Ok, so back when this was announced, I was one of those people that thought the RG Unicorn was a bad idea and was nothing more than a glorified hand grenade. Having gotten mine yesterday and built it, I can honestly say that I was quite wrong about it. The joints are stiff, the transformation works, and parts don't fall off left and right. The whole thing is actually quite sturdy and I'm rather impressed that Bandai managed to pull this off. Overall, I think this is a great kit and I'm very satisfied with it.
5 years later would you say that it’s aged well?

@FN-1701AgentGodzillaRangerPrime Ω depends on whether you mean the original MG, MG. Ver Ka, or MGEX. The first two are a little outdated, while the MGEX is a good kit that’s just crazy expensive. Take what I say with a pinch of salt though because I haven’t built any of the 1/100 Unicorns myself, I’ve just heard this from reviewers
Is it still holding up well? Like there's no loose joint or whatsoever? I really wanted to pick this up but after build the Force Impulse RG, I really don't wanna go back to the old inner frame :(, even thinking of picking up the Hi Nu rather than the Unicorn, but I really like the Unicorn one lol
The gap between the shield and arm is telling you that be prepared for the P-Bandai double Gatlings/full armor extension pack
I think that's just how they had to design the shield connection. but yes, it does leave plenty of space for weapons!
Except you can buy the FAU in RG.

Really, the fact that it can transform completely AND retain its high level of articulation, all without parts falling off, puts the kit in competition with the RG 00 Raiser for best RG out of the kits I've built. Can't comment on the RG Astray since I never got to pick one up. Also, I've used the transforming unicorn horn on my kit and it looks just fine in unicorn mode.
H Cam astray is nowhere as solid- parts fall off, very brittle in certain areas.
Also personal opinion, the proportions are a step down from the master grade, especially in the legs.
It's definitely a good kit, but it just doesn't match up to the unicorn.
astray frame upper and lower body joint is very loose due to the increased bending articulation mechanism.
Actually best rg other than the unicorn is the mkii

I have mine and the 'Unicorn' theme by Hiroyuki Sawano played in my head.n To the point where I hummed it at one point.
I guess it's now understandable why they went with the Sinanju first, and that is most likely to test whether or not any of their existing RG frames can hold up the Unicorn pretty well. If that is the case, then kudos to Bandai for learning their lesson.
And hoping the next RG is either Impulse, Victory, or Virtue......

I don't think they were every considering using a previous RG frame for the Unicorn. They had to have known they'd have to make a totally new one due to the transformation.
ZakuAurelius Wish that was also the case with the RG Sinanju wherein they also made a brand-new frame for it....

My first ever kit was A Real Grade Destiny Gundam, but I really like the unicorn design so it's nice to know that this kit was as good as it was. Maybe one day
it's good from an engineering standpoint that they have miniaturized the transformation, they can apply it to kits in the future
Just ordered this and the 1/144 banshee with the crazy shield. These are my 1st Gunplas since I was in 8th grade and I'm super stoked.
So how is 11th grade now?

I don't regret thinking this would be a disaster, I'd rather be surprised when a bad idea turns out good than the other way around... and I could still nitpick a few things that don't seem right to me.

This is what the RG Zeta should have been when it comes to structural integrity. Looking forward to grabbing a full armor version of this.
Hello.i recently bought this kit and i have a problem regarding the arms. My joints are tight to the point where i'm afraid of moving them. As you know the upper arms come pre moulded which leads to me not being able to sand the joints down. There for i'm looking for a good grease. I've heard silicone grease is a good choice but i was wondering if there are is any specific product you recommend. Thanks for your time.
I remember my first kit was a freshly released RG Freedom Gundam a friend bought me. It was an easy and enjoyable first for me.

Hey Zak, are any of the HG full armor parts compatible with the RG?
I bought a unicron recently and I had a very big problem with it being "solid", one of the L pieces that joins the torso to the arm broke and now the arm is super loose, how do I fix this??
Guess I'm buying it. It's going to be my first RG. Was thinking of the RG Deathscythe, but this looks so worth it.
Easy to guess it's gonna be either the Banshee or Full armor but for me I would love to see an RG Dom!
+ZakuAurelius if you had to pick between the rg unicorn and the rg amatsu Mina which one would you recommend? I was planning on getting the amatsu but this came out when I was about to buy it...
personally I prefer the Unicorn. But the Amatsu is also really nice and has great weapons/accessories.

I agree, this is very impressive kit and one of the best RGs IMO.
For future RGs I'd love to see more grunt suits like an RX-79G or a Gelgoog but I wouldn't mind seeing a Hyaku Shiki too.
yeah~ forgot that, but it's so simple and nothing inside anyway! hopefully it's not something many people really cared to see.

when you open the armor panel on the back of the leg you have to pull it down and then push it in a little to force the knee psychoframe out!
Thanks, I'm current building this kit right now and everytime i finish a limb or body part it just surprises me because of the transformation. I transform each limb. But I think i'll keep it on destroy mode for display.
I'm thinking of buying another one to display in unicorn mode. LOL But I have limits.
BTW I love your channel its my go to gunpla channel for deciding wether to buy one or not.

