“When encountering a Meat Mimic under no circumstance should any individual try and perform a “true love’s kiss” in order to “redeem” the mimic. Meat mimics cannot feel any sort of human emotion, and as such no attempts should be made to “purify” the creature.”

Theory: Trimmings are failed mimics. If the bulb isn't properly developing into a mimic (like if the creature has too many limbs or a malformed mouth) then the crawler "trims" it from its body to conserve energy for the cultivation of successfully developed mimics.

@@fashionsuckman4652 Yep, the orb is not what you have to fear, but what is making and sending a signal from the orb is, if I am right this is a state-of-the-art elder god invasion the crawl being a self-propagating environment serving to spread a major consciousness across the galaxy, I'll state the creatures and their possible roles here :
Trimmings : Cannonfodder made as an easy access of nutrients for most creatures, possibly having a connection to the Harvester.
The meat snake : A creature made specifically to funnel high amounts of nutrients and other resources directly to the crawl, practically making sure none of it goes to other creatures by forms of poisons and highly virulent tissue.
The mimic : Made exactly for invasion, if major amounts of nutrients or other resources possibly via the Harvester could be stacked up for a while, it could be released in masse to slowly take over and assimilate the leading intelligent species of said planet.
The harvester : A bulb directly connected to the Crawl, used for major nutrients collection and could work as the leading force of the invasion as it slowly pumps resources directly into the Crawl.
The host : Possibly made for intelligence collection as the spores have abnormal uses and I don't believe much is known about the Host, also most other possible methods of intelligence collection is Unknown.
The monoliths : Possibly related to the Hosts the monoliths seemingly function as a way to subjugate any intelligent species on said planet forming into a wide ring on the most reliable area preparing for some time, and then releasing a massive emp blast that would send most technology out of commission, practically turning everything to the dark ages, allowing less communication and the full invasion to start.
The singularity : A connection point between the greater consciousness and the crawl, once an area is greatly infested by the crawl, I believe it will send orders to the Monoliths and the Harvesters to get to work, causing the invasion to start and the following subjugation and assimilation to occur.
But, hey that's just a theory a...film theory?
Also, I haven't looked too much into the Arg side of this, so much of this may be biased or outright wrong, this is just what I think is happening during this series.

Personally, I REALLY dig the speculative biology aspect - it’s refreshing to see monsters being treated as living things with a place in the ecosystem, rather than nebulous supernatural bogeymen they often are in many other analog horror series.
Also, I have to point out that despite narration explicitly telling us that these are NOT aliens, the whole thing really feels like some very elaborate terraforming tool. With its sudden appearance out of nowhere, convenient way of spreading via the crawl and occasional new forms (such as monoliths) popping out from time to time, I’m getting the impression that its end goal is to gradually replace all life on the planet with more of itself, until the Earth is completely transformed into something else.

How do the different creatures react to one another?

I love how the jumpscare with the meat mimic plays totally fair with the viewer's anticipation. Instead of a cheap gag where the camera turns around and suddenly the mimic is right there screaming into the camera, you get a nice long buildup as the cameraman hides in the closet before the creature slides its fingers through the door, forces it open, and sticks its head through the gap to confirm that the prey is there before finally lunging. Makes it seem more like a real predatory animal instead of a clickbait screamer monster.

