      Did you put your sub under/near your TV facing the sofa or next to your sofa? curious on a Sub set up- since I seen it placed both next to sofa/chair or right next to TV.

    I currently have a Sonos Beam Gen 2 and using two IKEA Symfonisk bookshelf speakers with IKEA stand as rear channel. It perfect for small space and also a budget friendly way to add surrounds to your existing Sonos.

    I use bookshelf Symfonisks as rears. They are loud enough for me. I've never really missed a bass because of my Arc's capability to produce enough of it. Maybe someday I'll think about it. But, yes, rears before sub.

    I use a Sonos Amp with a pair of floor standing speakers as fronts, a wired sub and a pair of Sonos ones as surrounds for a 4.1 setup. It doesn’t seem to be a set up that gets spoken of much but its perfect for me. It has voice control, it’s great for films with the sub for the rumbles and the surrounds but it brilliant for music either stereo for enjoying music or all 4.1 for a loud party mode.

    • @tiegeraymond7223
      @tiegeraymond7223 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I where to get a sonos amp , could I run the arc , amp , 2 ones and a powerd sub of my choosing 🤔 , or would there be delays between the amp and arc , juat don't wanna spend 1000 on a sub

    • @davidleachman7916
      @davidleachman7916 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tiegeraymond7223 I don’t think it would group up perfectly. Your arc and ones would be one room and amp with the wired active sub would be another. You could group them together but it’d be clunky and for the price difference you’d be better to get the Sonos sub, I think imo.
      If you don’t own an arc yet, I’d go amp and your choice of fronts and active sub. If you own the arc then I’d go Sonos sub. Personal opinion obviously.

    Bought the Sonos arc one week ago after having just a 2 channel Samsung soundbar with a sub. I was totally blown away from the sound of the arc. The loudness and clear tone and clear dialog. Anyway, yesterday i bought the Sonos one sl for surround..holy moly how much fun every single movie became to watch. Easy set up and it just sounded amazing. Next up would be a sub. Not sure yet if i should go for the mini or the gen 3, but we will see.(depends on how much bass the neighbors can handle before complaining 🤣)

    One of the best videos I’ve seen regarding surrounds. I have the original Sonos Ones just brought and set up the Sonos stands connected to my Sonos Beam gen 2 and the surrounds sound awful they are intermittent and sound crackly when watching TV.. I have tried factory reset.. and they play music from Spotify brilliantly as surround in both Ambient and Full.. but such an annoying intermittent sound with movies and crackly with TV.. no idea how to sort this out..
    UPDATE reset my Sky Hub and it’s corrected the issue.. wow what a difference surround makes 😊

    I have 2 fives for my phono and beam and surrounds (Sonos sl). I position the phono and fives at the fron of the room and set them significantly lower in volume when watching movies- works well, fills out the sound. Sounds amazing for playing music.

    • @SuperSimonLewis
      @SuperSimonLewis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a Beam, but it’s not beefy enough for my room, so I’m thinking of adding 2x Fives. Good to hear that you are pleased with that setup. I often use the TV to play TH-cam music vids. Have you used your setup for that purpose ? Are you using the Fives in a surround mode, or just as extra beef ?

    • @bpheard
      @bpheard 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperSimonLewis yes, sounds great. Only thing to anticipate if adding two fives to the front of your entertainment area is that if they are set at the same level as the beam and or surrounds you will get an annoying echo (When speech is involved during tv/ movie). Personally, I find a good balance when I have the volume of my fives around three or four and my beam and surrounds at 20. Both set at equal volume for music. I have my beam and surrounds set up as tv room and my fives as a separate room 2.

      This video is wrong and goes against Dolby's recommended ideal setup. At the end of the day, a full Sonos setup is still just going to be 5.x.x. Surrounds should be pointed inwards towards the center of the couch, not forwards towards the TV.

I just set up my new system (Arc, sub, two Era 100s for surround, plus two more Era 100s for music in other rooms) and I was so disappointed that the two Era 100 surround speakers were essentially useless for playing music. Sonos seems quite thoughtfully designed so I hoped there'd be away to change their volume for listening to music or automatically unpair them for music playback. Voila! You answered my question. :)

Optimising via this video (thx for that) might ease the pain and the wife is happy with no longer having all the thick cables running through the living room. That was my experience in cabled system.

    Great video. Loved your style.
    Unfortunately the Sonos Beam and Arc only have one ARC connection, which of course is eARC to enable full Atmos audio signal from the TV to Sonos, as long as your TV is new enough to have eARC.
    If not, and you do not want to buy a new TV, you'd have to buy an Apple TV. But as the Sonos only has one ARC connection you can't feed the Apple TV to the Sonos and the feed the video signal from the Sonos to your old TV. (The reverse path.)
    You have to also buy a Fury splitter to go from the Apple TV to feed the video signal to your TV and the full Atmos audio signal to the Sonos.
    And so if I wanted just one extra feature on the Sonos Arc it would be to have 2 eARC connections to enable pass through.
    If I am incorrect on any of the above, please correct me!

