I'm ready to throw my Sonos system into the garbage. I would if I hadn't sunk a few thousand dollars into it. It's worked over the years but every time there's a change of this sort it's a nightmare. It should not be this difficult!
I agree, everytime i go on a work trip for a few weeks i come home to my sonos speakers not working and i spend hours trying to reconnect them to the network again.
I agree. I got a new router and thought it wouldn't be a terrible process. Apparently, Sonos is the only thing I have that is the pain in the ass. Why????
Total garbage. Been working on my local network for years with no problem. All of a sudden I got a message that sonos have disconnected from the network and I can no longer link to it. I have 2 speakers that work, and 3 that absolutely refuse to connect to the wifi.
As with everyone here, changed my router yet same network name and pass. Since doing that, none of my products are being found and will connect to my system. I’ve tried multiple times to complete their “easy/simple” instructions and it does not work. Paying for these expensive products and having issues constantly with connectivity is atrocious. The process of reconnecting speakers should never be this hard. You’re way behind on these fixes and putting your customers in a terrible position to try and figure it out on their own when your articles and these videos do nothing to remedy the issues.
Did a speaker by speaker reset (unplug for 10 seconds then plug back in and at the same time hold the ‘find network’ or ‘pause/play’ button - subject to speaker age - until the light flashes green) and then re added each one to my new network just by following the prompts on the app. Having not had a working system for over a year, I’m super grateful for the advice at the end of this clip 👍
This is absolute stupidity. I've been trying to connect this speaker to a new network for a year. Giving up eventually and then trying again. I did a factory reset and when I look for the speaker - it just says no speaker found. Would not recommend to anyone.
This happened to me. I ended up holding down the reset set speaker for about 2 minutes after I plugged it back in. Finally it seemed to flash red differently and properly reset and then the system could find it. It's the most painful/annoying system ever created, and if I could go back in time and never buy it, I would.
Furious here - trying to use my connect amp with a new wifi network (only way to upgrade my Virgin TV). Obviously components wouldn’t connect, online advice suggested this is only possible via a factory reset. Did this and have now lost 5+ years of very carefully curated playlists etc. Is this stored anywhere else in a form that can be retrieved? Performance of the system was decreasing with each passing month, and I’m frankly just getting fed up with it. Any helpful suggestions welcome.
I managed to sort this by using an ethernet cable to hard wire a speaker to my router, then I was able to see all my speakers, access the System settings and add the new network. They should add that suggestion to the app., worth a go if you're having issues!
Thank you. the sound from Sonos speakers is excellent, but the app, set up etc. is absolutely terrible. I restored to factory settings as I was not getting the options you were getting on the first section of the video. I would recommend to anybody if you have changed your router (something that my ISP do to me every 2 years) and you do not get the exact screens you show in section 1, don't waste your time - just restore them to Factory settings and start again.
i've done a factory reset about 5 times...used lan cable etc...nothing is working. After changing router and wifi password, I am unable to reconnect my sonos one sl :(
Me to! I’m having same issue as last person. I admit I’m a cool aid drinker…..apple person. I’m use to plug and play. Just works. Not impressed and I have 2 different Sonos speakers. Still trying All I did was get a new network WiFi. Shouldn’t be this hard unless there is a nasty bug( ended up doing a factory reset to both speakers after trying 4 unsuccessful times. Working now)
I went thru all the steps of setting up to another network. It goes all the way to “new network saved” but once I try to play music it says can’t connect to network. It’s like an unending loop 😢
Thank you so much!!! I´ve watched many other videos but only this one had the solution and it was very simple to do it... Factory resetting... that was it!!! Greetings from Chile
Thanks for this, managed to fix my Sonos speaker after probably 1-2 years of trying and failing. I had given up already haha. Am sure I’m not the only one who had their Sonos system collecting dust because of this. Such crappy operating system.
Carefully followed this twice with my wife looking over my shoulder the second time to make sure I didn’t miss anything. No! Did not connect. We just got to our FL rental and trying to set up. Had same problems last year (different address) when we got to FL and again when we got back home. Not a criticism of the video. It should work. Problem is this POS Sonos One SL system.
Yea, afther I put my new WIFI pass the Sonos App told me that it was a problem and I can't connect to the internet. 'Most Sonos products require a 802.11b/g network. If your router is set to N only or AC Only chenge it to B/G/N, sometimes referred to as mixed'. I use a FritzBox in Germany and I can't find the B/G/N setting!
