Because the stories that Gundam tells don't align with what western media publishes. Gundam is about how conflict is terrible for both sides and that conflict is not morally black and white, but rather a VERY complicated affair. The west teaches us that conflict is good as long as the victors are the good guys and that the good guys have no really morally-reprehensible virtues to them while the bad guys are objectively the worst beings in the universe.
Tbf, even Gundam failed to gain traction in it's homeland during it's initial run. It's expansion into the west was further mared by it's size, most would be new viewers are fairly reluctant to dip their toes into this franchise thanks to its scale.
.....it also doesn't help that a large swath of the existing fanbase tends to present the UC timeline like a goddamn history assignment.
All they need to do is animated Endless Waltz Frozen Tear Drops.

Gundam Unicorn is my favorite work of fiction ever.
I once wrote a 6 page review of Gundam Unicorn, and showed it to my aunt (she's an english teacher, so I wanted to see how well-written it was), she said that I made it sound so interesting that she wanted to see it. So she came over one day and we marathoned it together. She enjoyed it.

The thing I love so much about Gundam is how real it gets with its war politics. Paired with the great characters, MS designs, story, and animation. It’s such a good franchise i can never get enough of it

Yeah when I saw link first pilot the Unicorn while everything is exploding its kinda deja vu so I google it and discovered I watched the OVA years ago and almost forget everything.
Yeah and they’re still milking the shit out of it for whatever reason.
@@rambact5769 it was the last mainline UC entry while Origin's OVA was a semi-remake that doesn't even cover everything. NT was a flop in terms of popularity and only works riding off Unicorn which leaves Hathaway that was supposedly to release in that decade but never did. Which more or less means we only had one real UC entry in the past decade.
Also we were supposed to get a Moon Gundam anime last decade but never did, either. As far as I know it was postponed or cancelled with Build Divers substituting
still Bandai havent upgrade the Kshatriya, its still on 1/44 scale

1:37 is so underrated. Marida uses a series of vernier thrusters to make a 180 degree turn, then apply thrust in the opposite direction to stop turning, and is immediately able to attack (helps when the mega particle cannons are built-in), while Banagher does a 540 using only the main thrusters in basically the same duration of time. What this shows is:
1. Marida is familiar with her machine
2. Banagher is still being thrown around by his machine
3. Unicorn has ludicrous thrust
For comparison, the Stark Jegan from earlier changed directions using a combination of AMBAC = inertia and vernier thruster boosts. In just 3 seconds before any actual fighting has happened, they've established for us the premises of the fight, leaving Destroy Mode as the only "surprise element" which everybody knew about. So I'd say, pretty damn well done for including this tiny detail.
Even with only two thrusters exposed, the Unicorn was enough to push back the Kshatriya with such force it activated its airbags and temporarily disabled it until they broke off.
What the hell is powering the Unicorn, it simply isn't just the work of one Minovsky reactor

Agreed, Hiroyuki Sawano is the composer for this series after all, he's like a Japanese version of Hans Zimmer.
You really can't deny the ost of most of the gundam series though. You've got Turn A Gundam with Yoko Kanno, whom is a legendary composer, then u got SEED which literally had nostalgic and emotional ost's.

Props to Sunrise for embracing traditional 2D drawings even with their mechs, unlike most mecha anime nowadays that uses full 3D. While this anime/OVA still uses 3D, it blends perfectly and that it doesn't feel off-putting while watching
Sunrise has admitted at one point that they're running out of 2D animators for mecha
@@titan133760 that's admittedly sad, but not suprising. I've heard here and there how the animation industry in Japan is harsh. Hence, many may end up dissuaded over the course of time.

The “Get the hell out of my way!” Is my favorite Gundam moment it’s so badass with the music and smashing through walls
It's actually far deeper - that quad-wing was smashing up his home, killing his friends, and bringing war to a peaceful land. To Banagher, war is a detestable thing - you can immediately tell by the way he looked at that Zaku wreckage at the start of episode 1, and how he reacted to Minerva (Audrey) mentioning she is trying to stop a war.
Then he finds out what they're here for - his own estranged father build a god damn Gundam. His own family was responsible for all the deaths, and now his father is going to die too. Now it's up to him to clean up the mess his own family started, and he's going to start by pushing that Zeke mobile suit out of his homeland.
Thus, "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!"
Real talk, that visual storytelling at 2:08 is GENIUS. Marida goes from Determination to Confusion to "OH FUCK" in like a second of facial expressions, and it's performed PERFECTLY by the animation. A thousand props to the animation direction in this case for Showing, and not Telling. A lesser or older-styled team could have cut away for a fifteen second inner monologue, but all of it got sold in that Quick little action.
The internal monologue is a product of manga, you see it in Dragon Ball and Bleach and a ton of sports anime because in order to be faithful to the original work they have to act out the thoughts as well. Not sure if internal monologue was used much in the light novels here, but if there's any you hardly notice it because the rest of the production is so good.
More like "WHAT IS THAT"
And as we learn later, she _KNOWS_ what the result of being on the wrong end of a MS with _THAT_ face looks like, and has a phobia of them as a result
@@matthewbrune5490 Notice how no one is celebrating? At one point, the Gundam may have been a rallying cry in some respects, but by now, it's more of a harbinger. Anytime it's around, that's almost a guarantee that war is either Starting, or is now in your front lawn. And given how the last few wars went.. that almost never ends without millions dead.

