It's too bad you couldn't go further back. I still remember the launch tower that you had to plan around else your craft would just clip into the tower and explode. Best update was when they changed the launch pad to the flat launch pad without the tower.
It's quite easy to go further back, on KSP forums there are downloads for KSP versions from before it costed money, and they were endersed by the IP owners last I accessed them.
Sadly those versions only go from 0.7.3 to 0.13.3 and steam can only go back to around 0.22.5, and as far as I know there is no (legal) way of obtaining the versions inbetween. It's a shame because I would really like to see 0.17 and the initial release of planets like Moho as they were somewhat different.
That tower was all sorts of frustrating fun. I think most of my launches had the ship fall away from it first before launching. I suppose that's true Kerbal fashion anyway
This is some of my childhood! In 2014 I was in second grade and my dad played KSP a lot. I would build horrible bases and force my dad to somehow build a rocket to launch them. I recently found a save of "megellin base" on a old computer that we hadn't booted up in a while
The building in Paris you're refering to is probably the Montparnasse Tower. It is the only kind of skyscraper whithin Paris, apart from the Eiffel Tower obviously, and it is largely considered ugly. So the saying goes something like "it's the best viewpoint in Paris since you don't see it". Totally fitting to your situation XD
I remember back in 2012 finding a guy that played the original beta of ksp, i think version 0.12 and it was so cool to watch. I couldn't play the game however because i was but a poor highschool student. Boy has this game improved and become one of my favorites.
"EVA Report from KSC: You have a growing suspicion you're not actually learning anything" 🤣 This video makes me glad i only started playing KSP 1 somewhere after 1.0
0:40 omg, it annoys me so much how older ksp versions got removed from download Quite a lot of KSP's history is on the verge of being outright lost media
Ive totally forgotten what it’s like to build in KSP Without the Offset tool! Been playing KSP since December 2013, I remember when the offset tool (and others) it was such a massive Game changer!
I remember working so long and hard to make a real looking shuttle without any offset tools and when they released the modern shuttle cockpit i spent so many hours actually making real looking shuttles and flying them. So many hours man lol
They always used to claim closing the intake reduced drag, but in anything air breathing by the time you were high enough that they weren't working the drag was negligible anyway.
god that takes me back...i waited hours on christmas to have it download from the KSP website directly on that oh so bad internet conection my family had back then
It's actually possible to download old versions of Steam games by unlocking Steam's console, looking up the ID of the game's older version, and running a command that forces Steam to download it into another directory. (I did it once when a game updated to censor out all the swear words, since that pissed me off.) You could probably use that to grab some really ancient version of KSP, if you wanted to. You'd have to look up the exact process, though, it's been too long since I did it myself...
What a trip! I used to play a pirated ksp version on my grandma's computer and that was the newest version I could find, I think I was like 10 at the time. It was so janky but exciting, the ugly shuttle cockpit didn't even have an IVA
23:45 Ah yes, I believe I've heard that one before. You get a great view of Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower, because you can't see the gawd ugly thing ! GG Matt
I have all versions as backup back to 0.18.4 when I started KSP. Additional to taht I vae some further more older ones that were free to download and play. Next time, build your shuttle in the SPH, you can transfer it to the VAB by copying the file to that folder.
I've built a shuttle. Okay, it's closer to Buran. And it works. But I want the janky shuttle parts. Reminds me of the carboard parts mod. And the old ram air intake. It would look grad for some underwing engines. Oh, and btw, the game will run in any resolution. I play in 1760x990
God it's so weird to see "old KSP" but still have science/career mode and the "new" space center. It's wild to think how far the game has come while still being 10 years old. Also wow I have been playing this game too long.
Yeah, I think the oldest KSP I've got archived is 0.19.(something). As far as space planes go, my first and last spaceplane I used much was just before the rapier engine came out. Could put a plane in orbit with just a 20-50 m/s circularization. Haven't come close since. 🙂
I wonder if anyone has the original beta files? If i remember correctly, it was a unity package you could modify directly - i played around with it while i was learning gamedev
Almost dying from landing and saying everything is fine. Then realize you cannot plant a flag and calling it a disaster because of it. Is truly a Matt Lowne moment.
and this version still feels new to me lmao. the nostalgia nonetheless. ALSO WAIT WHAT 10K -> 45 degrees isnt the gravity turn method anymore?? no wonder my launches all suck
23:42 You are referencing Montparnasse Tower that President Giscard d'Estaing disliked a lot because, contrary to his predecessor Pompidou, Giscard didn't like post modern architecture at all. So when the tower was finished, he, off course visited it politely but said that from its terrace, it was the best place in Paris because you couldn't see it from there...
There is a channel called “ultimate Steve” who plays REALLYyyyyyyyyy old versions of ksp in one of his videos from 3 years back. Go down the short list of comments(seriously, there short) and at the bottom I believe there is a comment asking where to get the versions. Click on replies and you’ll see a link to them. Can you please play them Matt?
Could have just gone back to the console edition of the game and used the same parts, I figured you had this ability on the current PC version, you can open a certain page in the module sections and use the classic parts
people say KSP 2 was bad but something they need to remember is when KSP 1 first game out on demo it was also bad I remember playing KSP 1 demo and it was so much more ugly and worse preforming then KSP 2 all they needed to do is wait until things get refined in the game and there you go a you get a great game just from waiting
Download Opera for free using www.opera.com/
five days ago is wild
"I love this as much as I love opera"
"This cockpit is atrocious"
Taking a good look at this video all i can say is : ''You guys are elderly kerbals!''
my favorite Chinese data harvester
No.
It's too bad you couldn't go further back. I still remember the launch tower that you had to plan around else your craft would just clip into the tower and explode. Best update was when they changed the launch pad to the flat launch pad without the tower.