Thank you. I had both routers still, since I was changing providers. Make sure both are on. Then Sonos app prompted me to look at the network. Then change to the network that you’re now currently going to use. Then it took 2-3 minutes to update. I kept the ssid name the same as old router, and changed the password same as old router so all the devices in my house would connect again to the new one again. Worked great. Or else it say you have to do hard reset, and lose all settings and data. Thanks for the info
Thanks! I couldn't get my Sonos Roam to join my new network after moving. Finally tried the factory reset, as explained in the video, and it was fixed right away.
There are too many options with speakers these days to deal with the hassle of the Sonos System. This is such a headache, going on 6 hours now. These instructions did not work for the Play3 system.
Here’s what I did: I first unplugged the Sonos. Then, I navigated to the Sonos app, went to Settings > System > Network > Manage Network, and removed the old network. After that, I plugged the Sonos back in and held the button at the back for about 60-90 seconds. Finally, I managed to connect the Sonos.
S2 app V15.8 won't let me input the WiFi details when my speaker is wired to the router. When I disconnect it the app can no longer find it (tried all the options), and it still won't let me input the WiFi details. WHY IS THIS APP SO FRUSTRATING? I JUST WANT TO TELL THE SPEAKER HOW TO CONNECT! MADNESS!!!
Until min 03:48 it''s all the same for me but then the connection fails. On my Android phone the wifi works as always but the speakers do not seem to recognize it anymore....
@@jakobandersson1359 I think the problem in my case is the router which reset after a power failure. The S2 app showed me, that it needs the B/G/N standard instead of N or AC. But I live in an apartment and the router is only accessible for the landlord. So I can only tell in a few days. But I would be also curios to hear from you if you could change something...
@@jakobandersson1359 I also found a typical problem, that you router is confused with giving the sonos system a (new) IP which you then have to do manually e.g. via website of the router company.. But considering the age of most of these articles this seems to be rather a problem of the past

Hi. I am using the sonos ikea lamp speaker. I downloaded the app, setting up to new system, trying to connect the speaker to a wifi....the app simply says, cant find network and doesnt provide any other options. I have unplugged the system, rebooted, reset etc. in vain. I am at my wits end.
I have an amp and sub connected to Ethernet port on router and I can play the amp from phone but if my phone is connected to extender instead of regular wifi on router, it does not find the amp. Does this mean the extender is unable to find Sonos or what I am trying to do is impossible?
So, I do the setup and it just says it cannot find the speaker. Do I need to factory reset? Unfortunately I did not do Sergio before getting rid of the old network. 😫😖😬
The factory reset steps do not work. It’s flashing green after I held down the reset button. The app still says can not find device. Yes, the app has been updated. Soooo frustrating!
If you are in a retail store with 4 speakers up in the corner on a security bracket you will have these problems. The phone won't hear the noise unless you get up a very high ladder and get the phone right next to the speaker. If the button is on the back you won't be able to touch it as it is hidden by the bracket. Surely there must be a way to migrate the system after adding an AP to the network without dismantling the shop to bring all 4 speakers down.
Now what I did to get my speakers to connect was to reset the app this will not delete your current settings thank god and connect your speakers also I had one speaker hard wired to the router and it is working n😊ow you can disconnect the hard wired speaker and it will still work wireless ly
I installed a new WiFi router and created a new network name and password. Then the Sonos app could not find my One SL speaker. I couldn’t get anywhere with the in-app instructions until I connected the speaker to the router with an Ethernet cable, something I learned from the 2017 Sonos video on this topic. After that it was smooth sailing using the app to find the speaker and add the new network.
Hi, im from the Nethelends and I've been following you guys alot since I'm a sonos fan and I really like your videos keep up the good work. But I have a question for you since I'm wondering this my self for a while now. This video is still not telling anything about using one sonos speaker connected to LAN and let Sonos use its own wifi network ! In the past Sonos Support told me that that setup is beter if ppl are using it for surround sound. By connecting all Sonos speakers ONLY on your wifi it suffers from latencies is that not the case anymore? I was hoping you guys explain a bit more about the technical side of things. * Sonos Wifi (invisable) with 1 speaker to LAN Or * your router WiFi and connect them all to that
I tried removing the music folder from Sonos on my Mac and then tried adding it again. Now it is saying Unable to shared folder and giving error number (1002). Now it seems like it is an error of the software for the Mac. The Sonos speakers are useless.
