i think on 7:53 in the video the say "Да поможет вам Перун" which means "May Perun help you". Perun (reads like pe-roon) is a slavic god of thunder and war, if i remember correctly, and was considered as a highest god for a long time, like Zeus. Also, on 12:40, another slavic god mentioned - Veles is a god of crops, harvest and overall wealth. So it seems authors r just taking some inspo for lore building from a slavic mythos.
@@Muldered well the author in his VK group post said he will revamp and take a fresh look at a series (hense the new video after a 2 year hiatus) so we just have to wait and see i guess 🎃
There's something specific I really like about horror series like this or Vita Carnis or Monument Mythos where we get these glimpses into a world that's sort of acclimated to the horror in it. It has a realistic and almost comedic edge but it also feels like what would happen: the unknown becomes somewhat known and it rapidly becomes 'an everyday problem'.

@@Yota_tota I think also because English speakers like to see analog horror made in other countries. Most of the horror I see is made in America or occasionally the UK. It's nice to see something different, especially when it uses local lore.
@@wolvie1618 I absolutely agree. Videos from other countries have not only a regional culture, but are also interesting through language/linguistically. I thought this was super interesting, even though I know nothing about Russian
I'm learning Russian and this is nicely adding to my vocabulary, and it's bringing me closer to the Russian side of the internet. Thanks mate, greetings from Serbia 👋🏼🇷🇸
so, just to be clear, the Hider? i assume it first grabs a child, then snaps the childs neck, then keeps twisting until the head comes off, then starts slowly chewing on the neck stump. i fucking hate it, its so well-made! also the Beanpoles are just the vertical equivalent of the Friend-Shaped descriptor.
also im using these videos as justification to learn Russian. im assuming its the most widely applicable Slavic language. if im wrong, PLEASE correct me.
Неспех can be basically transalated like "no hurry", I think it's from "не спешить". Thank you for making all these awesome videos, exploring russian arg and games! 🤗
22:03 for some reason I find this part of the video so cute like “ There’s a scary Gaunt warming his hands on a residents chimney “ the Gaunts are so adorable lol☺️
As a filipino the "turn your clothes part" is actually part of the way to counter a mythological creature here called the "tikbalang" which is a reverse centaur what traps people in the woods. It's kinda cool to see a analog horror monster to be inspired by it
This is also a traditional thing with Celtic or possibly wider Western European fairies, to turn at least your coat or cloak inside-out, possibly all your clothes.
8:00 Iirc it's Perun, who's basically a slavic variant of Zeus. Magnitoshakhtinsk seems to be taking place in a timeline where slavics never rejected or came back to paganism that was prelevant on the territories of Kyivan Rus before 988 (on 988 most of the citizens got baptised by the king Vladimir the Great) (sorry for the historic rant, just got a bit too nerdy) 12:37 Veles is another god from slavic mythology, in fact, Perun's nemesis, who is regarded as the god of stock/animals 18:52 The voice says "mgla" which is basically fog. From what it looks like, I assume it's some sort of an "opposition" to the MS' government, judging by the mysterious name and the symbol (I haven't searched it up yet). Perhaps, the Velles believers from the Hiders vid?
I appreciate you sharing this. Due to the language barrier, so many, myself included, would have never gotten to enjoy these artistic endeavors from the Russian side of the internet.
I love the incorporation of memes at certain time stamps; it almost acts like an anchor to which we as the audience can connect and think alongside you, establishing kind of a 'warm point' or relationship in which we could reflect alongside you.
Finally! My slavic mythology class is comming in clutch! Perun and Veles are per-christian gods in slavic folklore. Perun is in the same vein as Zeus or Odin, with him being the god of storms, wisdom, wind, lightening, and all that. Veles is a bit like hades. In earlier interpretations, he's the god of the earth, water, the underworld and of livestock. Later on when Christianity came in, Veles become a serpent or dragon that was evil and opposed Perun.
8:39 is not related to "успех". its about the word "спех", which means hurry with a не which means no. the rough translation is "unhurry"(?) also sorry for my bad english
Wow, nice video! I'd recommend you to check out "Странные убийства сотрудников МВД", that one is one of a kind, the scariest and most disturbing analog horror, in my opinion.
I'm Polish, so my knowledge of Russian is limited and blurred, but based on the symptoms and etymology, I'd assume "Неспех" ("не-" meaning no, used as a negation prefix and "спех" likely referring to something like hurry or diligence) would be something like "Laziness" or "undrive".