    • @Wreck3d
      @Wreck3d ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know, ARC and eARC output sound on different pins on the HDMI cable & splitters cannot convert HDMI eARC, so using a splitter like that won't work you won't get any sound.
      As for HDMI 2.1/eARC and Atmos, if your TV only has HDMI 2.0/Arc then yeah you wont be able to get 'Full Uncompressed Atmos' BUT... couple things, just wanna say Sonos Arc/Sub etc are very expensive, don't have Bluetooth etc so obviously if you want to latest greatest home theatre audio with Atmos support well firstly you're going to need a TV to match (like putting Expensive Rims on sh#t car), Sonos Arc soundbar+sub is the most expensive offering out there but there are other great surround sound of you're on HDMI 2.0/ARC, using DD+ (Dolby Digital Plus) & support 7.1 with higher quality audio than regular DD (Dolby Digital)
      THEN AGAIN! eARC is backwards compatible with ARC... Yes it will be lossy compression to DD+, WHICH BY THE WAY is designed to sound as close to the source material as possible and youll hardly be able tell difference. SO if you wanted to grab one of the Sonos Atmos enabled bars now which will still work lovely even if you only have HDMi 2.0b/ARC TV and you'll be good for the future when you eventually get a new TV as well 😊

    I have an odd shaped room. Imagine a rectangular shaped open room concept (family room). The TV is above a fireplace at the top right corner. I have kept a Sonos arc below the TV on the fireplace mantle.
    There are two sofas and one recliner. One sofa is against the wall on the bottom edge, while other sofa is on the top edge and open from behind. The best viewing angle is either from the recliner which is placed between the two sofas and facing the TV or from the bottom edge sofa.
    I would like to understand where to place two surround speakers in this instance. I don’t have enough space behind or next to the sofa. I was thinking of mounting the speakers 8 feet above on the bottom edge wall. Thoughts?

      Hi there, the stands we have up against the wall are the Flexson ones. The stands we have behind the sofa are Sonos' own ones. Hope that helps and thank you for your kind words.

    Great video! How do you set up front channel LR with One SL's and an arc sound bar?

      This is not do-able sadly, the Ones/One SLs can only be used as rears in a home cinema setup

    I have a question for you. I have a bit of an older Sonos system. I’ve got the Sonos subwoofer, playbar, and two Play Ones first generation. It works fantastic for my purpose. I have recently acquired two more Play Ones, first generation. Where would you put those? Would you use those as sides, or front left and right?

    I have the Beam 2 and 2 x Era 100s. Ideally I would mount them on the walls 7 foot behind the couch. Do you regcon this is too far?

    I don't understand why Sonos don't let 2 speakers to act as front left and right with soundbar as centre. That will dramatically improve your sound as oppose to soundbar taking duties of left/right stereo and also when you want to listen to music you can have great stereo speakers instead of listening to the soundbar.

      Maybe my setup is bad but I have an arc and two play ones front left and right because I can’t put them in the rear. I did the true tuning and my assumption was since they’re just called surrounds that didn’t require them to be in the baxk

    I do have plenty of room in my room to position my stand mounted surrounds as I choose. I keep hearing different recommendations for best positioning. I currently have my rears angled towards the prime listening position as some have recommended. Your positioning would be with no angle; straight forward pointing to the front. Please comment. Ty

    It would be nice if you could have play 1s or 5s in the front for full surround sound

    So if using trueplay. After setting that up. Does adding bass and treble mess up the true play? Or does that add to the trueplay setup?

    Thank you for the great video. I just got my Beam gen 2 yesterday and eagerly set up my surround. It was nice but the sound coming from the rear speakers (2 Sonos One) is less than what I expected. I almost couldn't tell if the. rear speakers are working unless I listen very closely to the rear speakers. Is that what surround sound should be? I'll change the Surround Music Playback to full as you recommended and see if it makes the different. Anyway, the Beam gen 2 is more powerful than I expected, works great!

    Whenever theres something from the left rear, i hear the same amount of volume from the right rear. This kills the idea of surround. How do i fix this?

    • @mrgold3591
      @mrgold3591 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the audio source being encoded to give you separate rear surrounds, upward Atmos, or side audio. Having an eArc TV or listening to Atmos audio will get you closer than Stereo or Dolby 5.1 audio.

    Do you not want to rear speakers perpendicular to the tv in the apartment setup because the front speakers and rears will clash with each other due to the wall behind the sofa? It looks like if there's space behind the sofa in the first setup, the rears are setup facing the tv aka perpendicular to the tv.

    I have a room where my Sofas form a L shape and they face the corner of my living room where my tv is located.
    My plan was to have 3 sonos 1 speakers to place as surround speakers to fill the space is that possible?
    My thinking is one sonos Either end of the L and in the corner of the hell another speaker speaker

    • @smarthomesounds
      @smarthomesounds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way would be to use the Sub Out on the Sonos Amp but I would strongly advise against doing this as it won't give you the official 0.1 in the 5.1 set up due to the way the Amp will be configured. If you would like to use a Sub with the Sonos system, really the best way of doing it is via the Sonos Sub and you also don't need to run an additional cable. Hope this helps!

    I don't need surround sound speakers. By using my 2 front speakers with crosstalk cancellation, i can achieve a true 3 dimensional soundstage whereby the room and the speakers "disappear."

    I have a question, I have a sonos beam and 2 sonos 5, the sonos 5 are connected also to a turn table, what is the best way to keep the surround effect from the beam and also listen music from the turn table without unable the souround effect??

  • @Wolftec2333

    Great video especially when the reference is to the Fives for rears. The key is ambient sound for TV and depending on seating position , well too loud for music. For me that is overkill and my Fives despite being in the same room are much better for music. Hey if I wanted I could group it all anyways...LOL. I almost agreed with the SL except for the following. I did buy the Ones and not SL version figuring Sonos would eventually catch up to other developers who have speakers in the rear that point up and across. This maybe a very real thing coming soon for Sonos. Now I can take my Ones and use the voice in the other room. This for me was a better decision since the cost difference really is marginal. Other than that I would have just bought the 1's (and not the Ones) from a while ago since they would have been less than half the cost and have the same sound benefits.

    If I buy 4 era 100s and connect them to my arc+sub will I be able to use the entire system as a 5.1 surround? Arc being center channel
    2 era front left and right
    2 era rear left and right
    Or they can only manage being rear speakers?
