    This is my favorite lens and I returned the RF24-105 because I loved it so much. Tamron is killing the game with their new lenses. The 35 1.4 is amazing as well and I can wait for them to release some RF mount lenses.

      They really are! This is probably my favourite zoom lens I've tried out so far, even though there are brands that have optically amazing 24-70s that focal range doesn't really interest me that much. This lens though is a different story, I really really liked it for portraits and think it would be so handy for weddings too!

      @@juliatrotti I agree Julia, 35mm is just wide enough and at f2.8 it is great. Then, 150mm is close to 200mm. Great job on your videos, I have become a fan of your work.

    I love this lens very very much, but a must buy is the Tamron Tap-in console mainly for ........
    -To perfectly dial in autofocus at different focal lengths. You can adjust at 35,50,85,105,135, and 150mm (This really improved accuracy!)
    -If you do video you will want to change the VC mode to viewfinder mode to get smooth VC for video instead of the snappy/jumpy VC for photography.
    This is a great lens for full frame and also apsc. Its very sharp

    Nice review and this lens is now my go-to travel lens now. 24-105 is too short and 70-200 is too heavy. I use on my Sony A7Riii with adapter for this lens and Canon 16-35. Two lens from 16-150 at no worse than f4 and both SUPER SHARP! Tamron are great. I have 70-200 f2.8 G2 for Canon too but heavy to travel with.

    • @jaytcapinpin
      @jaytcapinpin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @OnyxLee I love this lens, I primarily do outdoor sessions. This allows me to move around and use the entire focal range. At 150mm, portraits are nice and creamy. Granted, it's not a 1.8 or even 2.8. If I have an indoor event, I'll usually look for something faster.

    • @OnyxLee
      @OnyxLee 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jaytcapinpin thank you so much for your reply. For indoor, should I get an 50-100 f1.8, or upgrade to 35-150 F2-2.8? It seems quite a waste for me to have two lenses covering the same range. But the 35-150 f2-2.8 doesn't have image stabilization and it's super heavy

    • @jaytcapinpin
      @jaytcapinpin 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @OnyxLee The only 50-100 f1.8 that I know of is the Sigma version, and it is made for APS-C crop sensors. What body did you plan to use them on? Currently, the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 are available for E and Z mounts.

    @alnoormeralli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Pre-ordered this as soon as it was announced. It was meant to be my travel lens. But I find myself using it for on-location fashion shoots. Why? Because I don't have to switch between two lenses, my 24-70 and 70-200 and lose time and momentum during the photo shoot. Not having to carry 2 lenses is a bonus. It does suffer from distortions that have to be corrected in post, but I am much more productive during the shoot. What are your go-to lenses for on location fashion photo shoots?

  • @kenhuang3820
    @kenhuang3820 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently purchased Tarom 35-150 f2.8-4 was super excited about the longer zoom range fast lens. I test on the static subject taken few shots it was fine no issue, next day I test lens doing street photo tracking people walking and this is where I discover that it can't even keep up to 5fps on my EOS R it slows the camera down and on 2 occasions it locks up my camera, when it nails focus it is sharp photos (not sure if just my copy or it is the lens itself but I don't want to return and try another copy of the Tamron currently they don't have another copy need to order in from the manufacturer, so I have to wait and personally dislike waiting)
    However, it seems like only nail around 40% at the most and there was no consistency as to when it would slow down and for how long it slow it down. So I changed up from doing burst to one shot at a time trying to track and it still slows the camera down. My friend who use to own Tamron 18-400 also has the same issue it slow the camera down I'm not sure if just the Tamron superzoom has this issue, my Canon RF 24-105 F4 IS USM L lens has no issue (I was looking to return the Tamron for RF 24-240, I know the RF 24-240 have other issues like severe vignetting at 24mm and distortion on several of the zoom range and it's slow lens as in f4-6.3). I know you can fix these problems via edit some would say why you care if you can simply do 2 - 3 click in edit and fix it, but why would I want to buy a lens that made inferior, to begin with?
    I lost my trust in Tamron but I also have a love-hate relationship with Sigma, some of their lenses focus isn't as fast as I liked (use to own Sigma 40mm f1.4 I did research that seems to be a super sharp lens however for tracking it is not fast and I find it to get sharpness it claims I have to shoot the same thing 2 - 6 times to get it to tack sharp not 100% sure if user error but definitely it is slow in tracking people but it never slows down the camera like Tamron superzoom lens I happen to test it) but the main issue I have with Sigma is heavyweight. But generally speaking, I find the lens I use to own Sigma 70-200 f2.8 sports lens and Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens are both very good due to the weight which prevents me from using more often I trade-in for something else. I still have Sigma 24-70 f2.8 OS HSM Art. And now going to return Tarmon 35-150 f2.8-4 for this Sigma 135mm f1.8 I hope the weight won't prevent me from getting a high hit rate of sharp shots as this lens also don't have OS (image stabilization).