18:06 ever since a kid, i was told that if i ever get lost to the woods, i should put my clothes backwards because there some ghost is following you and playing with you. Obviously as i get older, that logic just became more and more stupider but im surprised i heard this here cause' i never heard anyone else talk about it.
It's also common in the British Isles, if you're lost in the woods you're supposed to turn your clothes inside out because the Fae/Faeries/Fair Folk are trying to trap you in their world
Are you in the philipines mayhaps? We have a mythical creature here that does exactly that. The make the woods wrap around itself so you cant escape, when you put your clothes backward it makes the creature laugh and have the chance of you escaping
imagine what the magnitodhahtinsk M4C was doing during the collapse of the soviet union (as in the short story it was stated that he worked in it since 1990). Due to the lack of central control the anomalies wouldve probably had a field day
i think this series is especially intriguing if you know some slavic folklore. I'm not russian myself, but i am a (south) slav and i love how i can recognize some elements we have in our own folklore. for example, as other comments have already said, Perun and Veles are slavic pagan gods. I just got to the section if the video talking about the night of the Karachun, and we have pretty much the same concept here in serbia. there is a traditional belief that a certain period in winter is especially dangerous, because then the malevolent demonic beings (which we also sometimes call nečisti, aka unclean) attack more frequently and viciously during this period. details like these make me really happy tbh, i love it when modern stories try to incorporate folk beliefs
oh also, the symbol shown during the "possession test" is a mirrored version of the kolovrat, one of the most famous symbols is Slavic folklore. usually all of the "hooks" face the same direction, but here it seems to be mirrored down the middle, I'm not sure why though. to be completely honest, I forgot what exactly the symbol represents, probably something to do with the circle of life, so this could represent some sort of break in the concept? idk also! people sometimes mistake the kolovrat for the german black sun, a prominent nazi symbol. they are not connected! that being said it would be a lie to say that nobody with weird beliefs uses it, but that's kind of like how some white supremacists love to use nordic symbols 🙄 I personally never came across a freak like that, so I don't think they're as common as the ones appropriating nordic mythology, but I do know they exist
I'm so glad you're covering a Russian analog horror and also translating it. I was interested in exploring more Russian art/creations and I'm also learning Russian as a 3rd language for fun.
I love this!! 😊 It's wonderful to see someone go over a language barrier to share interesting media that isn't made in the most commonly spoken and understood language (English). Not that anyone can't share cool media that they found in a language they don't understand (like what countless of weebs have done), it's just always nice to see someone who is able to fully understand and translate things from the source instead of just echoing second-hand information and/or throwing assumptions. Also love the goofy bits in the commentary 😎, I got a bit tired of people taking their narration too seriously when covering horror media.
As a translation studies graduate the way you decided to settle on "tangler" while translating "opletai" made me smile lol. Coming up with new words/terminology is one of the most challenging parts of translation, and so is deciding if a word fits the context and overall vibe of the material you're working with.
It’s always great when people can introduce stuff like this outside its native language There’s so many countries with there own hidden gem story’s that people don’t know about
Dive deep into Asian folklore and maybe you'll get very disturbed Like take for example Penanggalan, it's literally a flying "severed" head with guts and organs attached to it
15:40 Actually, it's not about "cute" thing, it's about "wild" thing. Like, лапы = wild animal's legs. In case you call it like "hands" it would be too human. But this is not the case
Thank you for covering this series! I cant speak russian, so im super happy to have a native(?) speaker translate a cool series id never see. I feel like ive exhausted most of the english speaking horror series, so having someone translate a series is so cool! I love people who translate stuff so other people can enjoy it.
Great video, particularly liked how you talked through your translation of the monster names and why you picked the words you did. Gives a lot more context than just using the russian word or the most direct english translation.
This is really fun! Thank you for your coverage and allowing us English speakers an easy way to enjoy this content we never would have seen otherwise. The first Akratid video having a main description and then a supplemental interview is a great lore-building device, and it reminded me a lot of SCP Articles, which I also love.