They also seem very fast and strong, at least compared to humans. So I went frame hunting, and tried to track down all the hidden frames. If you want to see these frames yourself, I recommend turning your speed down to 0.25, turning the quality up to the maximum, and using the , and . keys to navigate frame by frame. This should only be done during dark bits, or when the flash of a hidden frame is visible to the naked eye, because otherwise you would be here for two hours.
4:30 : A newspaper scrap about Crawl growing over a radio tower. While the main text other than the headline is illegible, some of it is discernibly redacted with a pen or marker. This only serves to tell us that someone or something is going back and hiding information about Vita Carnis.
5:22 : The first page in a hidden storybook. The text reads "Once upon a time, there was a distant kingdom. The kingdom was [ILLEGIBLE]. They traveled land and sea to discover new places and learn what" Other than the abrupt cutting off of the text, we can see this is page one, and images of a family adorned in crowns and the trappings of royalty.
6:48 : Another newspaper scrap, about a mass trimming infestation. Yellow marker highlights a question mark after the headline. The article is partially redacted, with the following text legible. "-Estimated 400 plus trimmings gathered under a large, abandoned satellite dish." With satellite dish highlighted in yellow. The text that immediately follows is somewhat still legible, reading "The reasons as to why this is the case."
7:49 : Another page in the story book. The text is as follows. "During the travels on one of their [ILLEGIBLE], a great storm struck. It was so powerful it swayed the boat the royal family rode and pushed the prince out into the sea." The number confirms this is page 2, and the illustration depicts just this event occurring.
8:22 : A newspaper clipping, this one also partially redacted and highlighted in yellow. This one concerns the discovery of the longest meat snake ever. Text as follows. "During a sweep of underground settlements maded (sic) during the war, a massive sized meat snake was discovered stuck inside an underground railway. The beast was measured at a total of 40 meters in length. [SECTION REDACTED]. It is believed the bodies gathered during the war were fed to the creature, causing it to reach the unbelievable size [SECTION REDACTED]. Cult Activity [SECTION REDACTED]". The words "cult activity" are highlighted in yellow.
11:53 : The third page of the story book. The text reads as follows. "After being stranded at sea, the young prince eventually was cast to an island. Injured, the prince stumbled his way into a nearby cave. The prince used what magic he could to put himself into a healing sleep."
18:58 : The fourth page of the story book. The text reads "But the prince's sleep was long. He slept for what seemed like forever. As he slept, the land around him changed and grew. It was unrecognizable from when the prince first arrived. But the sleep still needed time to heal the prince, much more time, but it kept the prince safe while he rested, guarding him from the elements as the land changed."
23:01 : A heavily obfuscated newspaper clipping. The headline reads "Family attacked by [ILLEGIBLE DUE TO VIDEO CORRUPTION]." The main body of the article is mostly redacted, aside from a highlighted section that reads "Authorities refuse to handle The Harvester" and a non highlighted section immediately following "only by putting up warning signs."
24:29 : The next page of the storybook. The text is somewhat obfuscated by video corruption, but a transcript follows. "Outside the cave, during a time of hardship [ILLEGIBLE] critters. The critters were struggling [ILLEGIBLE]. There was barely any food to go around. They would go and gather whatever they could [ILLEGIBLE].
25:49 and 25:50 : Two images together. The first is a heavily obfuscated drawing (?) of what appears to be a black orb with a red triangle inside. The second shows two silhouettes of what are presumably humans, raising their arms in what seems to be veneration. Little can be gleamed from these images, but they should be kept in mind.
28:15 : The sixth page of the story book. The text reads "Although one day, the critters found the cave while searching for food. They found the prince in trance in his healing sleep. The critters were awe struck and enchanted by the prince's healing magic." The image displays a group of critters finding the prince.
    30:52 : A globe pictured against a red background.
30:54 : The seventh page of the story book. Text, although hard to discern, reads as follows. "The critters argued amongst themselves. "Who is this creature?" "Why are they here?" "Are they dangerous?" A thought was brought up. What if this creature could use it's magic to help them. It may grow food or heal sickness. They continued to argue about the prince and his magic. In the end the majority of the creatures agreed that the prince was dangerous and should not be meddled with."
This concludes the hidden frames. I have looked at the section around The Singularity, but cannot find anything hidden.

I'm wondering if the picture book is written by a cult mentioned at the 8:22 hidden frame (Cult Activity). If so it's similar to how an anime by the name of Monster uses a children's storybook as a major plot point. Without going into to many spoilers for Monster but utilizing its idea for this I believe the cult might be using children's storybooks to indoctrinate a newer generation of human's. For what specific purpose is unclear, though the details possibly point towards them knowing more about the truth of what's going on, and as a consequence possibly becoming a bigger target for those who wish to keep the more esoteric details of these creatures under wraps.