      We were wondering the exact same thing! We think if we had shot on a mirrorless the in focus ratio would of been much higher. Mirrorless does a great job of ironing out some lens AF issues and getting the most out of lenses. We are actually hoping to give it another whirl down the track on a mirrorless to confirm.

    I've been thinking about upgrading my Canon EF 85 f1.8 to the Tamron 85 f1.8 VC because I have muscular dystrophy and i'm 65 so I need stabilization even more than other people and the 35-150 is whetting my appetite, the focal lengths between 85 would be very useful. I have no plans to upgrade to mirrorless because I'm just an advanced amateur. Julia, I love the fact that you are using this lens wide open at all focal lengths to give us a good idea how it behaves. I have a question, I use a Canon 6D and 5Ds (a wonderful bargain in the dSLR world at US $1299.00) and the first version of the 24-105 f4L and there is a lot of overlap but I'd gain the f2.8 speed @ 35 and after 105 I'd gain extra focal length meaning I could keep the 70-200 f4L in the bag.

    Hi Julia! Thanks for this fine Video and pictures. I use the Canon 35 2.0, 50 1.4 and 85 1.8 for Porträts
    but i am realy thinking about the Tamron 35-150 could be the ONE FOR ALL these Lenses.
    What do YOU think about it? Are the canon primes much better? Thanks for ypur work and answer! WOLF

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! This lens is definitely convenient if you like shooting with a wide variety of focal lengths, like I mentioned in the video for a wedding it would be perfect and make the day so much easier. For portraits I think it's personal preference in the end run, for me I like using the 35 and 85 the most - but sometimes I do want a little more reach and something like would fill in the gaps between the 85 and 135 that I have.

    It may be my ignorance, however I thought the recent generation of Tamron 70-200 2.8 had VR? Am I wrong?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say image quality is about halfway between the 35 1.8 and 1.4!

    • @dhrooovs
      @dhrooovs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for response but @@juliatrotti so does that mean its better than 35 1.8 but not as good as 1.4 ? I am asking this because in few review I have read that image quality is little soft in the center at 35 mm wide open. While its great from 85 mm to 135 mm and again soft at 150 mm. You have also mentioned missed focus in few photographs at wider end. If that is the scenario should I prefer 35mm f 1.8 as 1.4 dont have VC/IS. I have Canon 77d (APSC). I have no plan to move on to full frame for few year until I improve on my composition. Also, I have Canon EFS 10-18 & Canon EF 50mm f1.8. I sold my Canon EFS 18-135 (kit lens) and now I am look for a new lens so I am confused between prime (tamron 35 f1.8), zoom(tamron 35-150). I dont wanna go for Sigma 35mm due to its AF issue which you also mention in other video. Apologies for big question.
      P.S. I moved away from buying 24-70 & 24-105 after understanding your views over those focal ranges.

    Loved this video, Julia. This Tamron seems great and I loved many of these photos. I shoot with the Canon EOS R which I love, but when I had my 5D Mark III, I also sometimes would have that problem of the lens focusing on the eyelash instead of the iris. What do you do about that? Focus and recompose?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much! I would love to use this with the EOS R or the R5 maybe when it comes out eventually. On my DSLR, usually what I try to do is keep the focus point on the lower half of the eye so it's halfway on the eye + cheek/bottom eyelashes, rather than it being in the middle of the eye. I find that there's less chance it focuses on the top eyelashes that way :)

    That mirror click is soooo loud! It sounds very tired and worn out. hahaha I think there are always some trade offs for using a zoom over primes but in certain circumstances, I really can see the benefit. Especially like you said, shooting on 2 bodies. I really like the 1 zoom/1 prime setup in that case.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha the camera is not that old so it wouldn’t be worn out yet, it probably just sounds really loud cos it’s close to my mic! And yeah even though I normally do 2x primes I could see a zoom x prime combo would be sooo convenient!

    • @fuegoimages2885
      @fuegoimages2885 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went through a phase last year where I went out and bought presets from about seven different sources. I think there about 100 different presets in these packages. They always seem so hit and miss. I ended up only using 2-3. Also, I think that presets affect different cameras differently. Now, when I want to make an artsy-fartsy quick edit, I use Luminar 4.2 as a plug-in within Lightroom. No, I don't work for Skylum. :-)