18:07 I do remember a famous myth here in the Philipines called tikbalang, where if you are in his domain, you will get lost, the only way to go out is flipping your clothes
So glad I found your channel! It's awesome to see non-English horror made accessible to those who wouldn't be able to experience it otherwise 🙏 Also +1 for Bebop reference in your signoff ❤ Thank you for this video, it was fun/ny to watch, and I look forward to seeing more from you!
That must have been painful as shit. Like imagine your in the dark and then randomly you feel your back stretching before you just snap and you might be alive for a few seconds before just dying
12:40 I recognized that name from the STALKER game series, according to the wiki: "Veles" is the Slavonic god of the earth, fertility, and the Underworld
20:53 First top image: dry yourself off after showering Second top image: look at yourself in the mirror and do your hair/makeup Third top image: try different clothes on before you start the day Fourth top image: take out the trash First middle image: pick up any toys or belongings that are misplaced Second middle image: put on your socks and shoes Third middle image: care for house plants First bottom image: it’s another way to get dressed but in a public-ish setting Second bottom image: make sure your furniture is neat and in order Third bottom image: put on your coat before going outside
Anytime I make a friend from a foreign country (from america) I always want to hear what their horror scene is like. Sometimes people forget how different countries have different cultures that help morph the way they make horror. It's always so interesting to dig into if the language barrier wasn't there.
Hello from America! Thanks for the stories, as someone whose first and only language is English, its nice to experience stuff that I would otherwise have no idea existed or have been able to translate due to language barrier!
At 7:55 the name mentioned is most likely Perun. Who’s basically the slavic pagan version of Zeus or Thor. There’s a lot of old Slavic/Siberian pagan references in this series, pretty neat because it’s such an obscure religion
i really like this one! i like how it shows how the community is fairly well used to these creatures and typically knows how to live their lives around them. it makes it feel more fleshed out than the stories where nobody knows about them except for a select group of professional monster hunters or whatever
8:05 Bro, I'm Russian, but I'm watching you with a little knowledge of English. And you're really interesting to tell! I can help you with the pronunciation on this timecode, because it's a pretty rare word. Perun - (Perun) This is an ancient Slavic god, who was worshipped by the ancient peoples of Siberia and Russia. It was believed that if he was angered, he would bring bad luck
This is my 2nd Analog Horror i've ever watched, my first one obviously being Mandela Catalouge. This was actually entertaining, even if i was watching it from 1:30 AM to 2 AM. I was always a fan of watching horror Video stories on October, and yours is no Exception, Thanks for Translating this Absolute masterpiece, and i look forward for more videos like these in your channel.
I love this channel, such a treat to have someone cross the language barrier for the audience and translate these interesting analog horror series for us! Oh also Veles is an old slavic pagan god, something akin to Odin lets say, here in croatia we have some places named after these old deities
Words at the end of of Anti-Acratid Unit video sounds to me like: "Да поможет вам Перун." Which translates to "May the Perun help you." Perun is a thunder god in slavic mythology. Hope this helps! Edited. Veles is one of the central deities in slavic mythology, considered the patron saint of animals. Sorry if my English skills is beyond bad. 18:44 I guess it says "мгла" which is haze, mist or even fog.
Dude you are absolutely savage in your critique of the copycats. It's good to hear some brutal honesty instead of wall-to-wall fawning sycophancy. Keep it up 😂
Series is very much rooted in Slavic mythology. We have slavic monsters, which is very good that they come out from realm of forgotten myths; we have slavic Gods, Perun God of Thunder, warriors, bees and man; other one is Veles God of death, magic, knowledge, wealth and ruler of Underworld called Navia. Also I think Nespech is from Not-hurry. And it was slavic monster of depression.
7:45 Yes, the word "Kefal" is used as head or mind with "Kephalos" but the word "Kefal" is the Turkish translation of Grey Mullets. Happy that you pointed it out!
16:30 word "unclean (нечистый - nechistiy)" is now pretty old one and was used to be describing some unnatural devil-ish creatures, like the same ones from the folklore, and even the devils from the bible. To harm the person's feelings we could use that word to a human too. This word, actually, fits every creature shown in that analog horror.
11:50 Sounds like an average phsychiatric evaluation type of deal 😂 And considering psychiatric hospitals were mostly implemented in prison-like fashion, no.wonder she doesn't want to go back but the authority for that decision is on the society...