You probably already extrapolated this from the storybook but fuck it, I think this is cool to write about.
I like to think that the prince in the children's book represents the the Vita Carnis and the critters represent humanity. Like the prince the Vita Carnis could've been an extraterrestrial being that crash-landed onto earth millions of years ago and sought shelter here just like the prince who shipwrecked and washed up onto an island and sought shelter in a cave. It is then stated that the prince then used magic to hibernate and to heal himself and after millions of years the critters/humans discovered it. Humanity then utilized the Vita Carnis to improve their society like using the crawl to improve crop yield and the worm to dispose of biohazards. The critters in the story book can also be interpreted as having utilized the prince (his magic) during trying times although its not deliberately stated. By the end of the storybook the critters were debating on what the prince was and whether they should utilized the prince's magic to improve their society, they then came to the conclusion that it would be too dangerous to try to utilize it. This last part I believe reflects what humanity is currently doing as it is actively trying to learn about it and utilizing the The Vita Carnis's "magic" to better humanity however the dangers that come with utilizing its magic has already manifested in the form of mimics, harvester, hosts, etc. As for why or who has produced this book, the cult that worships the Vita Carnis could be the culprit as it can be their attempt to limit public knowledge of the Vita Carnis by presenting the investigating and exploiting of their god as dangerous.
(TL;DR): The prince from the storybook is the Vita Carnis which is an ancient alien that humans (critters) have discovered and is exploiting like a natural resource and as a result its spawning more dangerous creatures to try to kill us and the storybook itself is written by cultists who doesn't like having their god be used as infinite source of manure.

Also the way they don't just destroy the ecosystem, they become a part of it almost simbiotically. The prince in the story is Vita Carnis, potentially an invasive species of extraterrestrial origins, dropped down from extraterrestrials, possibly predating the dinosaur ages. So long ago, scientists can't even tell if it's of earth or extraterrestrial. The critters are humans. They discovered Vita Carnis in its slumber state and most decided not to interfere with it. However, a select few (possibly scientists) decided to tinker with it and awoke it, blossoming into the Crawl. It indeed grants lots of magical benefits, such as food and natural abundance. However, it has yet to evolve (prince is still young) and its next stage of evolution can be more sinister and invasive than humans anticipate (prince stated that with the power of himself and his KINGDOM, he'll HEAL this land). Sounds like a "cleansing".

It’s essentially reinforcing the strength of the ecosystem with everything it does.

I definitely liked the implication that the Vitae Carnis proliferated in part due to WW2 wrecking Europe and providing lots of human corpses to fuel their spread. Presumably, the mimic was an unfortunate byproduct - the wealth of human remains offered a niche which mimics emerged to fill, and made their obligate anthropophagy viable for long enough that a significant population could develop relatively unnoticed. Then, the war ended, cutting off this plentiful food source and forcing the mimics to start hunting live prey exclusively. Mimics would have become another element of the postwar rebuilding which Europe suffered through IRL, with reconstruction efforts having to contend with this sudden wave of murderous apex predators hiding among the rubble of the war.
My only qualm is that if the mimics started appearing in the 30s-40s, there would be full on state-funded militias in major population centers to deal with the things by the 50s, especially in Europe. Forget "hide under the bed", it'd be "retreat to your pre-prepared safety area, as outlined in General Municipal Ordnance A-7, clause iii".
...Of course, that would also keep suburbs from infecting everything, so who's to say which is the greater evil?

I just got into this series a little late, and god do I love how its done so much, and I haven't even gotten halfway through the series yet. I love how the visuals are done, and how realistic the tapes are, its not too overly done and actually provides genuinely useful information if you were somebody living in that universe, yet it provides you this dreadful feeling of if it were actually reality and you were located in an environment inhabitated by these unsettling creatures which happen to be on the same planet. I love how its not too fast paced, but not too drawn out before getting scary or just unsettling either, and the effort and thought put into each clip can be so well with how nicely the direction of descriptions and stories flow as well as having a very realistic horrifying factor to them!

I may just need to dig more through the comments but I'm surprised by the lack of discussion over the monoliths, given that they only appeared during a very specific timeframe in a very specific place. I looked a little bit into what happened irl in June 1972 and found something called the Wankie coal mine explosion, which happened in Zimbabwe and left over 400 people dead! Given the mention that the monoliths' legs extend deep underground (where the miners died), plus the already established knowledge that Vita Carnis is attracted to death and corpses, I feel like this is a strong candidate for what made the Monoliths appear.

This series is SO cool. I absolutely love the scientific angle taken here, and how none of these creatures are the results of aliens or demons--just nature evolving to put humans back on the food chain. Again, I really can't overstate how happy all of the scientific diagrams and explanations made me. I love the idea that some of these things have been integrated into human agriculture or waste disposal. The notion of creatures like Harvesters and Meat Snakes contributing to the ecosystem is super cool, and I wish more horror series like this focused on that aspect of their creatures. Excellent work!
My only real critiques involve the Host and Monolith creatures; Hosts feel like unnecessary meshes of Harvesters and Mimics, while Monoliths just...aren't that interesting? At least Hosts felt related enough to the other creatures, but Monoliths feel a little out of place here in the sense that they feel kind of detached from the whole "food chain" aspect of the other creatures. There are so many animals across so many different branches of life that all share species names but have different genuses, its how we tell them apart. I feel like that was an oversight anyways. Another thing is that taxonomical speaking, if they all originate from the crawl, they should share genetic material enough with the crawl to never separate from the Vita Carnis species. The definition of a species is that they are able to reproduce on their own with a member of the same species, which they clearly can't. It's interesting building for sure, but I do wish they delve into taxonomy a bit more to fix up little things like this to make it feel more professional.

