In the U.K. we pay for every drink straight away, we only have tabs in some restaurants. The problem with kids for the past 5-10 years is that they don’t know how to accept being told no. I’ve been a pub/club doorman for 20+ years and it’s shocking how these kids fall apart when they are told they can’t enter a venue or have another drink. All this ‘gentle parenting’ is ruining kids. I'm a Boomer and many of my generation pays per drink... at one time there were bars that actually appreciated it because they knew that those who did were not going to skip out on the bill.... It also allows you to leave when you want because you have no bill to settle....
The only super minor issue of paying for each drink is that paying and tipping is simpler by having a tab, except when you have that one cheap friend that drinks $25 in beer and puts down a $20 without paying for tax or tip
I partied in the late 70's through the mid 80's and it was customary to pay for each round when it was brought to you. There's nothing wrong with that...🤔
I am a 64 male baby boomer, and I used to have no problem paying the tab at the end of the night from 1980 to 2010. In 2011, 3 different bars jacked up my tab. So today, I pay for each drink brought to me. No more tabs. Businesses are more dishonest since 2011.
In Britain, that's how it's done in every pub, and always has been. In Japan and some other countries, however, you always pay a single bill before leaving.
As a Gen-X and son of bar owners, I started tending bar in the early '80's at 17. NOBODY carried a tab on a social Friday night out. On rare occasions, a regular who was down on his luck would ask to post date a check, usually a couple days before payday, which we would cash from the register. From that point, he would pay for each drink when served, like everyone else, and usually left after only a couple drinks. Most of them refused to participate when someone bought a round because they knew they couldn't afford to "buy back"... This is just whining...
As a former bartender, padding a tab is bad business. That’s like skimming tips. Sure, you’ll make a few extra bucks a night, but you’ll have zero regulars. Regulars pay the bills. I had about 20-30 who were regulars. They were good for $100 a night in tips. Of course not all of them came every night, but they were consistent. Tack on the usual $100-200 a night from everyone else and you had a pretty decent living. And my bar wasn’t even particularly busy most days. I averaged $100-150 on a weeknight and $400-500 on Friday and saturday.

I'm 70 years old and I learned a long time ago to pay after every drink. The more you drink the drunker you get and leaving that tab open you could possibly forget how many you really have had. Over the years I've seen bartenders put stuff on other people's card for the guy next to him or just charge them for more drinks to make profit. Only if I'm having dinner with someone do I put my drinks on my card. Plus leaving money on the bar kind of indicates how much you might be tipping, And I seem to get better service when they see that money there then guessing what they're going to get on the card.

If you're paying after every round you're using common sense. I used to tend bar, and if you have a tab running, there will sometimes be people trying to put drinks on your tab. Yeah, some people suck like that. So if Gen Z is being smart with their money, I'm all for that!
fr i’m gen z and i didn’t know we didn’t keep tabs open anymore. i know there’s actual reasons for my generation and your generation to yell at each other but this isn’t it. as long as the drinks are payed for, who cares?
For bar owners though, paying after every round is so passive-aggressive in that it puts a transaction charge for every item instead of one fee for the tab.
I can't imagine the mayhem that having a tab presented to customers at the end of the night in the UK would cause. It would be like Helmand province. 🤕
I am an avid weed smoker. Have been since right about the boom of social media (2010ish) and i can tell you ive never been more zoned in than when Im on my phone. I can smoke a joint and work at the same time but i will not get on my phone (social media) while working because ill get sucked in and by the time I come to its been 15-30 mins and I'm late to completing whatever task I was assigned to do. As to the closing the tab after every drink - YES. I cannot tell yall how many horror stories ive heard of people leaving their tab open and getting charged with drinks they didnt order or bar staff stealing card info or writing in their own tip after they run your card, etc etc. Maybe buy two drinks at once so you dont have to venture up to the bar as much but as a passed bartender, id rather you close your tab then get denied at the end of the night or worse, try to skip out on your bill.
If you are a regular and the bar tender trust you, you can run a tab. But be careful because the tab might be more than you expect at the end of the night .
That’s not a Gen Z thing, that’s a British thing. Here in Britain, we all pay after every round. I’ve never been to a pub or bar where you pay at the end you buy you a drink, you sit down your drink it another one, that’s it no tabs!
That is another difference with the midwest USA, we often pay or put the money down after a couple drinks and the bartender keeps track. Honest bartender and people going in the bar makes a difference too, in cities you pay as you order.
😂im canadian gen X we always paid for drinks right away... not many place with tabs... only when they serve food... Avoids theft arguments and non payments... yet u tip every round great for the waiter waitresses and the owlwaiter
Depends on how focused I feel at the beginning. If I feel distracted I will pay as I go, just incase I forget as I am leaving. My usual gameplan though is a common tab with friends/family and if I forget, pay them later.
Is it the social or the media part that is the problem? The media part is a positive for people that don't get out, aren't overly social, or are geographicly separated from their circle. It's also great ways for many people to connect or find others with their same interests. It becomes a problem when it is used to achieve injuring others or as a way to avoid your own family or take care of responsibilities. I don't like that kids especially are exposed to garbage parents wouldn't allow in the home but create a direct link to the child without parental awareness. Social media is a godsend and hellhole rollef up in one. Unfortunately there's no way of separating the good from the bad in all instances. The best thing we could do is ban smart phones and limit every home to one interet computer and it be locked in a space that has no privacy. Shy of that, we'll just have to hope people tire of it and actually use it as a tool instead of an I.V. drip bag providing the nourishment they need.