Also, on 12:40, another slavic god mentioned - Veles is a god of crops, harvest and overall wealth. So it seems authors r just taking some inspo for lore building from a slavic mythos.
damn thanks! that definitely adds to the authorities being weird and hiding something, wish they would've gone somewhere more complex with it
@@Muldered well the author in his VK group post said he will revamp and take a fresh look at a series (hense the new video after a 2 year hiatus) so we just have to wait and see i guess 🎃

There's something specific I really like about horror series like this or Vita Carnis or Monument Mythos where we get these glimpses into a world that's sort of acclimated to the horror in it. It has a realistic and almost comedic edge but it also feels like what would happen: the unknown becomes somewhat known and it rapidly becomes 'an everyday problem'.
the bonk noise at 15:58 made me fucking CACKLE oh my god

это популярно потому что каждый русский очень рад когда видит англоязычный видос на тему россии
I thought this was super interesting, even though I know nothing about Russian

i was thinking of the word спешка which means haste
yup minecraft
why does it look like "Hecnex" lol

As a filipino the "turn your clothes part" is actually part of the way to counter a mythological creature here called the "tikbalang" which is a reverse centaur what traps people in the woods. It's kinda cool to see a analog horror monster to be inspired by it
Wouldnt a reverse centaur just be a naked man with hooved feet and a horse head? That sounds horrible and hilarious
@@Cane4092yeah its like a knight piece of chess
That part was a bit funny, as I recall the meme about wearing a T-shirt inside out technically makes the entire universe wear that T-shirt except you
@Cane4092 yeah that's literally what the tikbalang is
This is also a traditional thing with Celtic or possibly wider Western European fairies, to turn at least your coat or cloak inside-out, possibly all your clothes.
8:00 Iirc it's Perun, who's basically a slavic variant of Zeus. Magnitoshakhtinsk seems to be taking place in a timeline where slavics never rejected or came back to paganism that was prelevant on the territories of Kyivan Rus before 988 (on 988 most of the citizens got baptised by the king Vladimir the Great) (sorry for the historic rant, just got a bit too nerdy)
12:37 Veles is another god from slavic mythology, in fact, Perun's nemesis, who is regarded as the god of stock/animals
18:52 The voice says "mgla" which is basically fog. From what it looks like, I assume it's some sort of an "opposition" to the MS' government, judging by the mysterious name and the symbol (I haven't searched it up yet). Perhaps, the Velles believers from the Hiders vid?
i replied to other comments on the corrections, but the mgla is very interesting... didn't realise it at all thank you
@@Mulderednotice - mgla is not fog, it is deep darkness
The symbol is supposed to be the symbol of Chernobog(Чернобог), god of darkness, misfortune and evil.