What an awesome series, I can't believe I only just found this!!!! I love how well-integrated the vita carnis are into the world, it feels really well developed and like real thought was put into how these creatures would interact with their environment/humanity instead of just being like "what if scary meat monsters?" The build from innocuous, almost cute creatures to the eldritch horror of the GIANT MEAT ORB was great to behold, and the biology lesson actually got my interest and I was invested in learning more beyond just being scared! Plus the instructions on how to escape an encounter with the harvester had me genuinely unnerved. One thing I really want to point out is that if an actual research organization were doing this, they would NOT say "Multiple creatures in the Carnis species". This is incorrect for so, so many reasons. In short, each 'creature' would be referred to as its own species, and the collection would likely be referred to as a Family or Order.

    • @warrior4hire522
      @warrior4hire522 ปีที่แล้ว +162

I don't think that's right. Referring to these creatures with a unique species name each would be taxonomically incorrect. That's because they all stem from the same organism - the crawl (Scandere carnis) - meaning they should all be genetically identical (not considering horizontal gene transfer) and thus be considered a single species. Taxonomically, each creature should be considered a subspecies or variety of S. carnis, which might eventually evolve into distinct spp. (though that's not likely since most of them are sterile). If this wasn't fiction, that is probably how these creatures would be classified by current taxonomic standards.

From what I've gathered about the storybook that are in each of the segments of the video (aside from the Singularity), the Prince seems to be the Vita Carnis themselves. How they suddenly appeared seem to be very much in align with how the prince fell into a deep and magical slumber.
The prince ARE the Vita Carnis species. If we are to take the metaphor for the storybook somewhat literally, it would mean that they came from another 'land', so to speak. Possibly space, or another dimension or something akin to those lines. Either way, they are not from here.
The prince would eventually get stranded in a island, where he took reffuge in a cave. And used his magic to enter a deep and healing slumber. This would fall align with how the Carnis species just out of nowhere emerged. These are creatures that, unlike all the animals on earth that evolved over the course of millions upon millions of years, just.. Appeared. Implying that the Prince (Aka, the Carnis), had finally healed or was awakened.
The critters in this instance, are more than likely either us, or a metaphor for nature itself. They argued amongst eachother if the Prince could actually heal their lands from the hard time. (Which the Carnis do! A lot of their subspecies not only coexist with their ecosystems, but actually make them thrive. Implying that their 'magic' can indeed, heal the land. Not only this, they also hunt down the main culprit for why the earth is so screwed up; humans.)
This would also possibly give a culprit for why the Canis have emerged at a time of war, the webseries gives a lot of subtext and nods to possibly a cult being formed around these creatures. Not only did they emerge at a time of war, which means a lot of unrest and desperate people, but would have plenty of corpses for these creatures to thrive. The monoliths could possibly be a reason for this awakening, as unlike all the subspecies, they seem to bear no purpose beyond standing in a circle around eachother.
The gigantic meat snake is also a big indicator of cult activity, as one of the secret messages just straight up mentions a cult.
Sadly, that only leaves the singularity as an outliner here.
I have, NO idea where it fits in all of this. Aside from it's name, it seems to imply that eventually, all the Carnis will gather up into one place and form a singularity. (Perhaps it's finishing the healing process of their species??), either way this is just a huge leap and we need to see more from this series before jumping into what it even is. But that's just my hat in the ring.
Tl;dr: My theory is that the storybook frames are a metaphor for the Carnis themselves. Who are a species that does not belong to earth. When they arrived, they were wounded and needed time to heal. People found them, and thought they were too dangerous and let them slumber. Until, because of wars, a cult was formed around them that managed to find a way to awaken them.