oops I accidentally called the mk1 pod the Gemini pod instead of the Mercury pod
It's okay! Love You MATT! Keep Up The Good Work!!!
"Oh noes!"
Idk what those look like
@@STUKA9113 Gemini pod is the black one from the DLC.
1000 launch stare
shuttle gameplay: fly like a rocket and land like a plane
shuttle lore:
This is some of my childhood!
In 2014 I was in second grade and my dad played KSP a lot. I would build horrible bases and force my dad to somehow build a rocket to launch them. I recently found a save of "megellin base" on a old computer that we hadn't booted up in a while
PLEASE let me see this base
You call this version old!? I remember version .17 with the old launch tower!
Totally fitting to your situation XD
you call this “old?” when i started there was only the ancient busted VAB
Same here, I saw the Space Program buildings and went "that's not old at all! Wait...."
@ yeah like they changed those buildings last year right? like that was only a year ago right???
It feels weird hearing this be called old KSP since most of my playtime was around 2012-2013
I remember back in 2012 finding a guy that played the original beta of ksp, i think version 0.12 and it was so cool to watch. I couldn't play the game however because i was but a poor highschool student. Boy has this game improved and become one of my favorites.
I remember trying to make a shuttle once, ended up making a kamikaze that crashed into the VAB. 😭
"EVA Report from KSC: You have a growing suspicion you're not actually learning anything" 🤣
This video makes me glad i only started playing KSP 1 somewhere after 1.0
These older versions of KSP can be downloaded from steam utilizing its console window as long as you have the manifest ID for the download version.
getting sucked in by the narration, leaned in close and BOOM opera ad... the way i groaned and dropped my head to the desk lol
I remember starting in 0.23, what a time that was...
Cool i was ecspecting the Red barn Age in this video
Matt, I have a copy of the first ever KSP version. If you want I could send it you for a video?
Most lore-accurate Space Shuttle reentry and landing, I'd say...
3:40 you should get the OPT spaceplane mod it has alot of pods that look like this
0:40 omg, it annoys me so much how older ksp versions got removed from download
Quite a lot of KSP's history is on the verge of being outright lost media
Not even on the verge, There will always be old pirate sites with old versions
Funny how the versions they deleted are all the versions before the take two purchase and its toxic license
There is a 2018 forum post on the ksp forums that archives the older ones back to like 0.7
17:26 "For the less mathematically abled among you" is crazyyy! 😂
Matt: look at all these janky parts. Me, last played in 0.19 or so: These new parts are so good.
Ive totally forgotten what it’s like to build in KSP Without the Offset tool! Been playing KSP since December 2013, I remember when the offset tool (and others) it was such a massive Game changer!
Omg these memories
I still remember 2011 when there was no Mun and no map view, and the game would break if you tried to land on the far side of Kerbin
I remember working so long and hard to make a real looking shuttle without any offset tools and when they released the modern shuttle cockpit i spent so many hours actually making real looking shuttles and flying them. So many hours man lol
20:55 jebel-diah kerman
best merch plug ever, I want to make a witty joke about the whole video being a clever ad but I havent finished my coffee yet
can you please make a video where you fly to jool by using the tundra space agency mod it adds falcon 9 and falcon heavy parts
They always used to claim closing the intake reduced drag, but in anything air breathing by the time you were high enough that they weren't working the drag was negligible anyway.