Been having connectivity issues for over a year. I think I may have solved my issue today finally. Called spectrum and had them “steer” my phone to the 2.4ghz network (I have a spectrum provided router that auto switches between 5 and 2.4ghz). As long as my phone is “steered” to 2.4ghz everything works beautifully. After 1 hour (the max time they can “steer” a device) my phone goes back to 5ghz and the connectivity issues start again. I’m going to either get my own router or ask spectrum for the old kind that has 2 separate frequencies (2.4 and 5) that I can manually connect to. Hope this helps someone. Good luck!
I’m having an absolute nightmare with these speakers, they just won’t connect! I’ve tried everything🤬I’m pulling my hair out. I’ve heard these speakers are great, and that may be true…but unfortunately I’ve never heard them in action😩
Ditto. I too have been spending the last year trying to get my Sonos to work. It's f****** useless. it does not connect. It's a waste of f****** money and I'm really pissed off.
I figured it out!!!! 6/4/2024 with an older Sonos ONE model! Don’t ask me how I did it… but I was in the newest updated black Sonos app. Not the Sonos s1 like people seem to recommend. I followed the instructions of the old info packet you get when you first get your Sonos (can find on Sonos website under whichever speaker you have), went into my app, and it finally discovered it, played its little chime thing and then connected! Only took an hour of swearing and cursing this machine. Good to go now until I move again. Then starting all over with their stupid updates. 🙄
Setting up on a new router was a nightmare. What ended up working for me was a Sonos factory reset AND reset the sonos app on your phone (this option is in the app settings)
I treid this and i cant find the sonos player in the app ive tried swveral methods ro fix this none woek . Sonos have made it so difficult to aet it up rather a bose speaker any day
I installed a new mesh network and changed the ssid and password so I could purge all old devices no longer connected and changed this over seamlessly, it's great that all these things are so simple to do.
@@glenpye1654 Are you saying I'm lying? I'm not talking about other people, only my factual experience. Have you had to do it? Did you have issues? That's unfortunate, but for me, it was seamless .
I have a really good tip for avoiding having to do this. Use a router of your own, not your ISPs router. This way, if you move just bring it with you! Your speakers and other smart home stuff won’t notice the move. The other tip is, when upgrading your WiFi stuff. Keep the same SSID name and password. Again, your gear won’t notice the difference. Unless you shud down a band like 2.4ghz in the new router or mesh network. For some reason SONOS still can’t use the 5ghz band all the way but only in surround setup, which is bonkers 2022 when aiming at residential setups.
I use this technique myself, setting up new equipment with the same SSID, even at different locations (homes/office). It avoids having to use several ID/password combinations at several locations that you control. Arguably it is slightly less secure, but is waaaay more convenient. You will only have to remember one login for when your auto-connect doesn't.... That said, if you use the same SSID at different locations DO NOT use different passwords. My employer has the same SSID but diff passwords and none of my devices can auto-connect when I change locations.
I got new wifi network and couldn’t reconnect with sonos, in the app said that won’t found my speaker, pleaseeeee help , ps : I had try to reset too but it not get success
"If this doesn't work...." Of course it doesn't work; SONOS having among the worst software/connection system in the industry. By gawd, I'd rather a speaker system made up of tin cans and string than ever give the company another cent. Following the app directions I received utterly different 'step' dialogue boxes over the EIGHT times I tried to connect a product to my new router/password. (My guess at the failure is the app is seeking the old password as I attempt to connect to a new router and thus with new password. Now to go try to figure out how to factory reset the products (all of which have different button configurations). Oh, and PS, I love the "turn the device off and then on again" instruction (got that a couple but not all times) and there is NO power button.... The 21st C. epitome of failed customer service (more like customer disregard) has surely gotta be user interface nightmares that require 3rd party videos to complete and those videos include "if this doesn't work" just factory reset and if you've pulled everything out of the box for the first time.
Your video went wrong at 2:52 You assumed I was connected to the network, clearly that’s not why the system IS NOT connected, and just reconnect - the issue is the network has changed.
Make sure your app is logged into the same sonos account as the one your sonos device has been registered into. There is no app warning even if no devices are registered...
There has never been a less intuitive set up/ reconnect/reset procedure for a product that that for a Sonos one speaker. How are they still in business? THIS video tries to cover too much and I have yet to get a flashing green light. I give up and am moving on...again...for the 3rd time in a months of trying. All I did was replace the router...so sad.
I agree..very disappointing to have wasted money on the Sonos device..changing a wireless network is basic..the Sonos is the only one in the house that can't handle it. The app is telling me to find an Ethernet cable now..have not used one for many years.
Its not even close to how it works. Tried for an hour to setup a play 3 and it gets as far as finding the speaker but never works. Worst system I have ever seen. Router was changed. New SSID ... tried with 2 different speakers. Gave up after an hour.