I spent a long time doing a very light pre shaded paint job on my HG full armor Unicorn so I'd be more likely to get the HG Unicorn mode over this RG & paint it to match
The knee armor in destroy mode doesn't really connect with the psycho frame part right? Or I made some mistake with mine?
You probably did. You pull the part where the leg thruster down to jot the leg psychoframe upwards. This should stay.
Yes I did pull the thruster down, the knee psychoframe popped up, and then I closed the knee armor, but it still have a gap between them and they're not really fit into each other
RG Sinanju 2.0 in this same line of Bandai muscle flex-off thing would be amazing
I'm well aware that this is an extremely old video, and as such I don't know if someone will respond to this comment, however I need to ask; Is there a way to loosen up the frame without applying any lubricants, and does one have to loosen up all of the frame when building this? I would love to build this some day (yes I am a beginner) but I've heard some nasty things happen as a result of the tight frame.
Just bend the pre-molded frame parts plenty before assembly

So, basically just bend them back and forth right after taking out of the runner.. That almost sounds too simple, but I bet I have to be slow with it. Thank you, I will attempt this kit in the near future, but for now I'm going to get the ZZ Gundam Ver. Ka as my first MG!
Hey gunpla fans I need help! I'm not sure whether to get the 1/48 unicorn gundam or go for a 1/100 MG titanium finish Red-Blue version. Which is more rare and special? Is the 1/48 limited edition? Is the titanium finish limited edition as well?
Such hype for banshee norn hopefully the phycoframe will be compatible with the Original Unicorn since I prefer my norn with red instead of orange/yellow but I guess that’s what paints for :P

I live in the US where gunpla is very hard to find luckily i have a hobby shop nearby where they sell gunpla and i found the premium unicorn mode box which i was shocked and the kit is amazing not for begginers
9:12 The v-fin uses RG foil stickers? Do they scratch as easily as the foil stickers from previous RGs?
not sure about scratching easily but they show dust and fingerprints super easily.
It sort of does. Though I didn't scratch mines.

I'm a big fan of the closed fists on this kit because they're much more substantial than the older ones. Previously they looked kinda flat and small but these are more in correct scale to the kit. Also the way they engineered the head is ingenious. The rotating face works so much better than the transforming part on the MG/PG.
The fact that the RG Mk II and Titans were both retail releases gives me a small hope that we'll see the banshee as a standard release as well. Maybe I'm fooling myself but one can hope.
I'm sure one form of the Banshee will be standard and one p-bandai
Just ordered mine and can't wait. The bazooka is a letdown though. Glad to see that this kit has proven a lot of people wrong about it being a disaster. Great review!

Does the hg unicorn full armor. Full armor pieces fit on this unicorn and if they don't how much modifications would it require to fit
you'd have to modify all the connections I think. just wait for the inevitable RG FA kit.

How can you change the fixed horns so easily?
a best way to loosen parts is not just move the joints but you can use some oil, lube or anything that can make things slide through with ease.... i've done that to my rg wing ew and now he's easier to move now without worrying that it might break while posing it....
about the engineering issues, i think the difference between the RG Zeta & the RG Unicorn in the transformable department is that the Zeta turns from a humanoid shape into a plane-shaped thing whereas the Unicorn is just a humanoid turns into a..... slightly taller & bulkier humanoid.
Yeah. But Zeta breaks easily. This guy? Solid as a bad case of morning wood.
The unicorn gundam is my favorite gundam, and the mg kinda disappointed me but I bought the rg and I'm building right now, this is my first rg and so I'm hoping for the best

Why don't you want to want to put panel washing on bare plastic and when during the build should you put it on?
the thinner in it can crack bare plastic.

The left arm on mine broke while I was putting the arm down because the joint is WAY to tight..... Not to happy about that.
My guess is Bandai planned to release Full Armor packs as a P-bandai along with the Awakening ver (Green Frame). I hope that the RG Banshee Norn will be release as retail.

I honestly like the RG more than the HGs. My HG Unicorn in Destroy Mode has not aged well. I had glue mine together with the parts popping off.

Hey guys sorry for the long comment.
So anyway which one is better OOB the MG Unicorn or the RG Unicorn? I need your opinion guys. I'm planning to get a new kit for my collection and I'm interested on the Unicorn. I'm aware that the MG size really adds up to the presence of the kit within the room I'm also aware that MG's have a lot of gimmicks, having built the Nu and the Sazabi Ver. Ka myself. But lets just say that I'm one of those person who doesn't care about scale and gimmicks I'm more of a person who likes detailed kits OOB.
So my dilemma is that the RG unicorn seems more detailed compared to the MG Unicorns OOB. So in your opinion guys which one is better OOB?

Sharie Narbonita MG unicorn (ova) is a hand grenade btw i own it. You can't play around with it. articulation like old mg. But for color, i really like the inner frame, it use gun metal color scheme.
the waist articulation is just suck. The lock mechanism don't lock properly.
David C I see I actually bought the Full Armor Unicorn Ver. Ka the other day haven't build it yet but I'm still tempted to get the RG due to the fact that I find it more detailed OOB wew dilemmas 😅

I really dislike the fact that the psychoframe peeks out on the shoulders, specially in Unicorn mode...though i understand any solution to that would have made the shoulders even bulkier. Well there's always paint.

@@mrguy4755 it can tranform into a destroy mode while it also can stay in unicorn mode. The HG's can't transform so in that case they are seperate kits.

Wish I seen this video before trying to turn the arm straight out in front as if it was gonna point a gun. It does NOT rotate that way and the arm broke. I’m so pissed
The indication of tightness means there will be a full armor configuration (I wish)