Oh my! This brought back a few memories! Thank you for this brief nostalgia trip!
I'm glad I started playing KSP at the 1.3.1 version ^^
Oh my, I got the game my Junior year of Highschool (2014) and yeah this is pure nostalgia
im actually more surprised how much HASNT changed. i started in late 2018.
What a trip! I used to play a pirated ksp version on my grandma's computer and that was the newest version I could find, I think I was like 10 at the time. It was so janky but exciting, the ugly shuttle cockpit didn't even have an IVA
I started playing KSP in early 2015, nostalgia wave indeed
NGL I really miss the old RT10 and RT5 booster textures. The new ones look so clinical.
I started playing in the 0.25 era, these parts are so goddamn nostalgic.
23:45 Ah yes, I believe I've heard that one before. You get a great view of Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower, because you can't see the gawd ugly thing ! GG Matt
Thx for another great video!

I have been playing KSP since before there was a Mun lol, this is a wonderful bought of Nostalgia.
I've built a shuttle.

Love seeing the thumbnail testing on new Matt Lowne videos

I'm trying to remember which version of the Beta I got in on. Pretty sure it predated the spaceplane hanger.
Someone needs to make a mod to bring back some of the old textures, like the mk1 cockpits and the old jet engines
I wonder if anyone has the original beta files? If i remember correctly, it was a unity package you could modify directly - i played around with it while i was learning gamedev
I'd swear it was not so long ago that this cockpit was changed
As soon as I saw any other mode than sandbox I was out, this is just modern KSP right? Its how i remember it!
Hello Matt! Good to hear from you again…what do you think of the new spacex launch?
Nostalgia November is spreading, lol.
RIP to all the Jebidiahs that were killed in the making of ksp shuttles
"Sir this is a McDonald's"
Thanks for the trip down memory lane 🥲
Almost dying from landing and saying everything is fine. Then realize you cannot plant a flag and calling it a disaster because of it. Is truly a Matt Lowne moment.
pre-10 minute I love this dude. He got me into ksp and now its my fave game fr
Not being able to play the gamea you have on your own hardrive is absolutely criminal
This was disgustingly nostalgic
HI MATT :)
Good vid
I think the old plane parts look kind of good, they're just janky because the textures are stretched in some places
26:25 “OHHHHHHHHHHHH” -Matt Lowne, 2024
and this version still feels new to me lmao. the nostalgia nonetheless.
ALSO WAIT WHAT 10K -> 45 degrees isnt the gravity turn method anymore?? no wonder my launches all suck
Beautiful Shuttle Lands Perfectly First Time 😀
23:42 You are referencing Montparnasse Tower that President Giscard d'Estaing disliked a lot because, contrary to his predecessor Pompidou, Giscard didn't like post modern architecture at all. Matt would you ever play planet coaster 2 since I enjoyed your planco series
22:46 well matt it is technically also to the west of the ksc. Just REALLY far west compared to how far east it is
Live commentary Matt!
How did Matt comment 6 days before the video came out?
0:27 i agree with your statement, Matt, it is disgusting and horrendous. The most hideous thing ive ever saw in my life.
oh the nostalgia...
I swear the old mk3 shuttle pod was insane 😭 💀
9:40 Matt Lowne has really improved his building skills over the years
wtf you started playing 0.23? That was SUPER late! What a NEWB!
Ah, the memories!
these parts had aura
I played a lot of 0.25. I remember those parts.
I still have to fight my instinct to do the gravity turn like you said 😂
Try doing the history of planes and other rockets in ksp 1 😮
I keep forgetting how actually shit old ksp was ._.
I had forgotten, or perhaps blocked from my mind, how atrocious the Mk 3 cockpit was😅
the old mk3 cockpit is the S26 of ksp parts
26:20 Obviously a major malfunction.
we need a multiplayer mod that is actually good
Matt Lowne played ACAH, noted.
I think you had to enable offset and rotate through the cheat menu if I recall correctly...
It's a shame they didn't keep these parts in addition to the current command pods/cockpits.
Im terrified. I need new pants
Could have just gone back to the console edition of the game and used the same parts, I figured you had this ability on the current PC version, you can open a certain page in the module sections and use the classic parts
What mods do you use in normal KSP?
Brave Browser FTW!!!
comes in off center line falles over and gose Kaboom.... Everything is fine here nothing to see
Day 3 of asking matt to do a video reusing orbital spacecrafts ( STARSHIP)
ksp lore
yoppie new vid
Just from the start... What do you mean *_"dark"_* history?... I better go watch the full video!
I love how you can tell when a KSP video came out based on the parts used on the craft.
You can't plant flags on Kerbin
people say KSP 2 was bad but something they need to remember is when KSP 1 first game out on demo it was also bad I remember playing KSP 1 demo and it was so much more ugly and worse preforming then KSP 2 all they needed to do is wait until things get refined in the game and there you go a you get a great game just from waiting
