A young man told me he thought his problem was low self-esteem. He didn’t know what to think when I asked if he _deserved_ self-esteem.
Well, had he achieved something difficult? No.
Had he done something to make the world a better place? Also no.
Was he developing a skill that was useful? No.
Was he helping others in some way? No.
I gently suggested that maybe his self-esteem would improve if he did one-any-of these things. He was not convinced, and very obviously not satisfied with the exchange.

My preferred pronoun is you. When some one speaks to me, I want them to use 2nd person singular. Has anyone noticed these are all 3rd person pronouns? How crazy does one have to be to insist they be addressed in the 3rd person? I don’t want people who are talking to me to refer to me as he. For example, “Hi Paul. How is he doing?” If someone said that to me, I’d turn my head looking for someone else named Paul. If we are going to use special pronouns, my preferred pronouns are: Your Highness, Your Holiness, Your Majesty and Your Excellency. And just as with Colin Kaepernick, I do expect everyone around me kneel to show their submission by kneeling. Though I do expect both knees, not just one. Karpernick does not make a very good servant.