I usually paid every round. Except for 1 place i used to go to while in the army. The bartender would under charge my tab and i would over tip, she also used to serve me first no matter how busy it was.
facts,, I experienced the same thing at the strip bar....I was the one with the most dollar bills, always..
If you're paying after every round you're using common sense. I used to tend bar, and if you have a tab running, there will sometimes be people trying to put drinks on your tab. Yeah, some people suck like that. So if Gen Z is being smart with their money, I'm all for that!
Gen Z dumped Trump 👊😡
Timpf's Cackle is the worst Thing i've ever heard 🤮🤮🤮
Trump wouldn’t even be in the conversation if it weren’t for boomers
@@andrelotscher280what about Kamala’s cackle…equally annoying?
No. Kamala's Cackle is lovely and funny 😅👍❤
@secondchance6603hey by second chance do you mean to excuse Trump's failed term ya listless vessel??
This is news to me since I never got into the bar scene.
.I never have either. Good for you.
umm im 51 i pay after every round and tip after every round as well. this is a really confusing topic for me
fr i’m gen z and i didn’t know we didn’t keep tabs open anymore. i know there’s actual reasons for my generation and your generation to yell at each other but this isn’t it. as long as the drinks are payed for, who cares?
It's painfully obvious that their writers are striking and these "actors" are just winging it.
Sorry, never did drugs or waste time drinking in a bar! Occasionally going to a bar, there's always WAH-MEN looking for a freebie! 💯🗽🇺🇸
For bar owners though, paying after every round is so passive-aggressive in that it puts a transaction charge for every item instead of one fee for the tab.
Excellent Content
I can't imagine the mayhem that having a tab presented to customers at the end of the night in the UK would cause. It would be like Helmand province. 🤕
No Facebook or any social media for me I’m happily anti social 😂
It's odd without a live audience
If your using your card after every round in a busy bar your a giant pain in the butt
Social media and the internet should have an age limit
You go, Kat.
Social media is important to me. Without it, I can't watch Kat Timpf....
She is ruining leather dresses
Get em Kat! Gen z is useless
How do you NOT pay after each drink?
I'm not American or British, so I'm not in the same world.
😂im canadian gen X we always paid for drinks right away... not many place with tabs... only when they serve food... Avoids theft arguments and non payments... yet u tip every round great for the waiter waitresses and the owlwaiter
I don't consider watching news stories on the internet as social media. Don't you have to socialize with other people for it to be social media?
One of my favorites. Jimmy N. Blinking too much while knocking it outta the park!
Put it on my account,
on account I`m not going pay for it ...
I`ve never heard of running a tab at a bar .
When the drinks come, you pay .
Social media sucks.
I much prefer to pay for each round! "Racking up a Tab" is almost never done.
35.65% of the costs made in hospitals are due to ..... Sugar!
It is not an issue at all.
In Great Britain we pay every round.
On the other hand, there are some people who will not pay anything under 900 bucks...
San Francisco 'shoppers'?
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894😂😂😂😂😂
Time consuming for the bartenders. It holds up the normal flow of serving customers.
All going on in this world and fox chooses bar tabs??????
Depends on how focused I feel at the beginning. If I feel distracted I will pay as I go, just incase I forget as I am leaving. My usual gameplan though is a common tab with friends/family and if I forget, pay them later.
Paying per round is normal practise here in Britain, people rarely run a tab.
I'm so glad I don't go to bars anymore.
I bet it was some bartender pissed off because his/her tips suck from Gen-Z 😂😂
Lets stop with tribalizing age. Who even came up with this FBS? Millennial, Gen Z , Gen Y even. STOP IT.
I love it when Fox News disses an entire generation. Keep winning those hearts and minds for the Republican Party, Fox 👍
im sorry, you must have been expressing a talking point.. I believe the panel agrees that gen z is okay to settle the tab after everydrink,,,
You sound like you lost a Tide Pod challenge.
And you're watching Fox because....
