This video makes me feel so much better about my problem solving skills with Lightburn; I actually figured this out on my own without having to bother you! It took me quite a while and a few choice words but I did it. Thanks Steve.
Steve, thank you for going over this again. I have always thought that us amateurs miss one or two little things that end up frustrating the heck out of us. We communicated a month ago about this very topic. Seems I missed imputing the actual size of slots and light burn could not find them. Once I figured that out all was well. Of course the video you sent me just confirms that “one little thing” . Now you follow up with this video and I again learn something new. Tolerance, who knew??? This is why I support your channel. Keep up the good work!
I think I keep my tolerance at 1.5 and so far has worked great when I don't know that material width and just guess because I am too lazy to use the ruler 😊 One thing I want to see in lightburn is just a simple CUT function rather than going through the boolean stuff. have a safe trip and can't wait for the videos!
There is a simply cut tool. Alt Shift C is the shortcut to the cutting tool. If you have two shapes on the work table and you want to cut one from the other, select the piece you want to keep first. Then while holding the shift button select the shape you want to use as the cutting tool. Then Alt Shift C, or in the tools drop down menu select cut shapes. This will make the piece you used as the cutting tool disappear and create the desired cut you are looking for. The original peice will now be in two separate pieces that can moved around or deleted.
Steve, you are awesome! I have just spent an entire day fighting this very problem on a file i bought through etsy where the slots and tabs needed to be tightened up and i just couldnt figure it out. Thank you
Thank you for this video. I have not been able to change the depth on many of the files I have purchase because of what you just described! Keep up what you are doing!
HI ! i was texting you about the X shaped groove, now that did worked and you helped me. But what if i make half of the groove in my design and then mirror it ? It wont resize my groove and i have no idea how to make the lines thats setting the with of the groove into one line
Steve, please clarify - how does saving a file with kerf settings corrupt a file? I've been doing this since i started using LB and have never had an issue. Is this something LB recommends, or your opinion? thanks
I found this out the hard way. I posted three different files on my website for sale. All three of them would no longer correctly resize the slots and tabs. Even though the layer shows 0 kerf. When you would try and resize the slots or tabs, it would never go to the measurement you told it to go to. I was told that because I had saved the file on my PC with kerf previously, even though I shared a file with 0 kerf, it was corrupted by me saving it initially with kerf. I was also told that this is a known issue that goes back many, many versions. If your design doesn't have slots or tabs, or you never plan to use the resizing tool. Then save all the files you want with kerf. Just trying to share what I've learned the hard way.
Using your information I managed to get lightburn to resize the tabs but the slots will not change no matter what. They outline in green not like your screen shows. This feature has never worked correctly thru all the versions.
It works. The problem is the file. Almost assuredly, the tabs are the problem. Not Lightburn. If you send me a file that you are having trouble with, I'll be happy to examine it and demonstrate the problem. Send the file to me at hobowithwood@gmail.com.
It's people like you who will make Lightburn a much better and user friendly.
Thank you.

Thank you for this explanation. I'm understanding the resize tool better now. I'm watching many of your Lightburn videos. I appreciate your help.