This series was my first Path to Gundam and Universal Century timeline I'm glad this series was my first Gundam series that I ever watched cool robots, good stories, Great morals about War, Humanity, Hope and Possibilities.
Absolutely amazing anime I highly recommend watching it to all who see this message

So we ain't gonna mention how the Byarlant Custom just made minced meat out of the Zeon Remnants? Or hell, how the Zeon Remnants just attacked a Feddie base with up to 17 year old mobile suits? That's the equivalent of someone declaring war while still flying MiG-15s
When your realize the Federation is still arming tanks with a nearly 250 year old machinegun, 17 year old MS's seeing active combat aren't really that surprising.
I mean at this point the F-22 is more than 17 years old and the F-35 is a little bit of a downgrade TBH
The actual date of obsolescence for military vehicles you pilot into dogfights sees things 40+ years old being used regularly.
F-16's ? F-18's ? A-10 warthogs (ground attack not dogfighting but you get the point) ?

I highly recommend people attempt to check out the earlier UC Gundam series. At least War in the Pocket and 08th MS Team. I also really enjoyed 0079, Zeta and Stardust Memories but I could see why some might find them too old.
Some of the later ones are better jumping off points than unicorn too. I'm thinking Thunderbolt and the Origin!

@BLASTER Yeah I totally agree with this. I ended up buying some of the Blu Rays over here which were really really expensive. The price makes it even less accessible. (I live in Canada, so the only Blu Rays available to me were the ones from America, but the conversion makes them 80-100 each most the time)

The part where the Unicorn going full space Kung Fu against the Sinanju was freaking amazing. If that cut was on CGI then it wouldn't get the same appeal.

This was actually my favorite Universal Century series that isn't made by Tomino. The characters are so well written, the music is phenomenal and the battles are epic. I also find Banagher as the character that I relate to the most.
As for the Tomino series I love Zeta and CCA. ZZ not so much.
I seen this series 10x times, and not once I said I get sick of it. That's how good this anime is

I’m fortunate enough to own all 7 episodes on DVD in my anime collection. Every aspect of this series is shear perfection: the animation quality, the voice acting of both the English & Japanese casts, the writing & of course the soundtrack. My favorite moment from the series is the cliffhanger ending of episode 6

Allways amazed that a franchise that is mainly focused on selling toys has these great almost opera like movies and "war is horrible" themes.
the creator wanted to tell space opera stories and show the horrors of war, it was bandai the one that saw a way to profit by selling the merchandise, it's a symbiotic relationship in that sense
The first launch if hands down one of the coolest in the whole series. Paired with the music it’s absolutely legendary

Gundam Unicorn has the advantage because they’re theatrical OVAs so they have more time and budget to produce than a typical TV anime like Ex-Arm plus Unicorn episodes aired from 2010 through 2014

i was born in the 2000s and my dad was a gundam fan and this is one of the gundam anime i remember and i cant believe it has been more than 10 years

Sadly, while this series is the gateway show for the UC timeline,
I highly doubt if the modern watchers are interested on older installments with 70s-80s animation style.
If i remembered correctly, zeta has a remastered one(i'm not talking about the new translation)but for the rest? Well, they need to watch it with the old style animation.
Some kids nowadays are ignoring how beautiful 70s-80s anime is, they just decided to go watch trashy anime with a erotic jokes instead of a beautiful artwork or a masterpiece story, how sad.
It's a viewing curb to go backwards for sure since this was my gateway show when the TV cut aired in ~2014.
The 079 series is particularly difficult to watch but I think CCA and Zeta still look pretty nice. 08th MS Team is probably one of my favorites in terms of the older animation.
Macross made it a bit easier particularly because the older Macross series look better than the new ones even if the character designs in the new ones are better. The OG Macross animation and Macross II animation is a bit more rough than the Gundam films which is why it is easier.
@@krengreyhart4086 that really depends. The issue is that anime now works more to sell the original product. While big anime (particularly Gundam) have always existed to sell something, they worked well because their creators had a vision for the work.
The trends have also changed over time, and I'd argue that the industry is less willing to experiment now than in the era of when mecha flourished. Now, they'll find something to make a quick buck, fuck up on it, then throw it away because they had no vision for it. Sex sells too, so it's easier to take an ero-manga or LN and fuck it up then forget about it.
The industry from then is gone and I've moved on from most new stuff because they pretty much mess up every series with depth to them now.
That's why I don't discount ero-anime. It's pretty much certain that any depth to the plot in the original work was removed so they could add more sexual content. Like, even a lot of pretty-much softcore porn series actually have decent stories when you go to their novel versions.
If anything, it's why I find Mushoku Tensei and their production incredible because they created the studio with the sole intent to animate the series from start to finish, and they've done a good job so far.
for me, unicorn was what made me want to watch the originals with the original style