This perfectly fits into my theory; I believe it is an elder god Invasion :

So here’s my take on the story:
The singularity is a member of a species of otherworldly beings with supernatural powers. One of these creature fell to the planet earth and was discovered by a group of humans in an inactive state. While some decided to not mess with the singularity, others did and helped it recover to full health. Upon awakening a human made contact with it an explained the dire situation of earth. The singularity, heeding their plight, created the first part of the Carnis species (I theorize it was just the crawl, since it’s almost this miracle species that boosts plant growth, feeds other animals, and is 100% edible itself.) The entity then left to bring others of its kind to earth (perhaps the singularity itself disappeared or it shut down, etc) however, just like the other life forms found on earth, the crawl began to evolve into other organisms, some neutral (trimmings, meat snakes, and the monoliths) while others became hostile (mimics, harvesters, and hosts)
Tl;dr, an neutral good eldritch horror creates meat plants for humans, but the meat plants evolved outside of the singularity’s influence.

Seriously, I like this analog horror.
Most of the time, when the monster comes to Earth from hell or some other spiritual plane, all we get are tips on how to fight it (and most of the time, they don't even work). We don't know anything about the creature: what it eats, where it lives, how it survives. This documentary, however, turns the tables.
Sure, the Vita Carnis family also appears out of nowhere, but we know for sure that it's from Earth and that it works according to the laws of nature. That makes the audience really invested in them. I like how they even made roles for the species that are harmless to humans, just like we do with animals.
And finally, every species in the Vita Carnis family represents every kind of analog horror antagonist. Plants that eat people? Mimics that trick and eat people? Giant god-like creatures that probably eat people, too? It's all there.

I think the creepiest thing about the mimics and harvesters is that knowing more about them makes them _more_ terrifying, rather than less, unlike explanations would typically do for found media monsters. The narrator seems to be attempting to really appreciate the existence of these creatures and their place in nature, so when it's suddenly said that "a mature mimic's diet is composed entirely of human flesh" or that the harvester's hunting method is 100% fatal, the blunt sincerity feels that much more alarming after one's guard has been mostly put down. Usually, the best method of creating monsters is to leave the worst parts up to the audience's imagination, but this is a warning- _we know about these creatures, but knowing about them is not going to be enough to save you._ The monoliths and singularity take the opposite route, but somehow they seem less scary to me…?
also, the initial details of "normally trimmings would go extinct but the crawl keeps producing them and the crawl is EVERYWHERE" is extremely clever because it pretty much guarantees that there are no ways to exterminate the more threatening things despite humans having hunted so many animals to extinction

I think the monolith seem less scary because there is the idea that people have tried to contain it and that they don't really interact with people if you don't poke it.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if they're the reason to crawl has spread all over the globe and continues to grow.

I think it’s supposed to be comedic; the entire video is a horror film with an extremely good sense of humor. The narrator explaining that the toothy grin is not an indication of happiness is also a joke! 😅

Here are the Latin names of the creatures (roughly) translated:
Vita Carnis: life of the flesh
    Crawl: climbing of the flesh
    Trimmings: cowardly of the flesh
Meat snake: borrower of the flesh
    Mimic: slaughter of the flesh
    Harvester: gathered of the flesh
    Host: dominion of the flesh
    Monolith: heaven of the flesh
    Singularity: truth of the flesh

The only criticism I have that has not been regarded is that scientifically, species name is structured as [Genus] [species] (species is always lowercase.) for example, Felis catus.
So in this case [Carnis] [spec.]
otherwise I’m looking forward to seeing more of your creations. Instant sub.

And considering that they’re all derived from the same organism, they should also have the same binomial name. (I would also probably change the name itself, as just the word “meat” isn’t the most scientific name. Maybe something like “Sarcozoa” (Flesh Animal) or “Carnozoa” (Meat Animal) would have worked better?)

It could be that vita-carnis is the genus name, like for example Vita-carnis crawl.

I also have a criticism is that Mimics only prey on humans. Wouldn't they also prey on dogs and cats since they live together with humans like it would be interesting to see how mimics could prey on other animals other than just humans. I would also want to see more species of the carnis family tree and more about the monoliths.

I was very into this video and ended up getting completely focused on it, and around 14:28 when explaining the mimics use of noises, the panic attack I nearly had when that knock went through my headphones and I thought someone had just knocked on my window- even scarier was the fact I had my brothers with me I thought someone was finna mess with us 😨

    • @BobbyFluffy

Dead-ass serious, the way I sit at my desk in my room, my bedroom window is on my right, and the knocking noise specifically plays on the right side of the headphones. Was watching this late at night. So when I heard the knocking, I practically shat myself.