Sonos amazing quality sound but worst product Ive ever used in terms of attemting to connect moved 6 months ago my Sonos 5 hasbeen an expesive paper weight ever since mutiple factory resets itjust doesnt even find device and on the rare occasions it does wont find my network it sets up a temporary one
Changed my password for WiFi and it doesn’t come up with the message at top of screen or anywhere say “update network settings” can’t find speaker at all, what a joke
App does state set up new network on my samsung but after "getting my sonos ready" i get an error and nothing happens. Why is this so fucking hard to do?
So I had to trouble shoot a sonos sytem that was setup in an office.. the speakers were mounted to the ceiling and they were playing music through an small tablet mounted to the wall... how the fuq am I going to press the join button which was high in the air and covered by mounting bracket and then let the tablet hear the sound from speaker because you cannot take the tablet with you since it is a sheap pos that doesn't have a battery...It was an unncessary hard and time consuming job because Sonos has one of the dumbest setup methods ever invented.
This is crazy and outdated, but here's the hoops you need to jump thru to connect to a new WiFi network - Step 1. Connect your mobile phone with Sonos app to the new WiFi network. Step 2. Reset the Sonos speaker or speakers (remove power 10 seconds, then - reconnect while holding down either ‘find network’ or ‘pause/play’ button) until LED flashes green. Step 3. Go to app and follow the prompts (close and open Sonos app if doesn't connect).
Doesn't work. My App said it needed to do an update first. It updated but tried to push the update out to speakers. Speakers dont get the update resulting in being unable to update network information from within the app. Any other ideas?
They seem to just be dropping support for older devices. My speakers are still fine but the app is SO BAD AND STUPID it can't see anything or update devices correctly. They seem to change things just for kicks instead of doing what everyone wants and just make a bulletproof sound system.
Hello. I have something insane happening. We recently switched internet providers, anyone who has not done this in their lives I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do, NOT! So our SONOS 1 will work with everything except playing music. When playing music it doesn't come out the speakers, the music playing but no sound. I have trouble shot this thing for over 12 hours and I can't get it to work. It appears that the Alexa echo and the Sonos are not in sync. However, I have both apps and they all say they are connected. ANY help at all from anyone would be deeply appreciated. FYI: all devices worked famously before... Thank you

This presenter talks so fast I have difficulty following is directions. Tried multiple times connecting to a new network without any level of success. These speakers were a gift from family several years ago-lousy system that didn't work from the beginning. I have now disconnected the speakers and given them to a charity.. I will buy a system that is more user friendly.
🤬🤬🤬🤬It’s ridiculous but I found the cure…reset the APP!!!!!! Start over from scratch!!! Unplug all speakers and install one by one! Been dealing with this expensive trash 🗑️ for 4 days after I changed network names and routers! I created a separate network just for Sonos!

* Sonos Wifi (invisable) with 1 speaker to LAN
Or
* your router WiFi and connect them all to that
I tried removing the music folder from Sonos on my Mac and then tried adding it again. Now it is saying Unable to shared folder and giving error number (1002). Now it seems like it is an error of the software for the Mac. The Sonos speakers are useless.
Can I connect sonos play 1 with sonos gen 2 please🙏 reply
The question is why?
And how to prevent this issue
I’ve had the speaker working g for a week out of the last year
Been having connectivity issues for over a year.
Good luck!
Update: got a new router from spectrum that still auto switches between 2.4 and 5ghz but with the new router my Sonos system has worked flawlessly.
how do we create a "sonos dedicated network" when we use an ethernet cable on the beam S2
Can I connect them to my phone data móvil ?
Isn’t the speaker locked to my account? Wouldn’t I need to remove it from my account before factory resetting?
I will never again purchase a sonos speaker. This is a absolute NIGHTMARE. Thanks for the vid tho
How about solving a continuous flashing white light
Setting up on a new router was a nightmare. What ended up working for me was a Sonos factory reset AND reset the sonos app on your phone (this option is in the app settings)
I treid this and i cant find the sonos player in the app ive tried swveral methods ro fix this none woek . Sonos have made it so difficult to aet it up rather a bose speaker any day
I installed a new mesh network and changed the ssid and password so I could purge all old devices no longer connected and changed this over seamlessly, it's great that all these things are so simple to do.
Yeah right-- if they were, there wouldn’t be so many complaints
@@glenpye1654 Are you saying I'm lying? I'm not talking about other people, only my factual experience. Have you had to do it? Did you have issues? That's unfortunate, but for me, it was seamless .