Another Russian analog horror, let's go! stuff from other countries is always cool to see 👍
The Gaunt “booping” the guy had me rolling. Love your videos. Love your sense of humor. 😂
I love how when anyone making a video with word "Russian" in the title, Russians appear like it's some kind of magic spell
Great video, by the way!
It’s because whenever someone tries to say something in Russian. It’s usually pronounced wrong. Not this guy though
8:39 I'm starting to think I might be infected lmao. Another brilliant video, keep it up dude.
me to lol
I appreciate you sharing this. Due to the language barrier, so many, myself included, would have never gotten to enjoy these artistic endeavors from the Russian side of the internet.
I'm always happy to see analog horror from different countries and I like your sense of humor, consider me subscribed
13:30 jesus christ this actually scared me the sound of bones breaking just...jesus
A god of earth you say? In Macedonian veles means something like into the woods. Very cool
I must say, using "Tangler" IS SO FN COOL. Оплетай звучит сказочно, хоть и страшно, а Tangler прям в классический аналог хоррор влезает олично❤
8:39 is not related to "успех". its about the word "спех", which means hurry with a не which means no. the rough translation is "unhurry"(?)
also sorry for my bad english
Wow, nice video! I'd recommend you to check out "Странные убийства сотрудников МВД", that one is one of a kind, the scariest and most disturbing analog horror, in my opinion.
Are there any other channels or captions on these sorts of videos for non-russian speakers to check out?
I'm Polish, so my knowledge of Russian is limited and blurred, but based on the symptoms and etymology, I'd assume "Неспех" ("не-" meaning no, used as a negation prefix and "спех" likely referring to something like hurry or diligence) would be something like "Laziness" or "undrive".
As a Russian, that's what I also thought. It also matches with the symptoms.
@a-red_digit6644 Yeah, i dont have much knowledge bout mythical creatures so i didnt mention it.
18:44 мгла - The mist
imagine what the magnitodhahtinsk M4C was doing during the collapse of the soviet union (as in the short story it was stated that he worked in it since 1990).
I just got to the section if the video talking about the night of the Karachun, and we have pretty much the same concept here in serbia. there is a traditional belief that a certain period in winter is especially dangerous, because then the malevolent demonic beings (which we also sometimes call nečisti, aka unclean) attack more frequently and viciously during this period.
details like these make me really happy tbh, i love it when modern stories try to incorporate folk beliefs
oh also, the symbol shown during the "possession test" is a mirrored version of the kolovrat, one of the most famous symbols is Slavic folklore. usually all of the "hooks" face the same direction, but here it seems to be mirrored down the middle, I'm not sure why though. to be completely honest, I forgot what exactly the symbol represents, probably something to do with the circle of life, so this could represent some sort of break in the concept? idk
also! people sometimes mistake the kolovrat for the german black sun, a prominent nazi symbol. they are not connected! that being said it would be a lie to say that nobody with weird beliefs uses it, but that's kind of like how some white supremacists love to use nordic symbols 🙄 I personally never came across a freak like that, so I don't think they're as common as the ones appropriating nordic mythology, but I do know they exist
"Well it's either that or a fish. You decide." I mean it would explain why bodies of water were specifically singled out XD
Berun (Perun) and Veles are both old slavic gods, with Perun being the god of war and Veles being a symbol for witchcraft
TH-cam algorithm won't take this off my feed, truly in the spooky month rn
I'm so glad you're covering a Russian analog horror and also translating it.
I was interested in exploring more Russian art/creations and I'm also learning Russian as a 3rd language for fun.
I love how the method of stopping the Tanglers is just... "YOU LITTLE- COME HERE BOY!"
Homer Simpson ass defense method 😂
It’s always great when people can introduce stuff like this outside its native language
There’s so many countries with there own hidden gem story’s that people don’t know about
Dive deep into Asian folklore and maybe you'll get very disturbed
Like take for example Penanggalan, it's literally a flying "severed" head with guts and organs attached to it
15:40 Actually, it's not about "cute" thing, it's about "wild" thing. Like, лапы = wild animal's legs. In case you call it like "hands" it would be too human.
But this is not the case
0:20 Wrong, russia would not say anything to the public
Why?
@@Kostik201Cause Russia sucks

Your channel is criminally underrated. Love your videos!
"Неспех" seems more like a play on a "Не к спеху" phrase, which translate to something like "Take your time". Basically a procrastination disease

Veles is one of the central deities in slavic mythology, considered the patron saint of animals.
