My husband, 75yo, has heart issues (3 heart attacks 1 quintuple bypass), diabetic type 2->1, PSA 657 … a year ago ER visit ended with catheter (yes… bag strapped to his leg!) recent blood work (has been high for several years - medical professionals just now mentioning) high white blood cell count. We deal with unexpected things daily. I have paid the price by following doctors recommendations…. He has only let doctors stint & bypass without much fuss. The rest he refuses. He calls it human experimentation…. We’re old! We know it. My mil recently (2/8/23) passed. We were expecting it and nightly joke was ‘see you tomorrow…. Hopefully!” She was 5 months away from 98. We are practical. You live… you die. If we don’t joke & make fun of life & doctors wanting this, that and 2 more things, we’d be in trouble! (Which would probably be diagnosed as depression!). We talk about, laugh, joke & hope for the best daily! In 1995 (a few months after our 1st grandson was born) my husband had a quintuple bypass (2nd heart episode). He was given a 15 year life expectancy because of the bypass..our first grandson is now closing in on 28….. you have to laugh, talk about & try your best to deal with life….. and yes joke about it to keep depression at bay! It’s life…you live, you deal, you die (hopefully by natural causes … stay away from dem run cities, you might do better!). We have to bring back parental control & crime & punishments…

Joey lost his legs, and there's no reversing that. How does he handle it? He makes jokes about it all the time, referring to himself as "half the man he used to be", and the like. Yes, when somebody goes through a tragedy, humans don't really know how to handle it, so they get "weird". It helps if the victim pokes fun at themselves. It lets all the air out of the balloon, reducing the stress, so people can act normally again. There are ways to make light of the situation without being cruel, but most people don't have the finesse for that.
For I was hungry you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger you invited me in (refugees migrants and homeless) I needed clothes you clothed me, I was sick you looked after me, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine you did for me 🙏

I have an ileostomy (Crohn's Disease) and the way I got through it was with humour. Like Kat said, when I told my friends they got weird. I don't blame them, they didn't know how to react or what to say so I just joked about it and still do. I know a lot of people will think it must be horrible but, trust me, it is so much better than the alternative. Besides, I can eat chilli now and don't have to worry about the "burning ring of fire"!!🤣
As someone who also has had a colostomy, thankfully reversed after a year as well, I can say, if you want to get through it you Need your sense of humour.
Mine is coming today. The Gutfield group seems to be a nice bunch because they seem to like each other, though the anti-Kat jokes were getting bad there for a while. But they seem like real people, and they are fun to watch. The other channels are too far into hating Trump to be able to sit through.
The more people that learn about ostomies, bags… the better. I’m an advocate for ppl w/Crohn’s and UC. A couple years ago an anti smoking commercial came out, and of course the threat of needing an ostomy was part a part. The commercial was taken down, people need to know there are many reasons someone may need one, and like Kat’s they can be temperary. It’s rarely something the person can control.
To be honest, they were getting kind of old and they weren't very funny. You could tell they were making her angry because she laughs at the jokes told about her now.