@@jb7753 steady on!no one is saying your lying, I’m just saying me, and a lot of online people, don’t find it easy
My account seems to be locked. What can cause this?
Credit to this guy for taking on the job of trying to explain these bs speakers. It would be easier to irrigate the Sahara.
You could do this video in 4 minutes..
Still your version of the S2-app is not the same here
I have a really good tip for avoiding having to do this.
Wrong
With shitty service and DDOS attacks it is required to refresh the network from time to time. That said, you started off track, gone from there
Yeahhh. Never buying another one of these. Going up for sale.
Advice on connecting to a new wi-fi network didn't work. Had to factor reset all six Play:1 speakers.
I got new wifi network and couldn’t reconnect with sonos, in the app said that won’t found my speaker, pleaseeeee help , ps : I had try to reset too but it not get success
I see they don't monitor the comments I have the same problem you do and they DGAF
Hi all. Reset app under app preferences scroll all the way to the bottom. Sign back into app. Should help. Good luck.
this worked for me and my sonos one
I'm so sick and tired of Sonos and the system off connection and re connection. So so sad
Your video went wrong at 2:52
You assumed I was connected to the network, clearly that’s not why the system IS NOT connected, and just reconnect - the issue is the network has changed.
Ok and when you do all this and it doesn't work?
I agree..very disappointing to have wasted money on the Sonos device..changing a wireless network is basic..the Sonos is the only one in the house that can't handle it. The app is telling me to find an Ethernet cable now..have not used one for many years.
Thanks dawg 🤟🏻
Its not even close to how it works. Tried for an hour to setup a play 3 and it gets as far as finding the speaker but never works. Worst system I have ever seen. Router was changed. New SSID ... tried with 2 different speakers. Gave up after an hour.
I got as far as entering my network password and it won't accept it, weird
Thanks this was a massive help!!!! 🙂
Clearly you didn’t have an issue LMAO
how about just a Bluetooth system
Sonos amazing quality sound but worst product Ive ever used in terms of attemting to connect moved 6 months ago my Sonos 5 hasbeen an expesive paper weight ever since mutiple factory resets itjust doesnt even find device and on the rare occasions it does wont find my network it sets up a temporary one
Changed my password for WiFi and it doesn’t come up with the message at top of screen or anywhere say “update network settings” can’t find speaker at all, what a joke
big w to homeboy
This is crazy and outdated, but here's the hoops you need to jump thru to connect to a new WiFi network -
Step 1.
Funny how the content creator doesn't have an answer to this. Bobo! [Tagalog]
Thank you
There are also 100 different sonos apps that all try to get you to pay for a useless subscription. Garbage configuration requirements.
Just plug one speaker into an ethernet cord and it will connect then add the new wifi network, done
Tried that and I got a message stating that since an ethernet cable was connected no wireless setup could be done
Why do I have to keep on trying to connect this stupid add room feature that was not a requirement, every other Bluetooth is on immediately.
This is absolute trash, I've tried everything and nothings working. i was considering buying a new one, but not anymore, all i want to do is destroy my current one.
Awesome video! My ancient Connect was only working sometimes (which is sometimes worse than not at all) and this made it work reliably again.
I’m going to take it back it’s to hard

This presenter talks so fast I have difficulty following is directions. Tried multiple times connecting to a new network without any level of success. These speakers were a gift from family several years ago-lousy system that didn't work from the beginning. I have now disconnected the speakers and given them to a charity.. I will buy a system that is more user friendly.
Doesn't work
🤬🤬🤬🤬It’s ridiculous but I found the cure…reset the APP!!!!!!
Start over from scratch!!!
Unplug all speakers and install one by one!
Been dealing with this expensive trash 🗑️ for 4 days after I changed network names and routers! I created a separate network just for Sonos!
NEVER WORKS. i SPEND HOURS TRYING TO CONNECT EVERYTHING AGAIN. I FINALLY NOW JUST FACTORY RESET EVERY SINGLE TIME. IT'S THE MOST FUSTRATING SYSTEM EVER. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING SONOS AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THIS SYSTEM FOR OVER 8 YEARS. ALWAYS A PROBLEM. ALSO, WHAT'S UP WITH THIS GUY'S FROG VOICE? IT SOUNDS LIKE HE IS CROAKING. LOL
Modern apps are valued by how easy they are to use, not the sonos they found a way to complicate theirs you need a college IT degree to make it work, try to follow the above geek.
SONOS system is such a pain. I really want my money back!
Why is your volume so low? Video bad.
