemble metals, gold silver brass etc. and they are good beings.
The bestial design of the white dragon is intentional. White dragons are the most brutal and least intelligent of the chromatic dragons. Very cool that they designed it to look like a dinosaur rhino.
Honestly, the scene where the Conclave attacks felt far more brutal in Critical Role, which is to be expected, I suppose. Some differences I noticed is in the game, the group had no idea what happened to Uriel, they didn't find his body until much later and the scene with Gilmore almost dying just hit different in the game. The group breaking down, Gilmore's last words.. everything was just perfect. I feel like it is much toned down in the show. Speaking of, I just prefer Gilmore from the game, it is not a fair comparison though. Matt really outdid himself with voicing Gilmore. That was truly glorious and when the group discover him dying, my heart broke. I felt it, like someone close to me was dying. That is a potent feeling and truly is the result of good roleplaying. Gilmore is just one of those NPCs that most CR fans can agree was endearing to them. Also the fact that lady Kima is barely brought up because all of the context behind this NPC was lost due to cutting out the Tiberius parts of the story hurts. Kima is Grog if he was a Paladin. She is just rough and brutish and loves a good scrap. I love her character. Dragons in DND are fascinating. They are not just mindless beasts like most monsters, they are intelligent and cunning. They will take every advantage they can get. They are also vain and have their own personalities based on the color of their skin. To a dragon, most humans are just ants waiting to be squished. When the conclave attacked Iman, they weren't there to negotiate. They were there to enslave. Kill off most of the population to inspire terror and dread and subjugate the rest. It is a time honored tradition of slavery. They thoroughly beat any hope out of their victims until they are nothing but hollow husks dominated by the fear.
I gotta say if ya'll are likin this whole anime thing(which Vox Machina kind of is) ya'll really need to check out Chainsaw Man it's bonkers fuckin crazy. I think you'll love it.
